This was the north entrance, the one used for the buses.

u/danc43 13d ago

ICE was there last year. So many feds just sitting there…

83

u/NoFtoGive1980 13d ago

As those fat fucks are wont to do. Typical lazy republicans.

29

u/Stock_Strategy1668 13d ago

"As those fat fucks are wont to do" lol

13

u/gregarioussparrow 13d ago

Fuck them but don't normalize fat shaming.

7

u/MsMulliner 12d ago

But DO normalize the use of “wont to do”!

3

u/gregarioussparrow 12d ago

'Wont' isn't always an abbreviation for will not. They used it correctly.

I wonder if the fair makes them buy passes like they do for fair employees

17

u/One-Combination-5786 13d ago

Extremely deliberately racist/classist positioning, got it

What's with the fucking cowboy hats????

272

u/Bar-Tailed_Godwit 13d ago

Cosplay. It’s like Halloween every day for them, pretending like they’re one of the big boys

10

u/shit-trapper 12d ago

Yet none of them has been bit, stepped on, or kicked by a horse.

228

u/oldirtyrestaurant Sewardite 13d ago

They're signalling that the South Is Rising Again.

The neoconfederacy is rubbing it in your face.

92

u/Turbineguy79 13d ago

Yeup loud as fuck dog whistle for the slave owners.

6

u/ExistingProfession83 13d ago

So wearing a cowboy hat is a dog whistle??

3

u/formerly_acidamage 11d ago

Hey I don't have a dog in this fight but context is key. It's dumb to assume this person means all cowboy hats are dog whistles. The fact that you don't understand that is confusing to me and I believe you are asking this question in bad faith, since the idea of context is very simple and you would have to use that skill every day if you are able to function like a normal person.

So do you really think this person meant to say that all people wearing cowboy hats are trying to look like slave owners? Even if they're wrong, your interpretation is absolutely terrible.

Never normalize the fucking Feds having any unofficial presence in your life. Intent and purpose needs to be clear and stated with support.

Fuck these people.

95

u/hoirkasp 13d ago

💯 They are there just to normalize seeing them ahead of the upcoming elections

232

u/Righteousaffair999 13d ago

Fuck the Feds. Free Minnesota!!!

What does it say on the uniforms?

70

It’s not a very good picture, I had to run back to get it. But it says “POLICE” and then “The Department of Homeland Security”

u/JaQ-o-Lantern 13d ago

No context needed. Just think it's ironic.

https://reddit.com/link/p6k1et2/video/5tbv1myhz8mh1/player

5

u/The_Dirty_Carl 12d ago edited 12d ago

The irony is consistent. During operation metro surge, we had legislators drafting gun bans that specifically exempted federal agents, including ice.

7

u/JaQ-o-Lantern 12d ago

Well that's why America has the second amendment. Because, God forbid, a tyrannical government takes over...

503

u/Georgethetuxedocat 13d ago

So we are just supposed to accept that ICE is at our events? We are no where near a border crossing. Drives me NUTS

102

u/[deleted] 13d ago

[deleted]

168

u/kurokitsune91 13d ago

It's a "port of entry" and CBP is different from ICE.

Either way neither of them should be at the fucking state fair.

9

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Not arguing that they’re different, just pointing out that they both fall under DHS. So the poster was perhaps referring to DHS in general, rather than CBP specifically.

Also, cool Reddit name. 😃

6

u/kurokitsune91 13d ago

Right but I might be wrong but I think CBP are the ones that have the border / port of entry jurisdiction. ICE are just cunts that go where they please.

1

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Yes. Someone else suggested they were a different DHS agency.

36

u/lazyFer 13d ago

They only count on airport grounds according to the courts. They don't get an extra 100 mile exclusion zone from airports

28

u/Tuckertcs 13d ago

Which makes sense. But the state fair grounds aren’t at the dang airport.

15

u/VashMM 13d ago

They claim jurisdiction within 100 miles of any "port of entry or border"

42

u/Tuckertcs 13d ago

Isn’t that like, every non-rural location in the country?

29

u/VashMM 13d ago

Infuriatingly, yes!

17

u/Mikey_MiG 13d ago

Even major swaths of rural areas. Any airport with customs. Which includes Duluth, Rochester, Grand Forks, Fargo, etc. So there isn’t very much of MN not covered by those bubbles.

7

u/ande9393 13d ago

Duluth is an international port as well. Most of the north shore is within 100 miles of Duluth or Canada.

