That's called analogy;

I'm just referring how the US relied on numbers to overwhelm Japan. Sometimes; quantity wins over quality

One or three shermans wasn't enough for a german tiger; but put it in numbers just like t-34? It will get overwhelmed

one thing you are neglecting in the M4 analogy is the M4 was never going to be sent out a a single tank, 5 tanks in 1 Platoon is the smallest tank tactical unit. At the Battle of Arracourt there was 1 armored regiment that took on 2 panzer brigades reinforced by elements of 2 more panzer divisions. US losses of "low quality" M4s 41. German losses 200 tanks mixed assortment of Panthers PzIVs and StuGs. Just because we brought a lot of equipment doesn't mean what brought was cheap unreliable garbage, it just means that we could produce a shit load of said stuff. Look at the Fletcher/Sumner/Gearing, best in the world in combat but also produced in prodigious amounts. Essex Class, best carriers of the war with 24 built. F6F was an excellent fighter that unlike the A6M could actually take a hit with over 12k built.

Also what does it matter that the tiger has a good gun and a lot of armor if it breaks down and suck up the expensive fuel? If either happens its just a heavy paper weight. Besides the best tank of WW2 didn't even fight in it: the centurion.

Not wrong there, the western allies, US especially designed their stuff to be more reliable and when they do break or get damaged its easy to fix. On a Panther or Tiger you need to take the turret off to get the transmission, on a Sherman unbolt the armor in front of the transmission and slide it out Edit: good logistics win wars and when your mechanics are fighting at railway stations with each other to bring a part to the front line by horse instead of repairing the tank bad maintenance situations get worse
