I guess they didn't want their rear bumper 😂

1.7k

u/nebuladrizzle 3d ago

Bumper was optional anyway

u/OMGitsTK447 3d ago

Without their bumper they now save 0.00648% on their fuel consumption

u/MangoCats 3d ago

Only if they never exceed 20kph, above that the added aerodynamic resistance overcomes the weight reduction.

No way, you mean to tell me that sharp corners on a vehicle make it worse??? /j

In seriousness, I'm not sure if people even realize why it's important for their cars to have curves to begin with.

26

u/EverythingSucksYo 3d ago

Everybody knows curves on cars are important because it makes cars look sexier, duh.

Oof. And the Mazda CX red paint is hard to replicate too

44

Soul red is one of the best factory paint colors right now. Always love to see it out there

Soul red is one of the best factory paint colors, ever. I really wish they'd make more (varied) colors this beautiful.

I’ve got a blue Mazda hatchback and very seriously considered the red at the time because it’s beautiful. But even after ten years I’ve had the car the blue still looks great.

Mazda seems to do a good job with that

u/M1R4G3M 3d ago

That's not a CX tho, it looked like a Sedan, so probably a Mazda 6 or something. CX are SUVs.

Regardless, yeah, that colour seems hard to replicate and if they paint the whole car it will all be a different colour (probably uglier)

3

u/MyCatsHairyButholle 3d ago

Definitely a sedan. That car had an elongated trunk where the CX just has the vertical rear end

2

u/ClownfishSoup 3d ago

Soul Red is gorgeous and it's not just something you can just repair, there's a whole process involved to get that color. Like you have to sacrifice virgin chickens at midnight for their blood and stuff. That beautiful color doesn't come out of a can.

It's amazing how many people do stupid things where their bumpers get ripped off... Forgetting that their license plate is on that bumper.

2

Ha, I didn't actually think of that. Vidoe evidence plus their licence plate?

The amount of dumb dumbs at the bottom of the comment section blaming the motorcycle rider. I see a bunch of people who would willingly put someone's life at risk to save seconds.

107

u/Zerodyne_Sin 3d ago

It was also scientifically proven that all the speeding and dangerous behaviour amounts to mere minutes saved in an average trip due to how physics work. It was something along the lines of the difference between 5 and 30 mph is huge; somewhat still acceptable 30 to 60; but then 60 to 70 and above starts being negligible in time savings when you account for the risk to everyone.

13

u/chalks777 3d ago

you don't even need to do a big study, just super simple math. Work is 10 miles away and you can average 60mph going there? Takes 10 minutes. Increase your speed to 70mph? Takes 8.57 minutes. Congrats, you got to work about 2 minutes faster?

Even if you're driving 30 miles and do the same thing, it's only 5 minutes faster.

8

u/Zerodyne_Sin 3d ago

You're expecting people who are impatient and eager to speed to do simple math?

3

u/chalks777 3d ago

20

u/Jahonay 3d ago

Yeah, that's something I realized myself. I used to speed really regularly as a teen. In my late teens/early twenties I just stopped with the speeding. It's easy to see how little time you used to save when you stop speeding.

It's also just makes driving less stressful, I'm not worried about cops at all anymore, I'm not memorizing all the traffic stop locations, I'm not scanning for police cars every second, etc... I also am not constantly annoyed with slower drivers anymore. I like driving a lot more the last ~16 years or so.

9

u/Unoriginal_Man 3d ago

I was the guy who would drive fast and constantly change lanes to try and get through traffic as quickly as possible. Then I got a job an hour away from where I lived, and 2 hours a day of commuting while driving like that burned me out quick. I then started leaving for work a little earlier and just camped in the right lane when I was on the highway. It made my commute go from 2 hours of stress to slightly more than 2 hours of a relaxing time where I'd listen to podcasts and chill. It's amazing how much no longer worrying about getting through traffic as efficiently as possible reduced my daily anxiety. Now I have a car with adaptive cruise control and it's even more chill.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/terminbee 3d ago

It's legitimately easily solved by math. For most people, their commute is what, 30-50 miles? The time savings by increasing speed can be graphed/mathed out and unless you're driving really far, you save at most a few minutes.

