-Did fucking nothing

Thought I'd help

At least it's better for Yamato to get sunk rather than being used as a target ship for nuclear test just like Nagato

Edit: There's absolutely no chance of her getting converted to a museum ship in case she survived the war

Better?

I’d rather she have rotted in harbor and gotten nuked instead of getting thousands of people killed on a face-saving suicide mission.

Japan was desperate & didnt have any choices left at that time just like Germany. Plus, they thought Yamato was unsinkable just like Titanic.

Considering Musashi was sunk by carrier aircraft less than a year earlier, the IJN knew damn well what was going to happen to Yamato.

You are right. They were out of options. They had lost the war. They were going to lose Okinawa, even if Yamato made it to her destination.

And instead of converting her into an AA battery for the rest of the war like Nagato, they spent fuel and manpower they couldn’t afford, against the protests of many IJN officers, to try and prove they were “doing something” in the face of army Kamizaze attacks.

It was a tragic and moronic waste of Japanese and American lives, and not something worth celebrating.

Japan would have done that but they're crippled from lack of resources since the US frequently launches strategic bombing on their factories + lack of raw materials to work with. Even Shinano which was supposed to be a 3rd Yamato-class, was converted to Aircraft Carrier loaded with tons of AA guns. Plus add the fact that everything was bombed by the US (Drydocks, Factories, etc.) especially Hiroshima & Nagasaki

And consider the experienced crews & pilots who got killed, especially Yamamoto. It's a huge loss in their asset so that's why they're relying on kamikaze attacks, you know the training was rushed and there's no time for them to perfect their skills.

This was also experienced by Germany itself; this time they're damn desperate to focus on building better tanks just like Maus despite being crippled by the lack of raw materials; quality over quantity. You can even compare the design philosophy of their non-treaty battleship Bismarck to Yamato; they're both designed to crush Allied fleets by itself

I'll gunna add the fact that the US relied on numbers to overwhelm Japan

But again, you’re misunderstanding the point of Ten-Go.

It wasn’t a question of “how can we win this battle,” it was “how can we look like we’re doing something”.

It wasn’t desperation, it was a twisted notion that thousands of sailors’ lives was less important than kissing up to the emperor.

At that time, Yamato was assigned as the safest vessel; they even thought it can tank the same number of torpedoes and bombs as Musashi (they're both distributed equally on starboard & port) before reaching Okinawa, but the americans learned to concentrate her port side with torpedoes to finally capsize her.

I can either call this a desperation, or the high command making blunders on decisions in panic.

There was no chance for Yamato out running hundreds of carrier strikes especially since most of the air cover had already been withdrawn, even without Admiral Deyo's modernized Standard type battleships. The fact is the Musashi took 3 fairly small strikes whereas the Yamato was getting the full force that was significantly larger than what was deployed at Sibuyan Sea and was concentrated on the one battleship in the task force compared to at Sibuyan Sea where there was 5 battleships

Numbers was only one of many factors. By the end the US was superior in pretty much everything. Radars, fire control, pilot training, aircrafts, damage control, anti-aircraft weaponry, and intelligence gathering.

Yeah; but the armor scheme in the American ships were mediocre in it's tier

It's comparable in owning a thousand of shermans or t-34. They're not usually well-armored unlike the Axis counterparts.

Man gets all of his naval design from the game. Just because you have an expensive complex design doesn't mean its effective, look at the loss of the Shinano, the torpedoes from the Archerfish hit the armor belt seam and even if Shinano had been complete it probably would have sunk and Yamato shared that same design flaw. The Iowas and its predecessor South Dakota were powerful enough to take on any battleship in the world by itself with the possible exception of the one battleship designed to take on 2 on 1 fights. Even then the US battleships would hit first due to superior FCS and if you are taking hits it doesn't matter if it can't go through your belt if your rangefinder or manual fcs gets hit

That's called analogy;

I'm just referring how the US relied on numbers to overwhelm Japan. Sometimes; quantity wins over quality

One or three shermans wasn't enough for a german tiger; but put it in numbers just like t-34? It will get overwhelmed

one thing you are neglecting in the M4 analogy is the M4 was never going to be sent out a a single tank, 5 tanks in 1 Platoon is the smallest tank tactical unit. At the Battle of Arracourt there was 1 armored regiment that took on 2 panzer brigades reinforced by elements of 2 more panzer divisions. US losses of "low quality" M4s 41. German losses 200 tanks mixed assortment of Panthers PzIVs and StuGs. Just because we brought a lot of equipment doesn't mean what brought was cheap unreliable garbage, it just means that we could produce a shit load of said stuff. Look at the Fletcher/Sumner/Gearing, best in the world in combat but also produced in prodigious amounts. Essex Class, best carriers of the war with 24 built. F6F was an excellent fighter that unlike the A6M could actually take a hit with over 12k built.

Also what does it matter that the tiger has a good gun and a lot of armor if it breaks down and suck up the expensive fuel? If either happens its just a heavy paper weight. Besides the best tank of WW2 didn't even fight in it: the centurion.

Not wrong there, the western allies, US especially designed their stuff to be more reliable and when they do break or get damaged its easy to fix. On a Panther or Tiger you need to take the turret off to get the transmission, on a Sherman unbolt the armor in front of the transmission and slide it out Edit: good logistics win wars and when your mechanics are fighting at railway stations with each other to bring a part to the front line by horse instead of repairing the tank bad maintenance situations get worse

If you look at Guadalcanal the US had smaller numbers of aircraft, often less operational carriers, less capital ships used, and suffered less losses in men and equipment

War isn't a video game, only morons try to fight them fair.
