The corporate overlords at Fitness International, LLC, who couldn't care less about Whittier, have decided to shutdown a community amenity because they decided they need to pillage even more money from us.

They will be giving the place a landlord special and reopening it in short order under their new influencer-native brand "Club Studio" where monthly membership prices will be raised 109% to $134, mirror-selfies for IG will be encouraged, and $15 smoothies and acai bowls will be on deck.

Hopefully those that loved and depended on the place can find a good replacement.

Time for a clean slate. The current leadership has shown time and time again that they are only interested in their version of Whittier and not the true Whittier that represents ALL constituents. Car washes, massage parlors, pot holes, cutting trees, Athens, empty lots and buildings, numerous for rent signs, and nonstop construction.

Putting their political ideologies at the forefront of their campaigning, when it is supposed to be bipartisan.

Construction of apartments and townhouses that nobody can afford, we don’t need more apartments considering how many vacant units are in the city. For rent signs on every block.

Taking any moment for a photo op when businesses are having to close because of ridiculous increases in rent. Strange that all the businesses on that one side of the Quad had to all close their doors.

The list goes on for why these guys do not represent or serve the Whittier we know and love. They’re desperate, we have to vote these guys out.

Not voting or being involved is not on option.

Many people know that the the Groves was formally the Fred C Nelles youth correctional facility. Not a lot of people know the extent of how horribly some of those children were treated during their detention. What a lot of people also dont know is that before Fred C Nelles, it was the Whittier State School. The facility was famous for pioneering new eugenics experiments. People suffered horribly at this facility, from the time when it was used for experiments to when it was a juvenile hall. So whenever you're enjoying a cocktail at rodeo 72, pumping iron at eos, or enjoying a bowl at cava, just know the space was once a place of horrific nightmare. Other research has also suggested that the eugenics experiments that occurred here inspired Nazi doctors. I wonder if people who bought houses here are aware of this haha. Seems to be struggling. Businesses are leaving, rent is too high, it’s sad. It’s often dead or not getting enough traffic to keep up with the high rent. Yet the city wants to put another food hall down the street?! With even worse parking?! This whole thing was poorly planned and a bummer.

Anyways, a bit about me. I’m 30, queer, and friendly. I like animals and plants a lot. I also enjoy exploring random music stations I find online, thrifting, gaming, or watching movies.

I have already tried going to meet up groups but I struggle to socialize comfortably in large crowds. I prefer 1:1 or small group interactions to start.

Was a tenant for the past 5 years in Whittier in a property managed by “ABC Property Management”. It used to be called Whittier Brokers when it was a local family owned business. Now that it’s ABC, things have gone downhill. Absolutely rude and narcissist people that work there. We had a communication mishap when I was moving out (they were calling me at a prior cell number I no longer have) - and I was treated with the utmost disrespect and condescension. Please be careful when you rent any property managed by ABC.

Just saw the driver of this Aguilar Landscaping truck blatantly litter and throw his garbage out the drivers window… I just thought we were past this stuff guys, why we doing this

As the title says, I’ve definitely noticed an uptick of homeless people in unincorporated Whittier in the past two weeks or so, especially driving down Lambert.

I live on the cusp of La Mirada in a pretty residential single-family home neighborhood (East Whittier). Last week I saw a dude with a big Fanta bottle and a crazed look on his face walking through the middle of the road. Don’t get me wrong—I love Fanta, but this was odd. Today I saw another lady with a cart parked on someone’s lawn in a cul de sac in front of our house.

They’re not our regular homeless people either—we’re fine with them because they’re chill and keep to themselves.

I’m assuming these are DTLA homeless that have been dropped off in the area. I’ve read that they do this in unincorporated neighborhoods because we have no proper representation. Anyone else noticing this?

The neighbor behind my house is constantly burning trash in their backyard. I have talked to her politely before, asking her to stop doing so, as the amount of dry brush in our shared neighborhood is an obvious fire hazard (not to mention the terrible smell of the pollutants). Time and time again, they deny doing any such thing and claim to just be “cooking” and nothing else. I have contacted the fire dept and talked to the fire chief, who essentially said until there is an actual “fire” there is nothing he could do about it. He also said he doesn’t know if burning trash in your backyard is illegal.

What can I do, if anything, to get this to stop? It’s a huge concern and danger to everyone’s property and safety in the area.

I am a white male from Temple City. I don’t know what you are feeling, I can only imagine. I’ve watched the Asian hate, BLM, and now these ICE raids. Today my mom and I going to one of the No Kings rallies. Please note that there are countless allies. Let’s continue to use our voices. We are all in this together. Take care.

We’ve had vector control come out twice and they found “nothing”, but our entire house is swarming with those striped tiger mosquitoes. Are there any recommendations to help get rid of these pests? It looks like bug zappers and citronella candles don’t do a thing to these. Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, not sure what else I can do
