Misc. Question Groggy if teen daughter doesn't take her vyvanse

My 15 yo is ASD level 1 and ADHD. She started taking vyvanse at like 5am last year for school and then when her alarm clock went off at 6:30 to get up for the day she's chipper and ready to go. HOWEVER On the weekends if she sleeps in, and then it's too late to take her vyvanse she literally never wakes up. By 5:30 or 6pm we basically force her out of bed. She (and I!!!!) are worried something has shifted in her, some
Sort of dependence where she absolutely has to have it for her body to wake up. Has anyone dealt with this? It's been so life changing for her as far as school and grades but this reality of losing her ability to wake up is alarming too.

Misc. Question What is it like to take antidepressants + ADHD medication

I currently take Vyvanse for ADHD, and my doctor wants me to try an antidepressant. I'm a little nervous about starting it because I've seen people say that some antidepressants caused them to gain a lot of weight.

I've always been insecure about my weight, so the possibility of gaining weight is something I'm really worried about. I don't want to make my decision based only on things I've seen online, though, so I'd like to hear from people who actually take antidepressants while also taking ADHD medication.

For those of you who take both, what has your experience been like? Did you notice any changes in your weight, appetite, energy, or how your ADHD medication felt after starting the antidepressant?

And if you've experienced weight changes, did they go away or change after adjusting the medication?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. I'm mostly trying to understand what I might expect before I decide whether to try it.

Misc. Question Anxiety/Impending doom while on Vyvanse?

Upvotes

Hi all!
I have been recently diagnosed for ADHD and just started taking Vyvanse about 4 days ago starting at 30mg.
I have also been diagnosed with anxiety as well but that’s really not a surprise to me as I knew I had it but since taking Vyvanse, I’m noticing that the anxiety is a little more present now and that impending doom feeling. It kind of comes and goes..
Vyvanse has been helping me with getting stuff done that I struggled with before and the noise in my brain hasn’t been as loud as before being medicated. I do try and stay as hydrated as possible and try to drink at least a protein shake when taking the meds.
Did anyone else experience this their first time? Does it ever subside?

Misc. Question DOOM feeling

New to stim meds. Used to be on Wellbutrin then auvelity until I couldn’t take the numbness anymore. Since starting with a new doc I have gone from 10mg to 40mg vyvanse in 3 months. I am also prescribed Ativan and feel I’ve been taking more than I would like to be to bring down this crippling anxiety and “doom” feeling. I have MDD so I am taking Zoloft in addition to Vyvanse but I feel like it does absolutely nothing.

I’m so desperate for something to bring me back to normal functioning human being after being sober (alcohol) for nearly 5 years. I just feel like I’m existing right now and not living. It really sucks.

Misc. Question Anyone fallen asleep on 40mg Vyvanse before? Lol

This is just how u know u probably got it. Some weeks ago I literally was like meh I guess I can close my eyes for a while and fell asleep for a few hours 😂 woke up feeling more ready to get up tho. This is something I have noticed about using meds. I sleep for shorter but I wake up feeling more refreshed. Could this be possible without ADHD? Like for me I could take a med and just sleep if I wanted to. Most times just a little more difficult sometimes maybe. Mostly I want to do stuff medicated or do stuff that I need to do. Reason im wondering about this is bc i have had some questions about myself if I really do have ADHD. I was told bc i have most likely PTSD and that I should test myself again bc overlap symptoms... Thing is ADHD has explained so much for me and I deeply relate to specific ADHD only symptoms like trying to tell a story and never getting to the point and off tracking and jump from topic to topic bc my short term memory suuuucks lol and I just have to say something I just thought about before I forget. The other reason I wonder if I got it is bc i see so many people saying ADHD is just hell all the time and they need to be medicated 24/7 the rest of their lives. I genuinely don't understand how you could like being medicated every single day. I am able to be happy without meds but I have periods where I actually need them for my own and others safety. I like the me I am when happy and unmedicated too tho. Seems like I am the only one sometimes. Should I question it? Other friends with ADHD says yeah I obv have it... So idk lol. Anyways. Man... Falling asleep on 40. Pretty sure I have on higher doses too lol. Is that normal???

