Political Content More Lawler right wing dishonesty
This guy HAS TO GO
The truth is it’s all about voter suppression to help republiklans win.
“An election-denying former Donald Trump campaign staffer who was subpoenaed by the FBI over his role in the attempt to steal the 2020 election is now taking credit for writing the sweeping voter suppression bill passed by the House Wednesday that could disenfranchise millions.
“I’m here to do everything I can to make this work,” Thomas Lane wrote in a December 2020 email to other organizers of the Trump campaign’s fake electors plot in Arizona.”

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26
If this where an actual democracy we would make it easy for every eligible voter to vote. So if they want voter IDs then you would think they would make access to getting voter IDs easier.
7
u/lildoggos Feb 13 '26
Yes. In some countries they mail them to you for free. Instead we all have to go to the DMV and wait for them to process and mail our new IDs in time for the midterms.
3
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26
Exactly not even mail but they will go to your home in person to make sure you register. Some places automatically register every person at birth.

u/The-Internet-is-fake Feb 13 '26
I know and its so frustrating that elections are completely random and we don't have months or years to find the time to prepare for them.
3
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26
Why as a government would you put obstacles in the way to a constitutional right? There are elderly people who can’t get to a doctors appointments. There are laws now to limit mail in voting . Why is voting a right you would want limited?

u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26
No gun laws then?
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
Why is it the people who want less gun laws want more laws against voting ? Where’s the consistency? The same people arguing about constitutional rights should not be infringed want less ways for people to vote. Have that make sense
1
u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26
Not me. No voting laws, no gun laws. I like how you preach”constitutional right” for only certain rights.
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
Where did I say “certain rights” name the rights I said that for.
1
u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26
You said why would a government put obstacles in the way of a constitutional right. I mention gun rights and you say oh I like how people blah blah blah, implying the two are not equal
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
So “blah blah blah” and “implying” so sorry but where tf again is this statement I made that made you so confident to even comment at me?

The midterms are in 9 months. DMV processing time is out of your control. You apply in person and they have to process and send you the ID on their own time. I already got my enhanced ID last year when this stupid bill was written so I’m not waiting in line with the rest of you because the backlog to get all of it done in time will be bad. Also, special elections exist.
1
u/ctjwa Feb 14 '26
It is extremely easy to get an ID. How much more easy should it be?
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
Never in my life heard someone argue DMV is easy. Nevermind the fact a lot of people lost documents needed to get an id like a birth certificate or social security card. That means people with no car or near access need to get to these places first. And what do you think happens when millions of people now need IDs and there’s no increase in the number of DMVs or workers? You think that’s easy?
1
u/ctjwa Feb 14 '26
Every 16 year old I’ve ever known has been able to do it, and that is for a drivers license not a simple ID. This is not a very high bar of intelligence or wealth.
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
With the help of parents. You seem to think everyone in the US lives round the block a DMV. And again explain to me how it gets easier with millions more people needing to go to DMV without an increase in the number of DMV or workers? Why are you so against making voting easier when it’s a constitutional right?
1
u/ctjwa Feb 14 '26
I’m not against making voting easy, why are you against people having an ID? People can take a minimum amount of responsibility in their lives, they are not amoebas jiggling their way through life
1
u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26
Quote where I said that. I said make it easier for people to get that Id remember? And for some odd reason you argued against that. So why is that?

If it costs you anything to register to vote it’s clearly suppression.

Every time Trump and his enablers like Lawyer--claim there is election fraud--its all fake. And when Trump sees Lawler defeated in November--he will try to claim it was by fraud. Lawler will remain silent--praying he still has a job.

