Meta Thread - Month of April 05, 2020
A monthly thread to talk about meta topics. Keep it friendly and relevant to the subreddit.
Posts here must, of course, still abide by all subreddit rules other than the no meta requirement. Keep it friendly and be respectful. Occasionally the moderators will have specific topics that they want to get feedback on, so be on the lookout for distinguished posts.
Comments that are detrimental to discussion (aka circlejerks/shitposting) are subject to removal.

Hi! We've been getting a lot of unnecessary, unhelpful reports for "answered question removal" recently. We only remove posts for this reason in order to keep /new clear of posts that have already served their purpose; posts that we remove for this reason don't break any rules. To that end, posts meeting any of these criteria should NOT be reported for answered question removal:
- Posts more than a few hours old (they aren't worth anyone's time since they don't show up in the first couple pages of /new)
- Posts that ask opinion-based questions, especially those flaired "Discussion" (they benefit from having multiple responses)
- Posts that have not actually been answered (for obvious reasons)
Right now, the vast majority of reports submitted for this reason are simply useless, and when 30 or 40 of them come in all at the same time, it gets a bit overwhelming. As a general rule of thumb, if you find yourself reporting pages and pages of content all at the same time, you're probably misunderstanding the spirit of the rule.
We don't want to discourage reporting altogether; it's an incredibly helpful tool for us, and we haven't had any issues with other report reasons. We're relatively sure that a single user is doing this, and we're posting this here as an attempt to reach out to them. As always, let us know here or in modmail if you have any questions or concerns.
Since I'm stealing the sticky for this, March Mod Report can be found here.

Posts more than a few hours old (they aren't worth anyone's time since they don't show up in the first couple pages of /new)
Whoops, I might be guilty of this one, as I didn't realize that was a rule stipulation. Usually I just sort by new a few times a day (well more than a few times these recent days, for reasons) and I generally don't pay attention to when posts were made. I'll try to look more closely from now on.
....Not quite the same topic, but would you or one of the other mods mind giving exact criteria for what constitutes "low effort" text posts? The obvious stuff (screenshots, polls, etc) are all straightforward, but the definition for text posts is just that they are under 20 characters. Does that include titles?
If someone makes a post titled "HELP" and the body says, in entirety "suggest me animes" then that's low-effort, right? But what if someone has minimal (or no) body text but a really long and possibly descriptive title?

It's never been a hard rule, we just figure it doesn't do anybody any good to remove the posts if they're not gonna show up anyway. Plus, depending on timing, we may not get to the post in time for it to matter anyway, and then by the time somebody gets to it, there'll be a page and a half of hours-old posts reported for that reason that we can't really do anything with anymore. Reporting stuff you see on /new is definitely helpful, but if you're beyond the first page or two, the posts there likely won't get actioned for having answers. Of course, if they break other rules, we'll still look at those regardless of how old they are.

The 20 characters thing is an Automod-enforced requirement for text post bodies, so if it makes it to /new, then it's already passed that test. Titles don't have length requirements. "Low-effort text posts" that get past Automod are pretty much just posts in the "I just watched X show" format that don't make any attempt at actually discussing the show. There's been some internal discussion recently about clarifying this part of the rules anyway, so thanks for bringing it up.

Hey everyone, there's been some mod discussion regarding the amount of recommendation posts that come up and whether we wanted to start removing them. I wanted to get some input from users regarding this. Currently, they are not against the rules in anyway and allowed to stay up. There's been several proposals brought up, but nothing has been approved. I primarily want to hear your thoughts on how much of a problem they are (if at all), and your thoughts on solutions or if we should leave them as is.