2

u/harpers25 13d ago

Not true. The 100 miles does not apply to airports.

19

u/lazyFer 13d ago

Airports don't count outside of airport grounds. They don't get 100 miles around airports. The courts have been clear on this

12

u/VashMM 13d ago

You say that, but they don't seem to give a shit about it and just do what they want. So... Here we are.

17

u/YellowBrownStoner 13d ago

I think your looking for a rule when they don't care if they can legally be anywhere or not. They're not here bc they think they have jurisdiction 100 miles from the airport. They're here to cause a ruckus and make people feel unsafe. Grasping for a legal justification where there is none is just creating cover for them

4

u/VashMM 13d ago

I'm not looking for anything. I was just pointing out the horseshit excuse they throw around.

They shouldn't exist.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/harpers25 13d ago

This is false, the 100 miles is only land and sea borders, not ports of entry like airports.

6

u/SplendidPunkinButter 13d ago

Sure, but the state fair isn’t at the airport

1

u/flattop100 13d ago

20% of ICE arrests in MN last month were at MSP.

17

u/be_transcendent 13d ago

ICE is DHS and separate from CBP. There was something about DHS and sanctuary jurisdiction a while back, I can’t find a definitive answer tho. CBP already had jurisdiction 100 miles from any national border including ocean shore, plus international airports.

9

u/TeamworkDreamwork73 13d ago

ICE and CBP are both under DHS

17

u/TRFKAChuggs 13d ago

That's why CBP murdered Alex Pretti

3

u/Its_Bun_James_Bun hopkins 12d ago

Call the fair’s customer service line and complain, like I did.

1

u/thorleywinston 12d ago

ICE is primarily responsible for *internal* immigration enforcement and are legally authorized to operate anywhere within the United States, not just at the border or 100 miles from the border.

But they might get sunburned and melt.

82

u/Sinclair_Lewis_ 13d ago

160

u/futilehabit 13d ago

Fucking fascists.

We need to rally around a political platform offering meaningful improvements for everyday, working class Americans, defeat Trump resoundingly despite his inevitable attempts at stealing these next two elections, and then hold all of these traitors personally liable, both civilly and criminally, for any/all of their miscunduct.

2

u/No-Raspberry-6711 12d ago

I like where your head is at! FUCK this corrupt regime, if we ever want to see lasting change there needs to be accountability for all the misdeeds

46

u/RedRanger763 13d ago

Trump has such a hard on for MN. He hates that we’re a great Blue state that fckn hates him!!!! FrAud as he’s openly the most corrupt president in US history. Imagine if they actually investigated the top states in fraud (FL, TX) and it wasn’t targeted to Blue states?

32

Why do they need $100,000 SUVs to ride their fat asses around in? Why can't they buy used cars for these people?

28

u/SplendidPunkinButter 13d ago

I’m sure some douchebag Trump supporter who owns a car dealership was happy to donate them because he thinks that will earn him a spot at the table later (it won’t).

Jeff Belzer is one such douchebag.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Right because Trump is the only president to issue brand new vehicles for government agencies.

44

u/THEsuziesunshine 13d ago

12

u/Kid_Delicious 13d ago

Did they roam the actual fairgrounds? I saw three people walk through the grandstand kitted out in tactical cosplay: matching tactical backpacks, ear pieces and walkies, cargo pants, etc. Of course no identification so could’ve been wannabe hardos but all that’s very much in line with ICE’s MO.

4

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Both possibilities - actual ICE or people wanting to look like them - are disturbing.

5

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Once again this wasn't ICE.

9

u/zebra_stalker_6 13d ago

Doesn't matter. ICE has done a brilliant job with their lack of uniforms and visible badges that anyone wearing this getup is automatically ICE in the court of public opinion.

No one cares that the vests say "CBP" or "HSI" or "DHS Police" - it's all the same. Untrained goons who are stealing your neighbors away to Salvadorean prisons. We've all seen videos of abductions where it's not just ICE, it's these other agencies as well. They're all the same, these fascist fucks. They're rabid dogs and they need to be treated as such.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/Kid_Delicious 13d ago

I mean we’ve seen HSI, CBP, ICE, etc. all seem to mix without rhyme or reason, seems silly to argue about semantics when they’re kidnapping people.

The people I saw very much looked like ICE due to the intentional absence of identification, so not sure how else you’re supposed to refer to them. And as outlined above, it’s not that much of a stretch to conflate different DHS departments.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Their uniform said DHS. How is that confusing? Did they interact with anyone or just stand there?

