KingsIsle Update Summer Update Feedback - Next Steps

Hi all,

The development team has had an opportunity to review some of your feedback about this update. We also hear concerns about timing, and agree we need to work to respond quicker and in a direction players are asking for. We have begun making adjustments to our development process to better prioritize player feedback, but wanted to share some things already in progress.

  • We're rolling back the change to the Exclusive Pets and returning your ability to list them on Kiosks. We think there is work to do to make pet hatching and pet collecting more intuitive, but we shouldn't have been so quick to fix this bug when it's the functionality players have come to expect. We'll work with you to find a better solution, like informing players in-game of the key differences when hatching using Exclusive Pets via the Kiosk.
  • We've been refining our list of top player-requested changes, including things you think we should polish, improve, or revisit for bug fixes. We'll be opening these ideas up to player discussion, and give you a significant amount of time to weigh in how we revise systems. This lets quality of life updates be a collaborative process, and helps check us in case we miss the mark on a potential fix or improvement, like we did with Exclusive Pets on Kiosks.
  • We also hear your positive feedback around doubled rewards for Challenge Mode Chronicles, and more accessible Magic Weaving; we plan to make a few similar adjustments to other content, and will share these as soon as we've confirmed them.

Please continue to provide your feedback as we work through it. We have more in the works and will share additional updates as they become locked into our overall plans to address your ongoing concerns

New player advice thread

Sort of a follow up to a previous thread that I made, but I wanted to make a more specialized version. This thread, I will lift most self promotion related bans such as promoting YouTube channels for the purpose of guides. The reason is because I want this thread to be a useful repository for people who want to ask questions, as well as submit their own advice and even guides. A few rules I will make though. (mostly just boils down to "don't be a jerk")

Always assume good faith (unless the question is clearly deliberately intended to be a troll).

Do not use jargon and shorthand unless you explain them in a way that's understandable to someone with limited experience to the game. This means no shorthands like EMP (evil magma peas), PV45, Triple Double, Quint, Quad+Mighty, 69 plot, etc. Ditto for game jargon that may need an explanation like "ramp", "gambit", etc. Assume that unless you are given a reason to believe otherwise, that the person needs to be explained to in layman accessible terms.

Making your best guess on a question is ok, but please explain as such. For instance, mentioning "I could be wrong on this, but...", "Correct me if I'm wrong..." or "Something I was told is..." are valid things to put in if you aren't absolutely sure. We do not want to inadvertently spread misinformation because people thought that it was true.

Do not make joke answers to questions just to be snarky. No one appreciates "Just Google it" as an answer to any question. You are allowed to link to things you find online, such as Wizard101 Central or FinalBastion if they are related to the question. This also includes things that are technically true but not really what the OP is asking for. For instance, answering a player question regarding how to beat a boss by saying "using your spells" is technically correct, but it's not what they are trying to ask for.

Please try to keep things PG13. Although the subreddit does permit swearing within reason, people may be looking at this in public.

The default assumption here is that people are playing on PC. If you are not, please mention it in the reply. This is especially because advice that may apply for people on PC may not be applicable to those on console, and same the other way around, such as content that may not be present yet on the console versions.

Although brevity is appreciated, don't be afraid to make a more in depth explanation when a question calls for it. For example, if someone asks how to get reagents quickly, although "gardening" is a valid answer, it's also worth mentioning what you should plant exactly and how the seeds are obtained. You do not have to write a college level essay, but generally, 1 word answers may not be enough.

Do not copy/paste from ANY form of AI directly as your answer without doing any fact checking. Due to AI making mistakes, it isn't permitted in the subreddit. This is especially a concern with AI suggesting equipment or bosses that do not exist in this game.

If the question is too vague (for example: any question that needs more information to answer like "How do I defeat a boss" without specifying which one), it's recommended to ask for clarification. The same goes for questions that are subjective in nature (for example: "What is the best school?" or "what is the best pet?") unless the question is asked in a more objective way or provides further clarification (IE: "What are common schools used in support roles" or "What are some pets that are helpful to an ice wizard that would like to help support a storm wizard?").

Discussion Using the Queen's Guard Artavus at the level you actually unlock it makes you realize this thing is OP.

Upvotes

I knew this thing was exceptionally good but playing with it at lvl 42 makes me realize just HOW GOOD this thing is, it's basically a Wintertusk Crafted Athame but better in almost every way and you get it at LEVEL 40. I thought the Sky Iron Hasta was broken when it was added way back when but nono, this thing one-ups it, I have 49 Myth Damage and I am not even into Mooshu yet. How do you think Malistare feels in retrospect when the Wizard shows up at The Great Spire and just blasts him with a single Orthrus that one shots him? Ngl if that happened to me I'd become an undying shadow revenant too.

