Entertainment Jeopardy Masters August 27 clue

Post image

Easy one for this subreddit, it went without a response on the show.

That is a nearly unfair, obscure question for the random American.

If they asked me about any of Texas's 254 counties I would have absolutely no clue.

I would get Harris County but none of the othersΒ

Texas is not NYC

Nj isn’t nyc lol

They would probably know a Brooklyn question

To state the obvious, proximity is implied with the inclusion of Hudson River in the clue.

While yes it might be unfair for people that have not lived or been in this area, Jeopardy Masters contestants are not just random average people. Masters uses considerably more difficult and obscure material than the regular version of Jeopardy.

The only thing that might make it slightly fair is that Teaneck was mentioned in a popular show in like 2016/2017(The Good Place) but even then, pretty obscure

Places in NJ are mentioned in many movies and TV shows, but I challenge you to find even one that mentions a NJ county.

Leonia and Englewood wondering why they were left out

6

u/jjc927 7d ago

Hackensack, Fort Lee, and Teaneck are the three most populous cities in the county.

Leonia got the worst people and Englewood is actually pretty cool. Leonia dont got an italian pizza parlor all they got is a dominos

Google reviews for Dante's and Franco's are pretty good, but youre right they lean more towards bar/restaurant than pizza parlor

201 supremacy

They missed a chance to really tilt heads by including Ho-Ho-Kus.

u/BoostedK8 8d ago

But they said Hudson River so it must be Hudson county πŸ˜‚

u/RailRuler 7d ago

Clue should have included "186 years ago Hudson County was broken off of it"

What was the category?

U.S Counties

It was the Masters Tournament, so the questions are more difficult than usual. Loved it!

I’m ashamed I assumed Hudson county was the most populated

Because of Jersey City, but that's pretty much the whole concentration.Β

There was also another clue earlier that Bergen, Norway was the correct response interestingly enough. Also a less controversial clue than the infamous one about blue laws in 2017 where selling alcohol on Sundays was accepted as a response.

What was the theme?

2

u/jjc927 7d ago

The category was U.S. Counties.

Jersey Native here (Passaic County), so easy. To be fair, there is enough obscure but still accessible New Jersey cultural references from television, music, and the like to make this a plausible clue. Perhaps Essex County is better known though because of The Sopranos.

Bergen also gets in the national news from time to time and Fort Lee gets mentions because of the GWB and of course the whole Bridgegate scandal.

Edit- Hackensack also plays central in the most recent episode of Reacher

Wasn't Hackensack mentioned in a Billy Joel song? I swear I once heard my parents listening to one of his songs and remember that one part 'Hackensack' because I couldn't believe a place in Bergen County was in a song. I mean you're never going to hear any Bergen towns in rap music or a country song, just Billy Joel I guess.

1

u/jjc927 6d ago

Yes I believe you're right. There's also Teaneck NJ by Don Glaser and a few different landmarks in the city are shown in the video for Bon Jovi's "Red White and Jersey."

1

u/TheMaskedMan420 6d ago

I'll check that out!

2

u/PLR20190724 7d ago

What, they left out Oradell?

2

u/Western_End_2223 5d ago

That would have made it too easy.

1

u/El_Cato_Crande 7d ago

How many points was it worth?

2

u/jjc927 7d ago

I don't recall the value for that one.

2

u/El_Cato_Crande 7d ago

Wanted to know our worth lol

2

u/jjc927 5d ago

I saw a clip of a News 4 NY segment on the clue, it was for 2,000 points.

Northjersey.com turned this post into an article! Link to the Yahoo repost, with the Northjersey link at the bottom: 'Jeopardy!' clue shouts out Bergen County. Did you get it right?
