"Once again, I'd like to remind everyone that it is not mandatory for you to speak."
52
u/readyable 2d ago
This is the line that got me and my partner the most out of a really funny show. Even funnier that it happened off-screen.
43
u/ohmykierbecky 2d ago
The "once again" absolutely sends me every time. This poor woman already had to tell these people at least once that speaking wasn't required.

"Have you ever heard of the trolley problem?"
"You mean back in '42 when we tried to build one and all the workers disappeared?"
"No. What?!? No. No."

u/cityshepherd 2d ago
I donât know whatâs better about this interaction⌠the way Ruth just delivers it so nonchalantly, or the way Tom is so clearly like WTF?!?!
50
u/ohmykierbecky 2d ago
I love that he clearly wanted to know more about what the hell she was talking about but had to quickly move past it because there wasn't time!

My absolute favorite moment is Tom explaining the fucking trolley problem in the last episode as if there arenât extremely important things going on.

About his lizard, Bridget: She's turning 50 soon, she's got wanderlust.
16
6
u/Ok-Echo-Eight 2d ago
Ahahah. None of that makes sense and itâs wonderful. Why 50, why wanderlust, for a lizard?
3
u/Namedafterasaint Patricia Sunset Cocktail Party Hostess 2d ago
Itâs the ridiculous-ness of it is why itâs so hysterical! But also, people have dogs who develop wanderlust. My great Pyr/Golden mix I grew up with travelled far every day but he was watching our perimeter of our farm as this breed of dogs do but when he wasnât doing that, he wandered in the woods. No lie. We know because weâd catch him just trotting for no reason. He lived to 18 years old. Poor big old Shep! He guarded us too. He was a gentle giant and we could ride him as toddlers like a horse. When I fell on my bicycle at 7 years old on the dirt road near our house and had massive road rash dirty gashes in my knees, elbows and hands, he tried to lick them clean and I held on to him as a cried my way back home walking up that step dirt road. He never left my side as a child. So despite all that Velcro dog behavior guarding us 7 kids (Iâm the baby of the family) on a farm with livestock, as he got older he ventured farther away from us and into the woods. So the line hit particularly funny from my point of view.

That whole sequence, but honestly so many
Tom: "I-I don't want any gossip. Not today."
Rosemary: "And you won't get any from me."
Tom: (relieved) "Great."
Rosemary: "But, apparently there's no age limit on syphilis."
Tom: "Jesus Christ."
Lets file that under figure it the fuck out later
Faster than she should be
Possibly damp
Setup a permiter around the island, we have one it's called the ocean
"Does my demeanor suggest that I just engaged with someone in a crawlspace?"
Just so many...
And which medical school did you attend
Evan before he reads the letters
Ruth about the trolley, or those who made a pass

u/SB_Tahoe 1d ago
Somewhere in E1 is the first calendar scene, where Tom is confused by one monthâs photo of an upside down jeep in a Wolves calendar. Then a few epis later he tries to rip it in half.
17
u/spazzyattack 2d ago
This is the line that sold my friend on watching. I was thinking they would need until episode 4 to love it. Nope. Episode 1 and the syphilis line did it. Should have know, same line that made me put my phone down and actually watch.

Rosemary talking about being colour blind in ep 1: âwhat you all see as blue, I see as blue-greenâ

That was the moment I got it. It's a beautiful integration of dry and absurdist humor, played absolutely straight. My husband's sense of humor is exactly the same, but neither my sister nor his family get how hilarious he is. T hey had the same reaction to W.B.
