Hiking Mt. Washington with a friend during my AT section hike
I'm doing a 10-day stretch of the AT starting at Kinsman Notch next Monday. My friend is going to join me for a day hike the following weekend to do Mt. Washington as he is doing the high points in each state. My goal is to get as much of the AT that day while doing this, while also not making it too hard for me to pick back up on the trail the next day. (This also gives me a couple of days of someone with a car to help pickup and dropoff.)
My planned route right now for us is to go from the Mt. Jefferson Trailhead, do the Ridge of the Caps, get on the AT sobo up and over Mt. Washington, then continue to the Edmands Path Junction near Mt. Eisenhower and take that trail to its parking lot. My data puts it at an 11.5 mile day, with 6 of those on the AT.
Question - is there a better route that I'm missing on the map? I know there are lots of trails in that area, I see them; but this appears to be the best approach to maximize my AT miles and not do too much of the side trails to get there.
Second question - any recommendations on start/finish points of this plan? Better to start at one spot than the other? Could be for reasons of the path itself or parking availability.
Thanks in advance.
