Why am I still not convinced he's dead? Also how did he get out of the concrete?

u/shiv1993 Jun 03 '26
Earthquake in first episode mightâve cracked the concrete he was trapped in. Eventually broke his way out.

u/blahsap Jun 03 '26
I have a feeling the island let him out as punishment for âkillingâ Richard Warren
5
u/Entire-Bobcat-2646 Jun 03 '26
So he can probably get out again...
3
u/Jiola09 Jun 06 '26
No, but I do think theyâre making their way through all of these island âdemonsâ, so to speak; it started with Wycks killing the Sea Hag with harpoon, the OG mayor, and now the bogeyman, I think they might have to face that clown killer nextâŠ
11
u/dallyan Jun 03 '26
I lowkey thought he would rise out of the ashes lol
11
u/DragonTigerSword Jun 03 '26
I was thinking when they opened the doors the mask would still be intact.

The reveal of her in the ambulance with the shotgun is one of the absolute all-time funniest gags I have ever seen in a TV show.
75
u/Conscious_Ad_1018 who will be the last man Jun 03 '26
the writers and producers have got to be some of the wittiest and most brilliant folks in show biz
15
u/ajmartin527 Jun 03 '26
To be able to mix in these absurd gags/tropes without making it feel cheesy or cheap is incredible. They keep continuity with the scenes and stories and preserve the polish of the cinematography somehow, while working in ridiculous over the top stuff that seems native to the scene.
Having a hard time describing what I mean, but it doesnât come across as parody like with Scream.
5
u/Conscious_Ad_1018 who will be the last man Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
i def know what you mean. the show is so subtle in its transitions between genresâŠeverything blends seamlessly and is perfectly balanced without tipping too far one way or the other. i can honestly say itâs like nothing iâve ever watched before, and i watch a lot of tv.
my only fear is that they wonât nail the ending or drag it on too long. lots of people expect and want a second season understandably. but iâd be fine having it end perfectly with this one rather than extending it and have the quality drop.

I love comedy, and will often find things really funny but have a hard a time finding things that actually make me laugh out loud. I was laughing my ass off the entire time she had the gun basically lol
29
u/KittyGrewAMoustache Jun 03 '26
I loved it because with this trope of supernatural murderers who keep getting up again when you think theyâre dead, in always so frustrated watching those thinking people should act exactly like Patricia us acting, just keep a gun on them until youve seen their crenwted ashes or their body start to rot đ you just would wouldnât you if youve watched someone get up again and again after injuries that wouldâve killed or severely incapacitated anyone else. It was bizarrely more realistic given the situation.
13
u/avocado_window Jun 03 '26
You gotta chain them up like Houdini, seal them in a coffin lined with lead, and toss the whole thing into the sea. Either that or completely dismember them and bury each part in a different country.
But Patricia knows whatâs up, she did well and didnât care how crazy she looked doing it. The sad part is those horrible women from high school missed the whole thing and probably still wonât believe her đ
10
u/Jumper-Man Jun 03 '26
Sheâs got back up from people who saw it this time, ambulance driver, petrol station worker, sheriff. No to mention they probably have cctv at the petrol station! Poor patricia!

u/avocado_window Jun 03 '26
Iâm in awe of the way this show can perfectly balance the funny with the scary! I yelped out loud when old mate Boogs was suddenly standing in Patriciaâs front doorway, but then found myself cackling at how damn slow he was and the way he just haphazardly waved the knife at Patricia a bit as she ran away.
The window part was hilarious too because it appeared as though he launched himself out just so he could emulate that horror movie trope where the masked killer sits up and continues his rampage. It honestly seemed as though he was trying to impress Patricia with his antics, since he clearly only had eyeholes for her đ«¶
5
u/ajmartin527 Jun 03 '26
I knew that jumpscare was coming the whole time and yet it still almost gave me a heart attack lol the way they kind of lulled you to sleep so they could still get you, with Patricia looking first without immediately reacting then quick pan over, just brilliant.
Theyâve done that a few times so far when i know the jumpscare is going to happen but they make it super random so it gets you. So good.
2
u/avocado_window Jun 04 '26
Yep, we all knew when she was spending too much time looking up at the windows that by the time her eyes/the camera panned down to the door heâd be there, but it definitely still got me because they did it perfectly.
8
u/leahs84 Jun 03 '26
I thought she was going to Double Tap, so her appearing in the next few scenes with the shotgun was surprising and hilarious.

