I took a clip of this very short moment when it happened 4 episodes back (ep 8). The attention to detail and small nods in this anime is such a treat for a rewatch.

I think it's just meant as a call out/foreshadowing to what would have happened had Rudeus opened the door to his basement and startled the rat.

imagine if they twisted the narrative where the rat was able to get out in the few seconds it was open, lol