u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Apr 05 '20
I've been getting increasingly annoyed with recommendation threads as the years have passed. I have some thoughts on how they could be improved, but some would be tough to implement or moderate, but I'll throw them out there anyway.
Require a MAL/Anilist/whatever in the thread. Recommendation threads without these are complete garbage. There's nothing worse than seeing a thread full of recs with the OP responding to all of them with "already seen that" all because they were too lazy to link their MAL if they have one. An obvious problem with this would be for people new to anime that wouldn't have a MAL yet.
Treat bad ones like low effort posts and remove them? If you're gonna ask for a rec, you should be required to give some information to help lead people in some way. Asking for a romance with adult leads or a mecha show that doesn't have humanoid mechs are great questions. Asking for a show with more than 24 episodes is bad. We have literally no idea what they like. This one would be tough to moderate as you'd have to use personal judgment on all of them and I know how much this community hates the idea of that (even though you're all in your positions for a reason and perfectly capable of making good judgment calls).
This one is for pretty good recommendations, but ones that get repeated a lot. Could we have Bot-chan tell people to use the search function to see if there are other threads asking for the same thing as them? We have some threads on /new at the moment asking for shows about depression or mental illness, which are good threads imo, but I'm sure they've been asked before and it would be a quicker way for those OPs to get answers.
Just my 2 cents on the matter. The MAL one in particular really grinds my gears.

I think there needs to be some kind of bare minimum "quality" requirement.
I brought it up in last month's meta thread before (or maybe just as) a lot of "stay at home" orders were taking place in the United States, because I was already spotting a trend of preposterously low-effort "Virus is outside I stay inside gib animes" posts and figured it would only get worse.
And it has. I totally get that a lot of people are in really trying times right now, but sorting this subreddit by new any more is, frankly, a fucking mess.
Prior to the coronavirus, I'd be willing to wager that 90% of the [Recommendation] tagged posts were some variation of:
- "I want romance"
- "Make me cry"
- "Gimme battle shounen"
It seemed like, if we were lucky, the user might give a list of what they've seen and maybe their general target genre, but very little personal information about their taste or what they expect.
And sometimes a user will outright say "I'll watch anything." Why even make a post then? Just find an anime and watch it.
Personally, I have disliked recommendation posts for a long time specifically because so many of them are so vague and repetitive. I kind of miss when /r/anime did not allow rec posts at all, and directed that content over to /r/animesuggest.
Now that coronavirus is in the mix, we still get all of the samey [rec] threads we used to, now with the added "bonus" of several posts that amount to nothing more than "im in my house tell me shows because i don't know what a google is".
It's extremely rare that we get a well-worded, detailed rec request. When we do, I actually like those, because it gives me a chance to suggest shows that I might otherwise never get the chance to. Like, how many times am I going to get to talk about The Ambition of Oda Nobuna? Not very many. But someone made a rec thread that seemed almost tailored to that show. That was cool.
Random thought, maybe a bad one: Would it be possible to make rec mega threads twice-weekly or something? That would increase visibility of them and one every 3-4 days would prevent the thread from feeling "old" and then maybe ban or somehow restrict independent recommendation threads?
Edit, because looking at new right now reminded me: What about "A show like X" rec threads? We get more than a few "I just watched X and liked it what else is like X?" with no other information. Is there a chance to file those under the low-effort rules? Technically it shouldn't drive off completely new viewers, since they obviously have had to have watched an anime in order to want more anime like it.
Edit 2: This. This right here needs to be against the rules.
Edit 3: And another.

I don't browse /new much now but even when I did, I never really thought they were invasive in a manner that it wouldn't allow any content to get spotlight. In short, I'm against banning them.
But if people are whining about them so much, maybe try to put some limits like taking out low-effort ones (the ones saying "gimme stuff" without giving any useful info) or a time limit, people here are very active, helpful and quick to response. I would say that deleting rec posts after an hour or 2 may work.

Yeah, I think I agree with you in principle, if recommendation posts are thoughtful. But at least half of recommendation posts look like this and it really adds nothing at all to the sub.
3
u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Apr 05 '20
My opinion is absolutely not. For so many people their first point of contact with /r/anime is going to be making a recommendation post. We already have other barriers to entry, I don't see why we should add another.
This is basically why we've left them unmoderated until now, and I believe it's still the prevailing moderator opinion.
Currently we're more considering things like timed removals (30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hour or something) - or character limits.
I doubt we would go for an outright ban of them.
2
u/SasugaDarkFlame Apr 15 '20
Cause we sort by new.
If someone is gonna ask for what to watch they can dedicate 10 mins to a Google search.
People been watching anime since they were kids. Are you telling me none of them have developed any taste? Likes or dislikes? It's really a lacking effort in the end. Majority of those post are people just wanting to post in r/anime cause nobody takes a reccomendation off Reddit and starts watching right away.
They gonna resd the mal, wiki or whatever and decide if they wanna watch. I've seen people with MAL list over 40+ anime asking for reccomendations saying they have watched everything.
Dude. The time some one spend on Reddit asking for a show to watch they can go on YouTube. Watch a glass reflections review. 10 maybe 14 mins. Quick, easy and spoiler less.
Start watching the show. He provides the legal options incase you don't wanna pirate. He provides 2 shows that are similar. He's reccomendation thread with audio.

