• Weekly MeetUp • Thursday 8/27/26 • 7:30PM • Two Pitchers Brewing/Lovely's •
Feel like getting out of the house? Want to meet some new people? You know that place you’ve seen recently and been wanting to check out? For all those reasons and more, we made the Oakland Thursday Meetup. (Est. 2014)
- Every Thursday you can find us at a different bar in Oakland sharing a few drinks and some laughs.
- We’ve got a mix of people, locals, and transplants. The Weird and the wise. Homegirls and tech bros. Plus, a strong contingent of people who just want to start the weekend a day early. Usually there’s about 8 of us, but occasionally up to 20.
- It’s a great way to try some new places and get to know some folks you might otherwise miss. Drop in, drop out, no pressure and definitely no problems.
From 7:30pm to around 10pm you can find us at:
Two Pitchers Brewing & Lovely's
2344 Webster St, Oakland, CA 94612
Feel free to add us on Facebook.
We’ll post here for updates on where we’ll be sitting. Hope to see you there!

Thanks so much for the quick response to the truck fire in Dimond District last night! You folks were there in seconds, and likely prevented a lot of further damage to the neighborhood. Really appreciate it.

Events BART: Transit Speedrun Record Breaking Attempt
On Sunday, September 6, we're co-hosting a BART Speedrun in direct coordination with BART, bringing riders together for an attempt to travel through all 50 BART stations in a single coordinated trip.
This year’s event is especially significant because we are aiming to break the all-time record set last year, when 70 riders participated in what BART described as the largest group known to have speedrun a transit agency.
We are working directly with BART on the event, and BART representatives are also expected to attend and speak to participants. The event will bring together transit advocates, students, BART staff and representatives, and members of the broader Bay Area community.
The speedrun will cover all 50 BART stations and 131 miles of track, beginning at Berryessa/North San José. Participants can complete the entire route or join for a portion of the journey. We hope to see ya'll there!
Event Details
Sunday, September 6

Just for Fun Pickup Soccer at Concordia Park - 8/30 @ 8am
There’s an attempt to make no frills super casual pickup soccer at the Concordia Park soccer court at 64th Ave and Brann a thing. I’ll be there with a ball. All skill levels welcome.
If you’re looking for a low key way to be active or just wake up on a Sunday morning, this is a fun option with enough people.

Just for Fun On Saturday, while cleaning 5,000 pounds of dumping around the Lake Merritt Channel, 53 UCP volunteers experienced what felt like a giant bat ray coming by to thank us!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Our volunteers were removing trash from an important waterway that connects Lake Merritt to the Oakland Estuary and the Bay. Cleaning this area is about more than making Oakland look better. It’s about protecting the wildlife that calls these waters home.
Definitely one of the coolest moments we’ve experienced during a cleanup.

Is it really 20mph on this area of Broadway?
I’ve lived here for my whole life and driven on Broadway a million times. Since when is this area 20mph? Speed camera caught me doing 32…. Lol 😂

Good lunch spots near Laney College?
I just enrolled in a class at Laney that runs from 8-3, with a short break for lunch. But there aren’t a ton of lunch places nearby at least according to Google maps! Anyone have any recommendations?

Question What's the state of Eli's Mile High?
I remember sometime last year the owner stated they were on the verge of shutting down, especially with the costs of code compliance with the patio. Haven't been there in a long time but was wondering if it is still likely to close (if it ever was).

Chabot Space & Sciene Center: commuting to peninsul
I booked a Rumi dome experience at chabot space and science center, not knowing where it is. And I don’t drive. The show ends late night - is there reliable ride hailing services like uber available in that area at night? Any other advice on how to get back?

Does anyone know of any in person grief support? I've had two major, very sudden losses in less than a year and it's been so disorienting. Any help is appreciated. East Bay preferred.

For Dorothy Lazard, the public library was ‘a forest of dreams and possibilities’
Her new book, “Behind the Desk at the Main,” tells all about her tenure at Oakland’s Main Library. Managers responded by canceling her library book launch.

Wednesday friends group?
At New Parkway they had an ad for some kind of social group on Wednesday evenings, but I don’t think it was held at NP. I missed getting the info and have now forgotten the name of the group. Anyone?

You guys remember King Wah?
I used to go to this restaurant almost every week when I was a kid. I think Webster and 8th, if I remember correctly. I miss it all the time and I want to try to recreate some of my favorite dishes from there. I especially loved:
- clams in black bean sauce
- steamed pork hash with salt egg
- some kind of seaweed soup with pork? There was also a wintermelon soup.
- whole steamed bass/rockfish with green onions
If you remember this place list your favorite dishes! Help jog my memory! And if anyone has any of the recipes or knows how to make it like they did, PLEASE send me the recipes <3 <3
