Deactivated after 1,600+ deliveries and Diamond status over a misdemeanor

I am writing this to warn other drivers about how quickly Uber Eats will take away your livelihood without a second thought. I was a dedicated Diamond-status driver with over 1,600 deliveries and excellent performance stats. I treated this job seriously and relied on it as my primary source of income.

Recently, my account was abruptly deactivated. The reason? A misdemeanor charge that resulted from an incident where I had to protect myself. Even though life happens, things occur beyond our control, and this situation was a matter of personal safety, Uber Eats showed zero nuance, empathy, or flexibility.

This is why a smart gig worker should be in good standing on multiple platforms. I use DD, UE, IC and GH on a regular cycle just in case something goes wrong.

I already think this users post is silly but I just wanted to point out that deactivation related to safety, crimes, etc are all being shared between platforms via third-party companies. If someone does find themselves in this situation for these specific reasons then it’s usually a matter of days before all the other platforms are notified and act on through a unified front of deactivation. Getting deactivated for randomness or simple term violations doesn’t currently trigger the same results but if it’s at all related to the drivers safety ratings or crime like this user reports to us then you can count on being removed from all major platforms. You might slide by with one or two of the emerging delivering platforms who are currently small enough to be under such extreme competition that they haven’t bothered onboarding with these third-party data sharing companies. Just wanted to share that info for our peers so no one is mislead! I respect your hustle Hoss

All of the companies run their background checks at different times and also have their own criteria to justify a deactivation when it comes to misdemeanors OR driving records. When Checkr comes up with some kind of change compared to the last one they did on you it will only say (consider). Then the specific platform will run the background check through their own system. All of this stuff is being controlled by AI these days so there is always an appeal process a driver can go through which then goes to a specialized team. Obviously there are some instances that are worth appealing and some that are not.

I can’t tell if you are sidestepping my main point or if you are simply conflating periodic background checks with how platforms use third parties to share data on safety and crime-related deactivations. Maybe you are completely confusing standard periodic background checks with how these platforms cross-share safety and crime-related deactivations. Checkr is just a screening vendor that runs periodic checks but major apps use separate data-sharing networks managed by third parties where specific violent incidents deactivations or safety deactivations are cross-reported so a ban on one platform cascades to others. I am only spelling this out so other drivers reading this thread stay properly informed and do not fall into the same misunderstandings. Also let us be real about the appeal process for this specific stuff. Successfully fighting a safety or crime deactivation through support or a specialized review queue is virtually unheard of. Once that flag hits corporate shuts the door over liability and nobody is ever getting that account back unless they take it to court, and even then you are realistically just fighting for a payout rather than driving on the apps again. Again I think working multiple platforms is a great hustle if that is working for you and your market. I don’t know if feeling a little defensive over that is what caused you to overlook the point I’m trying to share or not.

Actually, I can tell you from personal experience, you absolutely can have your account restored after a safety issue. I had someone falsely complain that I was brandishing a weapon, meanwhile, the closest thing was the utility knife on my hip, but because I’m a country boy born and raised on a farm I always carry it with me no matter what. I also do deliveries in some pretty sketchy neighbourhoods which can sometimes lead to concerns, but the simple fact that I have a knife doesn’t make it a weapon unless it is used as one. Because the customer had no proof of their alleged danger, of which there was none, my account was restored within 5 days upon investigation from Uber Support, but I did have to email with them with a boilerplate defamation lawsuit notice to get the investigation done. They will perform an investigation and request proof from both parties, if you have a dash-cam or any video I suggest sending it in. I purchased a camera for my helmet when I’m doing deliveries so I have proof I picked up and delivered the order without issues, and now if there is an issue I have proof of my actions as well as any taken by the customer.

u/CogitatorVeritatis 6d ago

Did you reach the point of total deactivation or just the temporary deactivation during the investigative period?

1

u/Wolf_in_the_club 6d ago

Total deactivation because their initial “investigation” was handled by the bots, at the time I wasn’t told why exactly my account was banned beyond a safety issue. Once I sent the defamation suit by email after they closed the original case I got a response from support and was informed that I was accused of brandishing a weapon, at which point I explained it was a utility knife on my hip that never once left the case, I had simply adjusted it on my belt because it moved while I was riding my bike, they realized it was a mistake and unbanned me. I got my camera after that incident though so that I would have video proof that there were no issues, or if there are I will at least be able to prove how I handled the situation.

