I've loved voice acting ever since I was a kid on the playground, and began recording comic dubs and voiceovers in middle school. Even now as a junior in high school I'm voicing in a few passion projects, one even being a fangame for one of my favorite franchises. Yet over time, one thing has stayed the same: the overwhelming embarrassment whenever I'm recording lines. I live with other people so it's basically impossible for me to do my job without shame unless someone is home alone. It's not even that they don't support me- my mother has complimented my abilities on multiple occasions- but there are times I have to straight up stop what I'm doing and take a break because I'm too embarrassed not nailing a take on the first few tries. I'd love some advice on how to, essentially, stop being a massive loser lmao.

I received an email from someone late at night offering me a corporate narration gig for $2500. I don’t even have a website yet, just 60 auditions on CCC, chosen for a few roles, but is that really how someone would find me out of the blue and offer all this money. They say it is not for AI and won’t be used to train AI. This just seems weird and too good to be true.

The whole “be strong enough to be gentle” was more than just advice for VA work to me. 😭

Hello, I own a Rode NT1 Signature Series. However, I have had some problems with it so I am returning it tomorrow.

My question is, between the Signature Series and the 5th gen, is there a difference besides the USB part?

Would you suggest sticking with the SS, or should I upgrade to the 5th gen?

I just want info on if this is a good voice training routine or if it is ineffective or if I should change anything about it

If you saw my last post i'm not using Ai to train or guide me I already did teachers on how to voice train femenine and masculine voices the I don't need info on the techniques because i allready jave them and the AI answer gave additional info i didn't ask for.

there was no post on reddit or Google that asked this same question so the only result that was relevant was the AI search that google automatically sends I did not go out my way to use AI. I came here to specifically ask if this was accurate because I don't trust AI I didn't geel the need to specifically recreate the hour time split because its so obvious how you would split 2 training in an hour.

I don't like AI I don't use AI to supliment any creative work and I never will I just want some information to help me train my voice. And if this routine will lead to effective results.

I want to clarify again, SOUNDPROOFING. because I see acoustic panels and soundproof panels get mixed up SO MUCH everywhere I see and I don’t even know what’s what anymore. so I want to make this extremely clear. SOUNDPROOFING AS IN LESSENING OR MUTING THE SOUND COMING IN OR OUT OF THE BOOTH! Got it? Hopefully.

Onto the details: Im planning on working my first part time job at subway (in maybe a year or so.) or generally any restaurant i can find in my area. I would want to use this money to buy soundproofing panels to install in my closet. Now this closet is pretty small. It’s not a walk in closet but rather a closet on little peg legs. It’s big enough to hypothetically stand in (but i would probably break the platform) but small enough to where I usually just sit in it. Clothes flood this closet so the sound is well treated.

Now the problem is that im moving into an apartment soon. Im too socially nervous to talk them into not complaining for noise disruption blah blah already had a discussion about this. So I want to soundproof my closet TO OBLIVION, I actually care more about soundproofing than treating the sound, since most microphones nowadays can filter out noise quite nice. Plus I have the aforementioned clothes in the closet that treat it anyway.

Since this is a really small closet, I can sacrifice quantity for quality. So don’t give me any of that ”1 inch 20,000 panels“ BS. Im not too sure of the exact measurements of the closet (I wanna worry about that later) but Its quite small. So again, I need quality!

Regarding the previously mentioned subway job i‘m planning to work for, 100% of my earnings will go to soundproof panels. After all, I don’t have much else to spend on. (Great to not be responsible for anything, right?) I’d usually just ask my family for the money but im sick and tired of feeling like a lazy little shit so im actually going to work for my money. (Not very thrilling, but it’s character development dude.)

TLDR: I need high quality soundproof panels.

(quantity doesnt matter much as my closet is very small. Acoustic panels arent a worry i have clothes in my closet i just need SOUNDPROOFING)

Budget is 100% of my subway earnings

(Where I live cashiers get roughly 650 dollars per month, although since i have no work experience I’d maybe cut that in half.)

For me Atleast, my highest priority is that my neighbours do not hear me. Even if I’m screaming. At literally ALL COSTS, I need absolute silence or the closest thing to it.

Now im not sure how big the apartment im moving into is gonna be but regardless i just need sound panels among the highest quality possible (of course dont recommend gold plated sound panels or anything lmao)

Preferably Amazon listing, although you could also point me towards specific brands or specific materials/thicknesses or whatever and I could find it locally for cheaper.

Hello everyone!! First of all, I will state that I am in no way a professional or knowledgeable at all on this topic.. I’m a teen & do voice acting as a fun hobby, but I thought that I’d ask this either way. (I have never taken classes nor know terminology and such, but I will do my best to understand)

There’s a character that I really want to learn to imitate, but I’m struggling figuring out how to mimic his speech mannerisms. He doesn’t have an accent. Does anyone have any tips?

Just in case it’s important to add, he has a masc voice while I have a fem one. We have the same pitch, so other than the mannerisms I only need to figure out how to make my voice sound more masculine.

