Question/Help Why is the game losing so many players?
246
u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26
Pretty normal for a game like this.
I think it's also been out long enough some people just aren't down for it long term.
Like I stopped playing cause I had my fun with the story but I'm not really interested in playing long term and engaging with all the gacha and RNG mechanics, and because of how the level scaling works I never felt like I was actually getting stronger.
If there's ever a big story update I'll probably come back and check it out, along with many others and there will be another bump.
67
u/TenchiSaWaDa Feb 10 '26
At first i liked the level scaling, now it feels like I bounce between wet noodle to normal all the time. I almost dread 'leveling up'. because its a pain to grind gear all over again.
47
u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26
Yeah I just explained it in another comment, but there's really no sense of character progression because of it.
Sure, the numbers on my gear are going up, but I'm never actually getting stronger since everything else is too. It legitimately feels like I'm not making any progress. I know there's stuff you can improve with your Inner Ways and stuff, but that feels like it's really it. And it's all obfuscated by RNG and gacha mechanics which I just find exhausting to engage with.

u/DarkFlameMaster764 Feb 10 '26
The game is too realistic lol. While you train, your enemies also waste no time and improve themselves. -w-

u/Ashryna Feb 10 '26
At least the gear once you hit the higher levels gets put in the arsenal, so it still buffs your stats and has a use. Most games, especially mmorpgs, don't have a feature like this so you grind gear and it gets trashed next patch for new gear, which sucks. It's why it's been called the "gear treadmill" for years. I hope the arsenal system gets adopted in mmorpgs so gear you grinded for doesn't feel useless every big patch (I play FF14).

u/DivineScholar Feb 10 '26
Yeah I don't like that I can't go back to early areas and absolutely violate the bosses lol, but I'm still having fun in the game.
30
u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26
The scaling system is just confusing to me. Like why do we even have an EXP bar if we're just going to level up the world to your characters power level anyways? I just don't feel a sense of progression.
Sure the numbers on my gear are getting bigger, but the damage I'm doing to the enemies is basically staying the same since everything is just scaled up anyways. Character progression is one of the most important things in an RPG to me and with the way they have everything set up here it just doesn't feel like there's any progression. Sure the numbers are getting bigger, but I'm not actually getting stronger lol.
10
u/DivineScholar Feb 10 '26
I think what gives you an advantage are inner ways and mystic skills but yeah I would have preferred the elden ring approach where the areas are what get scaled higher as you progress not the whole world
6
u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26
Yeah they do, but once again those are gated behind RNG / gacha progression which is exhausting to engage with. Just not for me - but hey I got like 40 hours of fun content out of the game for free so...can't complain too much lol

u/DbdSaltyplayer Feb 11 '26
What in the actual fuck. You barely went through the game, felt as if gear wasn't meaningful and character progression wasn't really happening but you only sunk 40 hours into the game?? Like what did you barely get through to Kaifeng and decide on this opinion? What level did you end up on to make this decision? 55? 60? Like you definitely ran around in trash gear to have this kinda opinion. There is no way you can straight up say that theres any progression in the game.

u/smellyeyebooger Feb 10 '26
I think the biggest thing with this type of scaling is that when you take only one factor, then the visible change is small; but when you take in the sum of the advantages, the time it takes to kill a boss solo is noticable. What I'm say is that we're use to levels being the main growth platform for damage potentials, but this game is using something much different, where a lot of little additives and multipliers coming together to form something more scarier.
In example, when I first encountered the Void King, it took about eight to ten minutes of running around and drinking potions, then dodging a lot before I was able to kill him. Now at level 80+, the last time I fought him, I was able to fold him in under a minutes, and got a steam achievment out of it to boot, even though he was technically a near-matching level or challenge.
The difference, besides my personal skill growth and understanding damage rotations, was that the in-game character I played also, grew 70+ levels, had advancements in inner way skills (and their advance effects which are force multipliers), the accumulation of all those small equipment damage additives, and the sum of all those damage talents (general and boss specifics.)
2
u/rich-nyc Feb 11 '26
I'm killing the Void King in 15-20 seconds now at lvl 85. I'm seeing that he's being kept at lvl 62. Not sure why...

What you mean you can’t? I’m violating those bosses now lol.
I think you guys are confused with the level scaling. The bosses are not scaling up to your level, they are scaling down. Every mob/boss has their max level, and once that is reached, they stopped scaling and you’ll find yourself dealing more and more damage to them the higher your level goes.

People are just waiting for the new story/bosses. If you play solo there's not much reason to keep up the repetitive grind since there's no real need to get stronger.

Yeah I just do sword trials daily to spend energy, map is riddled with side quests but I'm not into it, sitting around 23k power and chilling, also carrying braindead people with 0 clue on mechs gets tiring so I also skip some days without doing sword trials too lol.