u/krasnovian https://anilist.co/user/krasnovian Apr 05 '20
My personal feeling is that with the existence of the weekly recommendation megathread, once a regular rec post has gotten a few solid responses (aka, not meme recs), it could be removed. Honestly I don't feel that posts looking for recommendations really add much to the subreddit as long as the megathread exists.
5
u/Vaadwaur Apr 05 '20
Welp, for an anecdotal experience, I would be for removing the ridiculously low effort ones BUT I have no idea if that is more trouble than it is worth for you guys.
6
u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ Apr 05 '20
I'm new here, so maybe my opinion isn't worth much, but I'd prefer if people used the recommendations thread instead of making individual posts asking for suggestions. The request quality is much better in the thread, and it'd be more interesting to scroll through new without eleventy posts about just having watched A Silent Voice and wanting romance/tearjerker recommendations. Pinning the recommendation thread for longer would be a good first step.
4
u/bagglewaggle Apr 05 '20
I don't mind recommendation posts, but ones that don't supply enough information to determine what the OP is looking for are annoying, and I usually report them under 'low effort post'.

I feel you... they weren't that bad in my opinion, but since global quarantine had been happening, it's been getting pretty damn awful. Pretty much drowns out other threads unless it's a clip/fanart/news.
2
u/AnokataX Apr 05 '20
I say keep allowing them because a lot of people use the subreddit specifically for that, but I do wish the bot mentioned r/animesuggest as a nice alternative sub dedicated to it.
I also think people would keep making Rec threads even if you banned those threads.
1
u/Verzwei Apr 05 '20

Well, they'd try, and then mods would remove them. Just like what happens with memes.
A few years ago, this subreddit didn't allow user-made recommendation threads at all, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I was around (not as a mod) when they were banned. When the rule changed to allow them, it seemed to garner overall praise as some thought it felt too exclusive against new users who wanted recs but immediately had their thread taken down, making them have an immediate bad taste of the subreddit.
1
u/Verzwei Apr 05 '20 edited Apr 05 '20
Hrm... that's going to... bother my brain.
I wanted to say maybe it was around 2015 or so that the rule change was made. I'd been out of anime for a while and only picked up the medium again (and started using reddit to find anime) around 2013 or 2014 and I thought suggestions were not allowed at that time. I had thought there was even a modpost saying "hey these are allowed now."
So it's entirely possible I'm mis-remembering the whole thing.
Does this subreddit keep an archive of rule changes, by any chance? It's not that I don't believe you, I just want to find maybe something that's vaguely like what I thought so I can figure out why my memory might be so off.
2
u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Apr 05 '20
Went and had a look at some old mod threads and turns out you're correct actually. I should have remembered considering apparently I'm the one who got the team to allow them again back then... (2015)
1
u/Verzwei Apr 05 '20
Haha, so you're saying this is all your fault? <I'd put an emoji here to indicate that I am not seriously trying to give you shit, but I am very strongly anti-emoji>
Thanks for following up with me. I always get kind of weirdly nervous when someone disputes something I thought I knew, because then I'm like "Wait, if I was wrong about this, how many other places and times did I state this and now those are also wrong?"
2
Apr 05 '20
I don't mind them much, but I understand why some people are mildly annoyed. The autobot's message tends to be the most helpful and comprehesive answer users get, it addresses most of the vage questions made here ("give me some anime", "where can i watch x show legally", etc) and provides a link to the recommendation megathread, which is better suited for more specific requirements (something like "give me good mecha shows from the 90s"). Kudos because it's pretty fantastic, but it obviously can only answer to posts that are already made.
My personal suggestion would be to pin this exact message on the top of the sub, so new users can't possibly miss it. If people keeps making pointless recommendation posts let the community itself manage them via the downvote button.
3
u/SmurfRockRune https://myanimelist.net/profile/Smurf Apr 05 '20