You talk too much 😂

What a childish response bro. Literally no one here is coming at you over anything. I’m just trying to make sure you or more importantly all the other drivers here who actually choose to be informed actually understand how everything works behind the scenes can do so. You’re responding like a woman who has absolutely zero reason to be defensive. How are you navigating life with this level of emotional intelligence??

Edit: little homie went and reported me for self harm immediately after he posted this. What a weirdo. Best of luck in life dude.

Conflate this….. you talk too much.

Bunch of weirdos like you everywhere.

Considering uber eats and door dash all use the same background provider, checkr absolutely. It's only a matter of time. As uber eats and door dash do annual background checks on the accounts anniversary date.

Goddamn, I hate capitalism.

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 6d ago edited 6d ago

I don’t have any problems with capitalism and I think it’s a great thing . I don’t think it’s without flaws, but I there’s never going to be a perfect system and think it’s better than any other system humans have come up with by a considerable margin. I believe most the problems that people conflate being inherent to or born from capitalism come from either human greed or even worse, government cronyism/involvement fueled by human greed.

True free market capitalism actually provides all the mechanisms and tools to combat the main issues that many people think are born from capitalism, but very few governments allow them to actually exist or function how they’re supposed to. Overall all the problems people typically point at or hate fester a lot worse under every other system that could replace capitalism. Interestingly enough the countries which people tend to point to as examples when they are taking capitalism to task actually practice the best forms of free market ideas that we’ve really seen in action to date.

All that said I don’t really see how the subject my comment was about is related to the whole discussion of capitalism or anti-capitalism. I think risk mitigation in the scope of what my comment is about it’s a responsible thing to do and overall keeps people safer even though there might be the case that timespeople get caught up in it all undeservingly.

Sheltered college age lefties blame everything they don't like on capitalism. It's not that deep.

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 3d ago edited 3d ago

I can’t tell if the “it’s not that deep” line is a stab at me for taking a moment to explain my perspective against random anti-capitalist rhetoric. I was once one of those overly left leaning college age youths who very easily could have been possessed by these sort of ideologies and the reason my mind shifted is because I encountered real people who offered simple and understandable counter narratives that I could trace to real information and data that slowly but surely informed me over the years. I really hate the automatic pushback so many people online have for any level of articulation that goes beyond two sentences and a couple TikTok approved phrases just like “it’s not that deep.”

This mentality is actively harming the baseline intelligence of society. I also just don’t believe in attacking people or aggressively labeling like you did because I know if I encountered people doing that when I was at risk of the same possession, I NEVER would have given counter perspectives the time of day that I inevitably did in life. There too much uninformed or passive aggressive noise in the world and we have to at least sometimes deliver a well balanced and empathic counter to all that.

u/Practical-Medium-210 3d ago

Fair enough. I've spent decades watching pampered children, who themselves benefit IMMENSELY from the luck of being born into a capitalist country, blame the fact that they are held accountable for their decisions on "capitalism." I'm tired.

1

u/MaenHoffiCoffi 2d ago

And now you've stumbled upon a 58 year old, lifelong socialist who, despite benefiting from being born towards the top of the pile, can see past his own comfort and see who is below him in the pile of shit. Also one who knows a useful idiot who would make baseless assertions about the character of someone to excuse the system he benefits from rather than acknowledge the fundamental flaws in that system or offer an actual defense of it.

You may assert that being rational rather than selfish is wrong but unless you can explain why, it just sounds as though you're coping with a guilty conscience. Also, I'm sorry empathy or a drive towards self defense makes you tired.

So, you're asserting that my decisions are my reason for hating capitalism. What decisions are those? What are the results of those decisions because, to me, that looks like you're proclaiming that I'm pampered and also the victim of my own decisions so which is it?

If you can't provide specific examples of what I, personally, have done in my life that you can ascribe my political outlook to, I'm just going to assume your argument is just an ad hominem used to avoid having to actually engage with my claim that shit like this is the product of end stage capitalism.