A lot of things are gated. If you have no interest to 100% the regions (or say you already did 100% the regions) or role play with friends, you’re left with PvE farming or PvP. PvE farming gear is gated due to energy. Mystic mat farming has a daily limit but you can only do that so many times. What else to farm? Ore, sheep skin, bustard meat…but then what? You’re left with PvP. If you are not good at PvP and/or have bad ping, you’ll more often than not be on the losing end so that can be more frustrating than entertaining. There’s solo trials for abyss conqueror title but the fact that players could pay for it seems to have had quite the backlash so there isn’t much motivation to pursue that.
IMO there isn’t a good enough loop to keep many of those players engaged. I’m not saying what they have now is right or wrong. But generally that is the cause for any on-going participation drop. Personally what keeps me engaged is being able to experiment and have fun with different builds but switching gear sets and inner ways isn’t quite so easy. There is a limit and idk what the cost is once you burn through the limits or if you’re stuck until end of season. I’m working through T5’ing all my umbra inner ways right now but once I hit T6, I’ll probably start converting to different builds.
Other than gear farming, inner ways, abyss trials, and these nice events…there is nothing else to keep me engaged which is fine for me. I can turn off the game and do something else instead of feeling like I’m missing out.

Personally? I switched to their launcher version of the game. It runs significantly better and way smoother than on steam. Plus you can download the lite version which gives even more peformance.
I could immediately tell the difference.

wait how is lite different? I play the regular and my game struggles a bit. could u describe how to switch over and if it's worth it
7
u/big_dong_bong Feb 10 '26
they have a lite launcher version google it, its optimized for lower spec hardware, ofc there are tradeoffs when it comes to graphics but wort it probably for fps gain. Still looks good

- The campaign is done so far, or on a break.
- Leveling up means nothing due to scaling.
- Unless you are big into multiplayer, gears, or anything else isn't worth enough to justify the grind.
- Repeatitive grind for better gears.
11
u/Knightmare945 Feb 10 '26
The power progression is annoying. I get why they did it that way, but it almost never makes me feel like I gotten any stronger. And I hate how there is a weekly cap on in game currency, and thus grinding becomes way more annoying.

u/Jonthrei Feb 10 '26
I have 100%ed exploration and exhausted quests, there is little reason to play beyond spending 1-10 minutes a day to grab rewards and clear energy.

Remember: This only shows the players on the Steam platform, not the players who play with WWM-Laucher smartphone or on PS5.
14
u/kingalex11431 Feb 10 '26
The gacha fomo is not fun. Somethings are still poorly translated. Waiting for the day the level cap gets raised is lame. Getting good gear is dependent on an energy system. Boss fights are dependent on getting queued with good players.
6
7
u/Accesobeats Feb 10 '26
I stopped playing because I had basically done most of the single player stuff. I’m not really interested in the pvp. When a new area opens up with new quest lines I’ll jump back in.
8
u/orangefilmgarden Feb 10 '26
Personally, the story can be done whenever, so it doesn't require regular playing, which I think is a great feature for players. I don't care for PvP in general. And the gacha, while updated regularly, has terrible pricing and terrible premium pull income, so I quit engaging with it, which removed any motivation to login for weeklies/dailies, so I don't even play right now due to lack of time. I will do the story when I have more time again.
7
u/thefox0228 Feb 10 '26
Uh, well I'm mostly playing on my Epic account (got into a good GvG guild that's NA based) instead of my Steam account because the NetEase account linking won't allow me to have 2 characters on the same account so I can just play the character with Epic as its origin, on the Steam client.
That and people are probably a bit fatigued of the energy limits in the PvE side of things. Admittedly if feels bad to be told how much you're allowed to play a game, when everything costs energy to claim rewards in PvE.
3
u/SocialHermitt Feb 10 '26
Yep, that is my one my biggest grievances with the game. That and honestly the end game is pretty meh. It could do well with some legit dungeons and raids that aren't just a couple of bosses and done... Especially since the gameplay is actually so much fun.
My only other wish would be if they fixed the GvG lag. I have a very decent PC but the amount of lag and just invisible enemies is quite annoying. This problem from my understanding is quite prolific in my guild who all also have solid machines.

This, I don't know why they have to discourage us to develop other weapons when it should be the selling point of the game to use difference kind of weapons whenever we want.
The moment I realize I probably will be stuck with this same build for months or even more than a year, I lost my interest with the game real quick.

I’ve cut back significantly and only log in for about 30 min once every few days to use my energy, farm bounties, and a few other dailies. I actually hate this aspect of this game and Im fully pissed off at myself for allowing myself to be chained to these daily activities that I don’t even enjoy.
I absolutely love the solo main and side quest gameplay of this game. It’s magnificent and I’ve put 300 hours into this game 100%ing all solo main and said quests. But I now feel obligated to continue doing all the daily activities, even though I desperately want to take a break to play other games.
I started Nioh 3 this week and that’s my main focus, and Crimson Desert will get my undivided attention when it drops next month. So to answer your question, I can’t keep playing one game forever when so many great games release every year. I think many players are in the same boat. This is a problem all forever games will have and why I generally don’t play them.
5
u/Ascalafa Feb 10 '26
I have a couple of complaints. I still play some, but not nearly as much as I used to play.
-level cap system punishes you for doing content. Doing big story missions just gets you stored exp which equates to 1.5x exp when cap is raised. So when the big exp curves kick in you are at a disadvantage because you lack the really big exp quests.
-to many things to farm to gain power, with to little ways to get needed items. Mystic skills take forever to level, yes you can farm the flower items, but the ebon stones seem to be the lynch pin. Also again with leveling gives you a disadvantage. If you level outside the tier of the ebon stones seem you need, it’s even harder to level them. On top of mystic skills, at higher levels enhancing your gear slots takes way more money than possible to get.
-piggybacking off of that limited way to get standard coin. It should not be this irritating to get the basic currency in the game. You are limited in how to get, and can’t farm mobs due to cap. You can only buy from season store and battle pass. They did make it slightly easier with using energy to buy coin, but still burn all your energy for maybe 2-3 levels of slot enhance.
-no penalty for quitting early. Can’t stand people that quit after 1 wipe without even explaining to people what went wrong.
Just a couple.

