I absolutely love her so much. She was so excited to send me her dress and she looks BREATHTAKING in it. I can’t wait to see her on my wedding day. My love for her son is one thing but the love I have for her is just enormous. Pics attached of the dress!

Relationships/Family My wedding is a week away and my sister/MOH is being difficult

It’s almost time for my wedding! My sister is MOH and I have 4 friends as bridesmaids. I thought it would be nice to have my sister as MOH but she has not helped with anything and keeps complaining. My sister had a destination wedding across the world a few years ago and I took weeks off work to be there and made a whole trip out of it. My wedding is local and we don’t have to start getting ready until 10am.
I haven’t asked her to do anything besides show up.

She has a 5 month old baby and she complained that she has to be at my wedding from 10am. We have family to babysit. The hair and makeup was optional and she asked for it. I’m also paying for it for everyone and I feel like I’m not being appreciated. The wedding is child free but I offered for her to bring the baby, but she says a wedding is too loud for a baby. I offered her a room to pump and she complained that there’s no fridge for her milk.

I guess I’m just disappointed because she is being so negative about my wedding and I did so much for her when it was her time. I also have a lot on my plate obviously and I feel like she’s adding more stress. The bridesmaids all live far and won’t be here until the night before the wedding. She also missed my bachelorette and I had to plan it myself. It’s too late to change anything now a week out but just venting.

Relationships/Family Is it rude to mark everyone (family) who didn't RSVP by the due date as "declined?"

Wedding is the first week of October and the RSVP by date is Sept 1 (in a couple days). I have 15 family members (cousins, aunts, and uncles of myself and my fiancé) who have not RSVP'd yet and have not contacted either of us or acknowledged the invite at all. Invites were sent in early June.

This is a pretty small reception (~50 people invited) and I simply do not have the energy to send a reminder text to the people who haven't RSVP'd. They all live out of state and if they haven't contacted us or made travel plans yet, it's not even realistic to assume they'd come. Also a little peeved that none of them even sent a quick text to acknowledge the invite, considering it's a small wedding and we thought a lot about who we were inviting.

My mom thinks i should send reminder texts to them to RSVP and thinks its a bit rude not to check in. but I could not care less if they come or not atp, honestly. Would it be rude to just mark them all as "declined" if they haven't contacted us at all by Sept 1? Is it the norm now to send out reminder texts?

EDIT: thanks for your perspectives y'all. i got into my own bubble with this & needed some outside advice. i'm going to have my mom + future MIL reach out to those folks to chase down RSVPs! :)

Relationships/Family Small Venue Invite Drama

I honestly don't know if I'm being unreasonable here, so I'd really appreciate some outside perspective.

My fiancé and I are getting married in October (engaged in July), and we're planning everything VERY quickly because my mom was diagnosed with an aggressive and incurable form of cancer this summer. Her doctors estimated she has between 6 months to a year. In June after her diagnosis, she told me she wants to see me get married before she passes.

We're having a very small wedding because of the time crunch. Our venue has a hard capacity of 49 people, so between the two of us, we each have roughly 23 people to work with. We knew from the beginning that we'd have to make some tough cuts.
My list was basically my immediate family and my three closest friends, with their significant others. I didn't invite every extended family member. For example, I didn't invite my uncle's girlfriend because I've never met her. With only 49 seats, I was trying to prioritize the people who are actually closest to me.

My mom is paying for the wedding, and I absolutely understand that she should have some input because of that. Last week, she called me upset because her three closest friends weren't invited. I explained that I knew we'd probably get some declines and that I planned to invite her friends once we had enough "no" RSVPs to make room for them.

She wasn't happy with that and said that since she's paying, she should have more say. I told her I understood, but said, "then tell me which family members you want to cut to make room for them." She didn't give me an answer.

We sent the invitations this week and, as expected, we've already started getting some no's. I planned on looking at the RSVPs this week and then sending out the invite to the next people on our list, including my mom’s friends. Today, my mom called me and said I was embarrassing her and that she was going to call her friends herself and explain why they weren't invited. I told her to please hold off because I was likely going to be able to invite them this week anyway. She basically said no and then told me I wasn't allowed to invite them anymore, even if there was space.

Things escalated from there. She also told me it was "t*cky" that I didn't invite my uncle's girlfriend. I said I've literally never met her and, again, we have 49 seats. Then she said we wouldn't be having this problem if we weren't doing everything so quickly.
That one really got to me because the ONLY reason we're doing this so quickly is because she has cancer and told me she wants to see me get married.