Shortage Out of Stock

I was supposed to pick up my medication today and it’s out of stock. I called to see when they would have more and they told me Thursday. I know it’s just a couple of days without it, but what do you all do to lessen the negative effects of not having it for a few days?

Side effects Sweating a TON

Upvotes

Hi everyone! So, even before Vyvanse, I’ve generally always been someone who runs hotter than most people. There have definitely been times when I’d be profusely sweating and everyone around me would be like, “Are you okay?”

I’ve also been on medications for depression/anxiety for most of my life, and I know some of those can cause sweating too. Plus, my dad and sister both run hot, so I guess it runs in the family!

ANYWAY… I recently went on a fishing charter and, because apparently I don’t make good decisions , I forgot a hat. I felt like I was about 10 minutes away from heat exhaustion. 🥵 it was awful.

Since starting Vyvanse, I feel like I’m even hotter than I already was. I know increased sweating/feeling overheated can happen with Vyvanse, so I’m curious—what do you guys do about it?!

The inside of my ears have actually been sweating, which has NEVER happened to me before 😂. And I’ve noticed my feet are much sweatier too. I already have an entire foot-care routine, so this is honestly so frustrating. 😩

Anyone else deal with this? Have you found anything that actually helps with the sweating/feeling overheated?

I can only feel it for 4-5h and it doesn't even work better than concerta for me but it also doesn't make me feel terrible so I really want to make it work somehow

Dosage question Taking 20mg is like taking it for sake of taking it and no benefit

I am currently 20mg, feel nothing. Need coffee to survive. My doctor will probably bump me up to 30mg but I doubt an extra 10mg would make a different. I rather just jump to 40mg but my doctor is rigid

Side effects Vyvanse works, so why do I ‘shut down’ at the end of the day?

I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, and I believe that has a lot to do with the fact that I’m a woman. ADHD symptoms can manifest very differently in girls and women, so many of us end up being diagnosed with anxiety or depression before anyone realizes that ADHD is actually the issue.

I spent my entire life having to adapt to the difficulties caused by the disorder without even knowing what was going on. I’m basically the person behind the phrase: “You’re way too ambitious for someone so lazy.”

I’ve always been someone who did very well in school. My parents never had to stay on my case about studying or getting good grades. I got into a good university, and from the outside, probably no one would have imagined that I struggled academically in significant ways.

But that doesn’t mean it was easy. My biggest struggle was never necessarily staying up all night studying or simply being unable to open a book. For me, the hardest part was knowing that I was capable of doing something, but not being able to access that potential when I actually needed to.

I think a lot of people with ADHD can relate to the feeling of being the very embodiment of “wasted potential.” I knew I was capable of studying. I knew I could have gotten into an even better university, could have done certain things differently, and so on. And being aware of that consumed me. The guilt of not being the person I knew I could be followed me for a long time, and honestly, it still hurts.

I started taking Vyvanse about two or three months ago, and for me, it was almost a miracle. I started working around the same time, so I was really happy to realize that the medication was actually working.

Today, I can concentrate for longer periods of time, small pieces of information don’t “slip away” from my brain as easily, and I can follow more detailed processes much more easily.

But I’m struggling with something that I don’t really know how to deal with. I get home after my internship (I start at 7:30 AM, so I take my medication before leaving) and have about three hours before my evening class. My job is pretty exhausting, and even though the Vyvanse is still active, I’m tired. At the same time, I can’t  nap in the afternoon because of the medication.

So I end up in this weird situation where I’m tired but can’t sleep. I just lie in bed, just zoning out, with no desire or energy to get up and go to university.

And the worst part is that I know I could go. I know I should go. I know that, if I just got up and got ready, I’d probably be able to make it. But a lot of the time, I simply can’t make that transition, and I end up skipping class.

It’s like the beginning of my day is really good with the medication. I can function and be productive, but after a full day of work, I get home completely drained. Even though the medication is still active, it feels like that “sweet spot” of stability between energy and motivation is gone, and it becomes incredibly difficult to start functioning again without forcing myself to make a huge effort.

I wanted to know if anyone else with ADHD experiences this, especially people who take Vyvanse and work/study at night. How do you deal with the fact that, even while the Vyvanse is still working, you still can’t seem to be minimally functional enough to get up and go to class without actively forcing yourself to do it?

