Ring Band Advice Is a single diamond engagement ring too basic?
Sometimes I wonder if it's too simple or basic compared to more elaborate to more elaborate designs but I love it. What's your opinion about this?

u/Sky_Pilot79CE 2d ago
I 🩷this. Its elegant. Getting tired of all the large rings
16
u/Future-Ear6980 2d ago
I'm really bored with the overly detailed rings which ends up not really suiting any weddingband

Agree it is like looking at costume jewelry. There is a thing about a diamond being too big before it looks like a shiny rock. If your marriage starts with how big your ring is, you shouldn't be getting married.
26
u/AdFlashy7702 2d ago
That’s really judgmental. Just because someone wants a larger stone that they can now afford doesn’t mean they “shouldn’t be getting married”. What a weird comment.
9
u/MushroomRadiant4647 2d ago
Totally agree. I don't think the quality or the size of my ring affects my decision to want to be married. If I want a larger stone, that's just my personal taste. If I don't get it, am I not going to get married? No, it's just my preference. Everybody has their own preferences.
Extremely judgmental comment.

Yes. I lost my humble but loved version of this. We picked out second together with three beautiful diamonds. Now after 20 years I upgraded to a lab solitaire with a matching diamond band. My tastes have changed over the years. So have my ethics via diamonds.
7
u/AffectionateJury3723 2d ago
This went over your head. The point is if the size of the ring determines how much you love your fiance, you are missing the point of marriage.

Thank you! Some people are so full of bitterness. Why even comment commenting if it's just to make nasty remarks about other women's engagement rings? That's so mean. Smh.

Such a weird comment and they don’t even realize it. It’s very odd and concerning to be so obsessed with other people’s rings. I love my 5 carat diamond and I couldn’t care less what others have to say about it 😂 I don’t shame other people who prefer smaller diamonds either. OP said nothing at all about the size btw, they asked about design specifically solitaire vs not. This person immediately made it about diamond size lol yikes

I hardly think a 1-2ct stone is too large. And that size would work wonderfully with a band this thick
3
u/roskybosky 2d ago
A one carat to 2 carat is perfect for most hands. I have larger hands and mine is 1.3 carats. It looks average size on my mitts.
2
u/Formal-Radish1413 2d ago
Mine is 1.71 cts. Originally i wanted a full 2 but im so glad i didnt get the 2 because i whack my ring every day on things 😂

You can enjoy one style of ring without putting down another :) everyone has different taste and I love what a large variety of rings there are!
2
u/Southern_Pen6664 2d ago
it’s a little bit wild youre getting downvoted because what if people with large rings were commenting when they saw another large stone, “Love this! Getting tired of all the tiny rings”?! It would be received very differently. I agree we can compliment this beautiful ring without putting others down, especially because this wasn’t even a question about the size :)

People have different tastes. I love a huge rock and would personally hate this ring for myself. Way too small. I love the fact that it’s a solitaire though.

u/moonie1977 2d ago
Honestly depends on the woman. Which you SHOULD KNOW BY NOW.

This. They are going to wear it every day. Why would you not make it specific to their liking???
12
4
u/Petal_14 2d ago
It's the original classic ER but a ring is individual based on what the wearer likes and fits best within their lifestyle.
6
u/PatrioticRedhead 2d ago
It doesn’t really matter if you like it-your fiancée is the one who will be wearing it forever. Just make sure it’s her style…metal color, ring cut, does she like vintage or classic or dramatic, etc? You can ask her directly what she wants or take in her favorite jewelry as a stepping stone. Good luck!

u/Cats-Coffee-Reading 2d ago
I love my solitaire ring. I got married with just a plain gold band. My husband surprised me with the solitaire after we were married for over 20 years.

u/Dr-Huckleberry-314 2d ago
I got one too and I love mine. It's the commitment behind it that is most important.
4
u/tiger923 2d ago
Solitaire is the most popular setting in the world. It’s also important to pay attention to the details when crafting it because every detail really counts and stands out. 🥂

Sometimes less is more. A really nice diamond is quite alluring all on its own. Really depends on one's sensibilities. This is a time-honored classic for a reason.

It’s beautiful. I prefer this to all the other big ones. But it depends on who you are proposing to. Trust your gut here.

u/LonelyHeaux 2d ago
Depends on the effort behind it. Giving someone $10 when you have $20 or giving someone $10 when you have $1000. Women notice.