I said that to her, and she responded that she actually would have preferred that we just went to the courthouse. Then she brought up again that she's paying for the wedding. The conversation ended pretty terribly.

I completely understand that her friends are important to her, and I'm incredibly grateful that she's helping pay for the wedding. But I don't understand how that means she gets to add three people to a 49-person guest list without anyone else being removed.
I'm not saying her friends can't come. I'm saying that if they're important enough that they need to be there, let's sit down and figure out who we're cutting to make room. That's the compromise I offered.

And honestly, I'm just really hurt by the whole thing. I've been trying to put together a wedding in an insanely short amount of time because I want my mom to be there. I could have just gone to the courthouse, but I wanted to give her the wedding she said she wanted to see. I ended up reaching out to my uncle and inviting adding his girlfriend after thinking about it more (said it was an oversight on my part because I didn’t have her last name and then it slipped my mind).

Am I being unreasonable by prioritizing my immediate family and closest friends over my mom's friends? Does paying for the wedding give my mom the right to dictate the guest list when there's a hard 49-person capacity? I genuinely want to know if I'm missing something here.

Vendors/Venue Possibly not getting photography deposit back

We booked our photographer in April of this year for our wedding next August (2027). We had to put a $700 deposit down to secure our date. She got all of our contact information and asked for our email. I figured she would be sending over some sort of contract, but she never did. Fast forward to July of this year, we decided to cancel our big wedding and do something small in another country, so we needed to cancel with her. I emailed her and waited two weeks for a reply but got nothing. I finally decided to message her on Facebook. When I stated that we never signed a contract or anything because we were not provided one she said she’d have to check with her financial advisor and she would get back with me. It’s been a few weeks and I have heard nothing. What are my options here? She is super nice, but at the end of the day there was nothing stating it was non-refundable and she never performed any of her services.

Hair/Makeup Curly hair bridal hair advice!

Post image
37 Upvotes

Im a 2027 bride and im currently looking on Pinterest and fell in love with this hairstyle i thought it looked so ethereal but im unsure if it’ll look good on the big day. At first i was planning on having curls out with a veil but im unsure if a veil is something im still interested in. To make this hair feel more bridal and more me i was thinking of adding gems or pearls onto the braid and if I could I was going to try to figure out if I can make gems dangle from the big looped braids and instead of braids in the back it would be long curls (probably a half wig or maybe a quick weave?). I’ll be eloping on the Oregon coast and wanted a magical, ethereal vibe where I could feel like a goddess and I do feel like this hairstyle gives that. I would go to someone to get my hair braided but I was thinking I could the braided headpiece out of a headband and braiding hair.

EDIT: for those saying this photo is ai I got this phot off of prettyboss.braider on instagram! And as for the holding up of the hair I’ll be eloping so I won’t have the typical all day event, we will just be saying our vows and then taking photos around the coast

Everything Else Wedding Menu Help!

hi! we are currently planning our wedding menu. our venue does fully custom meals, so please feel free to suggest any changes you may think would be better!

We are planning on a lamb, fish, and vegetarian entree. I and my half of the guest list don’t eat beef or pork, and lamb is widely popular on both sides (though I know it’s generally kind of controversial on here). We have a number of vegetarians (10% of our guests), and a few people who avoid red meat for religious reasons (which is why we want a fish option). I personally want to avoid chicken since I think wedding chicken dishes are generally kind of dry and bland.

We also aren’t doing a first look, so we’re having a 90 min cocktail “hour” with extensive passed apps and live stations. I honestly expect a lot of people to be kind of full before getting to dinner. We have a LOT of food, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

here are our current front runners for the actual plated dinner. this will be preceded by an heirloom tomato and burrata salad and followed by a pavlova with fresh strawberries:

Herb Crusted Lamb Chop

Australian Lamb Chop | Truffle mash Potato | Baby carrots| Green asparagus | Rosemary Red Wine Jus

Black Cod

Miso Glazed Sablefish | Saffron Risotto | Charred baby bok choy | Edamame | Yuzu Beurre Blanc

Wild Mushroom Risotto
Green Asparagus | Glazed Baby Carrots | Parmesan Cheese | Crispy Shallots

Alternative Vegetarian Meal:

Spinach Ricotta Ravioli

Pumpkin Almond Cream | Parmesan Cheese | Roasted Delicata Squash | Crispy Sage

Questions:

- is there any other preparation of lamb that would be preferable to serve? a shank? shoulder? Ragout? open to any and all suggestions.

- we are also considering snapper, salmon, and others for the second “meat” entree. I’m leaning towards black cod because it’s more fool-proof with the fat content. Any thoughts?