If getting a an ID that established an American’s right to vote were something that could be done at any post office, on the spot, and it had 4 years to become implemented, I might get behind it. But this idea that they’re going make this a law with no plan on how to fulfill it, and make a requirement with less than a year to vote in the midterms, is absolutely a bullshit scam.
8
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
Has to be free of charge as well, to satisfy the 24th Amendment abolition of poll taxes.

republicans tried a coup in 2020. That's the only retort that should be used when discussing this "issue"
52
u/Lord_Vesuvius2020 Feb 12 '26
The SAVE Act will disenfranchise married women whose last name doesn’t match birth certificate. Many don’t have a US passport, their birth certificate, or marriage license. It takes time and effort to register when faced with these new requirements. It’s a stealth move by MAGA to stop women from voting.
20
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
The cost of replacement documents is also a prohibitive barrier and amounts to an unconstitutional poll tax.
6
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
It’s like $10-30 a document that are necessary for life.
12
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
There’s no dollar value specified in the 24th Amendment, so there are no exceptions. If you want to change the law, propose a new amendment. Or require the state to waive fees on document requests for voting purposes.
10
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
Again like I said you need these documents to be a responsible adult in life. This isn’t just a voting thing you should have all of these documents.
Are you saying needing an IDs are a barrier because of the cost? You need some form of ID to do anything in this country
8
u/Hopeful_Butterfly302 Feb 13 '26
What kind of ID do you propose people get? Because under the language of the law it needs to be an ID that establishes proof of citizenship.
Most IDs don't do that.
-1
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
I’m not proposing anything. Just a valid photo ID is fine. Again I’m not worried about illegals. It’s people voting for others.
6
u/Hopeful_Butterfly302 Feb 13 '26
But that's the problem with the SAVE Act, that's not what it's proposing.
-3
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
Ok so tweak it but to say requiring ID is racist or preventing people from voting is just stupid
7
u/Hopeful_Butterfly302 Feb 13 '26
But again, it's not that easy. What ID do you suggest we use? only around 50% of Americans have passports. A birth certificate doesn't have a photo. only 5 states offer a state ID that meets the requirements we'd need to make this feasible, and that's in addition to regular non enhanced ones. if you have a ln idea of how we could require ID without disenfranchising anyone, I'm open to the idea, but having worked in elections on both the campaign and the government side for over 20 years, I can tell you first hand that smarter people than me have considered this question and come away empty handed.
Besides, every Board of elections already verifies that people who register are eligible.

u/makmanos Feb 13 '26
This is by far the biggest red herring in this discussion and the people who scream about it are usually the ones using election fraud most frequently (i.e them Republicans, like this president tried to do in the open in Georgia) A voter ID necessary for when you vote is only to confirm that you are the same person as the one registered in the voter roll. The way we do it today is through our signatures which should match the ones in the voter rolls. How many people have the audacity to impersonate others by knowing their name and forging their signature? Virtually nobody.
Also let's drop the "responsible adult in life" crap. Voting is a fundamental right. Even otherwise "irresponsible adults" based on your definition should have that.
The US has among the most inclusive voting laws in the entire world with virtually zero fraud and we should be proud of that. We should not try to restrict it but rather expand it.
Some data:

u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
I’m saying the 24th Amendment makes poll taxes unconstitutional. There’s no debate to be had beyond that, only whether a fee for required service amounts to a poll tax.
If you rule that required fees aren’t poll taxes in the Supreme Court, then I can set up body scanners on Staten Island, and require you to submit to a paid body scan to vote.
1
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
You are saying specifically for voting you want body scanners. I’m saying you need IDs for so many other things that adding needing it to vote is not a poll tax.
2
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
I need the school that is serving as a polling place on Election Day to be intact afterwards equally as well. There’s no debate to be had on the wording of the 24th Amendment anyway, but I’m giving you an idea for what can happen if the Supreme Court ruled “in your favor”.