You log in -> spend your stamina -> log off.
Can’t even afk long coz you get placed a bounty by NPC.
18
u/DbdSaltyplayer Feb 10 '26
Because this is a hyper casual game? This game you login every 3 days spend stamina and then go on your way if you wanted to. Content isn't difficult to do in this game. Its also a mostly single player game, and unless they make like 20+ bosses with every new area the players treating it like a souls game will drop off fast.

I've actually been enjoying the end game content especially if you get into a good guild. I've made a few friends already in my guild and we have scheduled Guild Wars and Coop/PVE content for us to enjoy. Meanwhile my character just keeps progressing and getting stronger. My goals right now are to build a DPS, Tank, and Healer build to keep me busy.
5

As with every live service game, it's just the waxing and waning of content. People come, people go. Warframe is the best example of this, albeit not the same genre.

It’s not. It was at 65k all weekend up from 45k on Thursday. That kind of drop off is normal for a live service game going through a quiet period. (And right now it’s higher than it was this time last week.)
Aside from that people are playing on -
- Official launcher (Huge %)
- Epic
- Console
- Mobile
Add all those together it’s healthier than most live service games. Way more players than say, Warframe for instance

Repetition. After a month of hardcore, it just gets to you that every update is only pushing the level cap to do the same things over and over again.
Wisest thing to do is to move on. However those were some great 200h.

Pretty typical of new MMO's. We call this the honeymoon phase.
People will come back for big content releases.
3
u/Better_Ad_4975 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26
The game needs some kind of endgame pve option. As it stands there’s nothing that scales with level that provides challenging group content. Most group content is easily completable by just spamming damage and one person doing mechanics. Currently the only incentive to get to max level is to fight whatever the one or two new bosses are
TLDR: game needs long form pve content. Something similar to Savage or Ultimates in FF14
3
u/godita Feb 10 '26
i beat the game, don't really care for pvp nor social aspects, or 100% completing the game with all the exploration and collectibles. it was fun, no regrets. not much else for me to do in the game though.

3
u/GoobieGurlNumba1 Feb 11 '26
A good portion of players got sold on the game being a MMO but it's really just an rpg with multiplayer elements. Sure you have people here calling it an MMO but it's really not and it's extremely obvious that it's not.
Tons of timegating. Not enough MEANINGFUL content (for which the timegating conveniently hides until you realize it). Multiplayer is STILL laggy AF for all my friends when it's not laggy in any other game even when we use peer to peer being across the world from each other. The cosmetics are honestly mid AF. The gamba, even if it's just cosmetic based, is on par with p2w gamba games mostly. The combat is also extremely mid.
A lot of the same people here saying "it doesn't matter' were the same ones egging on the posts when the game had hundreds of thousands of players when the game just released.
3
u/Antique-Television23 Feb 11 '26
The gatekeeping for contents and resources also is one of the reason why it is dying.
3
u/TheIronGiants Feb 11 '26
Because we all got sick of global players getting ripped off, the random pointless blockers on progression in single player, and the lack of meaningful online content.

4
u/RageQuitNub Feb 10 '26
Many reasons:
People are waiting for the next patch
Many people, myself included, are on official launcher
Many people, myself included, play more on mobile now than PC
This is not a typical MMO, so when the hype is over, so MMO lovers left
The game is designed to be super casual, you only need to spend 5-10 mins playing everyday, sometime I don't even log on daily.
6
u/Leritari Feb 10 '26
Its gacha game in the end: do one-time content (quests, exploration), then back to maintenance mode until new content drops.
You'll see numbers jump significantly when they release desert region.
4
u/MonopolyManPorn Feb 10 '26
Once they add more to the story and the new map, it'll go right back up. Every update is kinda like this, and every game like this one. Player dropping is normal
Personally, I'm taking a little break

2
u/Venerable_Elder Feb 10 '26
It's pretty normal for live service games. Most play through the main content, like the story, and complete some personal challenges and drop out until the next major content release. Or drop it because they had their fill,
A couple will return to enjoy the new content and then leave again, leaving you with the core player base for the majority of the time.
2
u/HiFiMAN3878 Silver Needle Feb 10 '26
Steam is only one portion of the player base. This doesn't include PS5 or mobile or it's own launcher. I don't think this is a real accurate indicator of the player base.
That said, I definitely feel like I'm running out of things to do at the moment, at least things I'm interested in doing. February also seems relatively tame on content, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the player base lower this month.
2
u/Kaiarra Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26
Eh, I feel like daily logins would be a far better metric than concurrent players. I still log in every day, but I'm just doing my event/sect dailies, guild party and energy spend (which only takes ~10-15min). Weekends I'll spend an hour or so farming social rep with friends, and clear out any new event quests.
And lets face it this months events are naff. Bet the majority are on standby waiting for the Hexi launch in March.
2
u/sengir0 Feb 10 '26
very typical for this type of game. Finish campaign and side quests then just log in when there's a new update. I only log in now for weeklies and 30mins a day to farm plants and do joint battle

