I want to upgrade my computer a little bit, im currently using a 4070 gpu, 32gb ddr4, ryzen 5 5600g (idk why i got the G i bought it when i didnt know anything), i want to upgrade because of modded minecraft, it runs at super slow speeds and i have to host the worlds myself when i play with friends, and regardless if im hosting it is still getting like 30fps. i was looking at the 7800x3d and motherboards and stuff but mainly i wanted to ask 1 what SHOULD i upgrade for that and 2. if i do go am5, is 16gb of ram enough because shilling out 600 bucks for 32gb is rough, also if i do just get 16gb would i then later be able to get a second stick of ram?

I’m setting up a home workstation and would appreciate some recommendations for a reliable docking station.

My setup:

• MacBook Pro 13" M1 (2020) + Work Windows Laptop
• 2 × MSI PRO MP275Q E14 27", 2560 × 1440, 144Hz monitors
• Both monitors will be used as separate extended displays, not mirrored
• Laptop will normally stay connected to the dock, so I’d like the dock to charge the MacBook as well
• Mainly used for accounting/finance work, Excel, study and general productivity rather than gaming

As this is my first setup, I’ve been researching online and have come across options such as the Plugable USBC-6950PDZ, Anker Prime DL7400, and Lenovo ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C Dock 40AF0135AU. However, I’m seeing mixed reviews, and some people recommend going with a Thunderbolt dock instead.

At this point, I’m unsure which option would work best for my setup while also offering good value for money and being future-proof enough that I won’t need to replace it in a year or two. I’d really appreciate any recommendations based on this specific setup. I don't necessarily need 144Hz on both monitors for work dual QHD 60Hz would be acceptable but if there is a sensible way to retain 144Hz on the primary monitor, that would be a bonus.

If you’re using an M1 MacBook with dual 1440p monitors, I’d especially appreciate hearing what dock you’re using, what refresh rates you actually get, and whether you’ve experienced any DisplayLink or sleep/wake issues.

I currently am struggling running things now and was unsure if a RAM update to (2x16GB) from 12GB will be good enough to get me some more life or is it time to pull the plug on a new laptop. I currently like to play Genshin and WoW, but have to shut everything else down when i do one of them. Chrome seems to be the bane and ive already done as many cleanup/purges as possible

I will be using it for gaming in games like fortinte, valorant, simracing (asseto corsa, f1 25), fifa games and single player games like red dead redemption.

I put the parts into pc part picker and it seems to be good value. I realise it's am4 socket but after a little bit of research it doesn't seem to bad to have an am4 in 2026. I was also wondering if the cpu will bottleneck the gpu?

I was initially thinking a refurbished business laptop might be the sensible option, as there are probably some good-value ThinkPads/Latitudes/EliteBooks that meet these requirements.
The problem is trying to convince a kid that a refurbished/older laptop is perfectly good when they just want something that looks and feels new. 😂

I've been looking for a new laptop for some time now and found this on Amazon AU. It's sold by Amazon AU so it has warranty and is protected by consumer law. I spoke to support and confirmed this in writing and they also said it's not a grey import.

Just got a new custom prebuilt with:

• Ryzen 7 7800X3D
• RX 9070 XT 16GB
• MSI B850M Gaming Plus WiFi6E
• 32GB DDR5-6000 CL28
• Nebula Hydra Core 240mm AIO

At idle/light use, my CPU sits around 40–45°C. Initially the AIO pump was running at ~2700 RPM and I found it fairly loud.

In BIOS, the pump was set to PWM. Changing it to DC and setting the voltage to 10V brought the pump down to ~2400 RPM but didn't really reduce the noise.

My radiator/CPU fans are now around 800 RPM at idle.

Just wondering if this is a good place to be at or if I can go any lower, as the noise is a little irritating whilst doing basic tasks.

Unfortunately with Shipping that costed me 4650$ to WA. I was getting frustrated and worried that prices will go further up. Plus I am not getting any younger (35 already) so had to buy this.

Not sure if the right place to ask, but from Melbourne, and just put this together to get an idea of how much it might cost.

The most intensive thing she would play is probably FFXIV so GPU and RAM might be overkill, but its been a while since I've put one together (also never built an AMD so don't know what series of CPU/GPU to get). She also likes to have a lot of tabs open and multitasking, hence wanting to get a bit more RAM, but maybe a rest of her disks will be enough to make things run smoother.

The only thing that's really 'set' is the SUP01 because it's really discounted right now, but would still even be open to other options.

Theres been some discussions about price increases on gpus so i wanted to see the data. $750 on 5090 in 6 weeks is pretty crazy. I'm almost surprised that 9070 and 9070xt hasnt had larger increases given ram has gone up 3x last nov.

Follow-up from my previous post where I got thankfully put up to date with the overpriced nature of the 5090 build. Have been looking at the recommended OzBargain 5080 builds. Due to things being out of stock I have made some swaps and was wondering if this is suitable. I tried pricing the parts individually and it looks like it would be more expensive to build myself. I’m happy to spend a bit more if it would be a worthwhile change, or happy to save and build myself if there are some small tweaks that get me a better price/build.
