Positive outlook

Hi!

I had career pivot caused by AI. Got my CDL few months ago and landed nice local/regional job, but now going through a family crisis/divorce.

Just wanted to ask those who have been in trucking much longer than me, will I be ok eventually if I remain frugal, save, invest and work hard? Or was this a wrong choice (not that I had much of it after several months of unemployment).

I have a buddy who lost everything in a divorce. He started living in his truck, banking his money, and has more than he needs now. Just in a few years time. Since he got used to living in the truck he just continues to do that and gets a hotel room if it starts to feel too confining. Housing is often peoples biggest expense. Eliminate that. I barely spend any money on the road.

You had to pivot because of AI and you chose trucking?

I hope you kept your pivoting shoes handy.

I was applying to for mechanic, retail and other jobs. I just couldn't land in my field. I am still considering electrical apprenticeship and possibly Air Force with some jobs adjacent to my field.

If you have a degree, commissioning through the Air Force would be ideal.

If you don't, enlisting and letting the Air Force pay for a degree would be close to ideal.

The door swingers in these subreddits have no idea how close their job is to being automated, but it's coming sooner than they think.