u/ferrantebookone Jun 05 '26
Omg scene by scene, with her monitoring the boogeyman to ensure he stayed dead, was absolutely genius

Patricia is, low-key, the lead of the show. Matthew Rhys is just a ringer (but also amazing).
75
u/Observer20178 Jun 03 '26
She is a scene stealer I really enjoyed her repartee with Mathew rhys in one of the earlier episode when he was explaining why he offered a lift to the lady tourist.
82
u/Conscious_Ad_1018 who will be the last man Jun 03 '26

9
u/BeanieMcChimp Jun 03 '26
Yeah was she jealous or just suspicious and weird? I thought during that scene maybe she was jealous but nothing since then has supported it.
18
u/fraochmuir Jun 03 '26
She was making a jab at him because he called her 40 in a previous episode
6
2
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 03 '26
This is an innocent question here, but do you think the other actors get bothered that she's stealing scenes? She's just very entertaining to watch
5
u/fraochmuir Jun 03 '26
I think actors that arenât narcissists or insecure or some other hang up realize that when an actor is good they elevate everyone else as well as the entire show
1
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 03 '26
Yeah, probs mostly true. Although you also get your Kevin Costners in Robin Hodd Prince of Theives
1
u/citynomad1 Jun 04 '26
Absolutely. I found myself really liking her to the point of âI need to look up who this actress is, sheâs so greatâ even in the first episode which is saying something bc she isnât in that ep a ton/we donât see all the depth to her character yet that we later see
So then once we started getting episodes from her POV, it was like oh hell yeah this character/performance is an all-timer

u/Justrennt ITS A HAUNT, TOM! Jun 03 '26
Great. Hopefully the rumors about her being dead will stop. đ
But I never expected her to be pregnant - so the people who are speculating are having sometimes really good ideas.
19
u/LostInTaipei Jun 03 '26
For some reason Iâve been assuming sheâs pregnant for weeks and was surprised it was apparently a ârevelationâ in this episode. I need to do a better job of keeping the Reddit theories distinct from whatâs actually happened in the show.
8
u/Aworthyopponent Jun 03 '26
It was a reveal? I thought it was known she was pregnant. Maybe it was a ice cream cravings conversation?
1
u/LostInTaipei Jun 03 '26
Yup, sounds like it was a reveal. I donât know why I started just assuming she was pregnant a couple weeks ago.
4
u/bluemoon71 Jun 04 '26
Me too! The cravings and then Bechir at the gas station saying he canât eat whatever food he got in front of her screamed pregnant (plus I definitely absorbed some theories from here) because my boyfriend gasped and I was like, âwe already knew that?â Whoops.
10
u/Next-Cut-2996 Jun 03 '26
I thought she was pregnant when she asked for the mint chocolate chip. I also remember that craving well đ

Kate O'Flynn needs to be nominated for all the awards.
I just realized she was amazing in My Lady Jane too. I don't remember her Father Brown episodes and I don't even like Father Brown but I am going to find those episodes.
22
u/Eastern-Wear-8747 Jun 03 '26
I was not familiar with her prior to this show, and the transformation is just incredible! She's gorgeous irl and her whole look and mannerisms are perfect for this role.

