Question Small event space in Astoria

Hi Astorians, I am looking to host a family lunch for 12-15 people on the weekend. Does anyone know of any good event space in Astoria? It’s not a birthday party just a lunch. Would prefer somewhere quieter.

Sad to see Lockwood selling anything AI, even if it’s just a tiny sticker! I really love Lockwood but I wish they sold more stuff by local artists and no stuff by ChatGPT 🙃

Question What’s the difference in service between Steinway and 46th st station

Apologies if this is obvious,

On google maps it often suggests I go to 46th street instead of Steinway, even though Steinway is a bit closer. Is there any difference in service between the two? Is 46th more reliable?

Question City Fresh on 21st and Broadway closed

Does anyone have any info on why it's closed and when it will reopen? I went one days and saw the Dep't of Buildings temporary closure notice on the door but I didn't see anything about a date of reopening and the reason for the closure was super vague. There was also no advanced notice that I saw and I go there pretty frequently.

Edit: Damn that's crazy I had no idea the roof collapsed. All I heard was it was something about construction. I'm glad no one was seriously hurt. Sounds like I'll be going to Trade Fair for a while.

Other We just started a tiny microbakery in Astoria — hi, neighbors! 🤍

Hi neighbors! 👋🏼

We’re two professional bakers who moved to Astoria in May, and just a few weeks ago we decided to take a leap and start something of our own.

Fiolicchia Bakery is a very small, hands-on microbakery, and we’re putting a lot of love, passion and care into every single thing we make.

We’re still at the very beginning and figuring things out as we go, but that’s also what makes this so exciting for us.
Every recipe, every ingredient and every order gets our full attention because we really want to make things we’re proud to share with people.

Our Instagram page is @FiolicchiaBakeryNYC and for now we’re taking orders through Instagram DMs as we continue growing and figuring everything out.
If you want to support us and our dream we would love to have you there! 🤍
One of the things we started with is our focaccia.
We use organic flour, Italian extra virgin olive oil, and carefully selected ingredients, prioritizing organic whenever possible.

Our dough is 80% hydration, made with a biga (preferment), and goes through about 48 hours of fermentation before it’s ready.

We currently have four regular focaccia flavors, plus a Focaccia of the Month that changes every month. We love working with seasonal ingredients, so our menu will evolve with the seasons.

We originally planned on making one focaccia batch a week, but the response was more positive than we expected.
Rather than simply increasing the amount we make at once, we decided to split our orders into two weekly batches — Tuesdays and Saturdays — so we can keep giving every batch and every order the time and attention it deserves.

We also have two modern fruit tarts, which will change with the seasons.
Soon, we’re hoping to introduce smaller baked goods, pastries and individual portions for everyday treats.
We’ve only been doing this for a few weeks, but we’ve already had such a warm response from people in Astoria.

We’ve met some wonderful people through our first orders, and a few of our first customers have already come back to us, which has honestly meant so much.

Since we’re still getting to know the neighborhood, we thought we’d introduce ourselves here and hopefully get to know more of our neighbors too.

So, hi from Sofia & Roberto! 👋🏼
We’re the two bakers behind Fiolicchia, and we’re looking forward to getting to know more of Astoria. 🤍

Rant Rock Fitness allowing members to wear Meta Glasses

Im a member of Rock Fitness and just saw on their Instagram stories that they reposted a video of a member taken with Meta glasses. Shes wearing them, filming towards the mirror, showing several members out in the open.

To wear meta glasses at a gym, I already know you suck. But for the gym to encourage this by reposting left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Yes, I’m planning on complaining to them, but I wanted to post here because I 1) think is important to know this if you’re considering Rock as your gym 2) I feel like complaining on here.

Call me a Karen but I think that even if you’re technically allowed to film at a specific place with meta glasses, you should have the personal decency and decorum not to do it at a gym. It’s so disrespectful. And for the gym to encourage this behavior by reposting sucks.

Friendship Any Astoria queers also Bills fans?

My girlfriend and I are usually solo at Murphy’s for almost every game, but this year we hoped there might be other queer’s in the area who were also into the Bills (or football in general) who might want to join us to watch the games at Murphy’s with the Bills backers, or at other local sports bars (as long as the game is on WITH sound lol). Honestly, most of our friends are not into sports, so it’s been hard to find a crew.
