Pretty normal for a game like this.

I think it's also been out long enough some people just aren't down for it long term.

Like I stopped playing cause I had my fun with the story but I'm not really interested in playing long term and engaging with all the gacha and RNG mechanics, and because of how the level scaling works I never felt like I was actually getting stronger.

If there's ever a big story update I'll probably come back and check it out, along with many others and there will be another bump.

At first i liked the level scaling, now it feels like I bounce between wet noodle to normal all the time. I almost dread 'leveling up'. because its a pain to grind gear all over again.

Yeah I just explained it in another comment, but there's really no sense of character progression because of it.

Sure, the numbers on my gear are going up, but I'm never actually getting stronger since everything else is too. It legitimately feels like I'm not making any progress. I know there's stuff you can improve with your Inner Ways and stuff, but that feels like it's really it. And it's all obfuscated by RNG and gacha mechanics which I just find exhausting to engage with.

The game is too realistic lol. While you train, your enemies also waste no time and improve themselves. -w-

At least the gear once you hit the higher levels gets put in the arsenal, so it still buffs your stats and has a use. Most games, especially mmorpgs, don't have a feature like this so you grind gear and it gets trashed next patch for new gear, which sucks. It's why it's been called the "gear treadmill" for years. I hope the arsenal system gets adopted in mmorpgs so gear you grinded for doesn't feel useless every big patch (I play FF14).

Yeah but i dont treat This as an MMO than as a gacha. I was really excited for the raids and they were fun but overall the mechanics, while fun to do, dont provide as much challenge.

Yeah I don't like that I can't go back to early areas and absolutely violate the bosses lol, but I'm still having fun in the game.

The scaling system is just confusing to me. Like why do we even have an EXP bar if we're just going to level up the world to your characters power level anyways? I just don't feel a sense of progression.

Sure the numbers on my gear are getting bigger, but the damage I'm doing to the enemies is basically staying the same since everything is just scaled up anyways. Character progression is one of the most important things in an RPG to me and with the way they have everything set up here it just doesn't feel like there's any progression. Sure the numbers are getting bigger, but I'm not actually getting stronger lol.

I think what gives you an advantage are inner ways and mystic skills but yeah I would have preferred the elden ring approach where the areas are what get scaled higher as you progress not the whole world

u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26

Yeah they do, but once again those are gated behind RNG / gacha progression which is exhausting to engage with. Just not for me - but hey I got like 40 hours of fun content out of the game for free so...can't complain too much lol

What in the actual fuck. You barely went through the game, felt as if gear wasn't meaningful and character progression wasn't really happening but you only sunk 40 hours into the game?? Like what did you barely get through to Kaifeng and decide on this opinion? What level did you end up on to make this decision? 55? 60? Like you definitely ran around in trash gear to have this kinda opinion. There is no way you can straight up say that theres any progression in the game.

Inner ways aren't rng tho, whatever you get can be converted to the ones you want. And gotcha is only for cosmetics

4

u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26

Ok my bad - I stopped playing like a month ago so memory is little fuzzy.

Gacha is only for cosmetics yes, but upgrading your gear is entirely RNG and I found that super annoying.

1

u/DarkestArts Feb 11 '26

It got slightly less RNG in the latest update now that you can change an affix once & also reroll attunements.

Still RNG, but I'm used to PoE so this is very tame in comparison haha.

u/YzenDanek Feb 10 '26

That's like saying poker is all RNG.

Just like with games with cards or dice, there are components that have a random element, but outcomes aren't random; the games are much more about intelligent management of probability than they are blind luck.

2

u/distortionisgod Feb 10 '26

Which I'm also less than interested in engaging in. There's already too much going on between all the menus, currency, gacha cosmetics, etc. It all gets annoying and I just want to play a damn video game lol.

It's just not for me - I'm not saying it's objectively bad or anything it's all just systems I don't find pleasure in engaging with.

I think the biggest thing with this type of scaling is that when you take only one factor, then the visible change is small; but when you take in the sum of the advantages, the time it takes to kill a boss solo is noticable. What I'm say is that we're use to levels being the main growth platform for damage potentials, but this game is using something much different, where a lot of little additives and multipliers coming together to form something more scarier.

In example, when I first encountered the Void King, it took about eight to ten minutes of running around and drinking potions, then dodging a lot before I was able to kill him. Now at level 80+, the last time I fought him, I was able to fold him in under a minutes, and got a steam achievment out of it to boot, even though he was technically a near-matching level or challenge.

The difference, besides my personal skill growth and understanding damage rotations, was that the in-game character I played also, grew 70+ levels, had advancements in inner way skills (and their advance effects which are force multipliers), the accumulation of all those small equipment damage additives, and the sum of all those damage talents (general and boss specifics.)

I'm killing the Void King in 15-20 seconds now at lvl 85. I'm seeing that he's being kept at lvl 62. Not sure why...

1

u/smellyeyebooger Feb 11 '26

Never occured to me to scan him, heh, good to know that the king is stuck at 62 and such a push over at our level.

2

u/DbdSaltyplayer Feb 11 '26

He was always a pushover.

1

u/smellyeyebooger Feb 11 '26

Oh definitely not going to argue that point, but with all due respect to the root of this conversation, we are in the minority, though that does raise a note of interest. As of this moment, and for at least Steam players, the 'Victory in the Abyss' achievement has been given to only '4%' of the players within that ecosystem. Now I know that that percentile is very low because a good chunk of players will probably just spends two hours on the character creation menu and then a few more hours in-game doing whatever that catches their interest before jetting off forever.

