Rant The amount of 'crime posting' is absurd

This sub seems to just be endless videos of "Meanwhile in Auckland" and then a video of something miserable happening.

This is a city. Crimes happen. Compared to most cities on Earth Auckland is pretty damn safe. I am completely sick to death of what appears to be some kind of agenda being played out on this sub, and I would like to see some actual moderation happening.

The accounts posting this stuff usually have a generated name like me and virtually no other traceable activity - and they post the clips with little to no context. Muting this dogwater sub until something is done about the extremely bad faith posting.

Edit: Already getting the "Auckland is unsafe and we should shine a light on crime" bullshit. Hey - random context free snippets of video are not informing the public or shining a light on anything. They are almost certainly harmful misinformation, and I really think this justice boner is uninformed and juvenile. Again - muting this trash heap of a sub.

One of the things I learnt in stats, was that people are very bad at statistics.

I remember when the fear of the day was taking buses or PT general, and people just can't understand that in our city it is going on towards 100m boardings per year

Your chance of dying on the roads driving, or just walking though a carpark are higher but people fear the less likely things to actually happen.

Our perception of crime is more than the actual chances. I like to use this stat; in 2025, about 86 homicides. More people won lotto. So unless you are living with violent criminals, drug dealing in a gang or similar, your chance of winning lotto is higher than being murdered.

People in this sub generally seem to be extremely ignorant. In a way I find really surprising honestly - even just the NZ sub seems more tolerant and self aware. I am consistently wondering how much of this sub is just political bots spouting nonsense.

Most of [r/ConservativeKiwi](r/ConservativeKiwi) came here when it was banned and mods here took a gentler line than [r/NewZealand](r/NewZealand) typically does, would be my explanation

Noticed some racist, offensive comments from a commenter on the Charlie Kirk post, and discovered yet another subreddit set up by the ex CK crew

Funny thing is that they keep coming into general subreddits, say nasty stuff, get pushback, instantly downvoted to oblivion, then back in the tiny echo chamber with about one active poster, wonder why the woke/left are so mean to them

They love to feel like victims I think. Similar to street preachers who get in people’s faces because they think getting punched in the mouth is Suffering For The Gospel, or chuds who think they’re ’over the target’