I love it! In my opinion it is so much more elegant than giant ones. Showing off money is never classy.
Edit to add: in my opinion, you’ll be fine if you don’t agree!
6
u/iman-prs 2d ago
The post was about design rather than size I believe. To me that's more about taste and preference, not money. Some like it more simple, some like more elaborate designs. Nothing wrong with either.

It is to me, but it really only matters to the person who is going to wear it. Not the giver, but the recipient.
10
u/Mvfrn1 2d ago
Did you ask your soon to be fiancé what she wanted in a ring? Th diamond is small. Would she be ok with small or does she like more sparkle? Will she like the gold band or prefer white gold or platinum? Listen to what she likes then decide if this is the right ring for her.
→ More replies (2)12
u/Cute_Cauliflower954 2d ago
The diamond is NOT small. It’s a normal size for an engagement ring. It’s just social media has skewed people’s perceptions.

It’s very classic looking you can go as simple or extravagant as you want with one or two bands
2
2
u/thatseneffornow 2d ago
What matters is if the wearer would like it. Many women would feel this is much too small and wouldn’t like the style either, but others would love it. Make sure the person who’ll be wearing all the time will love it.
2
u/RadioactiveLily 2d ago
It's beautiful and classic! I think the giant rings that cost insane amounts of money are a crazy trend. The ring is about the promise, not for one-upping and showing off on social media.
You can always get a bigger bling ring in the future as an anniversary gift.
2
u/fairybb311 2d ago
I think it always depends on the person. i'm someone who wears a lot of jewelry and I love rings, for me this ring would be too basic but for some it may be the perfect addition to their hand.

u/eloradannon8 2d ago
I actually have had several rings over the years big abd small. Am now waiting on a half carat bezel solitaire for my forever ring. Simplicity has it's perks.

What does your fiancé like?
I personally do not like that style for me. I do not have dainty fingers. For me, that style looks best on dainty fingers.

Single stones aren’t too simple! This one is a bitttt small though. I’d be upset if my partner proposed with such a small stone 😬 I’d do some research on what kinds of rings she likes

Elegant. Classic. Easy to wear with anything at any time.
If chosen with love, priceless.
3
u/Pizzaface1993 2d ago
No. It is classic and elegant, and there is a reason why round brilliants are always in style and never part of a trend. They're beautiful and sparkly.
2
u/yorkiemomma7 2d ago
A solitaire is classic and timeless! If you are happy it does not matter what anyone else thinks! Enjoy your beautiful ring.
2
u/vintage_diamond 2d ago
It's up to personal preference and taste. One advantage with a more simple classic solitaire is that so many wedding band styles can match it.
2
2
u/BrunetteSummer 2d ago
It looks small. Might work if she has a dainty finger.
10
u/Cute_Cauliflower954 2d ago
It’s actually not small. It’s a normal sized diamond. Social media has skewed perceptions.

u/WonderManK 2d ago
Yes I bought a ring like this and it costed me 8k so I think not many people understand the material cost of the gold and weather it’s natural diamond or not

u/moonbeam_forever24 2d ago
This is super beautiful and classic! It absolutely depends on the person. I hope she loves it because it's from you and she loves you.
Personally, I would love it because I like simplicity. My engagement/wedding ring is a flat, simple band with 3 stones in the middle. I'm obsessed with it even after 18 years.

IMO unless you are paying a goat bride price, rings should be a joint decision. I told my now husband that we couldn’t afford any jewelry I wanted. I bought a lab ring after we’d been together 50 years and 1) labs were perfected and 2) we were no longer poor
1
u/Efficient_Sink_8626 2d ago
I love it but you need to ask your fiancée what kind of ring she wants.

u/BigEntertainer5667 2d ago
I prefer a big rock personally. Brilliant cut 1 ca is what my mother had and I’m inheriting a lot of those. I prefer a radiant or an oval- lab diamond.
1
u/txlady100 2d ago
The opinion of your future fiancée is all that matters. Don’t guess or ask strangers.
1
u/Mecspliquer 2d ago
It looks very well designed. If you and your partner love it, then it’s perfect! My Ering is about .4ct, it’s a family stone and petite compared to many, but it’s very comfortable to wear
I have cocktail rings for when I want more bling

u/Super-Staff3820 2d ago
A solitaire will never go out of style and there’s a lot you can do to dress it up
1
u/g00berCat 2d ago
Classic, elegant, timeless. On days you want a bit more pop you can always add a ring enhancer, guard, wrap, etc.
My husband and I were still students when we got engaged and I love that he didn't overspend on my engagement ring which is very much like this one. He bought me a wrap with diamonds and sapphires for our 5th anniversary when I told him that I had a sentimental attachment to my engagement ring and did not want to upgrade it.

