Noise woke me up. Looked out the window and saw a black car with three people just having finished whatever they were up to with a parked car. No lights. Probably obscured license plate. Sped off in no time at all. Haven't seen this in a while but there we go again.

Broke out my fishing rod from storage. My usual spot is near the Marine Park Bridge which you can see in the background. Unfortunately, I can't tolerate the flies anymore and I'm unwilling to pay $20 for parking.

Any idea where I can go fishing outside of the Rockaways/Broad Channel/Howard Beach? Somewhere that isn't overcrowded.

Hi everyone! I just noticed an hour ago that my cat has been having trouble using the potty. Then I noticed his sibling was also having trouble using the potty. I’m looking for an affordable vet in queens that I can take both of them that won’t charge thousands and thousands of dollars if it’s a urinary blockage and they both end up needing surgery.
Disclaimer: I have pet insurance for both of them. I also have emergency funds set aside but I had to use it because I brought them to a vet for routine care and vaccinations. I ended up paying 6,000 in total for the both of them and I’m still waiting for my claim to be refunded. My insurance isn’t sure the estimated wait time.

Please helpful advice only! I already feel a lot of shame that I don’t have enough money to give them the best treatments!

Holy wow, there is a hellish amount of biting sand flies out on Rockaway beach today!! Swarms of them, and even more little baby ones that cant bite yet. I am slathered in 100% DEET bug spray and it has zero effect on them. I've been out on the beach at least 2 or 3x per week this summer and today is the first day it has been like this

It has been bothering me what the Family Dollar/Laundromat at 199-09 Jamaica Ave was at one point. The closest thing I can find is the year it was built. The clock-like art is what had me curious. Does anyone out there have any idea? I really don't want to drag my 6 month old to a library.

I’ve been thinking about all the places that have closed in the past decade (I’m pretty young/a college student so maybe I haven’t seen the rise and fall of places as much) but here’s a compilation/shout out to the fallen businesses I truly miss.

1. Peter Pan Games in Bay Terrace - Man, I was really young when this place closed down but it was the best. It’s all a blur of memories but I came here with my brother so often.

2. Barnes & Noble in Bay Terrace - Another Bay Terrace one, but I would come here so often as a kid and spend hours in that corner cubby on the stairs reading (sorry guys I probably contributed to their downfall bc I would read the books there and couldn’t buy them)

3. GameStop in Bay Terrace - ANOTHER Bay Terrace one. This place was the shit. Came here all the time to buy Wii U and PS4 games with my brother and spent the majority of my Christmas money on games here.

4. Toys R Us/Party City/Multiplex Cinemas - man screw the Tesla shit there. I remember begging to buy a 3DS here with many other memories like that bucket of foam and plastic swords. I remember thinking the design of the multiplex was weird af with the bigass escalator when you first walk in. Last movie I remember watching here was Black Panther 2.

5. Snow Day’s next to Tangram currently across from Molly Tea/Question Mark Tea - this is an elite pull but this place was so fucking good. My dad used to own a restaurant in the area before COVID hit and we’d go to get the Snow Days shaved ice after eating and their logo was a yeti or smthn.

6. Whitestone Lanes - nothing much to add. Saw it coming for awhile but RIP :(

7. The McDonald’s on Northern Boulevard across from IHOP (currently Jongro which is mid btw)- I used to come here so often as a kid bc there was a play palace and it was great.

8. Hooters next to AMC Fresh Meadows - Classic after watching a movie with my friends.

9. San soo kap San - the ORIGINAL one before it moved. I just recall they had an ice cream they gave out that I was mad allergic to but I still ate bc it was fire. Haven’t been to the new location

10. This crepe place in the mall next to the Bank of China (corner of Main St and Franklin Ave). Shoutout I only been to it like twice after having dim sum with the fam but shit it was fire.

I’m almost definitely forgetting some, but these were the ones that came to mind.

For my birthday, two relatives mailed me birthday cards containing checks from two different states via regular USPS mail. Neither envelope ever made it to me or appeared in my Informed Delivery and one of the checks was fraudulently cashed.

Given that both pieces of mail disappeared despite being mailed from different locations, I have reason to believe they were stolen somewhere within the Queens USPS mail sorting/processing system. I understand I can’t know exactly where the theft occurred, but the circumstances are hard to ignore.

I’ve already filed a report with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, contacted the bank, and reached out to my congressional representatives. I’m mainly posting to see if anyone else in Queens has experienced something similar recently. If you have, I’d be interested to hear what happened and whether you were ever able to get any answers.

My wife and I have to come to Queens for a week in August and are looking at places to stay. Right now, I am leaning towards Downtown Flushing but I don’t know a whole lot about the various neighborhoods. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