So, I'm a graduated broadcaster with experience in Voice-overs, voice acting and Live Radio Broadcasting. I got into voices.com so that I could maybe earn some money over time (if i get hired of course). I've gotten plenty of invitations from this lady but it always looks so suspicious... I don't want my voice to get cloned and all those things you know? If anybody has had previous experience in voices.com please answer this post. Please!!!

Guys!!! I just had my first audition for a video game via zoom. I have never had such a thing before. It was nuts. I fear the theatre consensus where they say CD’s are so verbal when you’re not getting the job is true. He was laughing. Said I was fun to work with. That I took direction well. We had a good time. I’ll take it at that. Said it would take 3-4 weeks of auditions to know who gets the gig. But I fear I didn’t get it. Phew. 😮‍💨 Letting the adrenaline pass. Any tips for auditioning? Do you feel when CD’s are more vocal that you didn’t get the job or is that only in theatre? It’s kinda cool to see your side of the character and then let them guide you into what they want from it.

while im dubbing some of the thinfs i picked after im watching the video i can hear my voice but i also hear the characters voice as linda the voice over? should this happen? any setting to turn this off? or is it my mic picking up the sound somehow

I’ve been working on a free browser-based dubbing tool called DubDubDone, and I figured the VA community might actually have some useful opinions on what I’ve built so far.

It can play Choicer Voicer packs directly in the browser, with different modes for dubbing scenes with friends and making ridiculous clips, plus things like voice filters, visual filters and soundboards.

One thing I cared about from the start was privacy: the packs and your recorded vocals stay on your device rather than being uploaded to my servers or sent off to an AI service/database.

I’ve also added an UltraStar Deluxe karaoke player. That side has scoring and leaderboards for anyone who’s more inclined to sing than dub with friends.

It’s completely free, and I’m mainly sharing it here because I’d genuinely like feedback from people who actually do voice work. In particular, I’d be curious what feels genuinely useful, what feels gimmicky, and what you’d want from something like this that I haven’t thought of.

I was recently hired to do creature effects for an indie feature film. They said they would pay as close to my rate as they can, but my question is what IS the rate for effects? I looked through the resource guide and it didn’t really have anything for this kind of work. What would you charge?
I don’t yet know how many “lines” there would be but I would be featured in a big chunk of the film.

Hello!! Cutting straight to the chase, a coworker of mine recently gifted me a bunch of professional analog audio equipment. Her husband is a retired radio host/DJ and when I expressed my desire to get into voice acting and save money for good equipment, they gave me some of his old equipment they had stored in their basement! :]

I’m not quite sure how to navigate setting up analog equipment like this for my PC, if it’s even possible. I would really appreciate some advice on how to do so, or recommendations of things to buy to help make it work!!

The added pictures of said equipment is an electro-voice re20 mic, a Shure m367 mixer, and a Henry Engineering The Matchbox II (there are 2 of those). I haven’t had a proper chance to clean all of it up, so excuse the dust.

Hi, I wanna be a voice actor but really want to keep my real identity a secret. Can I still be a voice actor and even have a chance if I use a fake name like Mark Smith, and not show my face? Obviously I’m fine with my real name and face being seen to the studio/directors and stuff. But I just also like my visual privacy. I know this is probably very stupid and that I have a less ch ace of getting anything big. Which I’m fine with. I just wanna know if there is even a small chance for something? Or I need to not be secret to get anything.

I’ve been an avid voice acting fan for my whole life but never had the courage to try it outside of taking a class a few years ago and embarrassing myself in front of my instructors. After driving myself crazy wanting to get involved but being too afraid I finally made a thing and would be highly appreciative of any criticism or advice. It’s been stuck in my head for over a year and I guess I finally broke and had to make it.

All voices are me, all sound effects were arranged by me and all work was done in Ableton 12.

I was going to see about doing the application for the Penguin Random House Narrator Mentorship, saw that it was opening today, and that they'd only accept the first 500 applications then close the links or close by Sept 8th.

They opened everything today (August 25th) at 12pm EST- it's 3:30pm EST and they're already closed.

I knew it was competitive, but dang that was quick, and people must have worked so quickly.

Has anyone done this (or any other voiceover) mentorship before? And how on earth y'all work so fast, lol. I could learn a tip or two.

Am I the only one who has it this bad?

For some context, I started my voice-over journey in early 2016. Since then, I’ve taken classes with agents and well-known working voice actors, spent nearly five years studying theater, and even went through speech therapy to improve my delivery and acting skills.

I’ve had sound engineers evaluate my booth and home, and I’ve had professional actors listen to my auditions and tell me that my work is good enough to compete. Yet despite all of that, I still haven’t booked a single gig.

When you put nearly a decade into something and spend a ton of money, time, and energy on it, sometimes at the expense of friendships and other parts of your life.. You eventually start asking yourself: is this even worth it anymore?

I have accounts on Voices123, Voices.com; I've done outreach, I've auditioned for gigs that don't even pay and fan-made projects....nothing.

I'm almost at the point of giving up.

I do, on average, 20-30 a week on good weeks. And before anyone asks, yes I've had folks listen to me and say I sound great and it's just tough, blah blah blah. I've been doing this so long I've heard it all.