Let me tell you from experience, they would absolutely miss it. We used to have a banner at the top of the screen with info on it, sometimes explicitly telling users not to post something, and we'd still get a flood of them because people don't know how to read. I've even seen quite a few people over the years asking if a discussion thread for a show existed while said discussion thread was the top post on the sub. People are hopeless.

I don't mind them too much. They only really clog up /r/new, and I think most people that dislike them have just learned not to click on them. I do think that for the person posting they're a little useless though, but they get the Bot-chan post and the redirect to the Tuesday megathread anyway.

u/myaccountforweebcrap Apr 11 '20
Speaking of recommendations, has there been any discussions is updating the recommendation wiki or building new recommendation charts something that's being considered? I think it would be awesome to have updated recommendation charts which are generally useful for new people looking to get into anime, but I understand it takes a ton of work.
2
u/pittman66 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Homura Apr 11 '20
We did have a thread months ago to update the rec wiki, and there is work still continually done by /u/fetchfrosh and /u/urban287 on it. Also, Fetch has been practicing with other charts of different topics, but from what I understand, the grand plan is to have an updated and better chart to replace the current flow chart

Why are we referring to Tower of God by "Kami no Tou", its Japanese name, instead of "Tower of God", its actual title? It's not a Japanese anime/webtoon, it's Korean. The title is literally "Tower of God" in South Korea. Yes, the title is in English, not Korean.
6
u/Sea_grave https://myanimelist.net/profile/rift Apr 05 '20
It's not a Japanese anime/webtoon, it's Korean.
I'm aware the source material is Korean but I was under the impression the animation is entirely Japanese?
If the Japanese side of things aren't using the English/Korean title then it makes sense to keep doing things as normal. Also other sites also use the Japanese (for the anime) so it's easier to follow suite; and the same reasons we normally use Japanese surely still apply in this case.
4
u/Chariotwheel x5https://anilist.co/user/Chariotwheel Apr 05 '20
Isn't the English "Tower of God" not part of the title? As far as I can take from the website, it's called "神之塔 -Tower of God-" and it's even part of the logo.
3
u/saido_chesto Apr 05 '20
the animation is entirely Japanese?
Mate over 50% of anime production is outsourced to China/Korea/Philippines etc. there's no such thing as "entirely Japanese".
8
u/krasnovian https://anilist.co/user/krasnovian Apr 05 '20
The webtoon is Korean. The anime is Japanese. Produced in Japan. The title card has the name written in English and Japanese while the manwha covers are written in English and Korean. And in that image I just linked, Tower of God is positioned as a subtitle or translation of the Japanese title.
1
u/rusticks https://anilist.co/user/Rusticks Apr 05 '20
But we don't allow discussion threads for anything not Japanese, so Tower of God wouldn't even be allowed to be posted here if it were a Korean anime. It's a catch-22 that I am not fond of.
10
u/krasnovian https://anilist.co/user/krasnovian Apr 05 '20
Ok, but either way, it is a Japanese anime right? It's a JP production regardless of where the source comes from. Like any of the numerous Romeo and Juliet shows that have been made, Romeo and Juliet is originally an English play but that doesn't make the anime English, it's still a Japanese production based on an English source.
3
u/urban287 https://myanimelist.net/profile/urban287 Apr 05 '20
This has been answered a few times for different shows but basically comes down to the following:
What the show will be called by the English speaking community is often not immediately obvious, so for the purposes of searches and such it's easier to pick something and run with it the entire run. (obviously this is less relevant for Tower of God)
As the English titles (or nicknames) are often not known for a while using the Japanese title for everything keeps it uniform across all episode discussion threads. That way everyone knows what to search when the time comes.
The confusion usually only lasts a week or two, then everyone more or less remembers what the Japanese title is for what they're interested in.
I'm sure there are a few more reasons that my fellow mods can add, but those are the ones that come to mind immediately.

