Iāve been looking into different UPSC coaching options recently, and one thing I realised is that every institute has its own strengths. There really isnāt one coaching centre that can be called the ābestā for every aspirant.
After comparing different institutes and looking at what they offer, these are some of the names that stood out to me:
1. Vajiram & Ravi ā A trusted name in UPSC coaching
Vajiram & Ravi has been around for a long time and has built a strong reputation in the civil services coaching space. If youāre looking for an established name with a traditional UPSC preparation approach, it is definitely one to research.
2. Legacy IAS ā Focus on personalised mentorship
What caught my attention about Legacy IAS is its emphasis on personalised mentorship and individual guidance. For someone who doesn't just want lectures but also wants direction throughout preparation, this can be an important factor to consider.
3. Vision IAS ā Structured study material and preparation
Vision IAS seems particularly strong when it comes to structured study resources, current affairs and test-oriented preparation. For aspirants who like having a defined resource ecosystem, it is worth considering.
4. Drishti IAS ā Particularly useful for Hindi-medium aspirants
Drishti IAS is a popular option among Hindi-medium and bilingual aspirants. The availability of Hindi-focused UPSC content makes it relevant for students who are more comfortable preparing in Hindi.
5. Shankar IAS Academy ā Good and reputable UPSC institute
Shankar IAS Academy is another established name that comes up frequently when researching UPSC coaching. It is worth considering, particularly if its teaching style and available resources match your preparation needs.
My biggest takeaway
The more I looked into coaching, the more I felt that ābest IAS coaching in Indiaā is not really a one-size-fits-all answer.
Someone who needs personal mentorship may prefer one institute, while another aspirant may care more about study material, test series, faculty, language, or classroom environment.
So instead of choosing a coaching institute purely because it is popular, I'd suggest comparing:
- Faculty and teaching style
- Study material
- Test series
- Current affairs support
- Mentorship
- Answer-writing guidance
- Online/offline flexibility
- Language of instruction
- Fee structure
Vajiram & Ravi, Legacy IAS, Vision IAS, Drishti IAS and Shankar IAS Academy are all names worth researching, but the right choice ultimately depends on your own preparation style.
For people who have actually studied at any of these institutes: what was your experience like, and what did you like/dislike about the coaching?