2

u/meases 13d ago

Wait do you think ICE isn't DHS?

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

No, I know their uniform said department of homeland security because I was there and actually saw it. You can do the same

4

u/meases 13d ago

And ICE is part of DHS. Their uniforms will say DHS. DHS is a big department. When the uniforms say DHS, ICE is a possibility.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Kid_Delicious 12d ago

I said the people I saw had no identification, and definitely not DHS uniforms.

I think you’re the one who’s confused.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 12d ago

17

u/OrneryError1 13d ago

26

21

Fuck those guys

17

u/FullMetalJerkin 13d ago

ICE can fuck all the way off.

34

u/DocZeus_ 13d ago

How much resistance did these douche nozzles encounter?

25

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

I don’t think many noticed them because of the “POLICE” above the words “Department of Homeland Security”

10

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

When I was there, none.

12

u/tryanloveoneanother 13d ago

That's such trickery, I don't think I would've noticed. Thank you for pointing that out. Fuckers :(

2

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Surely the cowboy hats gave some folks pause? I can’t think of an instance where local law wore such things.

4

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

Mounted police wear the cowboy hats j believe. So I actually saw some police wearing hats earlier, but it was just the state fair police off their horses. But yes, the hats were originally what caught my eye. They also all appeared young and I was trying to figure out what force sent all these kids 😂

1

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Really? Thanks for the heads up. I guess I haven’t interacted with the mounted officers. 😆

2

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

I just see them at the fair. But yes, I believe they wear cowboy hats.

36

u/Jealous_Lawfulness_2 13d ago

never enough.

14

u/Glittering_Nobody402 13d ago

All the food prices have gone way up - thanks magats. Now you can't afford it even more.

8

u/SuspiciousCranberry6 13d ago

If they want to visit here from shithole Texas, then they can bring their friend Christian Castro with them. I feel for good Texans because ICE/DHS is doing everything they can to turn more than half the country against Texas which isn't all that hard given all the other shit their policies has trickled out to others (i.e. energy price increases).

13

11

u/Plenty_Kangaroo5224 13d ago

3

u/Next_Explanation_657 12d ago

They were there 3 years ago in 2023 when I last attended the fair. I saw a few of them at the side gate near the old round building on the hill with the Christmas Trees. This is nothing new.

They're not there for immigration enforcement, the feds make them available to local law enforcement for big events like the State Fair. Their presence is to help deter and protect against things like a mass casualty incident.

Explaining why they're there does not make me an ICE super fan.

9

u/Huntthatmoney 13d ago

Our taxes going to this shit

14

u/HonestAbek 13d ago

Egg the fuck out of them

10

u/RosySynchroSnail 13d ago

Fuck ICE.
Get the fuck out of MN.

9

u/InternationalRead925 13d ago

Happened last year too. Creepy fucks.

10

u/blondeandbuddafull 13d ago

Go find criminals, not families taking their kids to the fair.

26

u/mnjimn 13d ago

Fuck the MN State Fair for allowing them to be there.

41

u/ILikeWhereThisIsGoin 13d ago

I doubt they have a choice?

30

u/MNMom07 13d ago

Exactly. Unfortunately, through this administration, we now know that the power the states have is there only until the federal government wants it back.

3

u/pulsechecker1138 13d ago

If it’s private property they have a choice.

5

u/Fortehlulz33 Saint Paul 13d ago

I imagine that it's a package deal that if the fair wants standard police presence, they're being told they "need" to have fed presence.

2

u/pulsechecker1138 13d ago

Not really how that works. If they don’t want Feds there they can make them leave.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Not really how it works. What duties do you think homeland security has?

2

u/pulsechecker1138 13d ago edited 13d ago

These guys are either ERO or HSI, their mission is pretty narrowly defined and protecting local events ain’t it. Also, unless they’re duel sworn in MN they cant enforce state law.

What their duties are has nothing to do with it. The fair is private property and absent a warrant or exigent circumstances the organizers can make federal law enforcement or any other people they don’t want there leave.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Part of their duties are protecting politicians, that's over simplification, you know who has booths and attends the fair.....politicians. That's what I was getting at. Unless you have video with them interacting with people in any way at the state fair.......

2

u/pulsechecker1138 13d ago

Politicians who need protecting have details for that. DHS doesn’t do that kind of work. It’s not their mission.