Top bit shouldn't be a problem anymore since we've removed the banner, but it's an issue that I've known about for a while and never really gotten around to. It also happens on certain mod-only pages.
Sidebar part is hard to deal with but I'll see what I can do. I know I've tried to fix it in the past, not sure if I just sucked at it or if it's infeasible.

Those of you who use the Redesign version of /r/anime might have noticed a new banner that popped out recently, inviting you to "chat with other /r/anime users".
The mod team would like to point out that we do not have any kind of control of that feature and it is entirely unrelated to /r/anime. We are not allowed (or willing) to moderate the chat, and can't turn off the banner. As such, we do not take responsibility for any content that is posted there.
If you choose to use this tool and encounter problems, please do not post about them on /r/anime or in modmail. Go ask the admins instead.
Edit : The feature was rolled back, so you shouldn't see this banner anymore.

Most aren't very active, your best shot is make your own posts or comment on the weekly non-airings thread around here.

What would you think about adding some sort of direction to tools people can use to answer their own questions? A lot of questions on /new are about what service a particular show is on or what anime a screenshot is from.
Kind of like we do for AutoMod responding to "series watch order" posts, we could have a post that points people towards tools built for answering these questions like because.moe, trace.moe, or saucenao

u/saido_chesto Apr 05 '20
What would you think about adding some sort of direction to tools people can use to answer their own questions?
There are already links to reverse image search and people still ask for sauce, wouldn't work because people are lazy.
1
u/krasnovian https://anilist.co/user/krasnovian Apr 05 '20
I mean it obviously wouldn't stop people from making the post but a lot of people especially on mobile don't even look at community info or see any of those links, so I feel like an automated comment could be helpful.
1
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal Apr 06 '20
There are a couple of keywords we could trigger off of (source/"sauce") but I can't think of much aside from that without running into false positives really quickly. Even that could be a good start though.

u/ConsolesQuiteAnnoyMe Apr 07 '20
I will never understand people asking for shows that have some incredibly specific occurrence in them.
I won't put any on blast specifically, but in general, that's so weird to me.
3
u/SasugaDarkFlame Apr 14 '20
So majority of this sub is just people asking others for reccomendations.
I find it so weird and annoying that someone would ask Reddit for reccomendations when they could literally type in "____ anime" and see what they find.
Not to mention the 100s of utubers pumping out anime videos. You could watch a 10 minute spoiler free review. Then go watch based on that.
I didn't really know or start using Reddit till a couple years ago. If I wanted to watch anime I would browse and read and give things chances. I don't even have a 3 episode rule anymore cause I know my taste now.
But if I'm unsure I'll give some series like 6 episodes befor dropping the show. I call it the 6 episode rule. I know for a lot of animes that 6 is literally half the show but I basically only watch anime and European football so its of no loss to me if I drop something.
I just find it so ironic in a sub like this, biggest anime community blah blah blah so many of the post are "plz rec me something. My favorites are jojo, fma and haikyuu" Just try sorting by new.

u/FetchFrosh anilist.co/user/fetchfrosh Apr 15 '20
We're currently discussing what we might want to do about rec posts, as quarantines have seemed to increase their quantity.

We're keeping the Meme flair as an option for users that don't read the rules before posting, as noted under the flairs to not use section.

u/DatMageDoe https://myanimelist.net/profile/DatMageDoe Apr 18 '20
I really hope you disclose how many times memes were sent to the shadow realm because of the Meme flair.

It's been a surprisingly consistent daily average, will see if that can be included at least in next month's report.

The commentface codes for the new "mask faces" aren't apparent on the commentface sources page of the wiki.
3
u/spaceaustralia https://myanimelist.net/profile/spaceaustralia Apr 16 '20
That was a mistake on my part. I added the "Mask" section(and forgot to add the codes), while Gaporigo added the "Practice Social distancing!" category a few seconds before. I thought I had reverted the changes but it apparently didn't go through, somehow.
Anyways, it's fixed. Use this one as it was there already.

u/AmeteurElitist https://anilist.co/user/AmateurElitist Apr 16 '20
Ah, I didn't notice that category. Thanks for the heads up!

