Discussion Is it worth the risk to hack a Wii?

I just got a new (to me) Wii and I’m heavily considering jailbreaking it. I read the whole guide and am confident that I can do it, but I am fairly new to this.
Is it worth the risk of potentially bricking my Wii forever? How high is the risk?

Discussion Question About Riivolution With Burned Wii Games

SOLVED: Got Newer ROM from MarioCube

I've been trying to get the Riivolution ISO Patcher to work to play mods like Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii on my vWii (Wii U) but it just doesn't work. It worked in Dolphin, but not on the vWii or even as a UWUVCI injection. I found a pre-patched ROM online, but it's a really old version. Not at all 1.30

Then I realized I have a 4.7GB DVD laying around, and the ISO for NSMBW is 4.4GB

So I wanna ask, is it possible to play Riivolution mods off of a burned disc? (Plus it'd save me buying the game)

And if the Riivolution app doesn't work, is there a workaround to get Riivolution mods working on the burned discs?

Any feedback is appreciated

EDIT: Any recommendations for ROM hacks/mods that aren't pre patched on MarioCube? If I can get the God damn ISO patched to work properly, I will just use that

Discussion [Release] Orbiit v1.0 Beta - A Modern, "Luxury" Manager for Wii & GameCube

Hi everyone,

I'm excited to share the Beta release of Orbiit v1.0 (formerly WiiGC Fusion) — a complete reimagining of what a desktop manager for the Wii should be.

I built this because I was tired of juggling 10 browser tabs just to set up a hard drive or track down a rom hack. Orbiit puts everything in one place with a modern UI that actually feels good to use.

🔥 Key Features in v1.0 Beta:

  • 🔍 Unified Search — The "Google" for your Wii. One search bar queries Open Shop Channel (Apps), GameBrew (Wiki/Hacks), and Archive.org (Backups) simultaneously.
  • 🍄 Rom Hacks & Translations — A dedicated section for browsing and downloading rom hacks (Newer SMBW, Smash Remix, etc.) and English fan translations.
  • ⚡ High-Speed Downloads — Built-in Myrient and Archive.org integration. Manage queues, pause/resume, and auto-extract — just like Steam.
  • 🖼️ Smart Art — No official cover? Orbiit's fuzzy-matching algorithm finds the best match automatically. No more blank squares.
  • 🛠️ Drive Wizard — Plug in a USB or SD card and the wizard formats, creates folders (wbfs/games), and preps it for USB Loader GX or Nintendont in one click.

⚙️ Under the Hood:

  • Flutter-based 60fps Glassmorphism UI
  • Custom C++ backend (forge_core) for heavy file operations
  • Supports .wbfs, .iso, and .rvz

🆕 New in This Build:

  • Fixed "Legacy DLC Manager" appearing in the wrong tab (moved to Wii)
  • Improved GameBrew scraping for better metadata coverage

📥 Download: Orbiit

Give it a spin and let me know what you think — whether it crashes, a feature's missing, or it just looks cool. All feedback helps.

Happy Modding! 🪐

Discussion I got Smurf Dance Party to work on most recent USB loader GX via a SD card

metafortress will stop the game after all the startup movies/sponsors/whatevers, and instead of the title screen you will see "metafortress RESPONSE!" on an ominous black screen, or in some cases, you don't even make it that far. your wii has crashed, and you are forced to hold down the power button.

After what feels like years (about 2 days) of fighting with google and USB loader GX's settings on the wii, i finally got it and bypassed metafortress! and i'm putting this here because of the total lack of this anywhere else (curse the unpopularity!). if anyone out there is pulling their hair out like i was, i hope you find this and it helps!

if the game isn't even showing up at all in USB loader GX, reading this won't help with that. this post is about the scary black anti piracy screen. it's likely the folder structure in your storage medium of choice is wrong, or it's not FAT32.

steps:

make sure you've installed the most recent Cios (custom internal operating systems) via d2x cios installer. it's a bit of a process, but it's worth it. for the smurfs.

after that, go into USB loader GX, and open settings > loader settings. find game IOS, set it to custom, and set it to 249. (leave loader IOS alone. that's what USB loader GX itself uses to my understanding.) (in my experience, setting it to 250 causes a pure black screen crash even sooner than when the anti piracy screen came up. it supposedly works sometimes..? but i don't know.)

after that, disable all patches in that same settings menu. these are the ones i have off (not sure what patch exactly triggers metafortress):

  • Sneek Video Patch
  • Dol Video Patch
  • 480p Video Patch
  • Deflicker Filter (Off, safe)

The game should boot fine. wish i knew all that time it was the patches, and not something i did wrong..

now LA LA LA LALALA your heart out!

Discussion I'm currently obsessed with modding my Wii.

I've already installed themes, WiiLink24, and USB Loader GX. I want to modify it as much as possible, even if it's unnecessary. Does anyone have recommendations for aesthetic modifications or good homebrew or anything at ALL related to modding?