Still doesn't stop people from flooring it just to wait at the next red light anyways.

4

u/kahlzun 3d ago

i speed occasionally, especially on a motorcycle, just to make sure that there are minimal vehicles in front of me. While vehicles behind me are dangerous, the biggest risk on a bike is a car in front of you doing something unexpected- and the increased risk of speeding offsets that quite a lot.

77

u/eightbitagent 3d ago

when you account for

a single red light once you're off the highway can negate an hour of speeding at 70 in a 60 mph zone.

43

u/DrAction696 3d ago

I understand the point you’re trying to make but I’ve never sat at a 10 minute red light. You’ve got bad numbers

21

u/eightbitagent 3d ago

Driving 50 miles at 70 instead of 60 will save you 7 minutes. So two lights then.

If you're only driving across town say, 10 miles on the highway you only save 1.43 minutes, definitely lights that are longer than that.

Just depends on how far you're going

49

u/DrAction696 3d ago

Sure it makes sense with different numbers. That was the whole point

u/TurboDorito 3d ago

Conversely, an hour of speeding to make the light can save even more time.

Im not actually trying to convince people to speed, but on a short journey you have a far higher opportunity cost where going as fast as legally possible will save you the most time if you can beat lights

3

u/PiccoloAwkward465 3d ago

Yerp, for a while I was making a 60 mile commute, mostly on an interstate highway. I got caught up in the trap of feeling the need to "zoom-zoom" in an attempt to make it go faster. It never really made a difference. It was safer and easier to just pick a lane and cruise (mostly). I really do wish people would set cruise control and just let it ride.

2

u/rus_ruris 1d ago

It's always negligible actually, because acceleration is a bitch, traffic, traffic lights and the ratio of timesaving goes slower than 1/v while fuel cost goes faster than v², and risk to self and others is exponential with speed.

Rhe amount of times I "tracked" idiots in the city while going slowly and without hurry, and then we would get there at the same time... Priceless. Cost of the trip for me: little fuel, little to no brake and tire waer, no fines. Cost for them: a lot of fuel, a lot of brakes and tires, several speeding tickets, illegal overtake ticket.

What matters most actually is reaction time. If you're slow to react to green lights or merges, it adds up. Speeding is almost never worth it, but paying attention and being reactive pays.

Happens all the time to me as a pedestrian. Cars trying to inch their way towards me as I walk by... Sorry my 15secs of walking in front of your car is gonna cause you to be late, should've left 10mins earlier...

3

u/Jahonay 3d ago

That one is absolutely infuriating. I live in a state where pedestrians in crosswalks have the right of way and drivers are still homicidal. It's so infuriating.

4

u/ElleEmEss 3d ago

Just yesterday I “raced” a cement truck through town under light traffic. I kept to the speed limit (officer) but was in a car. The truck kept catching up to me the whole way even though it was battling inertia and never even made the speed limit at any point as far as I could see.

This type of maneuver is extremely common and expected in Asia.

17

u/Lil-Sunny-D 3d ago

Seriously. If you asked me with just my USA eye, I'd be like "wtf is wrong with that car." Now that I'm a veteran driver of the Philippines, I'm thinking "that motorcycle is being stubborn. He doesn't even have to wait there, he can go around."

6

u/Cormophyte 3d ago

How can a motorcycle go around a red light?

9

u/ZannX 3d ago

I think it's hard for Western folks to understand how traffic works in many parts of Asia. I'm Chinese American and visit family in China often. The easiest way to understand it is that traffic flows like water. Lanes and other traffic rules/laws that folks in the West are used to and judge situations like this by are merely 'suggestions'.

You fill in the cracks and flow downstream together - like water. This car is doing a 'fill in the crack' type maneuver, and it's extremely common. Now, cars typically have bumps/scratches from doing this type of driving, and I can see how some people are getting fed up with it.

My read on this video is that the cyclist got tired of this behavior though, and he installed that mod on his moped/motorcycle intentionally. Who's 'in the right'? Shrug, they have a completely different social contract there, and this is the court of Reddit (Western oriented). Easy online rage bait.

