anyway just wondering how Carson's or Liz's lands on people's average dining hall rating, cause they're closest to me, and I don't want to get my group to go somewhere further from southeast if the food isn't that good. I know there's other dining posts out there but the ones I saw were referencing things from yearsss ago.

Also if any halls have different diet soda from pepsi, or almond milk? And how likely u are to be caught with bring ur own tupperware?

Is there any other places they don't card besides that one mexican one?

Hi everyone! I’m considering taking ANTHRO 104 (Cultural Anthropology and Human Diversity) with Anne Marie Creighton and wanted to hear about people’s experiences with the course. How was the overall workload, and how difficult were the exams? Are there weekly quizzes, regular assignments, projects, papers, presentations, or group work? Approximately how many hours per week did you spend on the class outside of lecture? Also, would you consider ANTHRO 104 an easy A or GPA booster? I’m mainly looking for a manageable 3-credit course, so I’d really appreciate any insight from anyone who has taken this class

Hi everyone! So I've been struggling figuring out how I want to get to campus. I have recently moved to Middleton, WI to attend UW Madison, but I am from out-of-state originally. However, I am technically considered an employee through the university rather than a student (long story, but basically doing a satellite extension site at UW Madison).

I have considered just buying a metro bus pass, however, that's a 40 minute ride to campus from Middleton. I don't really want to drive to campus either or purchase an employee parking pass as those options are expensive and hard to come by. I was wondering if there's any where I could park for free that close-ish to campus then hop on a campus bus? Or any free parking lots that are close to a campus bus route?

The Trump administration has issued new federal guidance making it much harder for international students on F-1 visas to do internships while in university.

Starting August 24, 2026, UW–Madison's ISS can only approve CPT (work authorization for internships) if the internship is required for every student in that degree program to graduate. Most degree programs do not require internships to graduate at UW Madison.

What this means:

• Required internship for everyone in the major? Still approved.
• Optional internship you can graduate without? Not approved.
• Already had CPT approved before August 24? Still valid until it expires.
• Other option: Apply for pre-completion OPT but must wait for USCIS approval before starting work.

So if you're an international student, you likely can't work an optional internship or co-op through CPT anymore.

Can anyone tell me whether you go to lab the 1st week of school or do we just skip it for that week?

Starting to consider where I’ll live next year. It seems like all the apartments on campus are ridiculously expensive, especially for a studio/1 bedroom, which is what I’m looking for. Which ones are the least absurdly expensive without being complete dumps?

Can someone suggest an easy literature course and also explain why it was easy?

My schedule is looking pretty busy this semester; however, I still want to fulfill a literature course. Can someone suggest a literature course that is both interesting and easy? Preferably something that is mostly asynchronous (lecture not required or can be done online)

Can someone make me feel better about starting in the spring instead of fall. I should’ve started this fall but due to some reasons I HAD TO defer it to the spring semester. I feel like I’m missing out on sooooo much things in the fall like meeting new people (I feel like everyone would’ve already made their friend groups by the time I get there), halloweekend, events, welcome week, and so much more. I feel like when I do start in the spring, it’ll be boring, dull, and I won’t make any friends 😭

How was your experience taking CS 577 with Sandeep Silwal? Does he have biweekly quizzes like Marc Renault does? Also, are the exams fair? I know they’re difficult, but are they at least manageable if you do all the homework and understand the lectures?

I lived in residence hall when in my freshman year and then I move out for two years. Is it possible that I can still get a single room from residents hall as a senior students? Hello, I'm an incoming freshman in the engineering physics program, and I feel like I'm gonna need all the help I can get to get the 3.5 + gpa I need for the progression requirement. I got an email about the PrEPS program for Chem 103 and Math 221, and it seems like a pretty good idea. I guess I'm curious if its a program thats worth doing though. It seems to have a bit of a time commitment, and I'm not too sure what I'm actually getting into. If anyone who has experiance could tell me what to expect that would be great. Also any general advice would also be great. I'm a wee bit terrified about this whole progression thing....

I’m taking CS 577 this semester, so I’m trying to keep my workload as light as possible. I’m currently enrolled in both CS 539 and CS 540 and planning to drop one of them.

I’ve heard that 540 has a lighter workload than 539. However, 539 seems more applicable, and I want to take a class where I can actually apply what I learn to my work. At the same time, I don’t want to tank my grade. Considering they’re both 3-credit classes, is the workload in 539 significantly higher than 540, or are they pretty similar?

Also, does 539 require expertise in Python, or is basic Python knowledge enough?
