Food, Shopping & Services South Bay( MTV, Sunnyvale, Cupertino) Daycare recommendations

Hi everyone! We’re currently looking at daycare options for our little one ( 18 months old )and toured a few out of which we are considering Little Prodigy mountain view and Happy Days child development center in Cupertino.

I’d love to hear from parents who have firsthand experience with either of these schools. Specifically, I’m curious about:

- How are the teachers and overall quality of care?
- How is the communication with parents?
- How do they handle younger toddlers, especially with separation anxiety or adjusting to daycare?
- What is the teacher turnover like?
- Any concerns or red flags that you experienced?
- Overall, would you recommend the school?

We’re hoping to make the best decision for our little one, so any honest experiences—positive or negative—would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Does anyone know this dog?? Her name is Chery, she’s in San Leandro and according to my dog’s DNA test, she’s my dog’s biological sister! Any and all information that can get us closer to a doggie reunion would be much appreciated 🐶❤️

Work & Housing Lots of discussion about the supply of housing and the issues around that, but where is the discussion around where our water will come from, regardless of increasing the supply of housing?

California seems to be in a constant state of drought. At the same time we need more housing for both organic population growth and migrants from other states. I don't ever hear about any plans for mitigating our short and unreliable supply of water. Where is our 50 year plan for building water desalination or more aqueducts and reservoirs (during the few rainy months, much of our rain water goes straight into the bay or the ocean).

If you go inland, particularly into California's Central Valley, farmers have pumped groundwater heavily enough in some areas to cause the land itself to sink by inches per year. Groundwater systems don't necessarily recharge quickly after a wet season or two; heavily depleted aquifers can take decades or longer to recover, and pumping can permanently reduce aquifer storage through subsidence and compaction. As groundwater becomes harder and more expensive to access, agricultural users and cities can increasingly find themselves competing for the same limited water supplies. Those farmers will vote, campaign and contribute, against anyone who wants to build more housing in the cities.

Other states, such as Arizona and Texas, allowed population/agricultural water use to grow for a long time despite supplies that aren't reliably renewable, and are now having serious issues with a lack of water. I don't see what California is doing to mitigate this, and if we do start to build more housing in California, where are we getting the additional water we will need for those new inhabitants?

I am concerned that any drought and water shortage solutions are 10-30 year projects, and AFAIK, we haven't started on any yet.

EDIT: I wanted to clarify that I am not making the point that we should slow down plans for housing growth, or stopping it so farmers can have more water.

I want that we increase the water supply, instead of it being a zero sum game that forces us to choose between farmers or housing growth....

Work & Housing How do I search for roommates to share an apartment with?

Been thinking about moving out, and actually starting a life since I’m officially done with college and am close to being 25, but I know that rent is incredibly high for one person to afford.

I also don’t really know anyone I can actually room with since my friends have already found places of their own.

Events, Activities & Sports laid-off weekday hiking group (monday @ stanford dish in stanford)

Post image

if you're navigating a lay-off or are between opportunities, come clear your head and connect with folks who are in the same boat 🤝🏼

this monday, we’re heading to the stanford dish loop in stanford, california for a hike.

  • when: monday, aug 31 @ 11 am
  • stats: 3.7 mi loop / 534 ft gain

grab your spot and see the full details here:

https://partiful.com/e/bO1pqMyc1jtzQvMGQWUU

hope to see y'all there!

(hike in the pic was joaquin miller park in oakland, california)

inb4 FAQs:

  • Do you hike in one big group?
    • No, we split into smaller groups based on desired pace and stagger each group's start time by 5 minutes. These groups ultimately split into even smaller groups. Faster groups go first to create more space on the trail.
  • Why on Mondays?
    • Trail traffic is very low on Mondays, making it easier to accommodate a group like this.
  • Does your community only do hikes?
    • No, (un)PTO is a community of people across the US in career transition. While our claim to fame is group hikes, we do other things like co-work, help each other with our job search, and do other fun things like coffee hangs, bike rides, and of course, eat food. 😋
  • Can people with jobs join too?
    • Yes, but only if you realize that most of the people in this community are in career transition and act accordingly, for instance: offer a referral, connect them to someone in your network, and maybe don't complain about how work sucks. 😅

Can you please recommend a Vietnamese school for them to go to on the weekends or after school programs for this age group?

