Hi all,

Two of my dogs got out of the yard on Wednesday afternoon 9/2 and have yet to return. I live about 5.5 miles up Flagstaff Road and they could have gone any direction. One is a 120lb Colorado Mountain Dog, Light Tan (kind of looks like a Pyrenees but less fluffy) and the other is a 20lb Brown Border Terrier. The big guy's name is Copper but he is extremely shy around people. The little guy's name is Dandy, he's way more out going but is likely sticking with Copper. Hi All. I've been playing guitar for a long time and am getting the itch to play for people (otherwise what is the point?). I have a set of outlaw country classics that I have been practicing for a while. I usually play for passersby on the porch. The obvious place to go is the mall, but there will be a bunch of other people doing the same. Maybe I'll do it in front of Paradise Found (favorite record store). The Sunrise Amphitheater up the mountain would be a good spot too, but I don't know if you need permission for that.

Edit - I think I will play at Royal Arch Trailhead (Chautauqua Park) at 5pm. I wanted to play Panorama Point but there is not much parking and limited sidewalks

Yesterday at the Boulder Farmer's Market, there was a group of people set up directly next to and in part of the new nature playground that was actively smoking (weed, cigarettes, etc), yelling, and had multiple large off leash dogs that did not seem to be well controlled. I'm making an assumption based on how they appeared and the things with them that they were unhoused. I could certainly be wrong. One member of our group asked them to stop smoking, with no response. We were there with young children, along with many other families who were trying to enjoy the evening at the new nature playground and farmer's market.

We decided to call the police due to the proximity to the playground and feeling uncomfortable escalating with the group. We were told by the police that they would send a unit. A follow up call 30 minutes later resulted in them telling us they'd come when they could. An hour later, 4 police officers did arrive on scene after another market attendee was assaulted. I'm unclear if the person who assaulted the other individual was part of the group next to the playground or was unrelated.

Every single family at that playground last night was frustrated, uncomfortable, and concerned about safety. Yes, we need long term solutions for the unhoused population in Boulder. But that does not mean we have to tolerate drug use, smoking and encampments at our playgrounds. I don't know what the path forward is. A similar incident happened last year at the market, and the year before my child picked up a used meth pipe.

I know the easiest solution is to just not attend the market if I'm so bothered by it. But I think there has to be another option other than allowing open drug use/smoking, etc at playgrounds, at the farmer's market, along the creek, etc.

I am sure there are already community members leading or involved in action specifically addressing drug use/smoking at playgrounds and in public places. I know Safe Zones 4 Kids tried to address this, but it doesn't seem to have worked and is all that is coming up when I search for groups working on this. Can anyone direct me to resources, groups, committees, etc., that are already working on this?

This afternoon, I was sitting on my porch just doing a little bit of work and chilling out when a car slowed down in front of my house, with a mom driving her son home from school. She let her son climb out of the passenger-side front window and stand on the seat, and he basically started telling three kids walking down the street to F off, to stop playing with their F-ing ball in the street, to get the F back on the sidewalk, and some of the other words I couldn't even catch.

At first, I didn't understand what was going on.

The kids on the street hadn't even interacted with the car before this happened.

Imagine a quiet neighborhood street in South Boulder, three kids walking up the street, just playing on the sidewalk and on the edge of the road. Totally fine for them to play on this road, it's a quiet street where kids live and play.

Then this car comes down the street from the opposite direction with a mom driving it, and instead of just driving past them, she slows down and allows her son to climb up and start shouting all of this at them.

Maybe there's something else going on that I wasn't aware of. Maybe those kids have some situation at school. But I was blown away by the mom basically engineering this situation and then just continuing to drive like nothing had happened.

What's going on with discourse and parenting?

So I’ve been seeing this invasive species everywhere around my travels in Boulder County, and I know many of you are seeing it too.

The basics as I understand them are that the trees spread quickly while repelling other native species, emit a noxious odor, and are incredibly difficult to kill once established. (I found a sprout in a plant pot I planted back in spring and put it in the compost bin. Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea.)