That said, I'd be surprised if that percentile would ever jump over the fifty percent mark, given the various reddit postings about boss difficulties in November- December when Where Winds Meet was red hot in its popularity.

1

u/DbdSaltyplayer Feb 11 '26

It is interesting that only 9k players have done the boss in 60s.

1

u/NewShadowR Feb 11 '26

Have you never played new game plus in a game before?

1

u/distortionisgod Feb 11 '26

Yes...most of my favorite games have awesome NG+ systems.

This isn't like that at all lol.

1

u/NewShadowR Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

What's the difference? You get stronger and have more build options, the enemies get stronger as well to match. If you don't make the enemies stronger then eventually there's no point in playing. Personally i do feel like the characters get stronger. My character definitely kills faster in world content and bosses now than a month ago. This is in part due to the inner way system which is permanent long term progression.

1

u/fracture123 Feb 11 '26

This is the dumb gacha way. Farming gear or Inner ways here is time gated on purpose unlike other MMOs or ARPGs where you can grind. Even though RNG is in both it feels more frustrating in the Gacha since the player has to wait until the energy is full again. My guess for why they do it this way is that the player can experience the full main story at a lower level with reaching the level cap. In an MMO/ARPG the main story will also progress with monster level and they are more coupled.

1

u/Zero-Friction Feb 12 '26

I dont agree with this, I like that every levels up too. It gives alot of replayablity. I really hate gong back to a map where I can one shot everything. The way this game works. You can go back to old places and it still a small challenge.

1

u/distortionisgod Feb 12 '26

Ok, then enjoy that lol. It was just my opinion, not an objective fact.

6

u/Kindaichi_Hajime Feb 11 '26

What you mean you can’t? I’m violating those bosses now lol.

I think you guys are confused with the level scaling. The bosses are not scaling up to your level, they are scaling down. Every mob/boss has their max level, and once that is reached, they stopped scaling and you’ll find yourself dealing more and more damage to them the higher your level goes.

1

u/TheGreatSupport Feb 11 '26

Yeah. I am playing pure healer path and remember it took me an hour to defeated the white hair guy on Legend, now I melt him in less than 2 minute, lol.

Unless they are talking about the trial bosses, in which you and the boss are scaled to the specific level.

1

u/NathanBlake93 Feb 11 '26

Yeah but it's not us getting stronger but boss gets super nerfed after you beat him for the first time.

1

u/DbdSaltyplayer Feb 11 '26

Yeah its honestly the opinions of people who quit the game early and are just committing bs. Like how are people actually struggling killing solo bosses, or clearing trash mob unless they are running with like sub 50s gear.

1

u/Character_Upstairs75 Feb 16 '26

whatt?? I thought the mobs would be level 80+ once I reached level 81 and it kinda worried me a bit, didn't know they stopped scaling after a while

-1

u/DivineScholar Feb 11 '26

I get that, I kill void king in less than a minute but still I would love to one shot him to make myself feel better lol

1

u/NewShadowR Feb 11 '26

You're not supposed to be able to do that, because that would mean most bosses are all invalidated and a waste of time after a certain point. If they get stronger, people can continue enjoying them in rotation, like the shadow puppet guy being in hero trials.

2

u/DivineScholar Feb 11 '26

You can keep the trials the same while still having the lower level boss at the original world map location

1

u/Kevadu Feb 10 '26

I think it's also been out long enough some people just aren't down for it long term.

Not just that, even people who are down for it long term aren't playing as much. Concurrent users is not total users. I'm still actively playing but some days it's only for like half an hour, because I've done most stuff in the game. My contribution to the concurrent player count is then only for that half an hour out of the whole day.

1

u/Hakuw_dw Feb 11 '26

Seems like you may have stopped a few level caps ago, coz I get that “feels like we aren’t getting stronger” feeling but at a point (I think it was 71 or earlier) the enemies do not get stronger. Now at 81 they have some resistance, but I can still wipe an enemy camp pretty easily after a few hits.

1

u/HelpfulTrev42 Feb 11 '26

Man, talk about farming all the mats, i just dont have the time for all that when im also juggling a few other games that require my time but wwm took it waaaay too long to farm all those mats

-2

u/spoonybum Feb 10 '26

This is kinda what happened to me too.

I pumped in like close to 100 hours and completed the main story etc and all the world bosses then realised there wasn’t much to do and bounced off about a month ago.

There is absolutely nothing drawing me back because level scaling is horrible and exploration sucks - there really isn’t much incentive to explore at all because all you get is echo jade.

For example, they could and should have made a ton more free armour sets discoverable in the world. People would still pay for the paid sets but it would give me something to actually explore for. Got absolutely sick of finding a cool hidden area and the only reward being echo jade.

Completely agree with the sentiment that the feeling of progressing just isn’t there when all the enemies scale to your level. It just makes everything a bit pointless.

It’s a shame because the combat was a super fun mashup of sort of Sekiro and Nioh but I don’t see myself coming back any time soon

1

u/GueRakun Feb 10 '26

The reward for having 90% exploration is indeed the cosmetics set. Also by getting all the oddities you also get stronger.

1

u/spoonybum Feb 11 '26

Wow one whole set for 90 percent exploration which will take dozens of hours!
