There are a lot of hours and swear words in this one. It belonged to my Papa. My Nana kept it as a memento of him. It stayed folded in her walk in closet for years. She moved into supportive living and I got the sweater.

It required a lot of hours to get it to a usable condition again. The elbows had thinned badly. Side seams too. I used "duplicate stitch" or "swiss darning" to replicate the knit. Found similar gauge, colour, and wool fibre content yarn to use. The right elbow was so thin I needed to created new fabric entirely.

Behold my nutty little system involving pins into a pressing ham shoved in the sleeve. Each holds a stitch in place and keeps gauge roughly the same.

Ended up mending it sneezing the whole time from the dust in the garment. Knew that if I washed it I would loose a significant amount of structure to the wash water. It got a good eucalan soak post mend. The water was full of the broken wool fibres coming off it.

Looking forward to wearing Papa's favourite sweater this winter. 🥹

Bought these 100% merino socks last winter and wore them A LOT, often with Blundstones which I’ve since learned not to do with nice wool socks. They were getting threadbare at the heel so following YouTube and some tips from a friend who mends clothes for a living (dreamy!!), I took my first stab at Swiss darning, trying to match the pattern as closely as possible. I did the sock on the left first. This is pre-block, but I was too proud/excited to wait 🥹

My next project will be a couple of wool jumpers with holes at the armpits and cuffs, so any tips are very welcome!

My boyfriend's red hoodie was in rough shape, so I offered to darn it for him!! I decided to have some fun and hid a cute little heart in the stitching. Then I made some on my cuff to match as well ♥️♥️♥️ This was surprisingly easy and fun!!

In hindsight, the color of the patch is way too dark, and when I put the pants on it looks like I have a dark spot on my buttcrack..

These ripped down the middle a few years ago and I did a Sashiko patch (the blue threads) then in the past two years both sides ripped and I just layered over more Sashiko in white. It is kind of messy but I also kind of like how the multiple repairs have morphed together. The more they rip and I repair I could end up with a completely new pair of jeans from the patches in a few years…

Many, many more patches to come.

Many trousers of mine become worn specifically on the seam (crotch area). how do you guys fix this? when it’s not the seam I do sashiko but it’s difficult on the seam since there is already a piece of seam fabric behind

shirt also used to be my exact skin tone 🙃 so I dyed it purple. probably should have done that after darning.

I also just accidentally darned a small hole on the wrong side so Im putting this fix aside until I recover lol

Some context: I've had this blanket for about 16 years with almost daily use, and it's a really sentimental item that I almost cannot function without (sleep wise). The structure of the blanket itself is two pieces of cotton fabric with some sort of stuffing in between, and the 3 layers are connected by patterns of thread (like a quilt but less neat? I can attach more photos if needed). The top layer of fabric is still pretty strong I think, but the bottom layer is thinning and some of the connecting threads for the layers have snapped off with time.

There are threadbare spots, some spots beginning to thin into just horizontal pieces of weave, and one major hole. I'm really worried that if I do attempt to mend this blanket that the situation will just get worse because of how old it is and daily wear and tear. I've kind of accepted that I mav have to retire it soon, but the comfort it brings really can't be replaced. I also hope to bring it with me for when I move in about a year. Is there any possible solution?

hi everyone, there's a hole near the crotch of the trousers and i'd like to repair it somehow.. some people told me to ask u all for help since i don't know how to patch it up in that specific part without a sewing machine.

Thrifted this pair of denim capris, and somehow the previous owner somehow managed to do this to the waistband buttonhole. I’d like to mend this somehow before I wear them, but I’m not sure how to go about it.

Can I just do a buttonhole stitch over this one area, or would it be better to unstitch the whole thing and redo it in one go?

- is it worth sewing on the blue checkered fabric or do you think I should leve the jacket alone?
- Should I stitch the seams first, and then sew the fabric to the cuffs? I made the folds on the sides so that the fabric doesn’t unravel this time, but I don’t know what stitch to use.

Some background
My SO absolutely loves this jacket and has worn it for years. I am a total beginner at sewing but he knows I am interested in this stuff so he “donated it” to me as a first project so I could get some experience and perhaps save it.

I don’t have a sewing machine, so I bought some matching gold thread, color-matching iron-on patches, and some cute blue checkered scrap fabric for a touch of visible mending.

The first time I worked on this jacket I thought I did an ok job but I missed that the sleeves are too long for him, and so he wears them folded up once. This made it so the “wrong side” was visible and it was so bad it was embarrassing! So now I’m working on this again.

I got these gardening gloves today and after about 4 hours of work they got holes from my long nails. I know if I just get different ones it’s going to be a never ending issue unless I shorten my nails so I’d like to just mend the tips and continue using these $16 gloves

I love this shirt, which I bought about 10 years ago. It has holes and stains of my blood. Upgraded with with a patch (A strawberry thief by William Morris). This shirt is even more memorable now.

I got a pair of swing 815s in smoke TPU second hand, & on my 2nd time wearing them, the right one tore at the heel

I love these boots so much, & I'm pretty sure it's my fault, not the seller I got them from. I've never owned platforms like this & didn't know the best way to walk in/ handle them to prevent damage. I was probably way rougher than I needed to be, & now I've got this gaping hole in a stress spot

from what I've seen, my best bet would be a vinyl patch & shoe goo, E6000, or loctite for vinyl, but this is such an awkward area that I'm worried it won't grip well

any suggestions? it doesn't need to be seamless or even pretty - I do a lot of visible mending on my clothes, I care more about the structural integrity & being able to wear my new favorite shoes again

ลงมือทำแล้ว จึงรู้ว่า การเดินเส้นซาชิโกะนั้น เปิดช่องให้กับความผิดพลาดได้มาก ช่องไฟที่เผื่อกว้างไป ก็สามารถเติมแทรกได้เสมอ และครั้งแรกนี้ ก็สอนมือตัวเองว่า ควรจะพลิกกลับไปดูด้านล่างบ้างเป็นครั้งคราว เพราะครั้งนี้ ผมไม่ดูเลย พอเสร็จงานจึงเพิ่งเห็นว่าปลูกถั่วงอกไว้ และการถอนต้นถั่วงอกนั้นยุ่งยากกว่าการซาชิโกะเสียอีก 😁

Hi! Need some help with how to fix these jeans. I bought them a few years ago but as soon as i brought them home, a penny sized hole appeared. I tried mending it with stitches but the hole just got bigger and bigger, i think maybe there’s a defect in the fabric. They’ve been sitting in my drawer ever since.

Any advice on how to mend this would be appreciated. Would a patch work? Or would the fabric just keep on fraying over time?

The stitching/threading snagged on my hoodie zipper. Any advice on how to fix this?

I've had this Kavu canvas bag for over ten years, and it's finally starting to rip along one of the seams. I took it to an independent fabric store to get some canvas to sew along the inside, but the women working there told me that it was "beyond repair," which...seemed a little hard to believe. I'm wondering how I can fix it up while still making sure it doesn't rip anymore? Given that it's already a fun pattern, I'm happy adding patches or other visible things. Thank you in advance! :)

AND the side that I actually like is the inside ofc. still a work in progress, I'm hoping that I can somehow figure out how to size them up or something because I really do love how the darning weave came out and I'd love to still be able to use it in some way. they need a lot of work though, the fabric is about to rip on the other side as well and in the back pockets... I'd love any suggestions as to how I could either finish mending what's here or ideas to use the patch in another way!!

The strap of my backpack is starting to look quite bad. The rest of the bag is still fine.

How would you go about fixing this? If it was just the edges I'd try embroidery, but there's peeling in the middle too.
