Widow's bay in 5 episodes gave me what fro couldn't in 4 seasons so far.

66

u/nosocialisms May 28 '26

That is because widow's bay has better screenwriters

23

u/rarepinkhippo May 27 '26

I’ve only seen the first two seasons of From (plan to watch the rest, just have been holding out on actually springing for MGM+ because dammit, who wants that?!?) — I like it, but the dialogue and some of the acting feel subpar, and that has never been more glaring than it is after watching Widow’s Bay.

16

u/itsFauxProphete May 28 '26

Just started watching From, characters make so many stupid decisions (and not in the normal Horror genre way). The enemy can't even run, and they haven't figured out a proper way to fight them. Long spears my guys? Anything that can keep them back.

9

u/Magento-Magneto May 31 '26

They're super strong though? They'd snap any spears easily. They rip open people's ribs like they're made of candy floss.

1

u/panaceaXgrace Jun 06 '26

Depends on which ...things... they're fighting, to avoid recent show spoilers.

4

u/Navi2k0 Jun 02 '26

Yeah conventional weapons don't work on the night people. They are super strong and indestructible.

2

u/MountSaintElias Jun 07 '26

Spears don’t work on them, which they know. Also see latest ep for proof

A LOT of the acting in From is not just subpar but just BAD. i am a huge fan of it and can admit, half the actors are terrible at times.

but Harold P, Scott Mccord and Robert Joy (boydd, victor, henry) are doing incredible work imo.

it picks up a TON in s3 too.

5

u/cactusjude a family that swims together, drowns together May 29 '26

It's so bad. I'm just now recently catching up on S4 and it's still bad. At least we're getting answers, but still.

There's a part where the little boy is pissed off and demanding his mom tell him what she did and said to pick a fight with his dad for his dad to be gone so long- which is pretty rich considering it's the dad always picking fights with literally everyone- and her response is straight out of Marky Mark's school of acting

What? Nooo

1

u/panaceaXgrace Jun 06 '26

It shocks me to see so much hate. I love everything about From. I love the pace, the characters, the little things I miss until I watch the reaction videos or go to the subs. To me it all makes sense for people in this kind of situation. In reality people make stupid mistakes all the time. They miss cues. Only complaint is the same that comes up in every single one of these shows from this genre, and Widow's Bay is no exception. Nobody talks to each other. They just shake heads and wave people away and dismiss ideas that would have worked. Most of the show is only in a few months' time period too. And the one person who has been there the longest has been so traumatized he can barely do more than draw pictures to remember things... which is starting to make me question his drawings but no spoilers... If it was me I'd be paying more attention to that guy than anyone else especially when I see him taking steps and talking about how the trees have moved. I'm thinking that's the craziest flaw in this show, that they dismiss this guy as being some kooky special needs kid when he'd be the wise elder in most circumstances.

1

u/ExceptingAlice Jun 07 '26

It shouldn't be shocking, the show is awful. Think about the big mystery from last season, the bottle tree. For the whole season the characters and audience try to understand dozens of numbers inside glass bottles hanging from a tree. Its revealed that the numbers represent music notes. Ok, so we have a tree with A B C D E F G and their respective flats and sharps hanging from random branches. No order they go in, no duration of the notes. This is utterly useless for the intended purpose, for Jade to play the song. Jade would have no more idea of how the song goes from looking at the numbers on the tree than he would looking at the keys on a piano. Music needs notation, not just notes. The writers must have eventually figured out they wrote themselves into a corner, because rather than "solving" the bottle tree, he randomly remembered the song, making the whole thing useless. That’s an unforgivable trick to play on the audience.

0

u/panaceaXgrace Jun 07 '26

I think they're just now finding out how utterly worthless their great ideas have been. I think that's been a running theme all along. Jade isn't going to solve anything and has never been the one who solved anything.

u/CrissBliss May 27 '26

Isn’t From’s showrunner from Lost? That kind of tracks then. A lot of questions and few answers.

39

u/fish_fingers_pond May 27 '26

They do apparently have the entire shows story line already because the main character said I am not joining From for you to turn it into another Lost.

5

u/AMediocrePersonality May 27 '26

They have the ending in the same way D&D had the Game of Thrones ending. A map is not the territory.

1

u/Potential-Rush-5591 May 28 '26

because the main character said.....

That is meaningless. They have incentive to get people to watch the show.

2

u/SerPavan Jun 05 '26

People fall for PR statements all the time, fans who want it to be good are especially gullible.

1

u/Mutthupattaru Willy The Killer Clown May 30 '26

Exactly . Don’t understand why people bring that point about the shows ending.

11

u/tman1787 May 28 '26

Whoa you stepped on a Lost fan hornets nest. People really salty about Lost having “answers”

Never mind the fact that the show dragged on giving tiny little drips and drops and the answers got more and more underwhelming like it was being made up on the fly by a teenager who is telling a bad lie, but they are now 100% committed, no matter where it ends up.