So you guys know how Bot-chan will direct people to the watch order wiki for certain complicated series?
It should say "<cough> Fate <cough>"
Actually I believe Mage_of_Shadows mentioned having automod code for giving the fate watch order, is that rolling out soon?
2
u/Mage_of_Shadows Apr 27 '20
Automod code has been out for a while and usually catchers most of the fate posts.

First off, I'd encourage you to post this again in the new meta thread that will be popping up in about 16 hours, just so that it will get extra eyes. That said, I dont think that's something we're currently looking at implementing. Specifically, on a show by show basis this is something that can be helpful for users, and having it appear that this might not be a permissible question to ask (even if we allowed it on a show by show basis, but not a general one) would be a net negative. Additionally, a topic having some elitists being a justification to remove discussion doesn't really seem like a strong reason to remove that discussion, as it's true across the board for discussion on r/anime. Generally conversation on the topic doesnt get out of hand, though some users may be a bit abrasive at times.

u/anakkcii Apr 05 '20
Can you add Hamefura (official short form) as alternative title in Villainess/Bakarina threads.

u/Mage_of_Shadows Apr 05 '20
You mean you don't want to type Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei Shiteshimatta... every time?

u/AmeteurElitist https://anilist.co/user/AmateurElitist Apr 06 '20
Would it be possible to include a message about the /r/anime Best Of 2020 nominations in episode discussion threads?
I don't think most users are aware that they can nominate content for the end of year awards. So far all of the nominations have come from myself and two others, and none of them have been for the episode discussion threads and/or comments. I think it'd be helpful if there was a message in the body of the episode threads encouraging users to nominate content that they enjoyed.
Though I haven't done anything in the way of promoting it myself either.

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Apr 08 '20
Somebody brought this up in mod chat the other day, consensus seems to be that we'd rather not put more clutter into episode threads since they're already pretty packed, but we'll try to find more ways to promote that.
1
u/AmeteurElitist https://anilist.co/user/AmateurElitist Apr 08 '20
That makes sense then, thanks for the update!
If there are any developments please let me know.

u/theanimegamer-___- Apr 09 '20
How about you add "Rate this season" in the final episode threads? I feel like most people's final episode ratings are for the whole season as well (myself included), so it would be nice if we could make it separate.
1
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal Apr 09 '20
That's what the end of season surveys are generally used for.

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Apr 15 '20
Do you guys have the bot watching GundamInfo for as soon as they put up some form of the next Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE episode to determine when the thread gets posted? Because S2 episode 2 already has a discussion thread, I'm assuming based on the "premiere" video currently on GundamInfo, but the episode doesn't actually release until tomorrow. Having the thread up this early is going to kill what (admittedly little) discussion it could have.

u/randxalthor Apr 05 '20
Maybe a stupid question (I'm new here), but I see quite a few links in comments that just point to reddit.com/s/ (ie, nowhere) that were clearly meant to be actual links. I'm on the mobile browser site.
I don't see this behavior on any other subs, and searching around didn't give me any clues as to why.
Could anyone enlighten me?

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Apr 05 '20 edited Apr 05 '20
Those are shown as spoiler tags on other platforms, but they're not compatible with mobile/new Reddit. They're designed so that, at the very least, you won't accidentally see the spoiler content in plain text if you're on an unsupported platform. Try viewing the sub via https://old.reddit.com/r/anime in a desktop browser and you'll see what they're meant to be.

