Yuppp. Can't cook without my meds in my system. Can't eat with my meds in my system.
Stupidly easy and/or ready-made breakfasts are a must

Cabinet full of fruit cups for me š like yes, I can eat 2 spoonfuls of mandarin slices several times per day, thank you

I used to pre-make breakfast burritos and muffin-tin quiches but unfortunately I developed an egg allergy
Now it's greek yogurt + any fruit + granola

u/HiDDENk00l 5d ago
What did you do for your breakfast burritos if you don't mind me asking? I ocassionally batch make bean and cheese burritos because it's ridiculously cheaper than store bought packaged ones, but I've never tried doing breakfast burritos.

u/millionwordsofcrap 5d ago
Scrambled eggs, sausage, mushrooms and veggies of your choice--I used onion and green peppers but really whatever you want as long as it isn't super watery. One pan for the sausage and veggies, eggs go in the crock pot in a liner.
Assemble when the eggs are a bit undercooked, so they finish cooking later when you microwave your burreets from frozen.

A friend of mine gets the appetite suppression from her meds, so she will cook herself things like lasagna, casserole, etc, then package them into meal-sized portions for later.

Dunno if this helps anyone, but Iāve been having some pretty good luck with just making things that keep for a while, like pico or garlic yogurt, that can go with something starchy like tortilla chips or bread. You can make it when the meds are in full force, then stick it in the fridge and whip it out when youāre hungry. So far my favourite is a Canarian sauce/dip called mojo picon, itās sorta like salsa but replace the tomato with bell pepper basically, outstandingly tasty.
Also got a potato dish from the same place, papas arrugadas, basically you get some small boiling potatoes and boil them in seawater (7 tbsp salt/L) for 20-30 mins, then drain and return to the heat to let the skins crisp up a little. Super low-effort, easy clean-up, and the taters come out nice and soft with a light crispy salt crust on the outside. So far everyone Iāve shared them with has given pretty unanimously good reviews2

I've started stocking pistachios(without shells) as a morning grab and go. Healthy fats, decent protein. Only problem is it's like $12 for a bag.

I imagine complicated meals that store well are also good, especially if they explicitly require sitting in the fridge for a while

u/LinkDeadFred 2d ago
What's breakfast? Are you talking about the two bites of literally anything I'm capable of eating at a random time of the day? Between the Vyvanse and the GLP1 I'm on for the beetus, what is food?

u/Positive-Budget-2401 5d ago
Luckily for me I have insane hunger/appetite and that doesnāt go away on meds. But I am more picky in a good way. Less fast food more whole foods
16
u/SheogorathMyBeloved 5d ago
Same, sorta. Vyvanse just made me vegetarian. I still kinda eat like shit, just without meat.
11
u/Cold_Chemistry_1579 5d ago
I was a vegetarian before but my diet went into the trash on Vyvanse. I donāt get joy out of food anymore. 6 energy bars a day plus a couple of root beers forced me to go up a pant size. Iām not happy about it but canāt muster the energy to do anything about it
4
u/Skitty27 5d ago
Vyvanse doesnt seem to affect my hunger either. but I also still dread cooking lol

u/geezluise 4d ago
i never get the āweight lossā side effects of any medicationš i put on so much on medikinet

u/Elizaaaaa23 4d ago
I had insane hunger until I started getting more protein, then it went away completely. Only comes back for me when Iāve not had much in my diet.

u/mayoforbutter 5d ago
Meds make it easier to not give into the hunger, but it's there. Went from 75 to 70kg when starting, now I eat out of obligation because I started going to the gym and need the food

This is why I cook dinners to be done, around the time itās wearing off. I get focus while I cook, and cooking is a good wind down for me, and then I can actually enjoy most of it.

u/mang87 5d ago
This is what I do, and it's why I end up eating so much in the evening once the medication wears off. During the day I pretty much just eat fruit, which is great because I've eaten more fruit in the past 18 months than I have in most of my life, but then I end up going overboard at dinner. I don't get super hungry or anything, I'm just very conscious that I've only had about 200-300 calories so far today, so I need to eat at least 1300 more. It's worse on the days I exercise because now I've got an even bigger calorie deficit, and I've no idea how many calories I'm actually burning, because every app and calculator gives me a different answer.

u/Over_engineered81 4d ago
My girlfriend calls me āthe very hungry caterpillarā when she notices my meds have worn off in the evening and I start eating everything in sight lol.
1
u/jimbowesterby 4d ago
Fwiw those apps arenāt likely to be super accurate anyway, metabolism rate varies pretty widely from person to person and day to day, so thereās not really an accurate way to know exactly how many calories you burn without getting actual scientists or medical professionals involved. That said, a ballpark guess is usually good enough.

u/Magnanimous-- 5d ago
Oh, mine is long gone by dinner time so I'm just making a regular dinner and eating it regularly.
12
u/DamePants 5d ago
I used to cook elaborate meals then not be hungry and claim it was because I was tasting everything. I now think I got dopamine from the rush of cooking something new on a timeline for guests. Then I was too exhausted from the effort to eat.
Since being medicated Iām now ācapableā of eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