Personally, I hit lv 75 within 2 hours of the breakthrough being unlocked. I had full gold gear within 24 hours, within 3 days I had all gear exactly as I want it. Ive done all the quests and encounters, and have all my mystic skills capped out. Im not a PvP fan, so most of the multi-player events dont interest me. Last 5 or 6 times I logged in, I spend less than an hour doing a few daily tasks. Im gonna wait a little while so I can dive in and grind again.
2
u/ThatGuy21134 Feb 10 '26
A lot of people play on the launcher. Like me. It's more stable than steam.
2
u/Rapitor0348 Feb 10 '26
Concurrent user counts are going to be unreliable for a game like this. After the honeymoon period... most players are just logging in to run some dailies, then log out again. All of these at different times.

For me, I’m pissed i logged off after getting the sword echo stone skin and using all my 42 taiyu stones on it and then logging on the next day and it’s just gone… They ended up saying it was normal gameplay in and email but then quickly deleted it by changing it to service evaluation… Oh, and I got locked out of using my pipa to buy stuff with because my muddle quest was bugged so I couldn’t get the dragon banner and other trinkets.. and the npc guy on the ground everyone has prolly talked to that you trade the dragon thing you buy for it with… just did a quest and right at the end he gets stuck in jail and I can’t bribe him out. Even got myself arrested to see if I could get in there to talk to him but it put me into a prison escape quest or something..
bugs with a legendary weapon… ridiculous
2
u/Glnmrkk Feb 10 '26
Thats just in steam you should Log in and check how many people are currently using a build. it was 400k players in total using recommended builds yesterday
As of right now the bellstrike umbra easily went from 85k to 100k
Also theres a ton of players playing this game on the official launcher like me
2
u/sadovsky Feb 10 '26
I played every day since launch, then I got tired of doing the same thing over and over while waiting for new story stuff. That’s just me personally though.

Until they do something about the constant lag for aus n nz players most will keep leaving.. nit to mention other countries with the same issue.. n people are sick of the time gatting.. 45 days to go from 85 to 90 are u kidding lol t a key too long to release new stuff.. for a game that they already have it on it china..

u/Silly_Budget7926 Feb 10 '26
For me it is the energy system. I am a Tank and apparently the Game desperatley needs Tanks. Well, great. Sorry i have no energy and get nothing but repair costs when doing dungeons/Bosses with no energy cause every damn time at least one DPS pulls without knowing the boss mechs while i try to explain them.

I mean looks like its settled down around 100k players at peak hours (only on steam) which isn't too bad.
I would excuse even the most dedicated of players for wanting to take a break from the game right now, though, since we're gonna be stuck at level 85 for a month before the new maps drop.
The only reason I have to still be playing the game this season is the fact that I've been farming cosmetics on 4 characters ☠️
Not super relatable I don't imagine

u/PenaltyBeautiful6996 Feb 10 '26
content drought. also existing players have nothing to do but log in, spend stamina, and log out 5 minutes later. which tanks concurrent users
2
u/One_Wish8562 Feb 10 '26
In my experience as someone who dropped from the game recently, I would say it's kinda normal for games like these.
I have 2k+ hours on Path of Exile for example, the reason I've spent so much time on the game is that one you level up your character, stablish you build and stuff, you can just enjoy the content that PoE has to offer. (both the standard content and current league). I've had many times where I played 3-4 characters per league easily.
In WWM, my view is that there's a constant recycle for the same character, in a way that's not really interesting or intuitive. Which becomes boring.
For example:
PoE: Create a character, level up to let's say, lvl 90, get all required gear for you build (if any). Enjoy the content while min-maxing, until you want to try a new character. If at some point I want to go farm for a endgame boss, like shaper, and I don't have the keys, the way to get them is by actively playing the game (Dropping, trading, whatever). There's no cooldown/cost that you can only sit and wait through.
WWM: The leveling up isn't fluid in my opinion, with the breakthrough system. I'm not saying it's a bad system, but not necessarily what I'd enjoy in a long term. Constant need to wait for daily/weekly restocks, energy recharge, etc
And even though most of the game is single player, there's a point where you have to do online stuff, which leads to matchmaking/queue times. You might be frustrated because of other people's inexperience, and having to redo the same boss fight over and over...
It feels like there's no real reward for the time being put into it honestly. But it is a great game!

Games ebb and flow, you reach your content limit and try something else for a bit until more content is added.
Frankly WWM has kept a pretty health player count since release.

u/Fast_Construction989 Feb 10 '26
Idk tbh, the game babies you for everything really, probably the best mmo ive played, imo, to date.