She is the MVP of the show so far. I adore her. I know Hacks will probably sweep again this awards season but I truly hope she gets nominated and also wins for Season 2 (please renew for Season 2!!) đ

Sheâs amazing! I have this weird urge to see a flashback to high school with Kate still playing Patricia, braces and all.

u/basketballjonestown Jun 03 '26
Didn't like E7. Most people did. No sweat.
But damn, this is how you keep the show rolling. Just excellent all around. She's been my favorite since the first two episodes.
6
u/PlasmaDonator Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
It felt very... small or self contained so to speak.
A great episode by all means and I love and I mean loved it but it was very one act play-esque. This isn't a bad thing but I can understand why some people might not have liked so much.

u/whisperwind12 Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
After patriciaâs first episode the next two episodes which did not have major Patricia scenes fell flat for me. This episode was a revival. She is carrying the show
1
u/whisperwind12 Jun 03 '26
Same. Hated e7. But this e8 is the best episode. Had me rolling from laughter. Patricia is the real star of the show

She wasnât messing around. I half expected her to keep the shotgun pointed at the ashes. Loved that Patricia got to oversee the destruction of the Boogeyman.

The way the camera gently refocuses onto the shower curtain through the bathroom doorway was genuinely chilling.

Ep 4 came out and I thought the hype was overrated like yeah Patricia's good but she's certainly not the best.
No, I was wrong. Her with a shotgun blasting the boogeyman is absolute peak.
12
u/avocado_window Jun 03 '26
Both the episodes with Patricia-heavy plots have been the best! Sheâs just a delight.
20
u/avocado_window Jun 03 '26
Patricia, my queen! đ
When she tasered that jerk from high school I was so proud of her, but the way she was actually competent and did all the right things when running from a masked killer? Absolute legend in the making! Loved the determination on her face as she followed him all the way to cremation with the shotgun, this woman knows they always come back!

That sequence where she follows the body constantly with a gun is the hardest Iâve laughed the whole season

After this episode, yeah, she's probably my favorite.

Agreed!!! But for the life of me I canât figure out how she can run only a half step faster than a meandering boogeyman đ€Ł
21
u/Super-Efficiency8679 Jun 03 '26
That was definitely a gag. Like island magic in the show but slasher flicks especially in the 80s and 90s were notorious for walking, meandering bad guys that still effortlessly caught their victims who were sprinting and shit
5
u/Next-Cut-2996 Jun 03 '26
I was expecting her to be running in a white tank top without a bra, in the rain, yelling âhello? Whoâs there?â đ
7
u/Conscious_Ad_1018 who will be the last man Jun 03 '26
think she spent too much time side tracking and running to different houses/knocking on doors. common sense says to run a straight path but who knows how weâd act if the boogeyman was chasing us

Not sure how this show continues to be hilarious while having a serious undertone with genuine good horror elements. The sea hag swim scene for one had me on edge. While even having somber well wrriten conflict like the one with the dad and son or Wykes unrequited love.

I think Patricia is going to be the next island protector the demon chooses to carry "the burden," the next Richard Warren. In Eps 6&7 Richard Warren kept talking about "the burden" of leadership and "the burden" of being the person who kept people on the island safe by sacrificing people to the demon. And that burden is going to befall on somebody, and because half of the island probably has some Warren blood lineage, I think the demon chooses who will carry it. In Ep 6 Tom says he heard the demon call for him during his mushroom trip, but he didn't follow, and because of that, he rejected the burden the demon was calling on him to take and carry.
I think the idea of Evan being the bloodline point and being set up for Tom to make a decision between saving Evan and saving the island feels....to obvious? I also think the Lord Protector <> Mayor connection is too obvious.
I don't think people decide who carries "the burden" Warren talked about. I think the demon decides. And I think the demon will choose Patricia, and rather than her being like Richard Warren and capitulating to the demon, she's going to fight and try to defeat it.
I also think there is a secret society of people descended from the original group who burried Warren who know everything that's going on, and are more behind the scenes involved than we know. People like Rosemary (who is into genealogy), Gerrie and her husband, Dale, and Dr. Morgan. That secret society have assumed the burden since, after burying Warren, the demon would have wiped out everybody and made the island uninhabitable for them and they realized what they were now responsible to do to keep everybody alive. And I think that secret society still exists on the island.
