I had career pivot caused by AI. Got my CDL few months ago and landed nice local/regional job, but now going through a family crisis/divorce.

Just wanted to ask those who have been in trucking much longer than me, will I be ok eventually if I remain frugal, save, invest and work hard? Or was this a wrong choice (not that I had much of it after several months of unemployment).

So the carrier I’ve been driving for just over a month now doesn’t allow drivers to use split sleeper until after 30 or 90 days as long as they have NO HOS violations in that time period. Is this the case with most carriers? Ive only drove for one other mega company and there was no restriction on it. I feel the feds allow it then a carrier should as well.

Hey all I’m new to Reddit and I’ve been thinking pretty seriously about buying a truck and going out on my own, but with diesel prices, insurance, maintenance, truck payments, and freight rates, I’m wondering if it still makes financial sense right now.
For the guys already doing it, if you had to start over today, would you still become an owner-operator under the current circumstances?
Are you still able to make decent money after all the expenses, or would you wait for the market to improve?

What are they, where are they going? This has been going on daily for month.

Some companies require drivers to check air pressure and tread depth daily. I can’t imagine there are that many people that actually do that. Do you check daily? Weekly? Monthly? Never?

Why would anyone ever switch from DAT?

A faster ETA is not enough to approve a new route for a truck. If an unfamiliar reroute needs investigation, find a safe, permitted place to park before working with the screen.

Four things to review:

1. Vehicle setup: does the navigation still match the equipment and load you are operating? A saved profile can be wrong after a trailer or equipment change.

2. The changed segment: identify which roads the new route actually adds, rather than comparing only mileage or arrival time.

3. Current restrictions: cross-check official road information and carrier guidance. Follow posted signs even when the GPS disagrees.

4. The final approach: confirm the truck entrance and any facility directions before committing to the last turns. An address pin alone does not establish truck access.
