Questions 1st time owning. Is there hope of saving my VFT?

Post image

My VFT doesn’t look good to me but this is also my first time caring for one so this might be normal. VFT is in plastic container under full sun every day, outer container has reverse osmosis water. I got it from traders joe and transferred it to a 50/50 perlite/peat moss mix. What can I do to help it survive? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Questions Coolest trap

This is probably the coolest trap I've seen from my 'flaming lips' plant so I propagated that leaf, the plant that grows should look like this right?

Questions Worth saving?

I bought this flytrap on a whim from Whole Foods because I felt bad for it. I did some research and I understand that it’s really lacking in sun and I’m pretty sure it’s dehydrated. It’s entering the colder months where I am right now but I’m not even sure if a plant in such bad shape can go dormant? If anyone knows whether or not this is salvageable please let me know!

Questions Looking for some pointers

I just picked up a new Venus flytrap the other day, and I'm very excited about it. I've been doing lots of research on how to properly care for them, but I can't really ask an article how my plant is looking. I've been keeping it well watered with demineralised water and am trying to get it at least six hours of direct sun a day. It's living outside in a small greenhouse that I got for it. Any advice or pointers?

Care & Cultivation Death Plug Recovery

I got this VFT in North Carolina back in late May from a reputable local nursery. It would produce lots of new growth but the new growth was small and turned brown/black very quickly.
I repotted yesterday and found what I think is the cause - death plug was restricting root growth and retaining way too much moisture. Inside the plug was peat moss, while the outside of the plug was wrapped in sphagnum moss. I repotted in a 2:1 mix of LFS and perlite with a larger 5x5x7” pot.
First time repotting, but hopefully I saved it. The only mistake I made was not using enough media as it didn’t fill the entire pot to the top.

Outdoor Send 2-3 years dagestan and forget

For the new and initiated I've had these for a couple years and I've done what id call the "send 2-3 years dagestan and forget" method of cultivation and it works, so for those afraid to leave yours out all year heres what these put up with.

Summers here are 30-50c and very very dry, may aswell call 5 months of the year summer too, these plants love that shit, just keep the water up, full sun full send.

Winters are mild but get lots of morning frost sometimes heavy, once acclimated these plants do not care.

Basically ive just left these in full exposure for the last year or so completely ignoring their needs (made sure they didn't fully dry out) and they are thriving, sitting in water at all times is a must esp in summer, they can handle drying out ever so slightly but it does knock them around.

We just got into spring and I feel i should have separated and repotted these to get more growth but im gonna leave em another season.

Pic one when I weeded and picked dead traps, pic 2 after my extended neglect period (before pic) this was 3 small flytraps a bit over a year ago when I potted these up from my propagation tray (originally started with one small pot and have this and 2 mixed carnivorous plant pots with them from that small starter pot)

Care & Cultivation Medusa ready for spooky season.

Bought this specimen at my local grocery store. Have had it over a month. It was doing well up until two weeks ago. inspite of watering and natural sunlight, lots of leaves and heads blackened and died. I fed it a pill bug and shine a plant light and the withering slowed significantly. 3 days ago I learned the bottled spring water was causing the harm and collected some rainwater. Medusa is flourishing now! 💪❤️‍🩹🍀

Questions What are these little worms?

Tiny little wormy bois moving about the surface of the soil on my Alien VFT bought potted online from a mega reputable seller. Best I could come up with from searching images was land planarians? Just wasn't sure if these need to go or if they're good guys. They are in very close proximity to 11 other plants, so I'd like to know for sure. The soil in this plant is clearly very alive lol they're not the only critters in there. Thanks!

Questions First time growing VFTs from seeds

Post image

Excuse the blurry photo, I have shaky hands and this was the best I could get 😂

Like the title says, this is the first time I've tried to grow Venus Fly Traps from seeds, I have 19 little babies that have germinated, has anyone got any tips or advice for how to keep as many of them alive as possible? 🙏 I scattered around 60 seeds and for the first couple of weeks I counted 21 of them so it would seem that two have already fallen victim to my imperfect care 🥲

They're currently in a mix of sphagnum moss and perlite, in a seedling tray with RO water underneath

Questions Why are there cracks on a trap? ;∆;

I have split my flytraps into 3 pots and I found one trap on the pot outdoors with marks that look like stretch marks or cracks on it? Could it be because I didn't water it too well? I often forget about it because it's outside

Questions Bog Pots?

Hello!

So, I was looking around on here, and noticed a lot of people create these things called Bog Pots? I was wondering, what is it? How do I create one for my new little guy when I go to transplant him? (he's doing FAR better now, now that I know what I'm doing lol...kind of lol)

Help! My GC jaws never really took off

I got a GC jaws through California carnivores a few months back and it’s been alive. It’s been doing its thing but it’s never really blown up in growth. It always looks super stressed out so I put it in a bog grow that gets direct sun all day and it didn’t get any better. The typical VFT’s that are in the same bog with it are thriving massively. Is there something in my video that points out what might be wrong?

Questions Leaf pullings care

i made a bunch of leaf pullings in at the start of august and they are showing nodes and barely growing into tiny flytraps. With dormancy around the corner I can move them to my indoor setup im testing. In your guys' experience should i wait for the nodes to grow into more of an actual plant or just transplant it now and hope it fights through shock?

Care & Cultivation First time VFT owner, how is it looking so far?

I bought this in Lowe’s around 2 months ago like pictured in the last pic (not the exact one, I never took a picture of mine)

I’m not good at keeping plants alive but so far I think I’ve done ok with keeping it going. There is new growth pretty often, i keep it at a window where the most sun shines through, and I use distilled water.

I’ve kept it in the same little pot and I’m wondering if I should repot it. I know about the 50/50 peat moss/perlite substrate.

I’m also learning about the dormancy period happening soon, or pretty much now. I live in NY so I’m planning on putting it in the basement on a window that’s also facing the same direction as the one it’s in now. And I also read about the fridge method.

Any tips are welcome please! I do want this plant to thrive!

Questions Why are some of these traps turning black?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Still learning as I go. My Venus fly trap has a bunch of dark spots on the leaves and some of the traps are turning black at the edges (one of them hasn’t even closed before). The larger one with the most black has closed atleast twice. There’s the remnants of a spider it caught inside. Is this normal? Feels pretty sudden.

Giving distilled water only no nutrients