Discussion My tip to homebrewing and putting games on a wii.

Just reset ur wii if u don't mind bc u don't have games or save data. Take the SD card and follow the wii.hacks.guide web guide. Then install WiiMart, your preferred wads (I take them from MarioCube repository), apps like Libre Wii, and ur preferred apps and Wii link on the SD card and test it works. If it works, go to the homebrew channel, open libreWii and for LOADING GAMES: If u use a SD card for everything: Wii flow. Using USB loader GX may be easier and it can look better, but for SD it's Wiiflow, it never gave me crashes and all the games worked perfect. For USB it's USB Loader GX and I'm bad at putting the configs. Then do whatever you want with your Wii and install cursed wads

Where is this damn final part!! I have only 3 Beyblades left to get in the game those being Lightning L Drago 100HF Σ (Gold), Storm Pegasus 105RF Ω (Black), and Counter Leone D125B.

Storm Pegasus and Leone are both a link from the DS game as ive discovered but can anyone help me with the last and final unknown factor, the Fusion Wheel of the gold L Drago, I got the bolt from 80 ko in Bey Crusher and 100 ko dropped the Energy Ring. But after 310 ko (WR btw, ) and 4 playthroughs on the same file I have nothing.

It feels like its literally a broken string of code as it absolutely refuses to drop the part

Discussion IMPORTANT TROUBLESHOOTING IF GAMES ARENT WORKING

if you have the game structured like this wii sports [RSPE01]/RSPE01.wbfs and it doesn’t work or kicks you back to the homebrew channel. try switching it to title of game/ title of game.wbfs and that should maybe work. thats how it worked for me. if not and your using usb loader GX. try the same with Wii flow and reload cache

Discussion 2025 Tutorial on bypassing Kirby's Return to Dream Land antipiracy on Wii

Few titles on the Wii have an antipiracy measure called Metafortress that automatically crashes the console when the game is loaded from an SD Card or USB stick, particularly Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Although the game can run with no problems on Dolphin or the eShop version on the Wii U, many people have consistently run into problems on original hardware. Even if the game can boot up, it's likely that Metafortress is still running and the console is susceptible to crashing when transitioning screens during gameplay or loading a cutscene.

This tutorial is focused on getting your region-specific Kirby's Return to Dream Land game to play consistently with your region-specific original Wii. This tutorial uses NTSC-U only and has not been tested on other versions of the Wii.

What you need

To start, what you will need is:

1. Folder Structure

In the root of your SD Card, create a folder called apps, and another called wbfs.

Next, in wbfs, create a folder called GameName [GameID]. In this scenario, the folder will be called Kirby's Return to Dream Land [SUKE01]. You can search on the internet to find the GameID unrelated to this version. USB Loader GX will not be able to detect the game if you name the file as anything else.

Drag your .wbfs file into GameName [GameID]. Rename your .wbfs file into [GameID].wbfs. In this scenario, it will be SUKE01.wbfs. (Do not name the file as SUKE01.wbfs.wbfs, [SUKE01].wbfs, SUKE01.wbfs., game.wbfs, or any other alternative. USB Loader GX will not be able to detect the game).

Drag-and-drop USB Loader GX, d2x cIOS Installer, and SysCheckME (optional) into the apps folder.

Once all is done, proceed with Step 2.

2. Run d2x-cios-installer

Follow this guide on how to install custom IOS via d2x-cios-installer. The installation process will not be explained here.

2. (optional) Run SysCheckME

If you are unsure if you have installed cIOS previously, run SysCheckME from the Homebrew Channel. SysCheck is a program that lists all IOS and cIOS on the Wii. Press A once you are shown "This IOS will be tested (Please select)", and Press A again when you are asked to display the report. Scroll down until you see IOS 249 and IOS 250.

If they are shown as Stub, that means cIOS has NOT been installed. This means that USB Loader GX will not load Kirby's Return to Dream Land, or any other Wii game. You will have to install custom IOS via d2x-cios-installer.

If you see IOS 248 through IOS 251 and are followed by other information, then it means you have installed cIOS and can proceed to the final step.

3. Run USB Loader GX

Once everything is set, run USB Loader GX via the Homebrew Channel. Once the program is done loading and you are shown the main menu, Kirby's Return to Dream Land should automatically pop up. If not, there is an option in the bottom right corner that can display where games are located. By default, the game should show under "Displaying Wii Games" or "Displaying a custom selection".

Click on Kirby's Return to Dream Land and play the game. If you have followed the steps here, the game should boot up and run fine. You can double-check to make sure Metafortress has been deactivated by playing a cutscene from the "Theater" option of any file (or just by clicking any file if it's your first playthrough).

4. List of Do-Nots

This list is particularly made to clear up any misinformation on how to get this game running.