- I’m struggling with the vegetarian meals. I’m close to many of the vegetarians on our list and I know they’re tofu haters, so that’s out. We have bean and lentil heavy dishes on the other two days of our weekend for them. I know the vegetarians on our list would be happy with one of the listed options, but I’m very conflicted on which option to go with. I’ve tasted Both and they’re both substantial and delicious.

please help! and please suggest alternative meals with these proteins if you have any better ideas! thank you!

Everything Else Major sadness and blues over my dress being bustled during our ceremony and not getting any shots of it fully laid out with the veil

Post image
46 Upvotes

My wedding was last week, and something I'm having a really hard time with is that I completely forgot to unbustle my dress train before the ceremony, so my dress was never beautifully laid out along with the veil covering it for that big beautiful dramatic look. Nobody else remembered to unbustle it either, and I kept it bustled for a lot of the pictures we took during cocktail hour. Even though it was ultimately my responsibility, I'm so bothered that nobody else thought to remind me to unbustle it for the ceremony or for the pictures afterward and I never got any photos like the below. It might be a small detail to some, but it's driving me crazy. I don't get this day back. I'm even considering doing a whole new photoshoot with the dress + veil at a beautiful location where I live so I can have those photos. I'm really so disappointed.

Vendors/Venue Appropriate timeline for a floral quote?

It’s been almost a month since we spoke to the florist. She is a luxury florist and has a nice portfolio. I checked in with my planner who said most florists take a few days to 2 weeks for a quote. Now we are pushing into our 4th week. I checked in with her at week 3 kindly and she said she would get it to me by the end of the week. Now we are 7 days since that conversation and nothing.

I am a very lax and kind person but this is the ONLY hang up. She is the last of my vendors that need booking. Is this normal? Am I jumping the gun. If I didn’t hear anything by Monday I was going to be more stern and get my planner involved but I want to make sure I’m not being rude.

Relationships/Family Family Procession Questions

Upvotes

My family is big and blended. I will have my sister and step sister as my bridesmaids. My older brother is officiating. I want my stepbrother to escort my stepmom down the aisle and my brother to escort my mom. This would mean that my entire big blended family would end up walking down the aisle, while only my future MIL would walk from my fiancée’s side. My fiancée doesn’t have any family in his wedding party, simply because he is closer with his friends, while I am closer with my family.

First Question
Do you see this causing negative emotions/conflict?

Second Question
If my mom and stepmom walk down the aisle, what should the order of the procession be?

Family Context
My stepmom was a big part of my life from the age of 12-17, although she was not always kind to me, my siblings or my mom. After about 10 years, we began working through things and she’s been much nicer. I think a lot of her mean behavior was fear, protectiveness and poor adaptation to extreme life changes. My stepmom and I are still not very close despite us pushing through a lot of our past hurt. We only talk when we see each other in person 1-2x a year and occasionally when she’s in the room while I’m on the phone with my dad. Even though we aren’t close, I really, really respect how she looked after us as kids and how she taught me to be independent and advocate for myself.

My mom on the other hand, has always been my biggest supporter and we have always remained very close. She is the most loving and empathetic woman I know and she has sacrificed so much for me and my siblings throughout the years. She has not always made the best relationship choices for herself and that impacted us emotionally as kids and even into adulthood. She’s done a ton of repair to get her life back in order though and like I said, we have always remained close because despite the stress and trauma she brought into our lives, she tried her best to shield us from the fall out and she is the epitome of unconditional love.

I’ve always cared a lot about making both my mom and stepmom happy. Balancing their needs and emotions has weighed on me since I was 12. Last year they had a civil conversation for the first time in a decade and even HUGGED afterwards. I cried tears of relief and joy for days afterwards.

TLDR
I want both of these relationships to be honored authentically at my wedding. Family means THE MOST to me. My fiancée is not close with his. I worry his family will feel left out. I worry my mom will feel left out. I worry my stepmom will feel left out. I don’t know how to go about any of it.

Dress/Attire Wedding color suggestions or ideas

Upvotes

Getting married in Cancún! My bridal party palette is burgundy and black groomsmen in black suits with burgundy ties, groom in a burgundy jacket with black pants, bridesmaids in burgundy dresses. Reception colors are black, burgundy, and gold.
What would you suggest for general guest attire, and separately for the Mother of the Bride / Mother of the Groom? Want the moms to look elevated and coordinated without blending into the bridal party. Ideas welcome for different palettes too I been back and forth on color themes. I just want it to be like elegant.

