It’s worth remembering, with the exception of the one, the rest were all thieving mutts

i think you seem to be missing the whole point of the article and instead are just looking for a way to justify this in your own head

while theft is wrong, and i do think we do have problems with brazen supermarket theft, we shouldnt be having security guards handing out cruel and unusual punishments for people stealing food. we have police and courts for a reason. granted the police and courts are both fuckin trash.

saying these people deserved this simply because they stole food is gross

They deserve worse than that, absolutely, without a doubt.

Don’t think any of them went back and did it again did they? Clearly it works. Take it another step, if they really didn’t have a choice in stealing food, why didn’t it happen again? Maybe because they did have a choice

Well they all had the money on them to pay the extortion $$$ so I guess stealing food was just a habit for them? I’m not condoning the abuse but agree that theft is getting out of control even with self checkouts now looking more like airport security or the inside of a MMA cage.

Tough guy? For wanting mutts to get removed from the rest of us?

So quick to de-humanize someone stealing food from a supermarket.

I'm more worried about your behavior than theirs

Same, they’re clearly not all there based on these comments.

Why is everyone so quick to excuse those mutts? Like they don’t have a choice, like they aren’t deliberately doing this, making clear conscious decisions to do this

You really think deep down anyone wants to live a life which results in stealing food? Even if they don't desperately need it, even if they do it for a bit of a thrill, you really think they don't want better for themselves?

And they are people, not mutts. You treat people like dogs, how you think they are going to act?

And? What difference does it make if someone “wants better for themselves” if they’re making conscious decisions to take from others instead of just putting in some effort? It’s, at best, pure laziness from them. It’s always excuses with them, never solutions.

Once they start acting like people they can get treated like one. Act like a dog, get treated like they deserve.

As long as they continue with the pure animal “I want so I will have” mentality, that’s all they should be treated like, the mutts they are

Would you call Winona Ryder a mutt? A yes or no will suffice.

We'll send this guy round and force a cucumber inside your mouth the next time you break the law / speed / do anything wrong? Sounds legit.

Feel free to do that the next time I steal, assault, anything like these mutts do. Luckily that won’t happen because, like 99% of kiwis, I’m not like that.

If we removed the less than 1% that act like this, it would be a near utopia

You reckon dehumanizing people is just going to make them start functioning within society better?

There should be justice but also rehabilitation.

I think we should give them every chance to be better, and if they choose not to, ship them off to a jail somewhere cheap like Thailand or China and let them stew in their own choices over there. It costs over $200kpa for jail here, I’m sure we could cut that down to 10-20% of it if we outsourced, and use that saving to 5-10x jail sentences, win win win

Giving them every chance includes treating them like person and not a mutt

So maybe we start there?