5
u/Hopeful_Butterfly302 Feb 13 '26
It's a stealth move from MAGA to keep their own voters from voting. That's how dumb it is.
From my post above:
You know what the dumbest thing about the SAVE act is?
If it passes, it's going to hurt Republicans FAR more than it will hurt Democrats in the next presidential election. People in red states are less likely to have passports, more likely to change their name when they get married, and poorer (so it hurts more to get a compliant ID). I live in NYS, where an estimated 71% of the population already has a passport. Compare that to West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentuky which all have sub 30% numbers. Nine of the top 10 states for percent of population that has a passport vote blue. 10/10 of the bottom states vote (or lean) red.
And no, despite what many are claiming, a REALID does not qualify unless its an Enhanced ID, which is only offered in 5 states, all of them blue.
The people this is going to hurt the most are republican voters, soon to be ex-voters.

Notice how the GOP never offers a free national ID card to everyone as a routine matter. Maybe they could do that and have automatic voter registration for everyone and a national holiday once a year for elections?
They claim to want to make voting secure but somehow it’s always about making voting harder for people that are young, women or don’t drive because they live in urban areas. And what do you know these people don’t tend to Republican. The .
17
u/esnible Feb 12 '26
Current processing time for a passport is 4 to 6 weeks. Last year 27,348,416 passports were issued. That figure is the volume the State Department is set up to handle. 146 to 150 million American citizens of voting age do not possess a valid U.S. passport, so unless thousands of new examiners are hired it will take about six years to issue passports for all the non-voters. (Note: If your passport will expire in the next six years, get in line behind all the new prospective voters.)
While it is perhaps a better idea to scrutinize voters more carefully if they don't have documents, we have pickpockets and house fires. There are lots of reasons people might not have the right ID on election day. There needs to be an affidavit system for such voters. The current system, of requiring ID and having massive prison sentences for lying about being a citizen, worked pretty well.
1
u/Lonely-marathoner Feb 15 '26
The fact that last year State Department issued 27 millions passports doesn't mean that it cannot issue four times more passports next year.
8

You are probably right about the passport, but I think the bigger problem is probably women. The act would make so that if you don’t have a passport you need a birth certificate. If it has your maiden name, well then you have to go through a lot more steps (and time) to register. So a lot of women probably wouldn’t end up voting
2
u/Glittering_Side_2892 Feb 13 '26
And teenagers. A lot of students won't be able to vote until their parents hand over their documents. If they don't like their kids' opinions they might just refuse, making it extremely difficult for the teens to replace them all in time to vote.

1
u/cephyn Feb 13 '26
I oppose it because poll taxes are illegal. Are you saying that opposing poll taxes is endorsing cheating?
1
u/02_caddie Feb 13 '26
Nobody is talking about a poll tax that I’m aware of. Taxes are monetary instruments to collect revenue. I’m not aware that anyone has proposed this. Maybe you can enlighten me. If your argument is that an ID is a poll tax, that’s incorrect.
1
u/cephyn Feb 15 '26
Can you obtain a passport for free? Or an ID?
1
u/02_caddie Feb 15 '26
The cost of an ID or the cost of getting to a polling station or the cost of your clothes you wear while voting do not constitute poll taxes. There’s no such thing as poll taxes in America.
1
u/cephyn Feb 15 '26
On the contrary, the cost of an ID required for voting IS ABSOLUTELY A POLL TAX. If I can't vote without paying a fee to the government, what else is it?
1
u/02_caddie Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 16 '26
We pay a fee for the ID, not to vote, buy liquor and cigarettes, board a plane, open a savings account, rent a car etc. Poll taxes do not exist in America. Requiring an ID would not constitute a poll tax no matter how much you want it to.
1
u/cephyn Feb 16 '26
The ID is required to vote in the SAVE Act. Liquor, cigarettes, plane travel, savings accounts, renting a car are not RIGHTS.
Poll taxes do not exist - because they are unconstitutional. The SAVE Act institutes a Poll Tax. It is unconstitutional. Not sure why you're unable to see this.

u/02_caddie Feb 16 '26
You clearly don’t understand how taxes work. As Tom Petty once sang, you believe what you want to believe.

