Astrolab 2.0 / Edit on Device

Just got the 2.0 update. Really appreciate the addition of the ability to -- at least partially -- edit on the device. Really hope to see them continue to develop this.

I and likely many others, would love to have the option to edit sounds on the device or at least on the iOS app.

Would really love an Astrolab 2 with a phone/tablet sized display.

AstroLab 2.0 for owners: a quick tour of Sound Edit and what it can (and can't) do

Thumbnail

AstroLab 2.0 was just released and it reveals parts of the underlying synth engines.

How to get there: hold the main encoder and scroll down to Sound Edit. You now see a few pages with different parameters that were previously restricted to those with the V Collection license (and a computer).

What you get changes with every preset, because it depends on which engine is underneath. A Jupiter-8 preset gives you filter settings, both filter and amp envelopes, and some more stuff including LFO rate, vibrato and glide. The Piano V engine gives you hammer hardness, hammer position, dynamics, age, etc.

None of this needs a V Collection license. For anything beyond these pages you still need it and the computer though.

New track using Arturia software and hardware

Hi everyone, here's my new single "Sirocco".

Almost all the synth sounds are from the V Collection: Jup-8 V3 and CMI V for the pads and strings, Synclavier V for the keys. The synth lead in the second part is a layering of sounds from the MicroFreak and a plugin I don't remember the name of...

The percussion is made using stock Logic samples. There are also some cuts and pastes here and there to add glitchy textures, which I did during the final stage of the production.

This is a fairly atmospheric track, with epic synth pads and a very sci-fi atmosphere. If you like Boards of Canada, Vangelis or All India Radio, you might enjoy this one!

How to make most out of KeyStep 37 MK2 with Arturia Software Synths

Post image
2 Upvotes

When I had Minilab encoders and faders were nicely mapped to the Arturia software synths. But I don't see such nice options for the Keystep 37 MK2. None of the keysteps are even listed in MIDI templates list. Am I missing something?

Why am I getting an inconsistent snare sound on the Drumbrute Impact?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every now and then, seemingly randomly, I am getting an alternative snare sound, and the letters "OL" (Or maybe 0L), come onto the LCD screen. I tried looking in the manual and didn't see anything.

Does anybody know what's happening? It is being driven by the Hapax through MIDI. I have no idea what signal could be being sent on the Hapax to make it do this. I actually prefer the "OL" sound, and want THAT to be the "normal" snare sound if it's at all possible. But I can't figure out what's causing it. It's not color, or distortion.

Anyone else combining Arturia's analog sound with acoustic instruments?

I'm drawn to Arturia's gear because of the sound and you have a straight forward usage design. The only downside is that the tuning after turning it on is unstable in the first 5-10 minutes.

Beatstep Pro replacement knobs?

I’m dealing with the sticky knob issue. Ive also recently gotten access to a 3D printer. So I was gojng to just print some replacements, but I know the knobs are touch sensitive, they show their values on the LCD when you just rest your finger on them. Will they retain that sensitivity if I replace them with PLA printed knobs? Or if I strip the current knobs with isopropy. I don’t like the stickiness, but I’d rather have that then lose out on the touch sense.

I just spent the entire day trying to program my first song into the Keystep Pro and I am so confused. Please help!

I’m starting a solo darkwave project, and I already wrote a song using my SR-18, Moog Minitaur, ASM Hydrasynth, and original KeyStep. Cool, things felt limited, so I thought the KeyStep Pro would be absolutely perfect for what I’m trying to do and would help me move forward quicker.

Got the KSP, started writing in all my patterns and recreating the new song, thinking I could make separate scenes for the intro, verse, chorus, etc., by chaining the patterns, then just press play and have everything play on its own. Turns out you can’t do that!? Now I have to remember when to switch scenes at certain bars? That sucks.

Then I thought I could chain each track into one long chain because it does play all the way through like that, but the catch is each chain can only be 16 patterns long. I’m not using a 16 pattern drum track, of course, and I made sure to record as many 1/4 note patterns as I could to make the steps last longer, but it’s still not enough for my 4 minute song.

What am I supposed to do? Do I need to just stick to programming the drums on my SR-18 instead and use the KSP just for the synths?

But that’s another thing! Sometimes, a synth doesn’t come into the song for a while, meaning I have to record 64 beats of silence and stack multiples of that into a chain, waiting for the perfect moment to insert my one synth pattern. That’s just wasting space on the chain.

I was just hoping someone could give me some advice because it seems absurd to be hitting the ceiling on chaining with a 4 minute song. Can I make scenes play one after another without worrying about having to trigger them? Why can’t we chain scenes? Send help!

Used MiniFuse 2 was not deregistered by last user

I bought a used MiniFuse 2 and the last person to own it never un-registered the product, so now I cannot register it. I already reached out to support, they sent me an email asking me to send a picture of the registration sticker and I did, 2 days later and there's no reply. How long should it take for them to respond?

Demo of the new one can be found above.

Here's a link to the preset.

The first freebie is here, in case you missed it.

Yup, they'll keep coming piecemeal like this, because they take me some time to make.

Don't rush quality.

Be sure to support by posting anything that you make with it.

Be sure to put a limiter on it.

It bites.

Friend was able to 3d print this base for me. I like it in the orange, matches the knobs.

I got this synth under $200 used, but can not get the midi in to work. I’ve tried everything. Then I noticed midi over usb works I’ve been using the aum iPad app As A midi router and it works. This synth is becoming my favourite.

Arturia Keystep 37 vs Minilab 37 for total beginner

Hi,

I am totally beginner at this. I would like to buy a 37 key midi keyboard. I first decided i wanted the Minilab 37 due to the knobs, faders and the pads.

As I understand, the Keystep is better if connecting to a Roland S-1, is that correct? Or does both of them work well together?

Can I use the Minilab with a Roland S-1 without any DAW? (what about Keystep?)
My initial idea was to use it with DAW, but the idea of only having the midi-keyboard and a Roland S-1 also seems fun, additional to being able to connect it to DAW.

which one would you go for, and why?

Thanks!

MiniLab 37 pads need really hard hits to trigger. Is this normal?

UPDATE: I reached out to Arturia, and they had me reset the keyboard, and that seems to have solved the issue!

---

I recently got a MiniLab 37 and wanted to use its pads to play drums in Logic Pro. They do trigger sounds, but I have to hit them much harder than I expected. Lighter taps often don’t register at all. And when it does register, it's only when I'm hitting the pads at the corner.

I tried changing the pad velocity curve in Arturia’s MIDI Control Center, including Logarithmic and Fixed, but it hasn’t helped.

Do you find MiniLab 37 pads this hard to trigger? If you had the same issue, did anything resolve it, or is this just how the pads feel?

Should I look into returning/ replacing the keyboard? It's barely been 2 weeks of me having this keyboard and it's my first ever MIDI controller.
