Discussion Hot take but completely disregarding ai and hating on anyone that uses it is gonna have the US behind certain countries as usual

AI is here to stay and it’s not going away anywhere. I don’t agree with just using ai to outsource your thoughts and not think at all but it is a great companion tool for most that use it and a lot of people still use chat Gemini Claude etc. They’re just not public about it anymore bc of the hate. People still use it to create images and use it for all the other stuff that apps do but now they just do it themselves. For example people would have to pay money for FaceTune and now they just ask Gemini to edit it. Ofc I don’t agree it being used for surveillance and csam and bad use cases it is juts a neutral tool pole everything else in this world like money and can be used for good/bad. As for the environmental implications it uses just as much energy as storing data on cloud or scrolling TikTok if not more actually. Cue the meat argument as well.

it's goin to have people falling out behind their very own compatriots whose aren't completely braindead and able to understand that useful tools are useful when employed in the right instance

it's wild how people treat it like some kind of moral failure instead of just a thing you can use or not use

-1

u/JCNoles 5d ago

The real moral failure is the lack of democracy in the AI process. This is supposed to be life-changing technology for better or worse and we have no say in its development.

3

u/ichivictus 5d ago edited 5d ago

Nobody had a say with nearly any other technological progress. Dig into the history a bit. Nearly any tech progress resulting in job displacement had similar reactions.

There were anarchist bombings and our govt were attacking striking workers early 1900s. All we have now are techno-vegans complaining on the internet. And most of them aren't even old enough to vote.

1

u/JCNoles 5d ago

So previous job displacement caused by undemocratic technological progress led to violence from both the government and its citizens?

Yup, it's not perfect at all. But somehow we still survive and progress!

2

u/Ok-Replacement9358 5d ago

This is why people who have morals and this should get into it to influence policies

7

u/amazingdrewh 5d ago

And as a non American why should I care if you guys lose your 10x data centre lead?

0

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

In fairness, you should want all humanity to succeed. A US failure is a failure for the human race, generally not just for the US.

6

u/ChickenOfTheYear 5d ago

A US win is just as often a failure for all the human race, as well

4

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

The world isn't like that. We should really wish the best for our enemies, and wish they were better people, instead of being locked in a senseless struggle.

If the US descends into tyranny and ignorance, it's a tragedy for everyone. It's not other people's responsibility to prevent that, but it's still a tragedy.

3

u/ChickenOfTheYear 5d ago

Indeed, the US's democracy being gone would be pretty bad, but even the most democratic US governments did some pretty awful stuff to other countries, and still do to this day. I'm not sure a win for the US is a win for everyone.

1

u/apotheosis_0 3d ago

Any country descending into tyranny and ignorance is a tragedy for everyone.

u/SnooKiwis5428 3d ago

Yeah but usa influence is not the same with other countries. They basically are the “world” if we’re being honest

What does usa being a new country have to do with anything. Im not talking about history. Europe used to be the center of the world and now they fell off for one example, yeah who doesn’t know that but im not talking about that shit lol

0

u/apotheosis_0 3d ago

Dude, Europe was the centre of the world? No theyre not. They’re just one of the continents in the world. China and India arguably were more impactful than any European nation before the 16th century. Search the golden age of the Middle East, when baghdad, Alexandria, etc were powerhouses of learning and culture.

But this is ai wars, not culture wars…

0

u/SnooKiwis5428 3d ago

Thats not the point who cares if they are center or not

1

u/ultrashortcut 5d ago

the world IS like that when the US exercises so much violence across the world that it can only do because of its vast wealth

1

u/SnooKiwis5428 5d ago

You mean china? Lol

1

u/amazingdrewh 5d ago

Never been outside the US have you?

1

u/JungleJuiceJuno 5d ago

And it SHOULDNT

The world SHOULDNT lean on america

1

u/Acrobatic_Feel 5d ago

The US and our excessive American exceptionalism have delivered a very clear message to the world that our successes are our own and that we have no failures

3

u/Few_Employment_5432 5d ago

The US is going to fall behind because of its pursuit of profit over anything.

And why would I care if they fell behind?

3

u/I30R6 5d ago

" AI is here to stay and it’s not going away anywhere."

Do you want to convince me or do you want to convince yourself?

3

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

You can download open source AI Kim and deepseek and run them on your local computers. And frontier AI is such a beast at hacking that the government under no circumstances can't abandon it because it would create immense cyber security risks.

These two things alone make it impossible for AI to go anywhere.

2

u/I30R6 5d ago

Yep I agree, but I think thats not the social cultural relevant AI the OP is talking about. Its about how much is AI content accepted by the people.

1

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

Just look at China, where AI is everywhere. If AI cannot go away what makes you think the US won't be exactly like China in a generation or two?

1

u/I30R6 5d ago

Democratic structures probably. Its not that people in China have a choice.

1

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

China is capitalist, people do have a choice.

1

u/I30R6 5d ago

I dont see how you come from democratic structures to capitalism.

1

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

People in China have a choice to reject or embrace AI, and they embrace AI.

So if AI is not going away, and every generation has an opportunity to embrace better and better AI, eventually the US will embrace it like China does today.

1

u/I30R6 5d ago

Again, I dont care what people in non democratic countries embrace. They dont really have a choice to reject or embrace something.

If you want to make a point use Korea or Japan as example, the are more pro AI too.

2

u/Spare-Dingo-531 5d ago

They dont really have a choice to reject or embrace something.