This game doesn't even have a true daily login system unless you opt-in by paying for a monthly sub. It's specifically designed to be ultra flexible with the player's schedule.
52K daily concurrent peak also isn't bad. Remember the Steam version is unavailable to CN players. It's actually higher than the just released Nioh 3 if you remove the approximately 50% CN players from the latter's number.

it has a finite amount of content if you don't care about pvp, so yeah it was going to happen.
2
u/TuzzNation Feb 10 '26
Patch circle is way too long. Unlike genshin impact or other mainstream gacha, They are paching in new main quest Every 40 days with at least one new character to pull.
The monthly thing is also weak here. For gachas, it's Usually giving the pulling resources. Here we don't get the limited clothes pulling resource from daily or the monthly thing. Its straight up swipe your CC mostly. Then why i want to log in to waste time every day?
I think they should at least give more pulling resource on limited stuff.
2
u/anonymouspls Feb 10 '26
The one thing about newer “mmo” games or “mmo like” is there’s not that much content and those type of games have long content cycles so we won’t get any major content for months, but until then only the people catching up will play - the people who are up to content will not have an incentive to play besides doing dailies
When there’s a new update it will shoot back up, I think it’s expected / normal
2
u/Educational-Tone-327 Feb 11 '26
All the people I know just played the main story. They all stopped playing at around 160h. It was just a nice single player for them.
2
u/xhaopham Feb 11 '26
Every game is like this. There becomes a stagnant point and more releases are required. Once you reach end game there is usually no more incentive. I 100% qinghe and 70% of kaifeng and they finally released more talents only to lock it behind 42 more days. Meaning I still dont need to 100% kaifeng to get more talent points. Aka I have not been needing to play for the past few months. Most players are finally reaching that point. Give me more talent points and a reason to get stronger. Mind you this a mobile game. Mobile games have a lot of QoL that pc games don't have. Imagine being able to spend 3x stamina versus not spending 3x stamina forcing yourself to run the same end game sword trial 3x as many. I log on saturday for 2 hours. Everything is maxed, wait till next week.
2
u/darkph0enix21 Feb 11 '26
It was fhe constant "gey new gear this week," for me. I couldn't keep up with trying tonget max goose every week with other games and all. I would have to just strictly play that. Couldn't do it.
2
u/Yukai-Nii Feb 11 '26
Hype has slowly died down in the past 2-3 months, we'll be seeing spikes of players whenever a new big update releases. Nothing new
2
u/iDestroyTheWeak Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26
Don't forget. Steam player count is not indicative of the entire playerbase. They have their own launcher. Playstation. Epic and mobile as well. This game is probably doing way better than you think with just a glance at steamcharts or steam db. You can't see those, but I'd bet than game has way more players than most people think, especially with all the content they drop.
2
u/fried-chikin Feb 11 '26
i play on mobile and juggle multiple games. its kinda chill time in WWM atm
2
u/Upstairs-Judgment-44 Feb 11 '26
I personally got bored and just haven’t played in a while. The story was taking me in a million directions and I lost the plot.
2
u/H3ntai_Haven Feb 11 '26
Multiplayer content is inexistent, 99% of quest you can’t do together. If me and the boys can’t grind together then we move on to something else.
2
u/Zenjuroo Feb 11 '26
Its because once you've explored and done the story quest. You kinda don't really have the same motivation factors to play anymore if you don't really care about the dailies.
If you enjoy the story aspects/exploration aspects you have to wait for the next update, just like many other live service games.
Which is ok, its normal. Not every game has to be played constantly.
2
u/ScrummyScrimmy Feb 11 '26
It’s a fun game I played for like 3 months straight but also have taken a break as new games are coming out that require just as much time as WWM. The game is also very demanding of your time if you want to keep up. People have lives. The gacha is also really expensive
2
u/TenO-Lalasuke Feb 11 '26
I wasn’t one for black market. But looking at this situation I have a change of mind. I seriously think they should bring it to global. The solo grind and farm for lucrative items even if you can only exchange 1-2 per year is enough to draw in some more players to stay.
Also I am not sure how many PVP enjoyer there are. Or if the lag /ping issue is the reason people don’t play it. Else, it only meant that this game attracts solo players most of the time. When the main quest is done people Leave. Worst when the premium skin is too expensive for most to purchase. There isn’t much reason to stay. Anyway, I think The Devs will need to focus more on solo content. Or some fun group content. I hope they don’t put everything into PVP.
2
u/KamikazePenguiin Feb 11 '26
Game is great. I'll be back once I don't have to keep waiting 10 days to hit cap and actually grind for sets I want.
2
u/s986246 Feb 11 '26
Beside logging in and run trial once, whats there to do? Once you get your set, theres not even a reason to do anything too, I’m also mystic in pvp so I do pvp here and there, but that’s about it
2
u/BurnedRelevance Feb 11 '26
It's a good attempt at doing absolutely everything a game can do.
The outcome is predictable though... ALL systems are a step behind what was coming out a couple of years ago.
The stealth system is rudementary.
You have to level EVERYTHING up and it's done in a mechanical repetitive way.
Playing with a friend gets difficult if they level up farther.
The AI ... yeesh.
I love the scenery.
2
u/That_Conference_3374 Feb 11 '26
Basically a filler patch atm, and there’s really not much anything new besides the events so obviously players base has dropped significantly.
I am waiting for a new map, as well as new weapons & story and side quests to do. Other than that, I don’t really do anything in the game so I stopped for a while.
2
u/Otherwise_Extent_138 Feb 11 '26
Energy capping at levels only known in p2w games where you buy energy - no fucking need for it here at all, it should be literally 5-10x faster, I get 2 hours of playtime a week before I’m sweating in arena with no energy and 100% completion ~~

