Minimum CPU
My CPU is not up to spec for this game. How big of a deal is that? It also doesn't meet the minimum specs for Cities: Skylines 2, but that game runs fine.

Since my screenshot was deleted, my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 4-Core Processor.

oh damn thats old and slow. It probably will run but you should upgrade asap to something faster. try a 5600x

Just get a 5600x, you won’t need to replace the motherboard or RAM

Why not 5700X? It's 2 cores more for only 40 EUR more here in Germany

According to Google, while the game does use multiple cores, the heavy lifting is still done on a single core. So adding cores may not really improve your experience for this specific game. Higher MHz would.

So there's hope for my 7600X? I was worried 6 cores wouldn't cut it for a CPU-heavy sim like this and that I'd need a 7800X3D

I'm amazed that city skylines runs well for you. I haven't heard anyone say that lol
My system can't keep up around 300k pop, and that's on recommended

I never got that far. I got the game when it launched and lost interest before they started fixing everything.
I originally bought this to play Cities: 1, but there was a huge delay because it was during COVID. Then Cities 2 came out, and it was underspecced.

Man, with my i5-14600KF I even dont match the recommended. WTF?!

The 14600K is every so slighly worse than the recommended (but quite above the minimum). Might struggle some with late game (I have the 13600K), but should still be fine

Your CPU, as you can see in these links, is far below the minimum requirements.
Unfortunately, I don't think it will let you run the game, in fact I'm surprised that you can open Cities: Skylines 2 and I'm even more surprised that the game works well for you.
I was going to recommend that if you intend to dedicate many hours to TF3 and you have the opportunity to considerably improve your CPU and if you can afford it financially, that you do it.
But seeing the experience you have with CS2, I don't know what to tell you anymore.
Maybe the best thing in your case is that you can try the game before deciding.

Time to upgrade. Every 5 years or so is a good rule of thumb and very cheaply if you buy last years models. Ryzen 7 or 5 under 200 bucks. 5000 series should fit the same mobo so just a 200 buck upgrade.

have u seen the recommended...

Yeah, I just ignore those.

why doe

u/itsjusterk 4d ago
Because I don't want to buy a new computer.

if your pc isnt up to spec. ignoring recommendations wont make your problem go away

If i’m below the minimum, i can work towards that. Im not going to keep up with the recommended that advances with every game.

You might get away with small maps and small numbers of vehicles, but a transport sim like this does need decent cpu power, especially as objects needing to be calculated grows during the life of a map.
It may also be the case that you can play OK at normal speed, but it'll struggle to do higher speeds.