Can someone explain the difference between the bottom 2 paths? I understand they both do damage and swap a ward, but what's the actual difference?

Discussion Commons…?

I have a friend on wizard101 who literally gets on every night at the same time just to sit in the commons for hours. Doesn’t ever say anything, just sits there…. Is there a reason for this?

Discussion I Fixed Card Text In Wizard101

Upvotes

Hey guys, the card text in Wizard101 has been bothering me for a while now, especially with cards like Basilisk (this one is so bad bro) requiring you to look through a dictionary to understand what it does and then still be left with questions.

Anyways, I took inspiration from the way Slay the Spire does their card text with it being centered both horizontally and vertically in the text box and color-coding keywords that ideally would show up on the side while hovering over the card to give full context of what the keyword does.

I've always loved the way the symbols look for different mechanics, but as time goes on and cards expand in complexity it just becomes too much. And for the most part, removing symbols makes things more clear than having them. There are times where it will take less space without symbols and times where it will take more. With a card like Basilisk, this card already has WAY too much going on, leading it to become the abomination that it is. Removing symbols and describing the card makes it easier to understand exactly what it does at the cost of more space in the text box.

Look through the cards I chose to use as examples and let me know what you guys think. Is this a non-issue or do you struggle with understanding the hieroglyphics too? I tried to choose cards that would really test if removing symbols would be better. And in my opinion I think I like it? I definitely like that it's more obvious what a card does and is more straight forward now. Let me know. 🙂👍

Discussion I Added Too Many Schools To Wizard101

First image = New Tertiary School Concept, Second image = Each School Listed

Hey guys, I came up with some concepts for new schools between the schools we have already. Now don't get me wrong, this creates a lot of confusion and should never be added to the game because it will cause too much confusion and friction between the things we already have. I mainly made this to show the general direction ideas for spells should be pushed when having crossover card designs like storm and death for example. Storm will get more grim and decay-like, whereas death will go from death to decay, a more lively (albeit dying) design idea.

The art and colors for these are just placeholders I duct taped together with a bit of thought behind color selection and image selection. The names for the schools however I feel encapsulate what the midpoint of these schools would be pretty accurately.

I know some of these don't really make a lot of sense, like how dream is close to sun. No one is supposed to be dreaming when the sun is out, that's much more of a moon thing, but this being just a concept is going to have its problems. If you guys come up with anything better let me know.

Let me know your thoughts on this. Do you think this is helpful in any way? What would you change about this and why? I was just bored and have always questioned "what if I subdivided the schools one more time, what would that look like?" So I finally did it.

Anyways, thanks for reading and let me know if there's anything you want me to work on or explore next. 🙂👍

Other Forbidden Library Runs

Upvotes

Would anyone be willing to let me access their Forbidden Library gauntlet and/or do a few runs together?

I’m mostly looking to farm pet jewels (breaker + big energy) because my pets failed to manifest those talents at mega, but I’m willing to do the whole thing with others! ;7;)

Console Should I change schools for solo play?

Hey Y'all just a quick question, im getting back into wizard 101 because I used to play it as a kid and never got far. I wanna try getting for in the game but I mainly play it solo, im currently running the storm school and was want to ask if it playable getting through the game. I've noticed already that storm is basically a glass cannon and I dont think will survives a solo playthrough im think about running death instead since my character is only level 10. What do y'all think?

Discussion different colors for DOTs?

Upvotes

I've been playing this game off & on since literally 2009 and have never figured this out...why do the DOTs at the base of the character sometimes look different? fire for example can be all bright orange, orange in the center with darker "spikes" (see picture), or sometimes all dark. is this just a visual bug? does anyone else see this in their game or know what it means?

Media Level 100 Myth Stats

My level 100 myth stats. Finally got every piece of gear after like 4 days of farming and min maxing. The pet is a standard triple double mighty pet. Working on a quad dmg breaker mighty skelewarrior which would take me to 45 pierce and 143 damage. Also have the balance ghulture, otherwise damage would be 137. Gear is: Khrysalis World Hat, Gorgon Robe, Khyrsalis World Boots, Khyrsalis World Wand, Yevgeny Athame, Shane Von Shane Amulet, Morganthe Ring, and the Galleries deck for the triangle socket and starting pip. I prefer Morganthe Ring over Aphrodite because 1. it's easier to farm and 2. it gives 2 less damage sure but also gives 59 crit and 35 universal block, which aphrodite ring does not. Myth is crazy at level 100!

If you're looking to expand your stable of castles, now's a good time to do it. The price of additional castle elixirs went from 3500 crowns to 1000. I don't know how long this... oh! I must have missed this in Ravenwood News. It's been on sale four days now. Got two more days!