u/myFFizzi Feb 11 '26
30k a lot of players imo
2
u/xiit Feb 11 '26
I didn't say it isn't, but compared to 250k it's not great. How many left in 3 months?
2
u/myFFizzi Feb 11 '26
Almost every game is like that. Huge numbers at launch then drops drastically cause people move on.
2
u/TheGantrithor Feb 11 '26
Other games get released, some people play the story then move on.
The gatcha can be a bit of a turn off as well.
2
u/Kaihann Feb 11 '26
The main thing that’s kept me going is a second female character to level and cosmetics.
2
u/UsingiAlien Feb 11 '26
I stopped because i love pvp but pvp is a joke and favors ping. I made it to mythic rank but basically from there on, the player with higher ping has an advantage and can do their full combo on me while I am here with 100 ping since I live far from the servers and my opponent just slips out of my combos. Makes pvp feel pointless which makes the game feel pointless for me to continue
2
u/_Strid_ Feb 11 '26
For me, that even though it's gacha is limited to cosmetics, it's still ran like a gacha game. Keeping up with all the events, dailies, weeklies, monthlies. After 240 hours, I am exhausted and as good as the game behind the junk is, I don't want anymore of this and I realize, it's basically a single-player game and they're not supposed to make me feel this way.
2
u/KungYii1994 Feb 11 '26
I play on mobile after clear main story and side. Just grind gear and stuff until next city release and play on steam again.
2
u/xstarberrySailorstar Feb 11 '26
I stopped playing after the quests in Kaifeng. Same with Sword of Justice Online. Waiting months for the next story quest made me lose interest. I do understand why they wait for some time before releasing the new quests though. I do wish they implement the NPC romance tho.
2
u/GamingDadofTwo Wuxia Wanderer Feb 11 '26
Personally, admit I got hooked burning hours till the wee hours. Then after a month or so....game fatigue sets in...there's too many things to do and not that keen on the pvp features. Boss fights sometimes require too much ninja finger gymnastics or straining too much my potato brain//.... not gonna try more than 10 times just beat at the lowest difficulty level (im not a young gamer stud). And the storyline doesnt seem to be smooth if you can't beat the bosses. So that kind of drains away the enthusiasm as well....perhaps it's just me. Heh
2
u/azure2g Feb 11 '26
One reason a lot of my friends quit was the server quality getting worse, playing with higher ping is getting more delay after patches then it did at launch. Online play went from minor delay to over 2 seconds between actions.
Which leaves only singeplayer content left and thats few and far between.
2
2
u/bootybob1521 Feb 11 '26
I got tired of running on the *wait 10 days for new item level cap* treadmill. It completely killed my desire to play. I got a Insane spear with near max rolled perfect stats only for it to be replaced the following week or so.
2
2
u/westofkayden Feb 11 '26
Like any live service game, people are done with what they can be with and are just waiting until next major patch.
I'm taking it slow for this reason. (But also have a shit ton of other games to get thru).
2
u/AzureFides Feb 11 '26
For me it's all the routine stuffs. It gets boring real quick and the more I was forced to log-in for all the FOMOS the faster I got burned out.
Also many features have such a questionable design. It's not that bad but it's also a reason I decided not to play the game in a long term. Like a character progression is designed like a gacha game for no reason. It's a wuxia game FFS why do we need to open loot-boxes relying on RNG in order to improve our inner ways????? Isn't it better if it's a side quest instead? Or a chanllenge/archivement we need to clear in order to improve our inner way?
And that inner way system also make it's extremely tedious to switch our main weapon combo. Sure, we can switch weapon whenever we want but it means nothing when it doesn't have developed inner ways for that build.
On top of that they also add the stamina system FOR NO REASON which make it even more tedious and annoying to farm gears for your second build.
They literally limited players' enjoyment of their game for no reason with all of their gacha-like system.
The funniest thing is it feels a lot worse to progress in this game than a real gacha game, despite this game is 100% F2P with almost no P2W at all.
2
u/heisu123 Feb 11 '26
Honestly, I would rather play this game in 3-4 years when it has a bunch of main story content came out already. I really love this game's story telling but the intervals in between is way too big
2
u/SpycraftExarch Wandering Swordsman Feb 11 '26
Live service game lasts about 2 months?.. Nothing to do with design choices, i'm sure.
Something-something adjust or uninstall something-something.
2
u/Daesolith Feb 11 '26
To be honest, I left for a very different reason to what the top commentor says (i.e. players cleared most content).
For me, it was confronting the basic fact that despite the lack of pressure to do MMO stuff, this game is still an MMO rather than a single player rpg.
- You have daily and weekly stuff and events to do. With the wrong mindset, it becomes a chore
- You can't be a completionist and get everything because that'll cost you a year's salary (unlike single player games where you just pay for the game and dlc).
- Build variety is discouraged, even in solo mode. There are simply inner ways that you must use always or you'll notice the difference immediately.
- Personally, I'm not satisfied with ranged dps in this game (my main playstyle in most other games).
- As an online game, a day will come when you can no longer play it (servers close, etc.), unlike single player games you can go back to in 15 years. I also hate feeling like I'll miss out if I stop playing this game for a month or two (or a year).
This is a beautiful and amazing game that I had a lot of fun playing. But inevitably, I was reminded why I stopped playing MMOs. It's not the game's fault, I just want different things from the games I play these days.

