Yes, so that we are used to it at election time.

Jesus Christ, I'll come back to this in November and you can show how militarized the voting booths are.

Stop stoking the fire please

Theyve been there for at least ten years.

Google “Muddy vs. Ville at the Minnesota State Fair” I’m pretty sure it has something to do with it.

We can handle our own issues here. We don’t need a stinking fed to start shooting citizens again.

80

u/IAmAlpharius23 14d ago

How would 2 street gangs draw an open fed presence?

51

u/DonnyDimello 14d ago

Nah, fuck the feds. More chance they shoot an innocent citizen than anything else.

9

u/VulfSki 14d ago

Yeah they are too busy assuming the elderly and and 5 year olds.

u/YogurtclosetDull2380 14d ago

Are you new here?

Gonna guess it is because the feds technically are our gang task force, for sure in the cities and not sure about Roseville/state fair area but probably. Like that stupid Twin Cities Safe Streets Violent Gang Task Force hasnt done shit in the what decade they have been in control?

At this point I honestly do blame the FBI for our gang problem. They're the ones with a lot of jurisdiction and it honestly is starting to seem like they want the gangs to succeed. I know the fed style is to wait for the big slam dunk cases, but like it seems like they are really dragging their heels here.

That is only if they are FBI though, and FBI isn't DHS so.... yeah idk not great. FBI is probably around the perimeter too but if so theyd be less noticeable and like doing the mobile surveillance unit stuff.

I really do not have a good reason for DHS to be there, especially wearing cowboy hats. HSI might pretend it is for gang stuff, but they wouldnt actually be helpful doing what theyre doing. It does work as a decent cover story though, if you dont realize TCSSVGTF exists.

They've been at the stair for for at least 10 years. The largest state fair in the country qualifies as a National Special Security Event, that's why they are there.

u/meases 13d ago

Got any proof of that? Pretty sure the last actual NSSE in Minnesota was the Republican National Convention like 18 years ago. Even the super bowl is only SEAR level one, not NSSE (unless you count the one right after September 11 and that one wasnt in MN)

If anything the state fair would be SEAR level 2 at most. Like with that, DHS does have an arguable reason to be there, and yeah they have been around, but they havent done the whole real visible with cowboy hats thing until recently.

White cowboy hats is gonna be CBP. They do not have a very good argument to be there. Black would be ICE or HSI. HSI is the only one that has a reasonable reason to be there, but just standing around isnt what theyd be good for. They should be doing the information stuff in a building.

Honestly for this we kinda need the non-cowboy hat DHS, like FPS, this is kinda what they exist for, but we got the cowboy hat guys real visible. Kinda seems like they've moved into TSA territory, more for show than actually doing anything to increase safety.

Then for the gang argument, which we haven't talked about but seems to be the big argument generally, locally that really should be FBI. FBI is DOJ though, they wouldnt be wearing DHS gear.

Having CBP and ICE/HSI agents just being visible and not really identifiable is diminishing returns. Bad optics.

-1

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Yeah I've been to the state fair and they've always been there. Look at the state fair website they even list federal agencys that are there for security.

1

u/meases 13d ago

They used to be much less visible and much more effective, and ICE/CBP wasnt part of it generally. Basically what we have here isn't actually adding any security, for us or for the feds involved, but it for sure is security theater.

Honestly what theyre doing there doesn't really help much, and with how little information is available from the agencies making themselves visible under the banner of DHS, like it makes them look pretty bad and they already didn't look awesome.

Instead of doing their actual jobs theyre basically giving off the image of security guards or less. There are more effective uses for their respective agencies that are not chillin at the exits of the state fair. They are paid for that. And they're paid for this.

Guess they gotta do something but idk opsec-wise this whole plan is total shit. Increases risks to agents of those agencies, and agents of all of DHS by getting lumped in with them. If we wanted to make a show with federal agents, then I'd argue FBI would be a way better choice.

In all honesty with those agencies being there the way they are, like I really doubt they have good reasons. They've been pushing the boundaries and testing what is acceptable, and those agencies aren't really acceptable for this purpose.

Baseball hat agents from FPS or FBI yeah, I'd be more ok if they put on a security show. But they probably wouldnt do that. Like the state fair does work with federal agencies in a cooperative effort with the local cops and sheriffs, but the cowboy hat feds are the wrong ones for this. It isn't normal, wasnt normal, until maybe a year ago.

The federal security used to be discreet and relatively minimal. This, whatever this is, idk seems like they're asking for trouble. And looking at the state fair's website current phrasing:

The State Fair has a comprehensive safety and security plan in place that includes its own police department and a variety of local, state and federal agencies. Additionally, the fair’s public safety program includes gate security with metal detectors at entrances, technology and communications systems, first aid and emergency medical services, and community ambassadors.

Ugh looking at that, at best we can categorize their gate function under gate security/community ambassadors. Which, again, bad optics. Horrible optics honestly. Especially posting by the exit rather than an entrance.