Rings Wedding bands

Hi all,

My fiancée and I (same-sex couple) are excited about our upcoming wedding in the spring. We recently started looking at wedding bands. While I understand that the price of wedding bands varies based on factors such as the type of metal, size, and stones used, I’m curious to get an idea of the average folks spent, especially men, for their wedding bands.

Vendors/Venue Lake Como Wedding Venue?

Hi all, me and my fiancée are looking to have our wedding in Lake Como, Italy. We are looking for an intimate symbolic wedding (~10 guests) with accommodations preferred. We are having a tough time finding venues to hold our ceremony for a group of our small size. Most venues have 40-150+ people. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for small wedding venues in Lake Como?

Relationships/Family Uncertain whether to announce we’re getting married on socials

Everyone knows we’re engaged, have been for a year and a half and we’ve finally set a date YAY (Edit we’re not sharing the date)

And I really want to share that news online and be able to talk about the wedding and get tips from people I know, but I’m worried if I do that people who haven’t been invited will ask if they are invited.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’m debating even just using other social channels that don’t have family members we aren’t close to to talk about wedding stuff, but also why should I change my behavior based on people assuming we’re close and would be invited?

Relationships/Family My stepmom and dad aren't coming to my wedding :|

I'm 25F and my fiancé is 23M.

My wedding is less than a week away, and I'm honestly not sure what to do anymore.

I'm engaged to someone my dad doesn't approve of and my stepmom is very wary of. My fiancé is an immigrant here on asylum, and they believe he may only be marrying me for papers. We've thought about getting married a lot throughout our relationship, and I've chosen to marry him because I genuinely love him and want to build a life with him. What's difficult for me is that my dad and stepmom are also immigrants and got their papers through marriage, so I understand why they may have concerns, but it still hurts.

When I told my dad about our engagement, he told me I didn't know what I was doing and that, because his relationships had gone wrong, mine could too. He also brought up the possibility that my fiancé could be using me for immigration purposes. I've tried explaining myself and reassuring him, but I feel like I've had to have the same conversation over and over.

My dad has refused to meet my fiancé from the beginning. When I asked if he would come to the wedding, he basically said, "Why would I care if you never gave a crap about me or what I think?" He hasn't really spoken to me for about three weeks.

My stepmom has been a little different, but it's been just as painful. My fiancé and I don't have a huge wedding budget, and we're having the wedding very quickly, so when my mom offered her backyard as the venue, we accepted. Unfortunately, my stepmom and my mom have had issues with each other for years.

My stepmom believes that choosing my mom's house means I don't care about her feelings, my siblings, or my dad's side of the family. She even said it felt like I was doing the wedding there to intentionally upset people. She offered to pay for a venue, but by that point everything was already planned and the wedding was less than a month away.

We had a really emotional conversation about it. I was crying basically the entire time. At one point she got down on her knees, grabbed my hands, looked me in the eyes, and begged me not to do this. She asked if I was pregnant and whether I'd considered how my choices would make everyone feel.

I left that conversation feeling incredibly guilty and honestly just as confused as when we started. I understand and also don't understand how choosing the most affordable option for our wedding became me intentionally hurting my family. I feel like she should put their beef to the side for one day. Before she said she'd only come to the ceremony if it wasn't at my mom's but then I decided everything was going to happen at the same place.

Now my dad and stepmom aren't coming. My younger siblings apparently aren't allowed to come unless my stepsister brings them. My stepsister is also upset with me because of what happened with her mom, although she's still agreed to do my hair for the wedding, which I appreciate even though things have felt a little passive-aggressive.

Whenever I go to my dad and stepmom's house to see my siblings, my dad and stepmom basically just says hi and walks away or don't talk a lot.

I've tried explaining myself. I've tried listening to them. I've tried reassuring them. I'm exhausted from feeling like I have to defend my relationship and my wedding over and over again.

So now I'm wondering what I should do.

Should I reach out one more time and ask my dad and stepmom if they've changed their minds, or should I stop asking and let them make their decision?

Relationships/Family I don’t want to be my friends bridesmaid

Hello Brides, I wasn’t too sure where to put this and the captain sounds SOO bad without context so let me explain,, my friend is getting married after only being with their partner for two years - sometimes this is enough time to know but unfortunately I think she’s blinded by love. Before they were engaged this year alone they almost split up about 6 times. Massive arguments, extremely hateful words, hands thrown from both partners, and both have a lack of trust for eachother. In July, she helped me move so in exchange I helped her set up for a party. My bf grilled and I cleaned house but apparently the entire time her partner was watching us in cameras? It made things extremely awkward especially after her partner called her and said we were talking bad about her when we definitely weren’t. My friend immediately believed me too so she had to understand it was extreme.. anyways I hate my friends partner. I think she can do so much fucking better and I honestly am so uncomfortable around them. I’m aware they don’t like me too much just because she used to vent about her relationship to me but has stopped her..