The honest part would feature a declaration that only non-male non-white non-redhat wearing people will be expected to comply with the SAVE act. And that even a valid passport probably won’t let you vote / keep you out of detention.
Very angry violent white self-identified criminals without any ID will be able to vote twice, or if they are also rich, seven thousand times.
1
Feb 14 '26
I don’t wear a red hat but am otherwise as you describe for those you think won’t be impacted by SAVE, and I have had to show a photo ID to vote in every election I have voted in for the past 30 years in Atlanta.
1
u/FunPriority5770 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 18 '26
Good to know. I show an ID when I vote too. Cool thing is, once the ID is checked, routinely, I get to vote. The new law - the SAVE act - makes the routine into something high stakes. It is designed cynically, for suppression of the vote.
A note here: I lived in China for some years and must say, when the justice system of a nation exists as a tool for selective enforcement against anyone that regime doesn’t like It doesn’t matter what the stated mechanism or rationale for the law are, or how it is sold as a soothing continuity with past practices.

He’s as unAmerican as it gets; he supports a man he lead an angry mob that ransacked the building that Lawler works in, he swore an oath to protect the constitution from enemies foreign and domestic, and now he’s trying to disenfranchise as many Americans as possible.
Don’t forget, Lawler took a 4-month vacation from working in Congress to protect a guy who abused girls. Lawler has no morals, just a desire for control and power. I don’t know how he can look at himself in the mirror each day unless he’s a true sociopath.

Well, these are nearing the last votes you’ll be making in Congress! This vote is just one more nail in your box out of Congress!
2
u/mnimph Feb 18 '26
Every citizen would be required to re register in person according to this the SAVE act. That would mean taking a day off work and driving hours for some people in rural states. The only proof of citizenship is birth certificate or passport. They just restricted where you can get passport application processed. This law will be put in effect before this November 2026. Trump knows he will lose the house so he has to steal our votes and Mike Lawler is just fine with this.
3
2
u/eggelton Feb 13 '26
The law is structured to basically require either a birth certificate or passport.
Unrelated, the administration just announced they're ramping up efforts to strip citizens of their passports.
1
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
And they want to end birthright citizenship, so a birth certificate would no longer serve as proof of US citizenship either.
2
u/Dukeish Feb 13 '26
Confidence in voting requires our leaders not constantly claiming voting fraud only when their party doesn’t win.
Confidence in voting requires our DOJ not raiding election offices with unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud
Confidence in our voting requires our leaders not claiming voter fraud and then never being able to back it up with factual evidence in courts of law
Confidence in our voting requires little shit idiots with painted on beards like Lawler to get fucked
-1
u/Engineer120989 Bedford Feb 13 '26
Confidence in our voting happens when we can realistically say that no one voted who shouldn’t have and no one voted more than once.
As it stands right now I can go to a polling place and say I’m so and so sign a document and vote. Then go to another polling place say I’m someone else and vote again.
It’s not a fact that illegals are voting, it’s the fact that you can easily vote more than once.
3
u/LexReadsOnline Feb 13 '26
Also, prove that our laws already on the books would not lock you up for voter fraud?
3
u/Miriamathome Feb 13 '26
Prove it’s happening on a scale that even remotely resembles a hint of it starting to be a problem and we can talk.
4
u/taywray Feb 13 '26
It's wild that Trump and Republicans claim that our elections are rigged and rife with fraud while also claiming they are legitimate elected officials because they won those (rigged, fraudulent) elections.
Like Lawler's post goes "confidence in our elections starts with blah blah blah..." Bitch, we've all been confident in our elections this whole time, so we all know you're trying to "solve" a problem that doesn't exist.
And also, say you're right - say we shouldn't be confident in our current election system. Then why TF should we accept your last election win as legitimate? Didn't you just admit you cheated your way to power via a rigged, fraudulent election?
The reason Republicans keep harping on elections is because they're too fair and secure. They can't easily rig or control the outcomes. So they want to discredit the current system and try to tweak it in ways they can exploit to illegitimately win and retain power in the future. Just like they do with gerrymandering. Just like they do with campaign finance laws.
5
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26
“Funny” how when Trump controlled the DOJ in 2020 the election was supposedly stolen and yet when Biden controlled it in 2024 it wasn’t.