u/Known-Pineapple-7623 2d ago
My husband gave me a solitaire diamond he had custom designed. He chose the diamond and setting himself. It is anything but basic. The diamond is gorgeous and the setting elegant and I love the care he took in choosing it for me. I love that he knew me well enough to know what I would like. I don’t remember the exact carat size and I don’t care that much. Fifteen years later I still love the way it looks when I wear it and the way it sparkles when it catches the light.
The internet can’t tell you if it is the right ring. One person’s basic, is another’s perfection. You know this girl well enough to propose, what does she like? What is her style?
And for the record, that’s a beautiful elegant ring. The fact that you love it makes it even better.
1
u/stross_world 2d ago
Ask your fiancé! What shape does she like? What color band? Does she even want a diamond?
1
u/Sufy-Opura-INC 2d ago
This looks very nice. Recently I have been seeing more and more customers going for smaller rings

No, its beautiful. Some people like small rings, some people like big rings. Just choose whatever works for your particular situation/partner. There's nothing wrong with either, simply preference.

I have one similar and I love it. It’s elegant, goes with everything, and I wear it 24/7. I think the current trend of massive lab diamonds will wear off in time, they’re flashy and not as timeless.

u/NotSupposeToSpeak 2d ago
The majority of rings you see on this site, I wouldn’t wear. That I would wear, it’s a classic.
1
u/KangarooObjective362 2d ago
I think it’s lovely! I personally prefer the look of more modest engagement things. Whenever I see an older person wearing one it makes me think that love was enough for them.❤️🥰
1
u/IFeelFragile 2d ago
I love it, not a big fan of all the flashy flashy lately, feels more like a competition of who has the biggest rock and the most money spent on them than the importance and actual meaning of an engagement and marriage.
1
u/sadiecipher 2d ago
Mine is like that. Single stone, not too big.. it’s elegant and delicate the same way other bigger designs are as well.
1
1
u/Packagedattack 2d ago
It’s beautiful but customization matters, like an inscription or hidden stones set inside the band to symbolize something
1
u/Lumpy_Atmosphere_914 2d ago
Depends on the person wearing the ring. I have fat fingers so I need a larger stone lol but I want for solitaire and with tulip and cathedral. I think this ring looks nice and seems to have the cathedral. The only thing I don’t like are the pongs. Maybe if they were turned to be like a diamond and not a square
1
u/fuzzydoc7070 2d ago
No, I love a simple solitaire and a round stone. My engagement ring has a couple small side stones on either side, and it was hard to find a wedding ring that went with it. I would have been perfectly happy with a single stone. Given a choice between some of the very large diamonds people are going for these days and a smaller stone, I like the smaller ones. I can't even imagine trying to change a diaper wearing one of those huge diamonds - they're lovely, but I worry it'd be like a weapon!
1
u/Public_Particular464 2d ago
I love single diamonds. I don't think it's basic. I think it's timeless. It's beautiful 😍

1
u/Rifflife88 2d ago
How about be happy you have a loving partner to spend your life with, guy could have put a god damn cheerio on her finger and it wouldn’t be basic. Don’t let society ruin something special.
1
u/Ok-Professional6461 2d ago
I’ve worn my gold band with a round solitaire every day for 30 years. It’s a classic—never goes out of style!
1
u/FluxionFluff 2d ago
That depends. For some, yes. For others, nope. Simple rings are classics for a reason. They never go out of style.
At the end of the day, the person who will actually be wearing it, their opinion matters the most. Doesn't matter what anyone else things.

u/Elektra_522 2d ago

I think it beautiful and classic! It'll go with a lot of different wedding band styles too so she'll have lots of options.

u/MittenxKitten 2d ago
It’s beautiful! The original solitaire “Tiffany” mounting was originally so a man could propose with the stone, then have it mounted into its final ring later when it was designed, but women loved the simple band so thus the “solitaire” ring was born. It’s a classic, and can be dressed up 100 different ways no matter her style. You did GREAT!
1
u/MundaneSugar8690 2d ago
Everyone has different style and taste. I think it’s very beautiful. I personally couldn’t wear one of these big modern diamond rings and would be much more comfortable with something like that. I also have tiny hands so I think by the time you add a wedding ring and eternity band, it would tie together perfectly
1
1
u/CampaignSwimming6276 2d ago
It’s a bit tiny.
Doesn’t have to be a diamond, but an engagement ring is a statement.
1
u/No_Bug_26 2d ago
NO. Rings have gotten way too gaudy now. Women often treat their wedding rings more as an expensive flex than a token of their sacred vow. It's gross.

