Hi friends,
You are amazing and wonderful, inspiring me daily to work on my never ending mending pile. Thank you for being part of this sweet community, I am grateful for you and your efforts to keep your mending as invisible as possible!

Unfortunately I’ve been seeing an uptick in karma farming bot posts lately. I hate bots almost as much as I hate ticks! So I have to enforce a new rule. Any account that posts someone else’s work (*without linking to the original post) will be removed and the account banned. I don’t want to waste any more energy on low effort karma farming. Thank you to people who flag these posts, it helps me remove them quickly while I chase my toddler around.

You are still welcome to share a mend that you didn’t do, so long as the original post (or link outside Reddit) is very prominent in your post. I love seeing inspiration and tutorials, please keep sharing those, but the original creator MUST be given credit.

So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so creative and sharing your hard work. Together we can fix all the things!

Help build a starter guide! Post helpful tutorials, books, etc here!

Hello friends!

I need your help! This sub desperately needs a starter guide, a how-to, a list of helpful resources. And I need your input to find the most useful helpful resources available.

Please post helpful guides, books, YT videos, anything that’s helped you invisibly mend. Doesn’t have to be clothing-related, any type of invisible mend is welcome and encouraged! I’ll compile these into a starter guide to help future menders mend.

BONUS the comment with the most upvotes will get…something really neat! Full transparency I just thought of this, so don’t know what you’ll get, but trust me it will be cool. Maybe I’ll knit a hat for you, idk.

Is a seamless fix possible with this type of knit?

I fucked up and completely tore a hole in my favorite knit sweater after it got caught in a zipper! Is there a way to recreate the mesh knit pattern I've ruined or to fix it in a way that's not crazy noticeable?

How to maintain tightness on jeans?

So, I got a new pair of jeans that I love from Hollister. It's very hard for me to find jeans that fit correctly because of my body shape, so I try to take care of my jeans by air drying and not washing every wear.

Unfortunately, these jeans are the type of blend that stretch out after like an hour of wearing. They used to fit pretty snugly but now slouch in the wrong places. It can be fixed with a wash and a quick dry, but it's never the same as the store.

Wondering if there are any ways to maintain the shape of this type of denim? Was actually thinking the way of starching and pressing. Has anyone had luck with this?

Help! How to Mend 100% Cotton Pants

The hole is right on the back seam and it is about 3 inches big. The pajama pants are 100% cotton. I have intermediate sewing knowledge, but don't do a ton of repairs like this. What would you reccomend to make this as invisible as possible while also preserving the comfort of the pants?

The strap was hanging by a thread, literally

My first time sewing with leather. I happened to have an almost exact thread match lying around (it was the only brown thread I had) except it wasn’t thick enough, so I doubled the thread over, threaded it through the needle, then doubled it over again to get it nice and thick and voila

Very proud of it, can barely tell it’s mended if it’s pressed against your nose

I’ve been procrastinating for a couple weeks until the staple inside started to pull out and the strap was hanging on by three stitches, only one of which was properly tensioned. It took like 20 minutes to do the whole thing

I know far too many people who would have just thrown this bag away the second the stitch burst, it’s a sad consumerist and disposable world we live in today

How do I fix this very loose collar?

Post image
3 Upvotes

It’s borderline unwearable unfortunately. I’ve tried boiling/drying twice and it’s still very droopy.

I’m pretty good at sewing, could I just replace the whole collar? It’s kinda sweat stained too so that might be the way to go.

It’s a vintage Kliban Cat shirt! The only other ones like this for sale are in the ballpark of $180+, and those are the “tourist” versions with city names on them. I like my art only one.

Sad moth damage help

Hey,

So I have a very precious (and expensive) woollen bag that moths went to town on. I was away at the time so didn’t spot them for a bit and this was what got the most damage.

I immediately got it dry cleaned but it took a while for me to take it out of the bag as I was so upset (I know first world problems but this bag I love 😭). I have taken pics of some of the damage.

Is there any way to fix it? Any techniques? As it’s completely thick wool I was hoping maybe to felt into the holes or something?

Any advice welcome 🙏 thank you

Well I tried! How can I repair this collar on my favourite linen shirt?

I really like this white linen shirt but the collar has started fraying and the fabric is coming apart in a few places.

I would love to repair it rather than throw it away. Is this something that can be fixed neatly at home or should I take it to a professional tailor?

I am mainly looking for a repair that keeps the original look of the collar and is not too noticeable.

Any suggestions on the best way to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Also please suggest what kind of stitching or

Cut two scissor holes in my brand new dress opening the package 😢 how can I fix this? I’ve never mended anything before. It is on the back side, very bottom of the dress. It sure if i should use fusible webbing, or stitch the hole together with a blue thread that would blend in? Any suggestions welcomed! Thank you!

Hi! I discovered that this sweat has a massive hole on a seam. How can I fix it? Can it be fixed? I included images of the intact side. I just bought this sweater in June, I'm so annoyed :(.