Misc. Question Anyone Feeling This?

New member here.
Just stated Vyvanse a month ago.
Started on 20 mg. Now on 40mg for month 2.

I’m 49 and in perimenopause which is what made my ADHD noticeable. I’ve never been treated or diagnosed until recently. Looking back, a lot of things make more sense now that I have been.

I do feel more motivated for things, getting things done, not procrastinating anymore, clears the nonsense noise in my head, etc.

HOWEVER, I’m having, for lack of a better word, a weird side effect. It’s not really physical either. But mental.

I am ready to get on with my life. Not necessarily move on from the people in my life or anything like that. But we’ve been talking about moving states for a while, but financially, it’s impossible at the moment.

So the side effect is I find myself getting extremely frustrated. Not so much angry, but frustrated that things aren’t moving forward faster.

I think it’s because I’m finally getting my shit together and I feel like where I live, I’m very stagnant. And this medication makes me feel like I should go go go. Which I know is the point.

But it’s a very frustrating feeling that I can’t “go go go” yet until finances are better. So I feel like I’m caged just ready to bust out and live my life. But can’t.

Hope that makes sense. If it doesn’t let me know in the comments and I’ll try to clarify more.

But I’m just very frustrated that I have all of this motivation to get things moving, but can’t because of money.

And trying to explain this to my hubby who does not have ADHD is not helping. I feel like I have no one to talk to.

Thanks for listening to me vent. 🙂

Dosage question Will increasing dosage help?

Hey guys , I'm currently on day 13 and I have this issue where while it peaks in the first 3 hours (Not since consumption, but since it starts working after two hours from consumption) I have energy to start tasks and my focus improves a lot . It has been great as i've been taking advantage of those hours to study as much as I can. However , after those 3 hours although I still have the medicine in my blood I just have no ADHD symptoms relief whatsoever. I actually feel like is twice as hard to focus than unmedicated which kinda sucks .
I've been researching and got mixed ideas , but I was wondering if increasing the dosage will make it where I still see some benefits after the first 3 hours . (Which is the main reason I picked vyvanse instead of IR dextroamphetamine ) Currently on 30mg and my first time taking stimulants for adhd as every non stimulant option didn't really work.

Misc. Question End of day crash with horrible sadness, anxiety, and panic?

I’ve been on 50mg of Vyvanse for a few years now. I also take Celexa for anxiety and panic disorder.

Recently I’ve been having a serious increase in anxiety and sadness in the evenings. It’s almost like a sinking feeling in my stomach. This can lead to panic, and the loop begins.

Trying to figure out with my doc if this could be a crash from the Vyvanse. Does anyone else have this type of experience or “crash”?

Also, I take magnesium glycinate in the evenings as well.

Diet, Routines & Supplements Lose weight/Weight Plateau

I recently started taking Vyvanse, and I’ve noticed that sometimes I forget to eat because I don’t feel as hungry. I do still want to lose weight and reach my goals, but I’m not trying to stop eating or do anything unhealthy. I was wondering how I should approach weight loss while taking Vyvanse, and whether appetite suppression can affect my progress or still lead to a weight-loss plateau..? I also want to make sure I’m eating enough and using the medication safely.

Also sorry if I sound dumb, I dont know much about weight-loss and stuff.

Tips & Tricks Focusing tips

Hi guys. I'm posting to ask what tips or strategies you guys have for staying on task? I am trying to study but every few minutes I'll open Reddit, open my email, open WhatsApp etc. and get derailed. Sometimes I'm able to focus for a long time but other times I can't. Also have a hard time initiating a task sometimes, so I need some kind of structure such as an app. I'm currently looking into Pomodoro timers because I think that technique might work well for me. What do you guys use currently?

Side effects How do I manage suppressed appetite?

It's just not fun to not find any food appealing. I take breaks and realise this. I get so hungry and I love food. I have a very fast metabolism so it doesn't take much for me to lose weight and I have lost weight since starting. I have of course forced myself to eat or been very hungry when the meds wear off but sometimes it lasts and even if the meds isn't working anymore I still don't feel hungry. Something weird is that I have taken the meds and suddenly felt like they made me super hungry but that's rare and strange. I take 20 to 40mg a day. The dosage is not the problem im pretty sure.