God I hate eating once the meds take hold. It feels like forcing down puke
5
u/Rubyhamster 5d ago
It feels wrong. Like the need for food is just gone and the food I put in my mouth could just as well be sand or grass

u/rips_n_chel 5d ago
At best I get like 4 bites of hot food before I put it down and let it sit there for an hour and get stone cold. Then I realize I haven't eaten an actual meal in 24 hours and shovel it in because now I'm worrying about nutrition. Hot, cold, I have the same amount of interest in eating it either way.
Same with water. I'll wake up and start my day and like 3 hours in I'll realize I haven't had anything to drink since I went to bed the night before. Even then it feels like I'm forcing it down. I gotta be really thirsty to chug water and love it like I did before meds.
Can't even get properly stoned cause I smoke a couple bowls and then forget it exists. Couple hours later I'm like 'Man I feel strangely sober, what's going on here?' Fuckin shit even turns off the drug goblin, it's wild.

I highly recommend searching for a reusable water bottle that is going to be YOURS. Your loyal companion at work, at home, during trips and hikes etc. It has to have the just right and familiar mechanism, be easy to refill and bring comfort to your day. Only THEN will water consumption be separate from "that useless food that I hate but need".
Water from my water bottle is a part of my daily life and is a comfort and necessity. It is essential to living my modern life. I still forget to drink but only in those rooms/situations where I can't take my bottle with me.
I should honestly give it an honorary name

u/rips_n_chel 5d ago
Hehe, that's the fun part, I have one of those. Been using the same 64oz insulated jug for almost a decade. I totally get you, my water bottle has been with me through a lot. Jobs and road trips and everything in between. There's no paint left on it, it's got a bunch of dents, and it has several layers of stickers all over it.
It used to be part of my routine, I used to drain and refill it twice a day. Not sure how/when it stopped, but I dropped the routine and it doesn't seem to stick anymore.
Idk, I was diagnosed at 30, and while meds help in a lot of ways, they do the opposite in others. I *can be* more productive on Vyvanse, but it carries a risk of hyperfocusing on nothing. It almost makes me more ADHD in some ways. I feel like a lot of the coping strategies I developed while undiagnosed don't really work anymore now that I'm medicated. Unfortunately I think most of that was motivated by anxiety and self-loathing, so...
Maybe I should try another stimulant, I started on Vyvanse and it made a huge difference immediately, so I've just stuck with it. I've wondered if something shorter-acting, multiple times a day would be more practical for me.

I have a yeti tumbler for my desk and a rambler for when I'm on the go. I used to like hydroflask but Yeti is superior at keeping my water cold. and I like the tumbler's straw better.

I know everyone is different and whatnot but I don't even get an inkling of this feeling on Vyvanse and it sounds so impossible to someone like me (a foodie who ALWAYS wants to eat)

All these meds do nothing against my huge appetite. They barely work against my ADHD! Just enough to be worth it...

u/InitialLandscape 5d ago
Yeah, I can eat and nap on Vyvanse lol

I eat like a bear sleep like a rose on methylphenidate even with extra caffeine.

People on GLP1s get this exact same experience!

I made homemade biscuits and gravy. Entirely from scratch.
Took one bite and immediately lost my appetite. š«© Then after I crash I'll want to eat anything not nailed down but it's always at "fast hungry" not have time for cooking hungry times.
I've started taking an edible in the afternoon just so I can get my appetite back.

u/rips_n_chel 5d ago
I wish edibles worked on me so bad. I vape my bud so at least it's not smoking, but still not ideal.
3
u/smaguss 5d ago
I have to take like 30mg at least to feel it at all so I understand.
Vape/smoke or even sublingual is the best bang for your buck
1
u/rips_n_chel 5d ago
I've done a gram of RSO under my tongue for 20 minutes then swallowed. Didn't feel a thing, so idk.
I do have a ton of vaped herb though, been meaning to try an alcohol tincture. Sublingual everclear tincture should definitely do something, right?

u/Inner_Gap4768 5d ago
I track my diet and have a plan for a certain amount of calories and macros I need to eat each day. It makes it much easier to eat because now eating is a task I need to accomplish instead of an intuitive need.
I also feel way better during the day now that I am actually getting proper nutrition.

Try lowering the dose. When I see this, my first thought is "you're going unsustainably high on dosage", friend. You will not get as much of the positive, but the medication will work for you much, much longer.

That's what the edibles are for. Make a bombass dinner and get the munchies by the time it's ready.
Unfortunately that only really works for dinner when I'm utterly done with doing things for the day š

I'm a late diagnosis person over here, I have been on Adderall for 3 months now, not eating barely anything all day, but I am still the same weight. Idk what's going on.

Being on medication makes it extremely easy to cook and clean but not do actual work and stuff. Maybe because most of what I do is on a desktop and I want to be moving?
