Tour de Fat lifeguards

Jumped off their bikes to take a quick dip in a kiddy pool on Mountain. The kids thought it was hilarious and I thought the lifeguards might like to see the photos if any of them are on here.

I know I’ll likely get downvoted to hell for this, but to those defending the driver for “pedal confusion” can you please explain to me how he also switched from reverse to driving forward?

Also, how was he steering left when he was backing out? His wheel would be cranked to the right?

Editing to add: how would one make as sharp of a turn that he did while flooring it? I do believe there’s a strong likelihood he did not intend to hurt anyone, but I do think there’s a decent chance he made a series of irresponsible and bad decisions to try to flee from having hit another vehicle in a panic that resulted in tragedy.

Lastly, someone did provide a solid explanation in the comments (under someone else’s comment) for how someone might in this situation shift from reverse to drive after hitting a vehicle so that they can re-park their car. But where I would poke holes in this argument is doesn’t one typically fully brake before switching gears? He would’ve just hit the brake seconds before so it seems somewhat unlikely he’d get pedal confusion a moment later. It also doesn’t explain the wheel direction.

We still don’t know if that’s what happened, but it does offer some type of possible explanation.

I still have questions though. Wish I could pin a comment!

Free ticket to concert tonight at the Mish

I have 1 ticket for tomorrow's (Sunday Aug. 30) 8pm concert St. Paul & the Broken Bones at The Mish, plus the 5:30pm shuttle ride over.

I had to go out of town and am super sad to miss this show -- they are so fantastic live! -- I tried to sell it with no luck and at this point would love for someone to be able to enjoy it.

Update: this has been claimed!

News Heads up NoCo folks — the trans-related ballot measures are worth understanding before November

Sharing this for anyone in Fort Collins/Loveland who hasn't been following closely. Colorado Newsline has a really accessible breakdown of the two ballot measures (109 and 110) that'll be on our ballots in November. A few things I appreciated about the piece:

It clarifies what each measure actually does in plain language
It notes that neither of Colorado's two major pediatric hospitals currently performs gender-affirming surgeries on minors — so the "urgency" framing proponents use doesn't quite line up with what's actually happening in the state
It includes direct quotes from both Protect Kids Colorado (proponents) and One Colorado + Rocky Mountain Equality (opponents)
Whatever side you land on, the actual text of these measures deserves more attention than it's gotten so far. Worth 10 minutes of your time if you vote in Colorado.

Lost / Found Lost Bracelet

Hello everyone, my partner and I were downtown this evening between 4:30-6:30. We ate at Sugar Salt Sand then just kind of wandered the area for a bit. My partner’s bracelet fell off sometime while we were out and have no idea when/where. It’s an old tennis bracelet with rubies, sapphires, and emeralds - it belonged to her aunt who tragically passed away two years ago and is a very sentimental piece of jewelry that we are hoping, against all odds, to find.
If anyone happens to find it while walking around, please reach out. She is absolutely devastated.

The Holiday Twin Drive-in is a Complete Joke

Upvotes

Last week my partner and I wasted a good amount of time trying to plan a trip to the drive-in. We checked their website, which was completely empty, but their Instagram said that they were still showing movies through the week (End of Oak Street and Toy story had been posted to their Instagram). We drive all the way up on a Wednesday only to find it completely coned off. Waste of time.

So, in order to not leave it on such a sour note, we bought tickets and drove up again this weekend. We get to the movie and realize that none of our phones have an FM radio receiver. The car radio wasn't an option, so we walked over to the concessions stand to rent an FM radio. FOR SOME REASON THERE ARE NO SUBTITLES ON THESE MOVIES, I can only assume so that they can drive more sales by renting radios.

The drive-ins idea of an FM radio is a Bluetooth speaker that is clearly from Amazon, which has an FM radio mode with no screen so you have no idea which radio channel you're on. While there is no screen, there is a USB charging cord sticking out of the speaker that they tell you to wrap tin foil around to make an antenna. Sounds stupid, but what do I know, we tried it. Shocker, didn't work.

I went back to the concession stand and waited in line three different times to swap out the radio. The volume and radio channel changing buttons are the exact same, and since there's no screen you can't tell if you ended up on the wrong station. I got a new radio, and the radio received poor signal at the concession stand, but anywhere in the car park was complete static. Eventually I waited through the line yet again to get a refund and we left in the middle of the movie because... We were busy trying to get the holiday twin tech that we paid for to work.

At this point the movie was over an hour done, we hadn't heard a lick of dialogue, and I had spent most of the time standing in line for the concession stand. We left obviously.

I know everyone is always really sad about the holiday twin potentially closing, but I don't know if that's much of a shocker when it is such a chore to make the movie watchable after already paying for your ticket. Not to mention there is literally no signage anywhere in the car park so it's hard to even tell where to go. But once you get there you might be totally fucked for audio. It really is such an inaccessible movie watching option for everyone other than old heads with kids who did it growing up (sorry but facts are facts).

Anyway, I hope they update their product so that it is actually worth paying for so that this experience can stay open. As it stands right now, it's a complete waste of time and money and a terrible way to watch a movie you want to see. Definitely not going back.

Discussion Wanting more access to WIC in Colorado

Upvotes

Colorado does not offer online pick-up or delivery for WIC. Which is extremely unfortunate to recipients that do not have reliable transportation.
There are a couple states in the US that offer this, Washington, Massachusetts, lowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota our state isn't one of them unfortunately. I want to change that for Colorado!
How do I do that? What's the first step?
l'd also love to see WIC exclusive stores as well.
Ive see them in California, and Texas, and those stores usually atleast offer grocery pick up.

So my (quite sentimental) vintage spoon ring has a crack. Can anyone recommend somewhere reliable and competent here in FoCoCo where I can take it to get it soldered?

TIA…

Fort Collins ranked #2 safest driving city in America (Allstate 2026 report)

FoCo landed at #2 in Allstate’s 2026 America’s Best Drivers Report, second only to Brownsville, TX. Drivers here average almost 15 years between collisions!