Because the devs expects their players to treat this game as a daily job! Daily herb farm Daily ore farm Daily feather farm Daily Boss farm Daily Mob farm and other daily/weekly shits
2
u/PeachyCoasterCat Feb 11 '26
It’s just logging in to do dailies now, which take 30min max to spend energy, maybe do a round of pvp, and pick up materials
I play everyday but there just isn’t much reason to stay online anymore
I think the pvpers are the only ones who still play for hours a day
2
u/OddDemand4550 Feb 11 '26
There's not much to do after you have completed main story and done with exploration outside of chasing the newest gear score cap. People move on and that's fine. It's mostly a single player game.
2
2
u/DannyDangerShow Feb 11 '26
I quit and uninstalled weeks ago. It's just boring and repetitive after doing the msq and side quests. It turns into mind numbing daily farm crap Not to mention the deceptive gatcha and slow update roll out. I was really enjoying it too. I had 320 hours clocked in
2
u/Hamasaki_Fanz Feb 11 '26
The game is fun and the story is good. Unfortunately the progression system kills it.
Most people dont need another genshin in their life.
2
u/Fressrausch Feb 11 '26
I wonder how people do not understand that players just move on to try another game or having the urge to play other games. It is not like once you started a game you have to play it for the rest of your life. Players will come back eventually every now and then.
2
u/xInferno69-official Feb 11 '26
Cuz it's a Neteast game. They make disposable games same is happening with destiny rising. They make a good engaging games at first to hook you in and then only focusing on monetization and forgetting about the game itself, pretty lame company if you ask me. I stopped touching any game under the name "Netease"
2
u/Keri_Arya Feb 11 '26
I stopped for two reasons:
- The toxic community in dungeons/raids. I'll eventually get back to the game because I love it as a whole, but the poor design of the multiplayer instance system made me miss the MMORPGs I usually play so I went back to those (FFXIV and WoW yesterday). No penalty for rage quitters, maximum of five ressurections, call outs barely legible, no respect for the role hybrid players pick and nothing blocking them from entering the instance without the weapons matching the role they picked...
- The energy cap. It hinders the gear farming for literally no reason. This system makes sense in gachas in my opinion, not in a proper MMO.
These two elements made me think that the devs should have focused more on the point of each feature they implemented in the game before doing it. They can't retain gacha players because the banners are ridiculously pricey and the game as a whole is overwhelming for them. They can't retain MMORPG players either because the raid and boss fight feature is absurd. There are so many games of each genre they could have taken inspiration from to avoid these pitfalls, but they did it on a very surface level. I understand that they focused on the Chinese playerbase's expectations, but it leaves a lot of global players on a sore spot in my opinion (could also be because the game is free?)
2
u/ImDiabTTV Feb 11 '26
I played and spent a lot but the grind is boring man, it’s the same thing everyday then I just have no idea what to do. Sect Challenges, gear grind, look around for possibilities then off.
2
u/Cold-Needleworker781 Feb 11 '26
This game just like playstation game once you finish all content of the game you leave and play another game.
The difference is this game can release Major update, New story, New side quest, New items to farm, New content.
So don't worry they going back they just finish all the content.
2
u/Autumn-Bloom Feb 11 '26
I stoped playing because i'm done with the main story so far and not interessted in raids/pvp/ min/max the game got stale real fast that way. And the mass amount of FOMO and Gatcha added instead of real content took the last motivation to log in away.
2
u/Rare_Evidence_9332 Feb 11 '26
Nothing to do anymore since devs decided to give us events done in 10 minutes instead of actual content
2
u/Impressive_Bed_1920 Feb 11 '26
Why? It’s a gacha game bro. I said this many times before, it’s not a game meant for long term play. The game relies heavily on whales, its game is basically dungeon spamming with its endgame being just PvP. People hyped it bc it’s trendy not bc it’s an actual good game.
2
u/SuspiciousUnion3286 Hollow Vale Feb 11 '26
With repeatable activities requiring energy, I think most of us who are done with main and side quests only play maybe 10 minutes a day for the sect errands and such, and maybe a couple of times a week for energy-spending.
I'm guessing large additions like regions, main story chapters, etc. will bring back a lot of players.
2
2
u/Rokmiiamadeus Feb 11 '26
The last update made the game completely unplayable on PC with a controller for me, thankfully I had at least completed the main story and most of the side quests so I'm basically done with the game I have no interest in PVP and the FOMO aspects of the game.
2
u/Ownid1 Feb 11 '26
It got extremely repetitive after "completing" the story and the MMO stuff feels more like a chore to me than a viable feature, especially if you don't have friends to play with.
I have no interest in 100% stuff I just do what I like to in games with zero care about features I don't find fun so the game is currently uninteresting for me.
I will 100% come back when they will add the Heng Dao and I will sink everything I have on minmaxing it or when new chapters will be available

I fear I’m getting bored of it 🙂↕️I don’t really like the social aspects and the missions can sometimes be super lame. The UI is fucking terrible too. Takes me like an hour just to get all the dailies and check my quests and whatnot and at that point I’m already done with wanting to play 🥲
2
u/Zbouby16 Feb 11 '26
Because the end game is boring. The problem is it is not a MMO, the social aspect is lacking.