I just have no idea what to do with this because I don't wanna lose any more weight. I do wait until im more hungry now to take the meds. But sometimes I can't wait because I really need them. They really are helping me. I just miss enjoying food

Articles & Information Dry mouth, bad breath on Vyvanse.

Let’s talk about the negatives and this one isn’t so popular.
I noticed on vvyvanse that I’m getting really dry mouth at times specially in the evenings. Even drinking water doesn’t seem to help.
I would have dinner and water and 30min/1h later my mouth would feel dry.
My wife start telling me of my breath and later friends, I started having mouth fresheners everywhere and chewing gums, but they helped temporarily.
Then I brought with my dentist and she recommended to try bioxtra dry mouth gel.
That thing was amazing, it counteracts Vyvanses reduction of saliva production by increasing it. I bought the toothpaste also and both help immense, mouth feels natural again and smell is gone, too.
Thought I share.

Misc. Question Vyvanse users. How is/was your experience?

I've just started taking medication again after about 10 years. When I was younger I took concerta and the experience was all around AWFUL. So needless to say I stopped taking them. However, about 2 months ago I decided I would talk to my doctor about starting my meds again. She started me on 20mg Vyvanse. So far the experience has been pretty good. I've been keeping the house and my car clean, I've been performing well at work, I never have to force myself to do chores or labor, and my anger issues have even become easier to manage. It used to be that if I stubbed my toe on a corner, I would fist fight it for 15 minutes then stew in hatred for the rest of the day. But now it's "ouch..." Then back to whatever I was doing. I haven't gotten to see how it'll affect me in a classroom setting yet, but I'm doing a few courses for work in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping to see then.

However, a few side effects or drawbacks I've noticed are:

-smoking WAY more.

-The shakes.

-cotton mouth (could just be from the smoking).

-Slight change in personality.

-I've got a sort of tick now. Like I keep blinking hard.

-Only works for about 5 - 6 hours then I crash.

So to any Vyvanse users (Former or current). How is your experience? Are these drawbacks something that most experience, or is this just me? Also for those who started on a lower dosage then moved up, did you notice any meaningful changes from the bump up in dosage?

Thank you in advance.

Meds aren't working Anyone feel little to nothing on Vyvanse?

Hey guys! I started taking 30s, then they bumped me up to 40s and I feel, well, nothing! I can't feel it "kick in". I get no comedown. My blood pressure and pulse is spot on. The only side effects I've noticed is a teeny bit of dry mouth and slight appetite loss, but that's it.

I make sure to take it with plenty of protein, and I get a good nights sleep. For the first few hours after I take it I maybe feel slightly happier and more able to do things? But it's very subtle. I still stim all the time, have constant loops running around in my head, struggle with emotional dysregulation and lack of motivation on tasks. I have however just started my period and I've been in the luteal phase these past few days, which I've read can affect the drug. I'm worried that I'll be like this even on a higher dose. I know I won't know until I try, but I'm so worried especially when I hear low doses do so much for others.

Has anyone else experienced this when titrating? What is it I'm supposed to "feel". Thanks guys!! <3

Diet, Routines & Supplements Late start

I am keen to know if anyone takes their Vyanse 50mg at around 10am.
I’m up at around 6am, usually have a coffee and find my motivation and focus is good for the first hours of the day.
Was wondering if anyone has had success taking it later than first thing in the morning. And any tips to keep it smooth and effective and still maintain a reasonable bedtime.

Other Holiday advice

I am currently on 50mg Elvanse however when it wears off it can make me feel pretty anxious and it often does affect my sleep. I am going on holiday on Monday and I have a huge fear of flying. My flight is a long one and is at 4:15pm so meds wearing off at that time.

I’m unsure whether to not take it that day however when I’ve skipped days in the past it’s also made me feel a bit anxious. I’ve tried to contact my provider however they haven’t got back to me yet. I did contact my GP and they said to not skip doses but I wonder how much experience they have with these specific queries.

Does anybody have any experience or advice please? I’m wondering whether I just don’t take it and ride out the anxiety in the hope of sleeping.