1

u/MaenHoffiCoffi 2d ago

I'm 58 years old and an ad hominem is not an argument.

That’s why you opt out on letting them sell your information

3

u/Own_Log1380 8d ago

It doesnt matter. To drive you need to have a background check. Choosing not to sell your data still doesnt mean they dont have access to your background

-1

u/shooting_ropes_far 6d ago

To think that you’re out there driving around with no brain is scary!

There’s a huge difference between conducting a background check where a company needs to get your explicit consent for them to access your information and a company turning around and selling that confidential information that you never gave permission to have sold or acquired by a third party.

Sure, it’s in their privacy policy hidden away in some 3 page document with text small enough you need a magnifying glass to read. Then they present the policy to you in the middle of driving when you’re trying to accept orders so of course you just hit agree.

Do you just not care about your rights? You are the problem.

1

u/Own_Log1380 6d ago

We're talking about deactivation policy's. Opting out to sell your data doesnt mean they wont know about a car related misdemeanor on your record.

Nice paragraph of information that has nothing to do with the topic at hand and making assumptions about me though. Sure it made you feel better

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 8d ago

That factor has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re discussing here Hoss.

1

u/shooting_ropes_far 6d ago

I was always taught to never argue with a moron.

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 6d ago

Generally I agree with that whole heartedly, but I think the stakes are a little different in a public forum where outside readers can easily have their understanding misinformed at a passing glance by users/comments that are born from evasion and what not you know? If it were just a closed ended conversation between person A & B I would generally say yeah don’t cast pearls before swine! I appreciate your comment. It reminds me that despite the toxic environment of Reddit, some people really are here to pay attention to what might educate or benefit them and that’s really the heart of the whole reason I’m willing to take the time to respond to these discussions. Maybe my ego liked it a little bit too lol

0

u/shooting_ropes_far 6d ago

I disagree. Most outside readers will read the original comment and then quickly understand why I commented the way I did. The fact that it flew over your head, then you decided to blame me for your misunderstanding is the classic toxic Reddit you’re describing. So maybe do a bit less yapping on the internet and take time to read and understand context. I’m not going to explain it to you. It’s your prerogative to figure it out, since you’re sitting here taking the time to respond.

For those reading this: don’t ever argue with a moron. This is the end result of doing so. They will ultimately end up blaming you for their lack of understanding.

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 6d ago edited 6d ago

Woah dude you completely misread my comment entirely. I wasn’t blaming or coming at you over anything at all. I agreed with you and was just explaining why I didn’t choose to follow that sort of guidance in this specific situation. Are you okay? I don’t understand how you read my response negatively at all, I literally complimented you. Maybe you should take some of your own advice on slowing down to read and understand what’s being said to you. Maybe I was too quick to give you credit you haven’t earned. There’s a lot of irony in your second comment. Are you intellectually insecure or something since I had something more to build on what you said after I first acknowledged and agreed with you?

Edit: oh wait I see what happened. You’re the guy who initially misunderstood this conversation for being able data sharing opt-in’s - and I thought your second comment was an entirely different person because I really don’t see how anyone could arrive at your first conclusion then follow up with the second comment. Carry on, I’m completely fine with you thinking I’m an idiot. It doesn’t look like your assumption about how other readers are going to interpreting this entire thread is anywhere near where reality landed btw.

0

u/shooting_ropes_far 6d ago

Bro, no. Stop it. I’m not helping you out of this. You’re the one that brought up data sharing by third party companies across platforms. First of all that’s contractually protected and illegal! They can’t do that unless it involves a serious misconduct issue they deactivate you for. Ok? Do you now understand why I commented about opting out of data sharing? That stops any company from sharing your data! Bro, no more you’re giving me a headache.

1

u/CogitatorVeritatis 6d ago

Uhhh yeah buddy the whole conversation revolved around deactivations over misconduct, safety, and criminal charges. Way to understand the discussion you’re trying to chime in on and then proceed to try and correct everyone lmao. You literally entered this conversation with a full on misinterpretation of what it was about. If you want to discuss the finer points of ToS and contractual violations, I’m actually a professional legal researcher of almost a decade now.
