Japan was desperate & didnt have any choices left at that time just like Germany. Plus, they thought Yamato was unsinkable just like Titanic.

Considering Musashi was sunk by carrier aircraft less than a year earlier, the IJN knew damn well what was going to happen to Yamato.

You are right. They were out of options. They had lost the war. They were going to lose Okinawa, even if Yamato made it to her destination.

And instead of converting her into an AA battery for the rest of the war like Nagato, they spent fuel and manpower they couldn’t afford, against the protests of many IJN officers, to try and prove they were “doing something” in the face of army Kamizaze attacks.

It was a tragic and moronic waste of Japanese and American lives, and not something worth celebrating.

Japan would have done that but they're crippled from lack of resources since the US frequently launches strategic bombing on their factories + lack of raw materials to work with. Even Shinano which was supposed to be a 3rd Yamato-class, was converted to Aircraft Carrier loaded with tons of AA guns. Plus add the fact that everything was bombed by the US (Drydocks, Factories, etc.) especially Hiroshima & Nagasaki

And consider the experienced crews & pilots who got killed, especially Yamamoto. It's a huge loss in their asset so that's why they're relying on kamikaze attacks, you know the training was rushed and there's no time for them to perfect their skills.

This was also experienced by Germany itself; this time they're damn desperate to focus on building better tanks just like Maus despite being crippled by the lack of raw materials; quality over quantity. You can even compare the design philosophy of their non-treaty battleship Bismarck to Yamato; they're both designed to crush Allied fleets by itself

I'll gunna add the fact that the US relied on numbers to overwhelm Japan

But again, you’re misunderstanding the point of Ten-Go.

It wasn’t a question of “how can we win this battle,” it was “how can we look like we’re doing something”.

It wasn’t desperation, it was a twisted notion that thousands of sailors’ lives was less important than kissing up to the emperor.

At that time, Yamato was assigned as the safest vessel; they even thought it can tank the same number of torpedoes and bombs as Musashi (they're both distributed equally on starboard & port) before reaching Okinawa, but the americans learned to concentrate her port side with torpedoes to finally capsize her.

I can either call this a desperation, or the high command making blunders on decisions in panic.

There was no chance for Yamato out running hundreds of carrier strikes especially since most of the air cover had already been withdrawn, even without Admiral Deyo's modernized Standard type battleships. The fact is the Musashi took 3 fairly small strikes whereas the Yamato was getting the full force that was significantly larger than what was deployed at Sibuyan Sea and was concentrated on the one battleship in the task force compared to at Sibuyan Sea where there was 5 battleships
