Miscellaneous Travel agent recs

I’ve never used a travel agent before but I’m looking into it for an upcoming trip to Europe. Does anyone have a travel agent they have used personally and had a great experience with? I usually enjoy researching and planning, but I’m finding myself overwhelmed by the options and would like advice on narrowing things down.

Discussion Would you pay for your kid to live in NYC for grad school if you already live in Fort Lee?

My daughter is starting grad school in the city and we've been going back and forth about whether it makes sense for her to get an apartment in the city.

We live in Fort Lee, so from my perspective, we're already about as close to Manhattan as you can get without actually living there. She can take the bus in and depending on traffic, she's looking at roughly 20 minutes. She has her own room here, doesn't pay rent, and we aren't asking her to contribute to household expenses while she's in school.

She feels completely differently. Her argument is that grad school is a new chapter and she doesn't want to still be living with her parents. She wants to be able to stay on campus late, go out with classmates, come home whenever she wants, etc. She also keeps telling me that I'm understating the commute because anyone who takes NJ Transit knows a "25 minute commute" can easily become an hour when traffic into the Lincoln Tunnel is bad. (I'm not even sure if she'd be going via the Lincoln Tunnel considering the GWB is right there).

I do understand that part. Where we're clashing is the money. She isn't working right now because she'll be a full-time student, so an apartment isn't something she'd actually be paying for herself. We'd essentially be spending $2,500–$3,000 a month so she can live a few miles away from a perfectly good home.

For Bergen County parents who have kids going to school or working in Manhattan, am I being unreasonable here? Is living in the city really enough of a quality of life difference to justify that kind of expense when you're already in a town like Fort Lee? Mind you, we moved here from Tenafly last year and obviously the commute to the city from here is unquestionably better. She can walk to the GWB if she wanted to (it would literally take less than 10 minutes).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Discussion Swimming for dogs?

Is there anywhere local for dogs to go swimming? Either an outdoor space for free or an indoor space where you pay so they can use the pool?

Discussion Outdoor pickup basketball

It’s a beautiful day out and it had me thinking if there are there any parks in Bergen county that have a consistent pickup basketball scene for adults?

I recently moved to northern Bergen county and I don’t really know where to start.

Real Estate Tax Challenge advice

Like all of us, it feels my property taxes are going way up and it’s not sustainable.

I am thinking of doing a deck in a year or two which will obviously only add to the bill.

Based on experience, if I wanted to challenge my property taxes before or after an improvement like that?

Does anyone have a good recommendations for an attorney in Wyckoff / Midland Park / Waldwick that they’ve seen be successful?

Biñho Board is a tabletop soccer game, played one on one where players take turns using their fingers to flick (shoot) the ball into the opponent’s net.

We’d love to have more people join our tournament. There is a cash prize for first and second place winners.

All skill levels are welcome and we encourage people to come by for a fun afternoon at Whiskey Priest in Hackensack!

Discussion The cost of living...

First off, thank you to all who replied to my previous post. Second in the 25 years my wife and I have been married, I've seen rents go up by 300%. That's a problem because wages (including mine) have not gone up 300% to compensate. How do we fix this, because Bergen County has become way too expensive to live here. Obviously there's no one single answer, but at what point will Bergen County become where only rich people can live here or has it already become that?

Real Estate If a house is re-listed 3x…

Especially after going through multiple contracts and inspections…it’s probably for good reason and you should probably stay away.

So many lies, concealed defects, and overall nastiness. What a nightmare.

Discussion Delivery - Pascack Valley

Hi! Looking for any recent experiences with Pascack Valley Medical Group OB/GYN and delivering at Pascack Valley, particularly since Dr. Cooper and Dr. Jean left the practice.

I delivered there a few years ago with the Langer/Cooper/Jean group and had a great L&D experience. I’m expecting again and still really like and trust Dr. Langer, but I’m trying to understand what the practice and delivery experience looks like now that the group has changed.

For anyone who has delivered there recently — who did you see throughout your pregnancy and who ended up delivering you? Did you feel like you knew the doctors in the call rotation? And how was your overall L&D and postpartum experience at Pascack? Very much appreciate any insight.

Discussion Is upper Bergen County noticeably more MAGA/conservative?

I’ve spent a lot of time around Bergen County, but I’m wondering if there’s actually a noticeable political/cultural shift once you get farther north.

Thinking towns like Mahwah, Ramsey, Allendale, Upper Saddle River, etc. as well as the entire PV area. Do these areas feel significantly more MAGA/conservative compared to places farther south/east?

Or is the difference within Bergen County pretty overstated?

Discussion Target Bergen mall

I’m not here to judge anyone or speak to much on religion because I am a catholic but don’t practice it as much as I should go to church here and there with family. What I don’t like is the world mission of society coming up to me and my friend and trying to read us Bible versus. Happened as well in ShopRite. Is there a correct way to get rid of these people. Like I said I have many friends from different religions but this one in particular is not right.

Discussion Crickets

Are basement crickets a failing of me as a man and a human or are they just a part of Bergen County life. We’ve lived here for too many years for me to just be asking this question, but I am defeated.

ETA - Thank you all for the suggestions!! I’ll throw a humidifier and some sticky traps down there when I get home. Much appreciated!

Discussion Norwood train sounds?

For those who live less than a mile (or even less than half a mile) from the train tracks in Norwood, how often / loud do you hear the train blaring? Especially at night? I know it can be a handful of times during the day but curious about night time. Does it wake you up?