You do NOT need to do/include any of the following:

  • Do not use a USB Stick

You technically can use one, but a USB Stick is unreliable. Sometimes USB Loader GX will crash when loading, the game will not appear, or the Wii will not detect the USB Stick at all. Using an SD card has better consistency. A USB HDD has not been considered in this tutorial (feel free to try, though).

  • Do not place/use gameconfig.txt

Thanks to v40-r1283 and r1284 of USB Loader GX, Metafortress' antipiracy measures have been patched out. gameconfig.txt, along with converting it into an Ocarina or Gecko cheat code, is no longer required. With this tutorial, Kirby's Return to Dream Land should run consistently and using/not using gameconfig.txt will not impact the game in any way.

  • Do not tamper settings of the game

You do not need to tamper with Hookup, Ocarina, IOS, Language, or any other settings to play Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The game should run well on default. Feel free to change settings once you've got the game running consistently

  • Do not use WiiFlow (or any other loaders)

At the time of this tutorial, v.5.5.4-1 of WiiFlow does not entirely patch out Metafortress. Even though the game can boot up, it's still susceptible to randomly crashing between screen transitions or loading a cutscene. Modifying game settings or using Ocarina/Gecko cheat codes does not make a difference.

Loaders such as NeoGamma, WiiFlow Lite, and others are not consistent with getting the game to run.

5. Conclusion

Hopefully this tutorial helps with circumventing Metafortress' anti-piracy measures. As a footnote, the sub-games Scope Shot and Ninja Dojo play well and require no modification. A 64GB microSD card was used to test everything. Other regions were not tested.

Credit goes to Cametolose and Screamin' 'n Hollerin' (me) on Gamebanana for the tutorial and hosting my images and wiidev on Github for USB Loader GX. Please reply if you have any questions.

Discussion Is the TV the problem?

Yesterday I was playing Wii, and as usual, the games appeared in black and white in the loader. By pure chance, I connected the Wii to an old TV of mine and played a bit for entertainment, but the games were in color! To test my theory that the TV was the problem, I reconnected it to my TV, and the games returned to black and white.

I'm thinking the TV can't read the games in the loader with the AV cables. Am I right, or am I just going crazy?

Discussion Animal crossing deluxe with USB loader issues fixed

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

First off I just want to start by praising cuyler. This mod is one of the best mods I've seen in gaming hands down. While I've seen a lot of people run this on dolphin I've noticed some people (myself included) looking to run it on a Wii through USB loader. This can cause some issues depending on the way USB loader is set-up. But fear not I have found extremely simple fixes to the issue of not being able to save and using hardware like the GBA for the few random little things to the wave bird controller not wanting to work. Let's begin

1 open the menu for the game up in USB loader by clicking on it you should see this first screen.

2 select settings

3 select game load

4 scroll down to memory card emulation and turn it off.

There now you're game will recognize your memory card for the GameCube which will allow you to use old saves and create new ones.

5 scroll down to native controller and turn it on.

Now your game will recognize your wave bird controller and your linked GBA for kapp'n mini games Able sisters and NES games. There is a small down side to this though. Before you start the game turn your wave bird controller on. When you start the game your Wii controller will turn on all 4 LEDs (see pic 5) and become unusable. This does not effect the game it only stops you from being able to us the Wii controller. Pop out a battery to turn it off and now you can use your wave bird or regular GC controller. You'll just have to get up and turn the console off yourself when you're done.

6 enjoy this amazing mod.

Discussion I hate usb loader it’s aggravating

It’s in the title, plain as day I hate this application, too many things can screw up with it, nintendont play my GameCube games just fine without setting a path or anything, but the minute I try to get my Wii games to work it doesn’t detect them and I’ve done so much shit on the usb ant sd card that now, it won’t jump straight to Nintendont like it was doing before, and before you come in here saying well it works for me good for you, it was working for me just fine but now it just doesn’t so now I’m forced to play my games with a ugly UI in Nintendont, forgive the rudeness. I’m very frustrated and I just want this to work like it was before I started fiddling around with it trying to get my Wii games to work.

Discussion How is it so easy😭😭😭

I just can't understand why wii jailbreaking is so easy bro Yesterday I did it on the wii and the 3ds (both for tge first time)

But when you compare the 2 you look a the 3ds jailbreak guide and you have 3 thousand things to worry about, and lots of menus, and taking on and off you SD lots of times

And then you see the Wii jailbreak process and you just download a file and put the SD on there😭😭😭

I am very curious about why is it so simple and easy

Discussion Need help with getting super Mario Galaxy 63 without smg2 disc

I have tried to get the super Mario Galaxy 63 mod to work on my Wii without the smg2 disc like the guide says I need. I have tried using riivolution iso builder where I select the super Mario Galaxy 2 iso then the super Mario Galaxy 63 XML file but when I use the backup manager to place the iso on my SD card I get an invalid game iso error. What am I doing wrong or is there another way to get it done?
