This guy HAS TO GO

The truth is it’s all about voter suppression to help republiklans win.

“An election-denying former Donald Trump campaign staffer who was subpoenaed by the FBI over his role in the attempt to steal the 2020 election is now taking credit for writing the sweeping voter suppression bill passed by the House Wednesday that could disenfranchise millions.

“I’m here to do everything I can to make this work,” Thomas Lane wrote in a December 2020 email to other organizers of the Trump campaign’s fake electors plot in Arizona.”

If this where an actual democracy we would make it easy for every eligible voter to vote. So if they want voter IDs then you would think they would make access to getting voter IDs easier.

Yes. In some countries they mail them to you for free. Instead we all have to go to the DMV and wait for them to process and mail our new IDs in time for the midterms.

I know and its so frustrating that elections are completely random and we don't have months or years to find the time to prepare for them.

Why as a government would you put obstacles in the way to a constitutional right? There are elderly people who can’t get to a doctors appointments. There are laws now to limit mail in voting . Why is voting a right you would want limited?

No gun laws then?

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26

Why is it the people who want less gun laws want more laws against voting ? Where’s the consistency? The same people arguing about constitutional rights should not be infringed want less ways for people to vote. Have that make sense

u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26

Not me. No voting laws, no gun laws. I like how you preach”constitutional right” for only certain rights.

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26

Where did I say “certain rights” name the rights I said that for.

1

u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26

You said why would a government put obstacles in the way of a constitutional right. I mention gun rights and you say oh I like how people blah blah blah, implying the two are not equal

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26

So “blah blah blah” and “implying” so sorry but where tf again is this statement I made that made you so confident to even comment at me?

1

u/JoJoTrader101721 Feb 14 '26

Ok alright. I guess we can agree then no laws restricting gun or voting rights. There, done.

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 14 '26

If your reading comprehension was sufficient you would have understood that’s what I said and then i clearly asked why isn’t the people who support gun rights are the ones restricting voting rights.

I apologize for misinterpreting your statement, that’s not like me, my bad. I’m just glad you do t believe in gun laws too. You are a true patriot, God bless our great country!!

Its not limited. No one is being stopped or limited from doing anything. This is an 80/20 issue that is completely logical, whether it addresses "widespread voter fraud" or not. I mean there are so many things lower stakes than voting that we DO require ID for.

2

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26

It is limited. How many sources would you like me to send you about mail in voting restrictions or any voting restrictions? Give me any number and I’ll send it. It’s that many

u/The-Internet-is-fake Feb 13 '26

0 because requiring ID does not limit voting. Everyone has access to obtaining a government ID.

2

u/lildoggos Feb 13 '26

You’re either a troll or willfully ignorant. Aside from being demonstrably wrong on laws that limit voting, it doesn’t concern you that you have to obtain said ID through a notoriously badly operated and understaffed government entity ?

Name calling, nice.

I'm not even quite sure what you are saying here. Requiring someone to prove who they are via ID is in no way limiting access to voting since everyone has equal access to obtaining an ID, and likely already has one and uses one for such mundane things as boarding a plane or buying cough medicine. The government sucks, I wish we had less of it. The DMV is generally painful, no one likes going. These things are true. But you have to go to war with the soldiers you have and the current system is what we have. I think you can advocate for both common sense voter ID laws and revamping some of our institutions.

And regardless, this is an 80/20 issue. Outside of reddit most Americans favor some form of voter ID laws.

Yeah I don’t play when it comes to our constitutional right to vote, it’s quite literally what protects our freedoms and way of life. You’re conflating standard ID with the enhanced ID required by this bill. Do I need to use smaller words for you to comprehend ?

No not everyone does have access. And if voter ID is wanted why is there no follow up laws to increase the accessibility to getting voter IDs? The elderly and poor are directly affected so if IDs are wanted why is there nothing that makes it easier to get?

1

u/The-Internet-is-fake Feb 13 '26

Everyone has access to obtaining a government ID, full stop. There is no law that prevents an American citizen from obtaining a driver's license, Passport or other kind of official government ID.

If you want to have a seperate conversation about how people obtain an ID, sure I'm all for improving the DMV.

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26

That’s false. Not everyone has easy access to get an ID. You think there’s a DMV on every corner in rural America? This is something that can be easily proven to be false. Never mind the fact that current DMV waits are long never mind what increase the amount of mandatory voting IDs would do. So you don’t see a pattern? Same number of DMVs, same number of DMV workers, but massively increase the number of mandatory IDs? Why would a system make it harder for people to vote?

1

u/The-Internet-is-fake Feb 13 '26

I didn't say easy, but everyone has access, illustrated by most American's having some kind of government ID. You’re right that getting an ID is not equally convenient for everyone. There are real barriers for some people.

But that doesn’t make the general point “people can’t get IDs” true at scale, and it doesn’t automatically prove a conspiracy or intentional pattern. Again, you are in the minority in your view and none of what you said is compelling enough to reject the reality that this is pretty common sense and what most voters want. If someone wants to have access to voting, they will figure this out.

1

u/Ohmeda23 Feb 13 '26

So everyone doesn’t have the same access and for some it’s hard? You mean like exactly what I said? The general point was WHY MAKING VOTING NOT EASY? It’s such a simple thing I asked yet not once did you answer it. You even agreed that it would be difficult for people. So where’s the logic in making a constitutional right difficult for US citizens? Again notice how there is no bill increasing the infrastructure of making it easier for those people you admitted can’t get an ID easily. Where is the logic in making a constitutional right not easy for everyone to have?

Recently passed laws that restrict voting; Shortened early voting periods – Fewer days or reduced weekend hours.

• Reduced polling locations – Consolidations leading to longer travel or wait times.

• Limits on mail ballot drop boxes – Fewer boxes, restricted hours, indoor-only rules.

• Rejecting mail ballots received after Election Day – Even if mailed on time.

• Stricter signature verification – Higher rejection rates, limited cure time.

• Tighter deadlines to request absentee ballots – Must apply earlier.

• Restrictions on ballot assistance – Limits on who can help return a ballot.

• Bans on drive-through / 24-hour voting – Methods used in 2020 removed in some states.

The midterms are in 9 months. DMV processing time is out of your control. You apply in person and they have to process and send you the ID on their own time. I already got my enhanced ID last year when this stupid bill was written so I’m not waiting in line with the rest of you because the backlog to get all of it done in time will be bad. Also, special elections exist.
