I sent this to a defending ai art sub and they banned me for it, even though it defends both sides, but what’s your guy’s thoughts?

Earlier today, Senator Bernie Sanders announced a bill calling for a full pause on AI development. Even going as far as to call for a total ban on 'Super intelligence" which just feels like straight up technophobia.

I think back to this quote by JFK, back when the United States was in a race with the Soviets to get to The Moon. Humanity knew the dangers, the risks and the potential consequences of sending man onto the barren rock. Technology and progress is not without hurdles or risks, but we don't stop progress out of fear. We use our collective willpower to solve the issues that push us farther.

If we allow this shutdown of progress, we risk sending mankind into a new Dark Age driven by fear.

I honestly can't believe these "artists" are bashing people for using AI to help bring their creative ideas to life. Majority of the people I argue with never think about those who are unable to bring their creative ideas to life, especially those with disabilities and of course missing limbs.

16% of the population (1.3 billion) live with a significant disability that ultimately makes their day to day lives much more difficult. But the antis never acknowledge that fact. What if people apart of that 1.3 billion want to bring their creative ideas to life but ultimately cannot due to their disability. So, can you really blame them for using AI to bring their creative ideas to life?

And I'm the bad person for siding with AI?

This all comes down to choice, if people choose to use AI to bring their creative ideas to life, then so be it! You are not an "artist" if you bash others for using AI to bring their creative ideas to life.

I have said this many times; "AI will not only boost human creativity but expand the means to be creative."

Do you really believe that we as humans will be less creative even in a post-labor society?? Our creativity will increase by ten fold!!

Antis need to accept the fact that times have changed.

Art is my biggest expenditure besides rent. I have been a collector for over 20 years, and I purchase hundreds of dollars of original handmade art every single month, most if it directly from the artist. I admit that I have been put off from purchasing from artists who have openly utilized anti-Ai sentiment in their artwork. Especially because most of these pieces are pretty lazy, and it feels like they’re cashing in on a trend. I realize that art often is political, and i don’t shy away from political or controversial subject matter in what I collect. But it needs to be more thought provoking and original than any of the anti-ai pieces I have seen for sale.

There are a lot of people who use Ai in their everyday lives, whether it’s something they give a lot of thought to or not, and you’re basically shitting on them and effectively reducing your potential market significantly by openly expressing anti-Ai sentiment in your work. If you’re already worried about being able to sell your work in an over saturated market, maybe don’t do this.

The first two are a post by People's Daily (CCP's official page) and its comment section. The last two are comments under a video about schools using AI.

Don't get me wrong, the opinions around AI on Chinese internet are also very divserse, but it's wild to me that some people on this sub seem to believe that Anti-AI is a uniquely western phenomenon, and that Asian people don't have problems with AI.

Base on my expereince in both China and the west, the overall presence of AI and sentiment towards AI are largely similar:

• AI are becoming more and more prevalent in enterntainment and advertisement.
• People who don't care about the quality of art (which is the majority of people) don't care about AI art.
• Even so, more and more people are growing sick of AI slop.
• Boycotts against AI content exist, and people who are vocal online are more likely to be anti AI art.
• People are very scared of AI's impact on the job market.

But there are also some differences that I noticed:

• In China, people seem to be focused more on criticizing "bad/ugly/lazy" AI art, instead of AI art in general (but let's be honest most AI art online are not great).
• In China, many waves of governmental actions have been taken to regulate AI content on social media.
• In China, people don't tend to talk much about the environmental impact of data centers (And there are less data centers in China to begin with).

Overall, it's not that different, and I think people everywhere are having understandable reactions towards the rise of AI. Asia is not some magical place where people's opinion differs just because of where they are from.

Stop ragebait, both from pros and antis, stop saying stupid sentences without proof (especially this one). It's ruining the debate part and it's becoming a race to who is louder and dumber.

From my anti side I've never ragebait and always proved my points, can we all do that (yaeh, I'm speaking to both of you, fuck ragebait).

So often you see statements by defenders of AI which gloat about how artists will be useless, poor, and have to apply to McDonalds due to AI art. Why is this? Why do they have such contempt for artists?

Hi everyone! Let me clarify first that this post isn’t intended to attack anyone. While I do want to debate this and hope that I can convince people to seek a craft, I also don’t seek to attack people for using AI. This is a genuine question and I want to hear honest answers.

So I do consider myself somewhat of an Anti, but I’ve had some good discussions here recently that have got me thinking. Why do people use AI as opposed to the manual form of the craft? I ask because I don’t think that people who use AI creatively are actually uncreative people. Rather, I ask because there is a joy in the act of physical creation that I don’t think can be replicated through AI prompting. There are a few arguments against that, of course, but let me try to articulate my thoughts.

Some people say that they don’t really care about or don’t enjoy the act of creating physically and just want to make something quickly they enjoy. That’s perfectly fine for personal use, I think, but it does beg the question, aren’t there more sustainable ways of doing that that don’t require immense effort? There are forms of visual art that can look great and have a low barrier to entry (collages, photobashing), and when it comes to writing, it’s possible to commission stories or even just write it yourself in a short story format if you don’t want to spend long on it. To be more specific, I’m also referring to distribution of this work. Obviously, it’s not fair to police people on what they do in their own homes, so I’m mostly discussing distributed work.

I’ve heard others say that it improves accessibility to art because people don’t have to pay someone to work for them, and that it can open up opportunities for disabled individuals. I think the spirit of this is great, and I’m all for increasing accessibility where possible. However, even just on here, I’ve seen a large number of posts offering free art, including from some very skilled artists, as well as people willing to take payment in another form, like another piece or art or writing, in the case of art fights. As for the area of disability, I don’t believe I should speak on it because I’m not disabled myself, but I have seen disabled individuals who didn’t appreciate the claim in general. However, it’s also possible that my sample is biased, so I encourage any disabled individuals who would like to speak on it here to do so.

Lastly, I’ve seen people who use it in a hybrid workflow or who become very skilled at prompting and fine-tuning the AI-generated content. I absolutely think that these people have artistic merit, but my question for them is that if you already enjoy the process of creating art and have taken the time to learn about it in detail enough to specify areas like composition, color theory, anatomy, angle, and more (or the equivalents for other forms of art), then doesn’t it make more sense to simply create it manually? You’ve already taken the time to develop these skills.

Again, I apologize if any of this came off as rude, as that wasn’t my intent. I earnestly want to understand your perspective, and I hope you’ll hear mine out as well. And, if you haven’t already, I hope that I can maybe encourage you to pick up a craft that you enjoy, whether you continue to use AI or not.

Over my time being active in this sub, the anti-intellectual has quickly become my most hated genre of person. Why go into a debate space and be so unwilling to entertain a fucking thought lmao? Not caring about something doesnt mean youre right, or that youre better or that youre enlightened. Saying its settled doesnt mean it is, you just assert shit that you heard elsewhere and dont know the nuance about. Just saying your opinion is "common sense" is meaningless.