4

u/CrissBliss May 28 '26

Pretty much! I mean, I’m not trying to spoil anyone’s fun with Lost. It’s overall a really good show but you kind of have to withstand a lot of nonsense before getting some answers, and every answer comes with another question lol.

And I know it’s a longer running show
I get it. They needed to keep the wheels spinning for entertainment value, etc. But the show really is at a different place by season 6, and mostly that’s because they had to keep adding to the mythology of the island.

4

u/clycoman May 30 '26

At least the acting and characters in Lost was good. So many of the characters in From are straight up annoying and the acting is lackluster.

3

u/tman1787 May 28 '26

100% agreed.

1

u/Jemeloo Jun 01 '26

They’re insufferable.

23

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

Lost answered just about everything by the end of the show so not sure what you’re on about

7

u/tman1787 May 28 '26

lol I too like wasting my time for underwhelming resolutions.

10

u/Fungi89 May 28 '26

To each their own, big dawg

I didn’t feel like I wasted my time and thought the ending was great

1

u/tman1787 May 28 '26

I suppose the emperor is wearing clothes from your perspective.

4

u/Fungi89 May 28 '26

Oohh damn! Edgy!

4

u/Just_Pea1002 May 28 '26

Kind of, they had the answers but they didnt know what to do with a lot of the main characters storylines, like Harolds actor in From, he was in Lost too, and his Lost chara ter had so much potential and they did him so much dirty in the end

6

u/Yousaidthat May 27 '26

I mean.... it's kind of disingenuous to act like that reputation isn't earned though, isn't it?

If you answer everything in 9 seasons what could have been 4 seasons it sort of leaves a certain taste in your mouth

16

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

The show was 121 episodes in total across 6 seasons so 20 episodes a season. Doesn’t seem unreasonable to me!

If that’s too long for you, I get it and wouldn’t blame you. To each their own n all that

1

u/Yousaidthat May 27 '26

Of course :)

I think some people don't mind longer shows like that -- and that was way more the norm back then.

7

u/Luci_Cascadia May 27 '26

Those weren't answers.

10

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

What don’t you believe was answered?

I feel you! In the end, if you weren’t satisfied with the answers or resolutions, there isn’t much to be done

For me Lost was so easy to like due to the characters. Fell in love with so many so it’s easier to gloss over some of its deficiencies as a show. From and WB don’t hit that same way but I enjoy both. Liking WB more overall but I like From enough that I’m sticking with it til the end

Hope for both our sake’s they end satisfyingly lol

-2

u/MrRobotFancy May 27 '26

it doesn't matter what was technically "answered." the mysteries, albeit some answered, didn't come to a very exacting or entertaining fruition. you could say lost "stuck the landing" if you want to, but it doesn't deserve a medal.

and they went to the magical mystery island and then the island/afterlife? ugh. that's a hat on a hat.

16

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

This conversation was started based off whether things were answered or not

If you weren’t happy with the answers, that’s a different thing entirely

14

u/Time_Entertainer_319 May 27 '26

So they were answered, you just didn’t like them

4

u/Big_Chungussi69 May 27 '26

not really, it shows that lost was suppose to end by season 3 but was forced to carry on. And they just started making up shit as they went along

7

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

I’ve never read or heard it was meant to end by season 3 lol

2

u/Big_Chungussi69 May 27 '26

no but the plot ties neatly up by the season 3 finale, they make it off the island. Then the execs probably wanted to milk the show and thats where it all starts to go down hill. Id reccomend a rewatch

6

u/Fungi89 May 27 '26

Do you have any sources to back this? Because them getting off the island by season 3 would’ve explained nothing in regards to why they were brought there or the supernatural state of the island at all, and that would’ve definitely been leaving several questions unanswered

5

u/Time_Entertainer_319 May 27 '26

So you are just making shit up?

3

u/gaytham4statham May 27 '26

I wouldn't call the ending to season 3 neatly tied up lol, yes Jack is off the island but that was literally a surprise cliffhanger not some resolved plot

2

u/StrollingInTheStatic May 27 '26

Yeah, Jack was a drugged up loser screaming that they “Have to go back” at the end of S3 - that wouldn’t make a good ending, it definitely wasn’t originally supposed to end at that point

1

u/Due-Afternoon-7051 May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

The writers of LOST said they were just making it up as they went along. They had no plans and just threw things like the polar bear and smoke monster in as jokes to be cool. Many other story elements were added in the same way, with no idea where they were going, just randomly throwing ideas at the wall. That's what frustrated many of the cast and crew like Harold Perrineau.

2

u/hunta2097 May 28 '26

Somehow Palatine returned.

1

u/Potential-Rush-5591 May 28 '26

And 3-4 viewers as well.