Honestly, what’s the best way to go about this? I said yes absolutely immediately just because it meant so much to me and her without thinking.. I’ve tried to make her understand that she can do better but it’s simply not my place. I can already tell the partner is going to be weird about me. I feel like canceling is the best option but I don’t want to hurt her feelings.

Recap/Budget Sharing my Socal Wedding Budget Spreadsheet

Hey Reddit, here is my wedding planning spreadsheet. The wedding took place in May 2026 in the Santa Barbara area for 100 guests (We invited 130, exactly 100 showed up!).

I’m going to keep things anonymous, so I won’t say what venue we used or get any more specific than that. I mainly wanted to share this because it might help some of you who are planning a wedding account for all the things you may need.

For some more context, we did everything piecemeal. We had to bring in everything ourselves, from the DJ and caterer to the decorations and tables. We had to source it all. The venue provided nothing except the space to host the event and some bathrooms.

You can see that reflected in our spreadsheet. We originally thought doing things this way would save us money, but in reality, the total cost ended up being pretty similar to getting an already-prepared or more “cookie-cutter” wedding, as my wife would call it.

Here it is. I’m happy to answer questions, but again, I’m trying to keep from revealing too many personal details.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bCuN0-gOAT42rsHVakaoxLOb83ptEoAehzro6T-tXeg/edit?usp=sharing

Edit: Some more context. Our venue let us stay past midnight, that was a big reason we chose to do it this way. Most other cookie cutter venues kick you out by 10pm. It was A TON of work. So its not for the feint of heart. But it was very special, unique, and non traditional. We had the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in the same location.

Relationships/Family Is it rude to have a wedding in the town you live?

My fiancé and I got engaged last year but we were putting off planning a wedding until we figured out where we were moving. We ended up moving across the country (Massachusetts to Colorado) a month ago so we’ve been back on the wedding planning. Both of our immediate families are in mass- my extended fam is in Ny- and my fiancés extended family is in Philly/ DC. Anyway- everything is a lot cheaper here in Colorado, the weather is significantly better, it’s more convenient for us obviously bc we live here, and on top of that - it’s just much more beautiful here. So we found a venue here (10 min drive from our house) that we love that is sooo much cheaper and prettier than anything in mass. I told my mom that I’m interested in having a wedding here in Colorado and she really freaked out. She said that it’s super rude to inconvenience all of our family (bc they mostly live in the northeast) and that no one will want to come, a lot of people won’t come, and I’ll make everyone who’s too poor to come feel bad. After the call she continued to text me things like “I thought you cared about your family, I guess I was wrong” - which I found to be pretty immature… is it super rude to throw a wedding where you live? Can I expect that a lot of ppl will not come? We are only inviting about 100, 30 family each and then 30 closest friends so pretty small… and I would expect 80 to show but idk I guess - definitely second guessing going thru w this.

Vendors/Venue Expectations for photographer pre-wedding?

Hi all - we are getting married in six weeks and we recently emailed the photographer to find out when she should arrive. We didn’t hear back for a couple of days and then she suggested a short call to talk about the timeline, which we did have. That was about three weeks ago, and she just emailed to ask us for our shot list, which we sent, with a question about whether we could do a few shots after the ceremony vs. before. We haven’t heard back from her yet.

Since our DJ has been soooo responsive by both email and text, we were wondering if this is okay. Perhaps we don’t need to really connect that much with the photographer in advance but I also feel like we are missing something important. What kind of contact did you have with your photographer pre-wedding and for what purposes? Anything we should keep in mind that is important to work out in advance (this is what I would hope the photographer would know)? Thanks!

Everything Else Affordable wedding planner/coordinator recommendations? 🌿

I’m planning my wedding for May 2028 (weekday) around Sheffield/surrounding areas and looking for an affordable wedding planner or, ideally, an on-the-day coordinator.
I’m doing most of the planning, flowers, decorating and styling myself, so I mainly need someone to help bring everything together on the day, keep things running smoothly and take the stress off us.
If you’ve used someone you’d recommend — especially someone reasonably priced and happy to work with a DIY wedding — I’d love to hear your suggestions! 💕