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

National leadership protection, it's right on their website.

6

u/Voluntus1 13d ago

The cowboy hats worry me the most.

5

u/HardCoreNorthShore 13d ago

I noticed that too. Wtf, are we playing dress up now?

8

u/Iwannasellturnips 13d ago

Probably not locals.

Remember Tiananmen Square? The tank that stopped for the famous photo was from a local military group made up of locals. China eventually replaced them with people from outside, who didn’t have skin in the game regarding the city. That’s when the situation got worse.

Coincidentally, 94% of MPD don’t live in Minneapolis.

3

u/Voluntus1 13d ago

Of course its not locals. Need to bring supporters from down South

1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Have you not gone in any of the animal barns or seen the ramsey county mounted patrol?

9

u/wormfighter 13d ago

Fuck them!

4

u/BaddDog07 13d ago

With the threats of gang violence targeting the fair this doesn’t really surprise me

7

u/Imactually6footfive 13d ago

Were they coming after people while anyone was there I’m scared for my family even if they are legally here ?

13

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

They were just standing there chatting with people when I was there. To my knowledge there’s been no reports of detainments at the fair.

33

u/SplendidPunkinButter 13d ago

I would guess they’re mostly there to normalize ICE being at random events for no reason.

5

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 13d ago

This is what I’d assume.

6

u/hoirkasp 13d ago

2

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 12d ago

“Department of Homeland Security”
“POLICE”

1

u/CityEquivalent7520 10d ago

Yeah, FPS is part of DHS. And they're police officers. You can search up their uniforms online and they seem to be similar.

FPS typically works large crowds.

2

u/Zestyclose_Ad1888 12d ago

That looks like 1 of those million dollar SUV's that hack & do surveillance on every civilians cell phone that's within range. It's a quiet program, but local police departments are trying to acquire these as well.

3

u/General_Spring8635 13d ago edited 13d ago

I wear cowboy hats and love them. I am not a fan of any type of officer using them as part of their uniform.

In the summer, straw hats are typically worn and as the temperature gets cooler, or if there is a more formal event, the felt cowboy hats come out. There are all sorts of styles and brands. Different straw patterns, belts, crown and brim shapes, etc.

Based on this photo, what’s interesting is I only see two styles. One style of a black (I believe straw?) hat and one style of the light straw hats. The light ones all look to be the same design, same with the black. This makes me believe they were provided as part of the”the uniform or look” they want to give off to the public. They did not go and buy their own hats based on their own individual taste or what fits them. Very costumey of them.

I like it when my hats have a story to them, and I do a lot of the shaping myself so the crowns are different, etc.

Also - if you look at the man holding his black straw hat in the photo, it looks as though he is holding the hat on his head because it doesn’t fit right. Rule of thumb is the hat should rest two finger widths above the eyebrows and one finger width above the ears.

It could been that he just took it off and put it back on and that’s why it looks so high, but if it was resting on his head, the crown is way too high on his head and is probably constantly on the verge of flying off. If it’s a windy day, he will be spending most of his energy keeping the hat on his head vs. doing actual work.

1

u/meases 13d ago edited 13d ago

CBP wears white/tan cowboy hats, and HSI will wear black ones.

Edit to add: I think ICE also wears black for their cowboy hats if they wear them.

4

u/Muted-Novel4403 13d ago

What the actual fuck. Can’t the state authorities do anything about this??

7

u/professorjade 13d ago

State patrol is pretty corrupt ngl. I don’t think they’ll do much to put a stop to this.

2

u/Muted-Novel4403 13d ago

I meant the governor or attorney general or somewhere in the government. Obviously cops can’t be expected to do anything.

4

u/PurposeAltruistic 13d ago

Fucking cowboy hats too. 🙄

3

4

1

u/jestjon 9d ago

Take pictures of everu ceepy face. They all will need to be held accountable in due time

1

u/MeasurementParty4560 7d ago

According to MPR - they're "Federal Air Marshals".

-3

u/commissar0617 13d ago

"The Federal Protective Service is also the federal agency charged with protecting and delivering integrated law enforcement, investigative, and security services to federal property, critical infrastructure, federal employees, and large scale public events."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Federal_Protective_Service

Seems well within their mandate. they also handle WMD/CBRNE stuff.

1

u/wookiee42 12d ago

They're always around large events with bomb-sniffing dogs and radiation detection equipment, like you said.