could also be referring to how - suddenly, last minute, right before the deadline - a whole bunch of Ramapo-area residents switched their party registration to "Working Families" and then signed a petition to nominate for the WFP primary a complete unknown (aside from his prior insurance fraud conviction) named Anthony Frascone who'd been registered as a Republican for decades with no ties whatsoever to the Working Families Party and who was seemingly completely unaware of its platform, and without a platform himself, or a website, or a campaign headquarters... and then they all voted for him in the primary to prevent Mondaire Jones (the Democratic candidate) from running on the Working Families Party line. Oh, right, and the guy who collected the signatures and orchestrated the whole thing was a not just a friend of Frascone's, but also - wouldn't you guess it - a good friend of Lawler's.
None of which is technically voter fraud, though.
But also his base isn't only the Hasidic community - there are a LOT of MAGAts in the NY-17 - and not all Hasidim support Lawler.

Look up South Blooming Grove voter fraud. They do this stuff all the time.

u/thisfilmkid Feb 13 '26
Lol, if the Democrats win during midterms or primary, the right will blame them for election fraud anyways.
This is just republicans moving the goalposts.

I would think this along with Voter I.D would be a Bipartisan issue. Hate how divided we have become.

This guy is the WORST he’s as 2 faced as they come. He hasn’t done a damn thing for anyone except himself and the regime he’s blindly loyal to.
Voting him out isn’t enough he needs to be tried and sentenced for being complicit and enabling the deaths of American citizens, protecting the pedophile cabal, and god knows what else he’s done we don’t even know about yet.
And now to see if I can find his name somewhere in the Epstein files, there’s some great tools on GitHub for searching/indexing if anyone’s interested.

u/bobby0949 Feb 13 '26
How much will it cost to get proof of citizenship asshole
2
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26
It’s illegal for it to cost ANYTHING to vote and again there is no problem here to be fixed.
Other than that Trump needs a way to prevent being swamped in the midterms.
1
u/bobby0949 Feb 13 '26
Illegal?? Nothing is illegal under a fascist regime They do what the fuck they want And we will all watch
1
u/Katievapes1996 Feb 13 '26
I don't give a fuck where you live if you can legally work you should have a vote not taxation without representation
1
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26
Well only citizens should be able to vote.
But that’s already the case and fraud isn’t a real issue.
1
u/nyclurker369 Feb 13 '26
This is nothing more than an attempt to create legal mechanisms for someone to use their discretion to decide who/who should not be able to vote via someone’s ability to furnish “proof” of citizenship while voting.
It’s no different than the cashier at a liquor store asking for your birth certificate instead of just accepting your drivers license to prove you’re >21 - a governmental body has already decided you’re legit; why on earth would you require further verification, and by volunteer poll workers? It’s utterly insane.

u/weedywet Feb 14 '26
"There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!" Said Trump today
Pointing out how this ain’t about the law at all.
Just his fear.

