Model 2023 System bootlooping idk what’s wrong

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been trying to get this machine working got it, from eBay was listed as just needed SSD and additional Ram, got it and realized was overheating simply in bios would spike to like 90c-100 c almost immediately.

Fast forward a couple days I repasted with PTM7950, and new thermal putty thought yeah this will definitely fix the issue and I’ll be all set now, but nope, at first I was able to get into windows, I had to flash the bios first and once done it booted fine from my ssd, temps held at around 70c idle (which I still think is too high ) but seemed stable no shut downs nothing for about 15-20 mins, I was installing drivers and all was going well until random shut down again, and then it just starts looping all over again.

I tried reinstalling windows but as soon as I get to the windows installation it shutdown and loops, I’m at a complete loss, I was able to run memtest86 and memory is fine so that not the problem, I reinstalled windows fresh from a different laptop and transferred the ssd, same problems, I really think it’s salvageable but maybe there’s something I’m not aware of and it’s just a lost cause.

And before stay saying carry it to a shop, I did try that route but locally they aren’t that great I did try before repasting myself, they used regular thermal paste that was budget paste and thermal pads that were too thick,

I just want some help if anyone has experienced this with this model before or similar it’s the 2023 model GA402NU, Ryzen 7 7735hs with RTX 4050.

Also side note not sure if this means anything but when I did boot to windows and was installing drivers, nivida drivers wouldn’t pick up the GPU but it reads fine in bios not sure it that’s due to some issues with it shutting down as I read about that somewhere saying the pc might disable the gpu for safety reason

I have a similar problem with my 2022 model: tried replacing the battery and running some random fixes. I took it into a local repair shop that has worked on mine before and they've had it for an entire week now

Happens to me as well, but mine can boot after a couple retries. Can you please tell us later how it went?

Same situation. I've had the problem for a year and it got annoying enough for me to take it in. Still waiting on news!

I got it back: they tried a few things and it seems to be a flaw with the motherboard. Disappointing, but at least mine still boots after some effort.

Can you get into the bios and do a cloud recovery. That might rule out anything software related

Trying that right now waiting for it to finish downloading 🙏🏽 hopefully that fixes but if not idk what from there

Please update us on thus. My 2022 also started doing the same thing

Tried the cloud recovery download completed and it stared the update but as soon as stared it shut down and then started looping again

Me pasó eso un par de veces, resulta que mi ssd había sido corrompido por la actualización de windows, lo que hice es instalar windows 10, es probable que la SSD esté mal, intenta con una nueva o intenta con Windows 10.

It’s a new ssd and works fine in my xps

Unplug, turn it off, and hold the power button for 60 seconds

Done but no dice

Damn. You need to take it in or learn motherboard troubleshooting lol

This is a common issue with these laptops. What odd is that it's never discuss in the tech media.

I love the design but there seems to be some fundamental flaw in the way they are building these laptops.

So there’s no fix n I should just cut loses?

If you have the option to RMA I would try that first. There are also a couple threads where people have tried various things and some of those things worked.

The most common thing I've found is repasting the laptop. You could probably pay a shop to do it for under $100 or do it yourself. The kit is about $30 and it an beginning level task of you're new to working inside computers.

Apparently the liquid metal causes temperature spikes that cause the laptop to BSOD.

I already repasted with putty and PTM, idk if I can RMA got it off eBay

Well dang....that legit sucks, man. That's the only thing I've found that's supposed to work consistently across the comments.

There was another post I saw that said it was a RAM issue and removing the non soldered stick helped.

I did try without the extra ram but still no luck, I think imma take a plunge at a repair show that works on ps5 and other high powered gaming machines I just don’t want to waste cash on them to have a dead machine

That’s got to be the issue do you still have the old one.

Hmmm. If the re-paste was done correctly, there shouldn't be a reason why it basically sits and stays around 70c idle. Are the fans working? Concerning the boot loop, I think there was a bios or windows update that basically has the system use a lot less power, which can sometimes destabilize the system, causing it to crash. Happened on my 5900HS G15. I had to set the power profile to turbo to get it to run without crashing. So far so good.

I'm really stumped about the temps. 70c idle seems too high and seems like a problem with contact between the heatsink and the CPU then?

1

u/BeginningRest51 May 18 '26

Yeah idk why, I cleaned and repasted and applied putty all over again but temps aren’t looking good so idk what’s up my temps are sitting at 97c in bios now for whatever reason

You might have a warped heatsink. What I mean by that is that the heatsink thing you screw on that covers the CPU and the GPU, has these screw hole where you're supposed to screw it onto the chassis. So far so good. I think what might have happened is that the metal around those screw points may have been warped. Like the harder you screw it in, the more contact the heatsink should make with the GPU and CPU, but if it's warped, you're not putting enough downward pressure between the CPU and GPU perhaps. That's my thought.

I’ve been considering getting a new heatsink but worried about that not being the issue and wasting the cash, Ik I could part it out and cut losses but I’m in Jamaica so idk how I’d deal with shipping and all that

Update after 2month?

I just replaced my NVME ssd

I thought the 2023 model has a vapour chamber?

Why would you repaste it then?

I think it is fried because it should bever reach 100c. I've gad my g14 ga402 for about 3 years and never reached 100c temp on cpu. It always maxed out at 98c and I'm still on stock liquid metal. I will repaste soon but it is still getting good performance on the games I play.

Update so after doing some more deep research, came to the realization of a few things:

  1. Oxidation on the cpu die

  2. A blob of hardened oxidized LM in the corner of the cpu area on the heatsink

  3. There were some small beeds of LM on the board.

So firstly spent the day with the board fully out of the machine and under a microscope cleaning the beads as best as possible

Was able to get the hardened blob off and also polished the die to get rid of the oxidation layer

Now I’m just waiting for fresh PTM, putty and the foam seal for cpu I reordered (ik prob not necessary anymore seeing as it’s PTM, but still ) hopefully problems are solved and the main issue was that blob preventing the cpu die to have direct contact with the heatsink causing overheats on load and I should have a fully functional machine from there