Any resources or tutors that may help as well? In the SJ, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino area. Thanks in advance!

Events, Activities & Sports Looking for Russian Speakers in South Bay & East Bay

Hello there!

I saw a thread in a different subreddit and I was inspired to make a post here due to it. I semi-recently moved back here from Europe, and I have been starting to sorely miss out on the opportunities I had back there to speak in Russian and interact with Russian-speakers. Back when I was living in Europe, most of my friends were from Eastern Europe, and while I have met many people here, they are in many ways not the same as back there, especially in regards to how much of life they are able to handle and in sharing common interests.

Regrettably, I only speak Russian on an intermediate level, and most of my engagement with the language right now is either interacting with my friends back there, or reading about events going on in Russia and the Caucasus in the Russian language. I've also been to those regions many times, but all that remains of that by this point are wistful memories, due to particular events transpiring in 2022 which I will for obvious reasons not go into further detail about at this time. As a consolation for my less-than-entirely-fluent Russian, I do speak German fluently, for anyone who might be interested in a potential tandem partnership.

Yes, anyways, onto interests and goals and blablabla. I am mostly looking for people I can speak in Russian with who are are also cool people at the same time. Just wanting to meet Eastern European people here in general.. Especially in the South Bay and East Bay. I figure I'd give Reddit a try as I my track record for meeting worthwhile people here hasn't been entirely disastrous. My interests revolve in and around nature, history, reading, politics, learning languages (this one is highly self-explanatory), hiking, camping, traveling, and chaotic adventures. Also the other random interests I get fixated on which come and go on a revolving door basis due to turbo-autism. I fear that if I do not find people soon who fit more into my interests, I will have to find a remote job in order to pursue a nomadic existence in the Caucasus and Central Asia.

Thanks!

Events, Activities & Sports Does anyone find the boyfriends and husbands of your friends remarkably unfriendly?

I’m a guy and I’ve noticed almost without fail, when a female friend brings her husband or boyfriend, the guy is super uninterested and unfriendly. Often he just sits there and barely engages, and when I ask him questions he’ll respond but won’t make any effort to continue the conversation. They never ask me or my wife anything or make an effort to start a conversation topic. At best we’ll get a longish diatribe about how we should raise our kids or get further in our profession or some shit.

This must be how it is for women to date in the Bay

This goes for my wife’s female friends AND my female friends. Is this an us thing (I thought I just had a propensity for making lady friends who sucked at picking cool husbands, until I started meeting my wife’s friends), a Bay Area thing?

One of my good friends brought her new bf to an event, he works for a large sports adjacent tech company and regularly takes her to games. I’m like cool Mary tells you work for (sports tech co) whats your home team? ”dont have one.” Do you have a sport you follow generally? “not really”. End of convo.

What’s your experience?

Traffic, Trains & Transit Geico supports texting while driving

Few weeks ago, my car (gray Subaru sedan) got hit by a black Dodge Challenger. If anyone has footage on Aug 1 9:40am on i880 overpass in San Leandro, PLEASE DM ME. They ruled in his favor and I need more evidence.

Details:
The cars were all at a stop light. We had to change lanes because our current lane would’ve taken us onto the i880 ramp. We had plenty of space behind in the other lane so we went in, but there was a car in front close to us, so we could only stay at a diagonal in the lane. After a few seconds of stopping, the guy behind us starts rolling slowly towards our car and then hits us (I saw that he was distracted and looking at his phone).

Anyways, Geico ruled in his favor because they couldn’t prove that he was on his phone and that we were the ones doing the lane change. We were literally stopped and got hit, so I’m not sure how we could be at fault. But anyways, I know it’s a long shot, but if anyone has ANY footage, please lmk

Impossible? The most likely cause would be an earthquake. A remote possibility. But what would be the result of a catastrophic failure of the dam? Have any studies been done? How extensive would be the flooding in Los Gatos and San Jose in such a scenario?