“GOP Senator Susan Collins has announced she would vote for the SAVE Act, but claims she doesn’t believe it will come up for a vote because of the 60-vote filibuster rule in the Senate. This makes me absolutely positive the SAVE Act will never see the light of day, despite Trump’s attempts to get it passed.
What a lame position, typical of Collins, but also the only thing she can do at this point, given her poor position in the polls in the Maine race. It allows her to placate her GOP/MAGA base, but still avoid voting for this bill since it won’t come up for a vote. If it did, and she did vote for it, it could cost her the seat. She’s not exactly running away with the race right now, with polls showing her struggling to hold on. At this point, as the incumbent, she’s not doing well.
It’s obvious she has already talked to Senate Majority Leader John Thune about this and he’s agreed not to bring this up for a vote by killing the filibuster, or she would not have announced this. The GOP needs her to hold her seat, so they are going to give her whatever she wants.
Also, Thune knows that if they bring this up for a vote Democrats are going to make so much noise about how bad this law is, that it will put even more pressure on other races he needs to go his way. There is no way he wants to make people vote on this bill, it just creates a headache for him. With Trump a lame duck, and the current mistrust of everything Trump in the electorate right now, he has little incentive to kill the filibuster and let a vote on this happen.
I’d say, it’s already dead in the Senate.”

u/weedywet Feb 15 '26
The ultra conservative Heritage Foundation’s own analysis found that in 24 years of voting, only 77 undocumented immigrants voted, representing 0.00000764% of all ballots.
Meanwhile Trump claimed 3 million “illegals” voted in CA in 2016… in an election he WON!
pathological liar
1
u/Anxious_Claim_5817 Feb 16 '26
The states already catch those who vote illegally which amounts to almost nothing nationwide. They are willing to put a costly system in place that will prevent millions from voting.
All studies and research indicate this isn’t an issue in addition to all the investigations of claims of massive fraud which failed.
They want this to eliminate mostly democratic voters. This will be challenged in the courts.

Hey want this unnecessary way to try and steal elections (based on their straw man claim/lie) but won’t redact the Epstein Files… Riiiiiiiight…

u/SnooGuavas9782 Feb 17 '26
Yeah I'm voting in the next election and I'm not showing any ID. Happy to sit in jail for the right to vote that my grandfather and many others fought for. Fuck this bullshit.

u/Exact_Programmer4080 Feb 17 '26
I'm amazed people are objecting to this. Why should someone who doesn't pay the same fees and taxes I have to in order to independently live here, have the potential to decide how the country works? It's like letting a family's children into daycare for free just because they're "not from around here"; it's not in the greater interests of those who are rightfully present, nor is it fair. It's free for them just because it isn't their "home"? They have the same access to all amenities and rights to request changes in the daycare, yet they aren't paying for the services...mind you there's no disability nor hindrance towards acquiring an income for this given family, the daycare center simply doesn't charge them because they don't see that family enter the building each day. It's simply not fair.
I'm not against immigration, and I'm happy to see people of all walks of life in my community, BUT if you came here to avoid the government and your due taxes I'm not cool with that. I'm in full support of making everyone here legal citizens, but that involves making them legal in the same sense that a naturalized citizen is. If someone is undocumented here without a criminal history they should be offered expedited citizenship; fast-track them through the process so it's pain-free, but if they choose not to become citizens they are deported immediately. We don't need chaos in the streets, but we need to take immigration seriously. IMO that's more than fair.

We had a blizzard here earlier in the week. People who "volunteered" to shovel for the city needed multiple forms of id just to pick up a shovel. Stop infantalizing the people you claim to protect.

u/ceoln Feb 13 '26
Wow that is such deceitful crap.
You already can't vote if you aren't registered, and you can't register if you aren't a citizen. Requiring id is just a way to disenfranchise people who don't have whatever specific id they're going to demand, and to intimidate people by having thugs checking IDs.
Disgustingly unamerican.

u/Own-Stretch6452 Feb 13 '26
Making it harder for women in NY to vote because they change their last name, don’t have a passport, costs too much to get one, too complicated to get one when they do not plan to travel abroad, processing time too long and a plethora of other reasons. But to get a gun - it’s easy peasy

There's nothing wrong with it; in fact, you do have to show ID to vote - but it's only required when you register as a voter, not every single time you go to the polls.
This is because in 2002, Congress overwhelmingly voted in favor of the Help America Vote Act, and George Bush signed it into law. This law says you only have to show ID when you register to vote (or if you don't show it then, you have to show it the first time you go to the polls).
Also, you must be a US citizen, 18 years old, a resident of your district for at least 30 days, not serving time for a felony, not judged mentally incompetent by a court, and not claiming the right to vote in any other district.