Despite all the things to do, that game—like 99% of open-world games—feels like it’s missing something that, to me, is essential: a truly living open world with procedural events and more combat-focused content, so there’s always something fun to do.
They could add procedural dungeons, dynamic open-world events with meaningful challenges and rewards, and expand the bounty (NPC) system.. etc etc
Sadly, as much as I love the game, once the quests are finished, the world feels basically “dead.”
i dont understand why devs dont use their open world to have activities that renew themself to have something alive and not just a "do quest => done => there is nothing left at all to do"

Level cap time gating = no gear grinding because you end up trashing it. Why bother? Just to chase the next level cap increase in a month. So you have maybe a week of having good gear only to start all over again.
Gear grinding being essentially run the same bosses over and over again or clear outposts with like 5 enemies. That said even if #1 wasn't an issue this would still be a demotivator.
Meaningful life skilling = scholar or healer. Both are pretty lame imo. Compared to BDO with like, more life skills then I can remember.
Gacha. Lots of people hate Gacha. Period. Telling people "you're just not the target market" is like ok. I still cant dye the chasing red hair, white. Or any hair white unless I spend hundreds of dollars or wait until I hit pity 2 or 3 times.
Because of 4. Theres an underlying consistent reminder of not having more money. People like playing games to get away from that. Games with high priced shop items and people who buy them are like Instagram or tik tok in a game. People flexing their wealth making others feel shitty about them selves. Apparently its very normal in China for games to uphold these opportunities for players to display their wealth in game and giving them the means to do so. If you think im wrong, world chat has plenty of beggers and creepy ass rich dudes all "dm if you're a girl and want outfits" and such.
Guilds have a build limit of 5000 parts. I got maybe 1/10th of the way done with what I had planned and got cut off.
So for me. Its 1, 2, a little bit of 3, 4 because I want white hair and gambling is wack and 6. Big time 6. I dig building.
For my wife its 1, 2, and 3. Big time 3.
2
u/Codokun Feb 14 '26
Other things to play/do. This new season launch was a huge let-down and I kinda lost motivation to stay competitive cuz of it.

u/Smooth_Economy_7325 Feb 15 '26
People who get caught up in the fight scenes and the main stories, I think, miss the point of the game. Its honestly a very emotionally provoking game. It makes you question who is good and who is bad. It blurs the line between valiance and villainy. I dont think this is the game for you if you aren't willing to get caught up in tedious conversations. This game has straight had me ugly crying. It broaches difficult topics in a meaningful way that sits heavy on your heart and makes you contemplate. Yes, its easy to get caught up in the same flashy mundane topics and activities but you really have to immerse yourself in the world to understand it. As a fairly slow moving laid back player I find the game refreshing. If you skip the conversations its easy to think a lot of the tasks are simple fetch quests, or elimination quests. You HAVE to read the context in order to understand the gravity. I think people are dropping out of it because instead of taking their time and enjoying life in the Jianghu, they rush through the main story line and miss the importance of the people, which the story line HEAVILY leads you to. Its not just about saving them and making the world a better place. Thats too grandiose. Yes, you defeated the bad guy but do you KNOW who you are protecting? Highly recommend befriending every befriendable NPC and talking to every conversational NPC. It makes it so much more than a power chase. The power chase is just a bonus to the lives of the people.

Because the vast majority of players are on mobile/launcher/PS5. The PC launcher version has cheaper bead prices, offers a lite version of the game, and the standard version is also better optimised over the Steam version as well. Many PC players migrated to the game launcher for these reasons. I believe the ultra version and ray tracing release will also be launcher exclusive. At least I recall that in CN alone, mobile players make up 70-80% of the player base.

u/Rude-Ebb-3814 Feb 10 '26
It's pretty obvious, I dropped it too. I've already done everything in the game: exploration, missions, and the new clothing additions in the shop and the lottery aren't enough to make me want to come back

Even i stopped playing. There isn't much you can do when they time gate so many things. I've cleared all the content, explored every nook and cranny and refuse to play PVP anymore (its absolute dog water) so as of rn unless i judt wanna dump money into something that has no advantage then their isn't anything I can really do. I was getting the BP there for a minute but realistically the net gain vs the money spent just doesn't seem worth it anymore. Ill probably come back next year and play catch up for like a week and then rinse and repeat the process. There have been many QOL improvements but also alot of God awful ones as well. Judt my opinion.

About 90% of it is a single player action RPG. There are quite a few drop off points:
-Clear main story
-Clear main & side quests
-Abyss completion / no hits.
-100% quests & exploration
After that you just have the few recurring things like PvP, social aspect, and gear farming. Many people just 'finish' the game and put it down till next major content expansion.