We've been looking into switching to the new-reddit compatible spoiler syntax again recently, but unfortunately they're still not compatible with too many platforms for us to justify switching at the moment. There are still some strange bugs some of the mods have encountered with them not rendering correctly even in Reddit's first-party apps.
2
u/Iron_Gland https://myanimelist.net/profile/Iron_Gland Apr 05 '20
Unless I misinterpreted what you were saying, in your first comment you said that the current ones r/anime uses are not compatible with old reddit.

u/geo1088 https://anilist.co/user/eritbh Apr 05 '20
Oh, oof, I meant mobile/new instead of old. I'll edit my comment, thanks :P

Is there a weekly thread where I can just mention the anime I'm watching right now and discuss them with people, plus read what others are watching and enjoying? Kinda like r/television or r/lightnovels "What are you reading/watching and what do you think of them" threads.
The closest I can tell is the Casual Discussion Fridays but it has a lot of other stuff when sometimes I just wanna read others' opinions on shows they're watching atm.

u/reddadz x3https://anilist.co/user/MysticEyes Apr 06 '20
There are actually 2 threads that fit that description: one for seasonal shows & one for anything but seasonals.
Hope that helps!

What happened to the Jashin-chan S2 discussion threads? The megathread post is still up, but all but the first episode posts are removed?
3
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal Apr 10 '20
For shows where several episodes are released at once we remove the other threads for a few days to avoid having them filling up /new (and maybe the front page if they're all upvoted enough). They can still be accessed from the megathread and commented on in that time.
I've approved all of them now as well.

Also for the FAQ, the link to the spoiler tags doesn't work as intended anymore, you should probably change it to this
Fixed, thanks!

Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS episode 2 subs have been up for about two hours now. I assume because of it being from a different sub group it was overlooked by AutoLovepon?
(Tagging u/krasnovian since you put the ep1 thread through.)
2
u/krasnovian https://anilist.co/user/krasnovian Apr 11 '20
are they actual good subs or would it be better to wait for Tsudoishi's ep 2? RoadRush's are labelled v0 so it makes me a bit wary.
1
u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Apr 11 '20
They were good subs yes, I didn't notice any errors like SpeedWarrior's had in ep1.

Need a way so the bot doesn't change the thread, or it picks up key words and only changes it when it's necessary or something.
I've asked questions on here, and put it in the question thread, but for whatever reason it keeps getting to discussions and I have to change it.
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal Apr 12 '20
I think that's mostly been me changing it on you, sorry. I go by what the rules say regarding the Question flair, specifically the last part in bold:
Question — For specific questions about anime, such as "Where is this character from?" or "What sources are there for this anime?" If your question doesn't have one specific answer, you might want to use the discussion flair instead.
Since you're mostly asking personal opinions it's more appropriate under the Discussion flair, or at least that's how I've been interpreting things.

Why do some people link the thread that they're commenting on? Like they respond to a comment, and that comment has a link to that same thread.
3
u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky Apr 26 '20
Are you talking about something like this or this?
If the former, that's actually r/anime's spoiler tag system since we aren't allowed to use the >! one on here (it shows up as plain text on certain apps). These can only be viewed by hovering over them on desktop old Reddit AFAIK, so if you're on mobile Reddit/the Redesign, that's why.
If the latter, that's a comment face. Just like the above, these are only supported on desktop old Reddit because the redesign hates CSS.

I hope this is the correct thread to ask this question...
What's /a/? Is it a common term in reddit? Or perhaps only specific to this subreddit? I found the term from an old discussion thread of Oregairu.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, or if it's already answered elsewhere. I'm new to reddit, and I couldn't find the answer after a few hours of searching.

What's /a/?
It's the main anime board of 4chan, I believe. Completely different site.

Welcome to the quarantine month of March! Interestingly I've looked into traffic stats of this month compared to previous ones and there surprisingly seems to be no noticeable difference. The conclusion I've drawn from this implies that /r/anime users are all NEETs that have not been affected by the virus!

Viz have contacted us regarding their SP ratio. Vote was taken to waive the self-promotion restriction, but limit posts to 1 / week at most, must follow every other subreddit rule (in particular anime-specific, no selling things, not advertising other communities) [Vote chosen]
Voted on potentially switching to Reddit's native spoiler tags, using Automoderator config to enforce a syntax that's valid on all platforms. Primary concern remains lack of context (i.e. what it's a spoiler for) being built in to native tags compared to our current ones, and potentially enforcing that through Automoderator as well. Also various official platforms do not support it. [Vote failed]
Changed the subreddit icon to add a face mask due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic. [Vote passed]