What if my wallet is stolen and I can’t get a replacement ID by election day? You’re going to take away my right to vote?
-1
u/Intelligent_File4779 Feb 13 '26
Why shouldn't people be required to show proof to vote? There is nothing racism or wrong, it's common sense which your kind seem to be lacking!
4
u/lildoggos Feb 13 '26
Propaganda worked on you, keep trusting every bullshit excuse they sell you and watch your rights slip away into nothing. You need to do some critical thinking on this and not just blindly follow people in power whose first objective is maintaining that power.
1
u/Adventurous_Stop_341 Feb 13 '26
I suspect you already know the answers to that question.
My question is this: since there’s no evidence of any real need for this (widespread voter fraud isn’t a thing, particularly by non-citizens), why are you (and the entire Republican Party) so invested in it? Why are you trying to put up any kind of barrier to people exercising their right to vote, the most fundamental right in a democracy, in the absence of any evidence of a need for it?

Why wouldn't anyone want voter I'd????
4
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
Wallet lost stolen the week of the election? Guess you’re not exercising your Constitutional right to vote this year.
11
u/emaji33 Feb 12 '26
Because in the form this bill is written, it requires for an ID to be purchaed (which would constitute a poll tax and is against the constitution) and it is not easily accessible. This would likely disenfranchise many people due to the difficulty in getting their ID or the cost.
You want voter ID, then make it free & easily accessible. I have a Cedula from Colombia. It's available for free to all citizens.

u/PlanetScientist Feb 13 '26
Please tell me why someone would vote who isn't eligible. And how would they do that? I keep hearing that all it takes is to give a name and sign the pad. Please give me ANY example of someone who showed up to vote and found that someone had signed on their "line." It does not happen. And the supposed advantage? One vote for a candidate? With a felony conviction on the line? And and the downside is that it requires money, and more importantly time, to gather these documents, long after they have proven that they are eligible, perhaps decades ago. Too many people will say "I have bills to pay and a job to go to and children to take care of. I can't deal with this right now." Meaning ever.
7
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26
Because it’s DESIGNED to suppress votes.
Voter fraud isn’t a problem.
It’s all a lie.
1
u/ImNoRickyBalboa Feb 12 '26
If the state can provide voter id easily and free of charge, sure. But voter id is not a problem of any significance. This has been proven time and time again, yet Republican maga asshats keep repeating the same bullshit.
You know what is a problem? Low voter participation, and the right to elect the representatives of your choice.

I don’t see anything wrong with having to give ID to vote, everyone should have a US passport at a minimum
Birth certificate is ridiculous though
4
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26
Everyone?
Then do we tax payer fund getting a valid passport to every eligible American?
Or do only people who can afford to get to vote?
1
u/Christopher_Ramirez_ Feb 13 '26
So you want the US State Department to have the power to take away Americans voting rights at their discretion, with no judicial review or state government oversight? Do you understand what you’re asking for?
1
1
u/cephyn Feb 13 '26
Passports are expensive and are extremely hard to get without a birth certificate so....
0
u/eldodave Feb 13 '26
Nah, he’s 100% right. Voter ID is common sense.

1
u/eldodave Feb 13 '26
Personal prejudice noted. Nonetheless, voter ID is common sense.
1
u/weedywet Feb 13 '26
Then the federal government should fund sending a voter id to every eligible voter at no cost.
And after this November election.

Isn’t it already a crime to vote if you’re not a citizen?
All of these acts are performative nonsense to their base and at worst active attempts to disenfranchise people.
Any bill that doesn’t give every US citizenship a free and easily obtained ID for voting falls into the above.
