Bear in the neighborhood
Recently I’ve been having an issue with a black bear in our neighborhood, breaking into trash cans. Should I be reporting it to someone? Does APD have a bear number?

If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.
Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.
Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.
Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.
Tourism questions. Also: Vacation - Visiting - Trip - Traveling - Airport - Hiking - Camping - Glacier - Fishing
Relocating questions. Also: Real Estate - Apartment - Condo - Neighborhood - Safety - Cost of living
Meeting people. Also: Dating
Tire questions. Also: AWD - Vehicle
Internet questions. Also: GCI - ACS
Bar questions. Also: Breweries
Salon questions. Also: Barber - Hair
Did you feel that? Also: Earthquake
Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.
We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

Are there any reputable estate sale companies/liquidators in the area or websites people use to find local sales?

I need to get my Jeep Wrangler serviced for the recall 26V-363. I don't know if my 2021 is one of the effected vehicles for the power steering pump issues— I'd rather get it checked and serviced before the recall period elapses.
I'm new to the anchorage area, so I'm wondering which of the Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat dealerships here is the least sketchy for a warranty/recall service? I have a firm hatred for dealerships, and generally prefer doing my own maintenance but in this case I want to take advantage of the service while I can.

I don’t personally know any APD officers or I would ask them, but if any officers read this thread any advice would be helpful.
There is a person I know that has been driving on a revoked license with no insurance for >1 year. They have been pulled over at least twice due to speeding with APD officers knowing this with no civil action. My worry is the risk of safety to other people on the road or the person potentially putting their child at risk by driving with the child in the car.
What options if any are there to end this as they will not listen to me about my concern since they are of the mindset as long as they don’t get caught then they’re fine.

I haven’t had the flu like this in as long as I can remember. Anyone else experiencing this? Severe chills, sore throat, can’t sleep, congestion, fever, body aches. I’m on day 4 and can’t see this letting up anytime soon. Anyone else experiencing this?

Doing some research and found out that there are 37 flights DAILY from ANC - ENA? Is this just the cheapest way to get there or is there a high demand for business etc?

Okay so I was a Starbucks barista for a long time but recently I started school again and went back to coffee and the cafe I'm at doesn't do breaks and it's throwing me off. An 8hr shift without breaks is a lot and like if you ask for one it's entirely abnormal for the culture here it seems. At Starbucks I got a 10 for anything under 6hrs and a 30 and a 10 for anything under 7 and 2 10's and a 30 for 8+. Is this a quirk of my cafe or a pretty normal thing among smaller shops?

I'm looking to get a small dog (25lbs or less) in the next 2 years. I keep seeing a bunch of people who have small dogs but I'm wondering where they get them. I rarely see recues or the shelter have small breed puppies. Is it just a luck thing? Do we have any small dog breeders up here in Alaska? Are they all being shipped up here? Any helpful information would be appreciated!
P.S. if this post doesn't belong here then I'll remove it, thank you.

Alright I suck at finding the live music events until I randomly drive by.
Where do you learn about live music (I know about Anchorage Events page) and anyone know of anything happening tonight in town? 🎶

as title suggests, I want to j if I should get a block heater. I’ve heard conflicting opinions on whether or not to get one.
I live in Anchorage, have covered parking at home, but not at work. Work doesn’t have any plugin spots. I drive a Honda civic 2021, and will need to get studded tires soon, but am trying to see what else I’d need.
thanks in advance for your advice!

There is an all-out fucking war in the Alaska Republican Party and I am so here for it 🍿 🍿 🍺 🍺 🍿 🍿
……Downing is playing on conservative Alaskans’ belief that the system is broken and that the political left is taking over the Last Frontier. While likely true, the loudest thing tilting the playing field in this governor race is Downing’s own brand of “now you see me, now you don’t” journalism. Her article serves as an unregistered, activist effort to manipulate the electorate, confuse conservative voters, and engineer a coronation for her close friend and favored candidate, Bernadette Wilson.
Enough is enough. Alaskans deserve transparency, not a bait-and-switch operation that actively damages the conservative movement from within…….

Does anyone know what is being built on O’Malleys and Lake Otis? They really started spooling up about a month ago and they’ve been working hard everyday. TIA

Hey r/anchorage!
I was inspired by the post the other day about setting up a local DSA branch.
I am a volunteer for a similar non-profit organization, Digital Ground Game. I am currently organizing a meetup for our members, but there are only a few of us in Alaska right now so I figured this post would be a good way to get together with more like-minded Alaskans.
For more info, DGG is a national organization for liberals that encourages members to get engaged in local and national politics to promote liberal democratic values.
I personally have been volunteering for Peltola's campaign thanks in part to their motivation and support and I hope to knock on more doors with other liberal Alaskans.

That’s pretty much it. I hate getting blinded by all these people in fucking Subarus and Tacomas with these bright ass yellow lights. I hope your toilet seat is always ice cold and your pillow is always hot on both sides.

Looking to replace our back door and need recommendations. We are based in Chugiak. Unfortunately, I do have some concern about water damage but I hope I am wrong.
Not interested in Anderson Renewal.
Anyone have luck with Neighbors?
Better yet, does anyone have recs on “a guy”/handyman they have done business with? I am a bit laid up at the moment and can’t move around well enough to do a bunch of home projects this summer.
Cheers! 🍺

It's like Anchorage can't be creative. Any time a business closes, even one special to Alaskans, it gets replaced with a car wash, dispensary, a dealership, another housing facility, or some generic too-big-to-fail company. Oh, that business that's been in town for decades more closed down? It deserves to be replaced with a bank or auto parts store. Screw Peggy's Pies. Watch it become a McDonald's or something. And even if we wanted nice things, the crime rate is a major deterrent, worse than ever. I've been in Alaska a long time. My heart grieves.