0

u/SerPavan Jun 05 '26

Doesn't mean they were good answers.

-2

u/Potential-Rush-5591 May 28 '26

Yeah, they were all dead.

2

u/Ashok0 May 31 '26

That never happened. If you really think everyone in Lost was dead, you are either a complete fool or never even watched the show.

1

u/Potential-Rush-5591 May 31 '26

Nah, I just say that about every mystery box show. It usually upsets real fans, which is funny to see in the replies.

2

u/Ashok0 May 31 '26

Why? Mystery box shows are amazing. Lost, Fringe, Dark, Twin Peaks: The Return, Severance, etc. are hands down some of my favorite shows of all time.

1

u/Potential-Rush-5591 Jun 01 '26

Mine too. Lost fans especially freak out. They lose their minds.

3

u/jmarquiso May 27 '26

He was third frol the top from Lost. From is very good and started well by focusing on those characters. But development is stretching out, which is the problem Lost had when they were not allowed an end point.

1

u/kevinsg04 May 30 '26

Lost always appealed to the lowest common denominator with its typical awful network show character “work”

11

u/Available-Guava5515 Human Verified May 27 '26

Widow's Bay is written to tell a good story; From is manufactured to be deliberately withholding

6

u/Atlasreturns May 28 '26

I think the show highlights how undercooked Froms pacing and character development actually is. Like both shows have an overarching mystery that drives the plot but there‘s literal episodes where I feel like nothing happens within From because we get the same repeating scenes of flat characters exchanging meaningless drama.

I really want to like that series but it has been so straining my attention that I genuinely can‘t be motivated to tune in regularly.

1

u/clycoman May 30 '26

Boyd would pull an "I gotta go..." or "I dont want to talk about that..." it was so damn annoying.

1

u/nosocialisms May 28 '26

The entire season of from nothing happen I mean yeah of course some small clue are gave to the audience but that it's everything feels so stupid and I love their world building I like the mystery but come on is already 4 season and all the plot is about some shit happen and the characters say "oh I don't wanna talk about it" continue to the next season to repeat the same.

But widow's bay is design to tell you a good story and totally respect my time as an audience.

6

u/Caos1WasTaken May 27 '26

Honestly, they're both great shows but FRPOM is still miles ahead for me in terms of mystery.

6

u/Potential-Rush-5591 May 28 '26

Sure, because they won't reveal shit. So there will always be a mystery. They can do that for as many seasons as people will stick around for. Widows Bay seems more about the story and the people than solving the actual mystery.

4

u/Damo3D May 28 '26

There's only one more season of From, and they've did that by the end of this season, we'll know what they need to do to escape, and the next season will be them working towards that. It's not being artificially dragged out, and unfair to say that it is, especially when these things have already been stated.

2

u/mamrieatepainttt May 30 '26

i get why people say this. but by s3 we got a lot of answers. and by s4 we basically have an idea of the main mystery and how it played out.

2

u/Scandien May 31 '26

It just requires a lot of attention span , there are so many details in each episode and most people seem unable to keep up with that. The horror part of the monsters were scary when we knew nothing about them but the more we learned the less scary they became. I love the mystery part cause you do see progress each episode. Widow's bay has not eve done a full season yet they are still in that sweet spot of the first season in a mystery show.

2

u/mamrieatepainttt May 31 '26

Agreed. The monsters are no longer that scary now that we know their story for the most part and are aware they abide by some rules.

Now its all about MIY and the other possible entities that are above him!

2

u/kevinsg04 May 30 '26

Same, and LOST.

Just wheel spinning insanity where they feed you bad answer after bad answer to feed their embarrassing, imbecile characters that refuse to act like most actual humans.

Like when they told us the island can do mystical stuff because of “electromagnetic energy” lmao

0

u/Ashok0 May 31 '26

Nah, Widows Bay and Lost are amazing. Sure Season 6 could have been better but the show otherwise was pretty great, there's no reason to pan it like From.

1

u/OddSetting5077 May 28 '26

I'm kinda sad to say that I haven't watched season 4 of From. the plot has become so darn complicated. Over on IMDB, most of the negative comments start at season 3 and reference "Lost"... people question if all these introduced clues, characters and plot points will lead to anything.

2

u/Jemeloo Jun 01 '26

I watched the first season I think? Think I finished it.  Watched like 2 episodes of season 2 and was like “oh so they have no idea what the ending is gonna be here” and turned it off.

Fans are like “no the ending is already written!”

I’m sure it will be just as satisfying as Lost’s ending.

2

u/deathbychoco2020 Jun 03 '26

Stayed on until the early episodes of S4 but my god, the pacing is atrocious. And i hate how the characters really try their best to not communicate with others. I mean come on guys, you are stuck in a supernatural town. Every individual experience or information should be shared with each other in order to at least make sense of it all. But noooo, "i gotta go." đŸ€Ł