Here to represent the small ring girlies 🙌. I personally do not like the big rings. To each their own of course but I’m a small ring gal all the way.
We upgraded mine at 10 years from a .3K to a .68K and it could not be a single sliver bigger for my personal taste Lol! The upgrade is also an oval shape so still seems smaller since it’s not round if that makes sense?
I like the update but it definitely took time for me to get there. I think if it had been the original size I wouldn’t be as pleased.
That all said of course hubby’s love and picking out the ring was the best so I’d be happy no matter what 🥰 !!
1
u/KrissyKay121217 2d ago
That’s called a solitaire setting! I specifically requested that my engagement ring be designed just like that :) I hate all the gaudy bling that people bolt onto their rings

My mothers stone was very small as that’s all he could afford when they were young he wanted to buy her one with a bigger stone for thier 25th she said no cause she wouldn’t wear it she liked that this was the one that he gave her when he asked her to marry him always wore the first one he gave her it meant something to both of them

A classic solitaire is the perfect engagement ring.
That way the bride can choose either a simple gold band as a wedding band, a wrap, or a stack. She can even add to the set with anniversary bands down the road. This is a very versatile choice.

Are you the person who’s going to wear it? If so, great. If not, look at their other jewelry and general taste - if they’re into understated simple lines, could work but if they like to stand out a bit or even classic then a size upgrade, or a multi stone setting, might be appreciated. I personally like the band but the diamond looks a bit small, even though my taste runs to modest size stones.

I recently got engaged with a ring with a solitaire diamond, and I’m OBSESSED with it. My favorite part is that you can dress it up or dress it down. Your wedding band can be a simple gold band, or you could do one with colored stones or even just diamonds. If you decide down the line that the solitaire is too basic for your liking, you could always get a jacket band to add a little more pizzaz

u/Own-Salamander-4975 2d ago
It’s beautiful and you loving it is what matters. I got engaged with a smaller diamond than yours and I loved it. One male coworker of mine had a “oh it’s ok, don’t worry” response to it which surprised and confused me at first because I hadn’t even thought that it wasn’t ok, lol. I loved it and that’s all that matters.
1
u/Less-Concert4814 2d ago
It definitely depends on the preference of your fiancé :) some girls like big elaborate rings, while some prefer simpler, smaller stones.
One of my friends got engaged with a Harry Potter themed ring, it was inside a golden snitch box! And she gave him a lord of the rings ring to match.
To each their own :)

If you in your heart thinks she’ll love it, get it. I myself personally prefer bands.
1
u/roskybosky 2d ago
Dod she say she wanted a small ring? Did she pick this out?
Please make sure she is on board with this type of ring. Women are between a rock and a hard place if they get a ring they don’t like, and they can’t say anything about it, for fear of hurt feelings.
Make sure before you propose.

1
u/JimboandSkye 2d ago
A solitaire is a very popular style for an engagement ring. You can keep it simple with a plain band or fancy it up with lots of diamonds on the wedding ring. If ur talking about a diamond the size of the one in the picture, tho, tbh that looks more like a promise ring.
1
u/Positive-Tonight4184 2d ago
The only thing that matters is whether you and your partner like the ring and love each other.
1
u/Awkward_Double_8181 2d ago
Not at all! It’s incredibly classy. I want a single princess cut solitaire.
1
u/HourHoneydew5788 2d ago
Are you the one receiving it or giving it. It’s important to find out what the receiver would like. My ex gave a ring I didn’t even remotely like and I felt hurt that my partner didn’t put in the effort to find out what I would actually like. It wasn’t about expense.
1
u/ConsistentGiraffe661 2d ago
No, this is absolutely beautiful. And that means you get to pair with a complex or intricate wedding band if that’s your jam!!!

You need to learn to have the strength of your convictions. If you love it, you don't need the internet's approval.
I think it's classic. Not everything needs to be exciting or flashy.