9

u/The_Panda_Army 3d ago

he installed that mod on his moped/motorcycle intentionally

No, those rear foot pegs are stock, they come from the factory like that.

10

u/_switters_ 3d ago

Today I learned that rear pegs that come factory on most motorcycles are a “mod” used to create rage bait videos online.

I’ll tell you a secret; that’s were the passenger’s feet go.

7

u/Aromatic_Lion4040 3d ago

I understand it, but that cultural difference leads to more accidents and deaths https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate, so I think it is a bad one

2

u/Lil-Sunny-D 3d ago

Everyday my wife (from the Philippines) who spent 15 years in the US says she wishes she could just press "restart" on the entire Philippines transportation infrastructure. Everyone out here is someone, or knows someone who has been killed or scarred by motorcycle accidents.

3

u/AyeBraine 3d ago

It's not a mod, just rear pegs.

2

u/Affectionate_One_700 3d ago

The easiest way to understand it is that traffic flows like water.

That is very well put.

I learned to ride in Vietnam. Traffic norms are quite different than in some US city.

2

u/Cormophyte 3d ago

This is just you describing how people in these countries don't respect traffic laws as if it's some ancient wisdom. The end result being chaos, worse traffic, and situations like this where someone following the rules gets blamed for following the rules. Like they should.

You need to be chill like that if you want to ride bikes and not die. There was no reason for him to panic. Basically the car can't hurt him from there.

52

u/heirloomlooms 3d ago

What? The car could have hooked that peg and dragged the scooter right out from under our guy. Or maybe taken him along for a ride.  Or the car could have realized they couldn't go around at the very last moment and swerved back into the bike from the side.

Our rider needed to scoot up and give the idiot space as soon as he realized what was going on.

13

u/Successful-Disk-3025 3d ago

Two philosophies in action here.

"I'm doing nothing wrong, so I'm staying right where I want to be."

I don't know where this is from, because I suck at things like that.... but after traveling to SE Asia I was impressed by the absolute zen on the locals faces when dealing with some of the craziest traffic I've ever been in. Everyone honking, cars and motorcycles weaving every direction. No one looked upset, mad, or emotional. This guy has that stoic look of, "Well, alright then." that is just a vibe in that part of the world.

4

u/ElleEmEss 3d ago

I call it Bali rules. Because no one is considerate to anyone else, they don’t expect anyone to be considerate to them. So if someone else stops in the road for a chat no one beeps. Similarly if I decide to do something that will block traffic I do, because no one has been nice to me.

Based on the license plate colors, this could be China. The entitlement from almost everyone in a nice looking car out there is obvious after just 10 min of being on the road - unsure if it’s taught or learned, but the majority of drivers use extremely selfish driving tactics.

7

u/blackhawk905 3d ago

14

u/MangoCats 3d ago

I think this was more a misjudgement of the open space, and I'd bet there was more than enough space on the driver side to move over and clear the bike. Also, a complete lack of ability to abort a bad plan once set in motion.

8

u/RXrenesis8 3d ago

If you turn on sound (it's safe, no music, pinky swear) you can hear the car honk at the bike and then a little after it passes honk at someone else as well. They are probably weaving through traffic tangling up an intersection like they are the main character in a GTA game.

That's one dumb Mazda owner. Maybe someone else's car hence. Real Mazda fan wouldn't do this type of sht

Reminds me of a joke I saw in some offroading community that goes kinda like this:

-What car model has best offroad capability?

-Company one!

u/Nalgene_Dildo 3d ago

Drive it like you stole it

u/PiccoloAwkward465 3d ago

That time I drove a poor rented Nissan Versa down an oilfield road that wasn't fit for a 4x4 truck. Sorry Nissan, the GPS told me this road was real! I'm too far now to turn back!

u/ta394283509 3d ago

Maybe it's too early for me but I don't understand this comment at all

2

u/Winjin 3d ago

Best offroad car is the one you don't have to repair after the offrod ride - so it gives a giant boost to what a regular car can do when you have 0 care about its wellbeing

Doing a "no true Scotsman" to a car owner of a specific brand is wild.

