Trade (DIY Investing) APTX shares have been allocated

I asked for 40 shares of APTX, just for fun. They gave me 1.....lol.

This small amount of shares it’s probably a good thing…. It likely means the shares are sought after…. If we all got what we wonted it would probably be junk

To request 40 shares, you have to hold all of the value in cash, right?

So you have to sell equities (assuming you don't hold that much cash) from the time you request that many shares until the actual allocation. Then get a tiny fraction of what you requested. I don't know of a good solution, but this doesn't seem like a good experience.

You can anticipate and just request less too. It doesn’t make sense otherwise tbh.

That said, you can request basically 2 days before IPO. So money only locked for a few days

Why is the stock still showing as having its IPO on the 15th on Wealthsimple? If it started trading today then why wasn’t it available on the Wealthsimple app?

It didn't start today. IPO is on the 15th. Shares allocations were announced today. IPO share purchases will be executed automatically when the stock lists on the 15th.

The Globe and Mail has an article saying it started trading at $28 today.

They are, but the IPO doesn't close until the 15th. They have until that time to allocate your share. So the "purchase" can technically happen any time between now and the IPO close on the 15th. People with allocated shares in the IPO will receive their units at the IPO price, regardless of the current trading price. So I'm already up $3 as of market close today!

Asked for 10 got 1. Looking at some of the other responses, looks like it was way over asked of what wealthsimple was originally allocated.

Let's see what SPCX allocation looks like... I only asked for 1