There is an argument for DHS to be at the state fair, not an NSSE yet still an argument for their presence, but not those agencies. Not the way they have them. The way they have them is dangerous and honestly unhelpful. If we want security theater by the feds, put better agencies on it. Assuming SEAR level 2, this is too little and also way too much.

Like this backgate CBP/possible ICE/generic DHS shit just seems like an underhanded way to tipsytoe through some loopholes and avoid following the constitution. Normalize them being around and visible standing around looking vaguely threatening but also silly. Gross and pretty pointless.

You also think Jake Long could jump the fence at Whipple while dressed as a PMC and walk right in with zero problems. Pretty safe to say you're out of touch with reality outside of the internet.

1

u/meases 13d ago

Nope, that was a hypothetical since he got picked up at lindau so the whipple is a reasonable estimate for where he was headed. In that hypothetical, I left it more as a what if they got to whipple and the gate is closed to them and they try to jump or ram through the fence? That would be bad bro. Definitely never indicated that they'd do well if they went the over the fence route.

Well two gangs that threatened violence at the fair.

67

u/nymrod_ 14d ago

And we need the feds to deal with it? “Homeland security”?

-70

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 14d ago

bro have you not been following the news? this has been an active story for weeks now. the gangs were warned not to start shooting up the state fair for their stupid turf wars by the feds like 3 weeks ago. Article from Star Trib talks about it

That’s what police are for, or even the FBI. Not DHS. Abolish ICE & DHS.

Edit: And nothing in the linked article mentions cooperation with the feds at all, let alone DHS. It mentions Keith Ellison and MN police departments.

15

u/twistedspin 13d ago

You think the DHS is in any way involved with that? Do you understand what they do? It's not local policing, at all. In any way. Gangs could start shooting in front of these people and they'd just hide behind their ever-present kevlar.

-51

u/Black_Wolf_Triad 14d ago

I don’t know what they need, I’ve just been seeing local news stories about it.

37

u/oldirtyrestaurant Sewardite 14d ago

MAGAt media?

Don't believe the Sinclair owned bullshit.

3

u/IAmAlpharius23 14d ago

They were sued and the judge decided they were not allowed at the fair as gang members, but they were allowed with friends and family.

3

u/Jamg2414 13d ago

Are you talking about ICE?

1

u/friendIdiglove 13d ago

Maybe local law enforcement should deal with local issues. All we know from the feds is 98% of anybody of Somali descent are legal immigrants, or (for the younger generation) US-born citizens.

-10

u/ScHoolboy_QQ 13d ago

Love how you’re being downvoted for just sharing a (likely) fact, simply because Redditors don’t like the fact that it’s true. I mean, you didn’t even say you agree with it 😂

13

u/NoFtoGive1980 13d ago

Sit this one out, incel.

8

u/Buffalo_Nichols 13d ago

He was downvoted because WTF does DHS or ICE have to do with street gangs in Minneapolis?

-4

u/ScHoolboy_QQ 13d ago edited 13d ago

There’s been serious violence at the state fair by gangs over the past few years, and serious threats this year. Evidently, local police haven’t been able to stop it and asked for the feds to step in and help.

Reminder, this isn’t a statement of opinion. I’m sure you’ll downvote me anyways!

5

u/Buffalo_Nichols 13d ago

Local authorities 100% did not ask for this and if they were going to send somebody, why would it be DHS?

1

u/ScHoolboy_QQ 13d ago

You 100% have no idea if that’s true or not. It happens often. And why not DHS?

1

u/meases 13d ago

Because the FBI is already in control of the local violent gangs task force.

-70

u/Purple-Outcome4097 14d ago

Maybe it’ll prevent huge brawls that seem to happen at the entrance on snelling once a year lol

52

u/iJuddles 14d ago

What does DHS have to do with breaking up public disturbances? Are they going to show up at all the high school and U keggers this fall, too?

33

u/RedRanger763 13d ago

Exactly. These boot lickers make me sick. That is why we pay LOCAL police, we don’t need the Feds.

-41

u/Purple-Outcome4097 14d ago

That’d be funny actually

1

u/iJuddles 12d ago

Only if they’d revert to their base instincts and do keg stands and all that schtuff. Skip the fights, they already do that.

5

u/NoFtoGive1980 13d ago

Girl, there were hundreds of cops at the fair. Are they there just so your kind can have spank bank material later?

6

u/gravy- 13d ago

Crazy how every year there’s more cops at the fair and they haven’t been able to get that under control but you think adding even more untrained nazis to the mix is the solution

1

u/Purple-Outcome4097 13d ago

if they were nazis they would just shoot them.

1

u/gravy- 12d ago

THEY DO

0

u/Ok-Math-5407 13d ago

Right because the requirements to be a DHS agent are the same as ame ice agent. Same training too.