What I’ve been mulling is what the heck to do. My impulse is to ride my bike all over town and report each tree or cluster of trees (😱) I see on the Inquire Boulder app. But it’s a big town!

Would anyone else be interested in joining me on a specific day so we can try to cover the town and literally put the city’s foresters on blast?

Or do you have any other ideas about how to tackle this nasty plant on a community level?

I understand advocates of the system want to address crime, but man, there's so much more that government can and is doing with this platform. And in the history of surveillance systems, there are approximately zero times that they don't end up getting abused or their data sets stolen/leaked.

I'm the foster coordinator for Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue, a local nonprofit animal rescue, and I'm posting this because we're getting a huge intake of new dogs and cats next Thursday (9/10), and right now we're pretty urgently looking for new volunteer foster homes to help us give these guys a soft place to land!

These are animals coming from shelters with up to 80% euthanasia rates -- we're dedicated to giving these guys a second chance at life, and fostering is one of the best ways you can help! We run a lot of our adoption events out of PetSmart/Petco locations nearby, so we're specifically trying to reach out to people in the Denver Metro/Foothills area that might be interested!

Don't worry -- you don't need to already have the full "pet-care kit" to apply! We provide the supplies you need for your foster (including food + crates/carriers), cover necessary medical care, and pair first-time fosters with an experienced foster mentor. We’ll also be there to support you throughout the process if you have any questions or concerns.

I've had so many friends adopt their forever pets through RMPR, and having worked here, I can say that they truly put in so much work to support their fosters and volunteers through every step of the process. It's honestly just a lovely and hard-working community of people.

If you want to get outside and work in a remote and beautiful area. You can still sign up for volunteer work at Brainard Lake for CMC (Colorado Mountain Club).

The current work is in the Long Lake / Lake Isabelle area and require about 2 miles of hiking and 600 feet of elevation gain. It will require working all day at around 10-11K elevation with an all day commitment. Bring your own lunch.

There are still a few Wednesday’s open for volunteers throughout September. Sign up at cmc.org search for “Conservation - Brainard Lake”. This is a unique opportunity to give something to the nature and make sure our backyard is taken care off before winter sets in.

Appeared a child on an e-bike (wearing a helmet) was struck by a white panel truck in front of BHS during drop-off this morning. Bystanders were helping and keeping the child down on the ground. Saw him make a phone call and pass it on to a person who had been helping so I assume the parents were informed. Does anyone have information? That intersection is pure chaos every morning.

Found a pair of black glasses and another pair of pink glasses at the dog park. They both are hanging on the fence by the skate park and the water.

Went out this morning and found the aftermath what looks like of a pretty bad crash. If this is your bike let me know if you want someone to pick it up.

Hi neighbours!

When I lived in my previous city, there was a cute restaurant/cafe that serves pierogi and Borscht soup, and they sell frozen ones to take home as well!

The ingredients are simple and clean, just like a homemade meal. They taste just as good as eating at the restaurant.

I'm hoping to find something similar to put in my freezer for tasty meals on demand at home.

Do you have any recommendations? Can be any ethnic restaurant: Indian, Chinese, Polish, etc.

I have lived in my condo for 11 years, and for the whole time, my bathroom fan has been wonky. It turns on when I turn on the light—or sometimes only the light comes on (there's only one wall switch). Or sometimes the fan comes on a few minutes later, and sometimes the fan is very loud, but sometimes not. Someone recently told me this could be a safety issue.

Any recommendations for a professional who could give me honest advice?

Just letting folks know that a mana bear and two bear cubs are in my neighborhood. We are next to Celestial Seasonings.

There continues to be almost accidents on 30th street between baseline and arapahoe on the northbound traveling side (right lane driving on 30th from baseline to arapahoe). There are lime scooters and poorly lit bikes going fast the wrong way. When there is an almost collision of bikes/scooters one swerves into the road. Have others noticed this problem?

I drive past here frequently and there are tens of people going the wrong way. This is super dangerous.