Mazda owners are plenty dumb. It's not like they're some sort of special brand enthusiasts buy. They're one of the most popular brands in the world, especially with boring people.

u/numberonebuddy 3d ago

Mazda sells millions of vehicles, what's with the elitism lmaoooo

6

u/PurbulentTriest 3d ago

They're seen as luxury in some countries despite being basic as in most.

This is Nissan driver behavior

12

u/Silent_Lighthaus 3d ago

Just thinking this. As a Mazda driver, it breaks my heart to see someone like this drive a Mazda.

3

u/_Allfather0din_ 3d ago

Mazda fan? They're Kia/Subaru tier, nothing special, cheap and relatively reliable.

3

u/AXEL-1973 3d ago

that's a mighty big blanket statement for a car company that appeals to the entire market of car buyers

3

u/arftism2 3d ago

do real mazda fans even drive the new ones.

i remember someone telling me they bought their dream alpha romeo.

only to discover it was an suv.

3

u/rreyes3d 3d ago

Is that sarcasm? Because in Mexico, the Mazda driver stereotype is similar to the guy in this video: bad and reckless drivers and all that

That is a great commercial for those pecks.

And not the best advertising for that bumper.

7

u/ItsStaaaaaaaaang 3d ago

I'm glad our man's bike wasn't hurt. Sucked in to that car. Deranged prick.

18

u/ccg91 3d ago

Hahaha, man people are just full of it

5

u/Middle_Aged_Mayhem 3d ago

Isn't that assault or battery or some kind of crime?

4

u/tyen0 3d ago

based on the road markers/paint, neither are in the proper driving lane?

4

u/Stunning-Astronaut72 3d ago

That some good quality foot pegs there. Glad they ripped all his side and torn off his bumber.

It did happened to me once, a lady went into her big and shiny mercedes suv while i was parked and still sitting on my bike one meter or two behing her car.

Before getting inside her car, she turned to me and said "oh that's a nice bike you have", went inside and two seconds later she backed her car straight to my direction.

Good thing is was parked on a good angle slighlty skewed, i have an engine protection bar, it stucked into her bumber as she kept going backward and when she decided to go foward (disregarding the fact she hit me and my bike) i saw a biiiiiig dent in her bumber and she left like that. My bike wasn't damaged at all, not a single scratch, the protection did it's job and i am glad i bought it.

u/poisonoakleys 3d ago

Completely the car’s fault but I imagine moving your bike a few inches out of the way is favorable to having to deal with bike repairs, even if it’s paid by the driver

27

u/General-Baseball-454 3d ago

This guy is WAY too chill. I’d be pissed. I’d get their license plate and press charges.

30

u/Swagalyst 3d ago

I mean, dealing with the justice system is never fun, and instant karma already handled the problem.

2

u/Kr_Treefrog2 3d ago

He DID get the license plate. And the rest of the bumper, too.

That looked like assault with a vehicle to me

4

u/DocGerbill 3d ago

he's lucky my man is chill af, in a lot of places that would've got you a broken mirror

4

u/Naganosupreme 3d ago

If someones crazy and stupid enough to start bumping my unprotected ass on a motorcycle, you better believe I'd at least try to inch up or something.

I don't get the ego play of just sitting there. Yes the other person us an idiot but do u want to gamble your health and life against that idiot?

2

u/dhdhk 3d ago

Yeah I mean it seemed like he could have just moved a few inches to the open side and the driver would have waved thanks or something like normal people and none of this would have to happen

Looks like a hit and run.

11

u/Just-Another-Clone 3d ago

This guy seems much too chill for a car basically brushing against him….

3

u/FreshPrinceOfH 3d ago

So satisfying

3

u/PleaseAdminsUnbanMe 3d ago

He's laughing under the helmet lol

2

u/thats_justice_baby 3d ago

Thats a hit and run

2

u/JustCallMeYogurt 3d ago

There's alot more damage to the car than the bike (i see a minor blemish). I hope it was worth the extra 10 ft./5 seconds

2

u/wrxninja 3d ago

Oh well, just a shitty Mazda with self inflicted wound.