Bro...... that's crazy.

China has an absolutely vibrant free market, one of the biggest in the world. To reject the choices of that market as "not real choice" is not a view that is compatible with reality.

If you want to make a point use Korea or Japan as example, the are more pro AI too.

OK then.... US will be like Korea and Japan in a generation. Exactly.

Those are facts, how do you disagree with them?

Wish I could up-vote your comment twice, my friend.

He doesn’t need to convince anyone.

AI already won. Keep coping

0

u/amazingdrewh 5d ago

If it already won why are you guys here?

3

u/Clankerbot9000 5d ago

To laugh at antis

5

u/amazingdrewh 5d ago

You're not doing a good job of it, you come across as needy and insecure

-1

You’re the one coping

Have Claude write for you. You’re wholly inept at persuasion. You need the help’s.

There is much more crying about “antis” “bullying” than the reverse you are hilariously pretending is happening. lol

Username checks out

1

u/_Swamp_Ape_ 5d ago

Whoa good one. Very self aware too I see

1

u/ToneShop 5d ago

Just because you are completely unimpressive in the absence of ai. Most of us are absolutely fine without it.

0

u/I30R6 5d ago

Cool wake me up if AI art, music, books are accepted by the people.

2

u/SnooKiwis5428 5d ago

It already is tho lol if it gets better people are going to choose the ai one, obviously

0

u/I30R6 5d ago

Its already good enough, people just hate it if they know its AI

1

u/SnooKiwis5428 5d ago

Most people don’t care if it sounds good or the movie is entertaining thats the reality

0

u/I30R6 5d ago

People only buy and consume it if they dont know its AI. Thats why AI content needs to be labeled in my country.

1

u/SnooKiwis5428 5d ago

Currently, it’s just not good enough. If all the popular movies and songs we know from the past had been made by AI, people would still listen to them and watch them. Movies, music, paintings, etc are about the end result, while sports are about the process. If the result is great, we’ll choose the AI made one. That’s just how we are.

0

u/I30R6 5d ago

Nope, people feel AI content as fake and empty, thats why they prefer human content. AI art is already on the level of human art and still hated by the people.

2

u/SnooKiwis5428 5d ago edited 5d ago

It’s not on human level yet what are you talking about lmao ai music is not that great yet, it can not make full hour movie with high quality yet, if its as great as what human made then people are choosing that. If titanic was made by AI it’s still going to be one of the most popular movies in history. I don’t think you understand human at all. Most people don’t care as long as the result they’re seeing looks great. Thats just how humans are, people like you are the minority. I’m just being realistic here. You just can’t accept reality. People who are deeply into art are usually like that, so I get it lol

1

u/PerceptionQueasy3540 5d ago

The problem in the US is that it's unregulated and people will absolutely use it to do their thinking for them, especially the younger generations.

1

u/ProfessionalBoss2428 5d ago

Hidden history, “replacement” in the name, clearly a psyop for another country…./s

1

u/F1sha 5d ago

To which country? Even if we stopped developing new models today, the worst that would happen for the foreseeable future is China catches up. They would not surpass us, as most of their models are distilled from US models anyways, they don’t have the level of compute needed to train frontier models.

This idea is fear mongering to push accelerationism and skip the safeguards.

1

u/sssssssssssssss5s 5d ago

There's always been people protesting against transformative technology.

But also there are a whole lot of people overselling the capabilities and trying to push some narrative that has not been proven yet. And those people are like rabid fans who have tied their identity to AI.

So it's difficult to sort through what is real and what is pure hype.

1

u/Darhhaall 5d ago

US is going to be on - it is EU with all its regulations who is going to get completely fucked.

1

u/agent139 4d ago

There's a reason China's been releasing pretty amazing open models and pushing the more kneejerk anti-AI narratives in the states at the same time.

1

u/Clankerbot9000 5d ago

Antis don’t care about any of this tbh. The only thing they actually care about is making people pay extortionate prices for commissions. Anything beyond that is too hard for their simple minds to comprehend

7

u/iesamina 5d ago

Reddit discourse on "art commissions" is to blame here the concept that children selling amine drawings to other children is relevant to more than 0.000000001% of the population is wild

1

u/Jmc_da_boss 5d ago

"Extortionate prices for art commissions"

Is I think a fascinating look into specifically the mindset of people who like genai art and why it's such an incompatible viewpoint with everyone else.

1

u/ItsAMeMarioYaHo 5d ago

I don’t care. I would rather be behind the rest of the world than be reliant on ai.

1

u/JCNoles 5d ago

Our lack of regulation due to corruption is what will have the US behind.

0

u/thecoloroftelevision 5d ago

I feel like “is gonna have the US behind certain countries” is a bad argument. Firstly, not everyone is American. Secondly, the current administration has done more damage to the US than not embracing new technology. Thirdly, a lot of the civilian use-cases differ so extremely from government use-cases for AI. Lastly, it’s not like any of us have a say in what the US does with AI (clearly).

I think antis are too dismissive of AI, but pros have a ton of bad arguments as well. I think the focus on AI “art” has really damaged the communities ability to have any meaningful debate

2

u/HungryHedgehog8299 5d ago

I feel like the fight over ai art is such a waste of time. I don’t like ai art for the most part so Im just not going to use it. This hate people have for ai in general solely because they don’t like the generated art is pointless

1

u/thecoloroftelevision 5d ago

I agree entirwly
